My friends and I stopped in kinda early after a night of a few drinks. I'd say we were there around midnight-ish and the place was packed. Like out the door. It's a small, former store front establishment with limited interior and sidewalk seating. More of a grab and go. Hence, the cones. I have had these style fries in Belgium and Amsterdam from where the concept hails and I can tell you they have nailed it. Perfectly cooked fries with that "snap" crispness. Great flavor. Lots of dipping sauces to choose from as well. One of the better late-night, out for the night and I am hungry, kind of places.

Mr. Friez just opened on Butler Street in Lawrenceville, serving hot, fresh Belgian fries!! Other than the fries the menu has basket "& chips" meals: fish & chips, calamari & chips, shrimp & chips, and chicken fingers & chips. But whatever you do, do not skip the sauces. From truffle mayo to habanero mango, smoked eggplant, yellow curry, Andalouse, and their signature Mr. Friez sauce--there's a dip for every mood and craving. I am obsessed with the truffle mayo and the Andalouse!! These signature sauces truly make a meal! They're open daily and until 11 PM on weeknights and 3 AM on weekends!

Even though it's Monday, every day can be Fryday if you try hard enough. Mr. Friez in Lawrenceville does fries. It's right there in the name. But these aren't any fries, bub. They're Belgian fries, and you can tell the difference right away. They're crispy but not hard, fluffy but not limp. Honest to God these were some of the best damn fries that I have shoved down my throat. Plus the corner that they sit on is great for people watching (and by people I mean dogs). Absolutely coming back to Mr. Friez. And yes, I will again be getting the fries. I'm a creature of habit.

We have been wanting to try Mr Friez and decided to get some as a late night snack recently. The place is pretty small but a few tables are inside to eat. We had to wait a bit because everything was fresh made which is good for us! We ordered fries with a variety of sauces (do note you do get charged for each sauce!). The fries were delicious and crispy. I loved the texture. I wish they had a tad more salt. We didn't personally care for the ranch (it had an off flavor) but the truffle mayo, garlic aioli, and Mr friez sauces were very good!

Love that this place is open late so that if you go to a movie or a concert or to a bar in Lawrenceville at night, you can go and grab a quick bite. The fries here are good! Very crispy and feels double fried? There isn't a lot of seating inside but it's meant to be more of a grab and go place. They have a lot of different sauces but I wish they had some vegan sauces since I've had some really good Belgian frites with vegan mayo in other cities.

Absolutely delicious!! A tad pricey but I would say it's worth the cost. Out of the 5 sauces I have tried, I only disliked the eggplant. The Mr.Friez sauce and the truffle mayo are amazing

    Regular fries Wow!

The fries were good but the place needs a little sweep - the server was good. It's a while in the wall very, not for sitting

Located on the Border of Oakland and Shadyside. Multiple visits across the last few years. Bar on…read moreone side, dining room opposite. Gastropub feel with deeply solid kitchen. The pickled items are all done in house, and menu/kitchen are very thoughtful on how they execute. They do the pickling well, and they incorporate their ingredients into the dishes without making them feel unbalanced. Some specifics: Chicken fried pickles: Great ratio of batter to pickle. Generally, I think execution of pickled spears versus chips is fraught with peril. ButterJoint does these perfectly. These remain excellent and an unequivocal "get again" dish. Crispy chicken sandwich: chicken thighs done in one of the House brines, then battered and fried. This is a generous sandwich with two thighs. The batter is light and perfect and perfectly adherent. Kitchen cooked these pieces perfectly; no overdone portions. The tallow fries served as a side remain excellent, and the serving is very generous. "You can't eat just one." Pork belly sandwich: what a completely fun bite! Generous serving of pork belly, crispy on the outside and melting internally on a perfectly toasted roll. The condiments on this sandwich are perfect. The brunch burger is excellent. The egg is hard cooked so it doesn't come apart on the sandwich. M got the corned beef hash; the brisket on it is absolutely amazing, and there is a very nice grill on the potatoes. The poached egg on top is a complete delight. This is one of the better hashes that I have had. The falafel is fantastic. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked. The goat cheese crust with hot pepper jelly is an unexpected treat. Pickle shrimp are fun. The Mississippi comeback sauce is basically a remolade or maybe big Mac sauce. Would totally have again looking for a little cold shrimpy bite. We have never walked away disappointed by the menu or the kitchen. Good bar program, good draught list. Consistently gracious front of house team. Great for lunch or dinner, couples or families. Highly recommended.

Got to try their chicken sandwich and vinegar pie. The chicken sandwich came with a garlic sauce (toum) and fresh vegetables on their signature milk bread. Needless to say, the bun was amazing. The toum was great too, perfectly garlicky. And the chicken was delicious, with a solid portion. A bit on the expensive side though. The vinegar pie sounded super unique and intriguing so I gave that a shot. So glad I did! This is delicious. I can't even really describe it; there's a tiny note of acidity to it, but it's also super sweet. A nice little brown topping as well. It's just really good and you should try it. All in all, recommend this spot. The inside area we were sitting at was a little bleak but other than that, it is a nice place to be!

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
