Lotions, savory salts, hand sanitizer, cologne, vinegar, room freshener, you name it! Everything is made by the owner himself (who is very well known in the herb community) using produce and herbs he grows onsite!!! 10/10 a must visit when in Fredericksburg.

My annual Girl's Weekend was spent in Fredericksburg this year. I was very excited about finally…read moregetting the chance to visit the famous herb farm that I had seen in numerous publications. So on Sunday we headed out and found that the place was turned into a bed & breakfast. We drove by and noticed Urban Herbal. What we didn't know was that the owner (William Varney) sold the herb farm back in 2007 but had some land adjacent to it and opened up Urban Herbal in 2010. I know that mid-February is not the time to visit if you want to see the garden in it's full glory, however the gift shop & labyrinth makes it worth the trip. We parked in the private lot and headed towards the garden where we were warmly greeted by William. He escorted us to his gift shop and I was so amazed at the variety of products he created to stock the shelves in this little store. From infused oils, herbal soaps, bath vinegars, bath salts/scrubs & lotions for the body, pet care to herbs for the grill, vinegars & seasonings for the palate, the offerings were mind boggling. William's knowledge was impressive to say the least and we were very happy that we got to spend some time talking with him personally, picking his brain. I ended up purchasing some incense, detoxifying body oil (juniper, geranium & grapefruit), lavendar/mint home fragrance, eucalyptus home fragrance, Herbs de Povence, lavendar/champagne vinegar & balsamic coffee/fig vinegar. After our purchases, William escorted us to the back garden. It was really wonderful to let my mind wander & meditate while I walked the labyrinth. William mentioned that he will begin workshops this spring. I am fuzzy on the details but he did mention that they will be posted on his website soon. I am truly happy that I was able to meet William. He is such a delight and has a wonderful, positive energy. I left Urban Herbal feeling refreshed & content. Definitely worth a return trip!

Many of the blends that they have are rather unique and I haven't been able to find a comparable product. I cook A LOT and go through a lot of seasonings on a regular basis. Prior to realizing that they had an online store, I was relegated to buying only what I coulld find of theirs on the local store shelf, the online buying has really opened things up for me. Speaking of the online store. The layout of the website makes it simple to navigate and purchase items, the shipping is fast, and out of my MANY orders, there hasn't been a mistake made. On the off chance that something is on backorder, they will let you know and it generally gets to you within the next few days. Finally, lets discuss what makes or breaks a company; customer service. As stated above, they really do a great job, but I made a mistake a few orders ago and needed to add something to my existing order, so I sent an email to them and asked if it was too late to add the extra 2 items. I had a reply within minutes and they were able to add them. So, if you haven't tried their stuff, I highly recommend that you do so, this Texas guy loves what they have!

Thanks to a Yelp event I was able to discover this hidden gem. I've been here TWICE since then to try a few different types and ALLLLLL of them have been BEYOND. We have tried the Beni, Jefa, traditional, hot Cheetos and my personal favorite the Ruffles. CREAMY, HOT CORN w/ savory ingredients. At this rate, you'd never get bored. They've been here 5 years and will definitely be on my weekly radar! Though a small cup could absolutely fill you up (priced around 5-5.50), I do recommend medium and large if 2+ are snacking. The cajeta's are pretty standard and so is the ice cream, but a good add on if you find the corn is too spicy. They do have certain cold treats that I'm hoping to try during my next few visits. The interior is CLEAN, pretty spacious for small parties and they have affordable catering options too! You can't go wrong having an elote party! (Just invite me too!) I've seen the owner in there every time I've been and he's SUPER kind and offers helpful recommendations based on what you want out of your treat. Don't sleep on this place, you are TRULY missing out.

They have a huge selection of American classics and imported Mexican favorites, but their homemade line is where they really shine. * The "Batman" Rule: You can't miss the life-sized Batman statue--just a heads-up that there's a "Do Not Touch" sign on him! * Organization: The shelves are packed with everything from bulk lollipops and "Glow Pops" to stacks of de la Rosa Mazapán. What to Grab * The Classics: You have to get the de la Rosa--it's a staple for a reason. * The "San Antonio" Specials: They are famous for their Chamoy pickles (look for the Big Tex Dill Pickle in Chamoy), Picositas belts, and those spicy tamarindo chili balls. * Party Needs: Beyond the candy, they have a ton of party supplies and authentic piñatas if you're prepping for an event. As far as the food, we had the fried mozzarella, which was essentially a log of cheese deep-fried and served over sauce. It was delicious, but the cheese-to-crust ratio was a bit heavy. The Caesar salad looked better than it tasted. It was very wet, if that makes sense, and the lettuce seemed soggy. Now for the Wagyu ragu. This almost made me have a seizure, and not in a good way. It was extremely salty and completely inedible, so we had to send it back. The waitstaff was very accommodating and agreed that the salt level was way off, so we replaced it with the carbonara. I'm not sure if that's what authentic carbonara is supposed to taste like, but I did not enjoy it. It tasted burnt to me and had too much pepper. I also didn't care for the shape of the noodles. Last, we had the Americano pizza. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. Not particularly friendly, but straightforward and efficient. The manager (or another server) was helpful when it came to replacing our dish. Overall, I would not go back. The location is great and the vibe is nice, but the food was a miss. Save your money and go somewhere else.
