We came here for the THHS Boys Volleyball fundraiser. What a great little place! Service was EXCELLENT! Food was good - we ended ordering more since the guys were still hungry. We started with a carne asada burrito, Adam's 50/50 burrito, chopped salad with carne asada, and Sonoran style hot dog but no bun and on a bed of lettuce. Food was great, along with the super spicy salsa and salsa verde. Second round for the guys included 3 tacos (carnitas, barbacoa, al pastor) and loaded fries with barbacoa. I would continue to support this great business. As we dined in, we observed their great customer service as well. They treat everyone cordially like family. They remember their regulars' names and orders. A couple kids came in to show their good report cards so they could get free treats (they were so polite and respectful kids - looked like they were in junior high). It's pretty hard for me to give 5 stars, but this place deserves it. I have to say this is probably the best taco place I have been. Not exaggerating. Each taco has a good portion of meat and they all taste freshly cooked. The meat is also very soft and tender. The quality is also very consistent. It's always the way I remember it when I go. My favorite ones are the shrimp tacos, Al pastor and the barbacoa. I also like that they only use one tortilla. Many places like to use two and I think it's too much. The service is fast and the people there are extraordinarily nice. Very sweet and polite people and smile at you. It's always a pleasant experience. The inside is modern and clean. There's a few tables to sit and eat. The parking is usually easy to find. The plaza is not super big, but there's also not too many stores there. We LOVE this place! Always incredible customer service which is hard to come by these days. I believe it's family owned and they all truly care about your experience and go out of their way to make sure you have all that you need. Food is absolutely delicious. We have all loved everything we have ordered. The fact that they have multiple vegetarian potato options is also a huge plus in my opinion. The restaurant is counter service and there's a few tables inside to eat your meal. Ordering with the customer service rep was super easy as she was patient and accommodating. If Mr. G's Tacos was closer to me, it would be one of my regular stops! I ordered their three tacos for $12.50 - chicken al pastor, barbacoa and potato. I have never seen a chicken al pasta and this was by far my favorite! Had I just stuck with the chicken al pastor, I would have given this place five stars. The barbacoa was decent and the potato taco was better than expected, thanks to the fried onions but definitely needed salsa. They do offer a variety of salsas (no salsa bar but already packed in containers). My husband got an al pastor burrito, which wasn't as big as the burritos he normally gets but was a lot cheaper ($11.50 vs $16). On Taco Tuesday, the three tacos are only $10.50. What a deal! This is probably one of the best rated Mexican places in Lake Forest, and for good reason. The food is delicious and authentic, and there's absolutely nothing to be disappointed on that front. It's definitely on the pricier side compared to similar offerings, but the quality and taste is there. Something I noticed was that they don't seem to offer pork, but the chicken al pastor was fantastic. Despite its name, I actually haven't had tacos here, which I probably should correct soon. I have had their regular burrito as well as the breakfast burrito, and the regular burrito was solid but I'm not sure if it was particularly standout from a price and value perspective. They do have a fantastic breakfast burrito that is absolutely comparable, and that alone is absolutely worth the price of admission. They offer all of their meat options, coupled with fluffy eggs, and while I wish the salsa was a bit more liquid-y, maybe I should try the mild or verde next time, it's serviceable to wash it all down. They are absolutely a new institution in the area for great Mexican food, and I'm glad it exists. TIP: Breakfast burritos are only available on Sundays, but they are well worth it. read more

Hands down one of the best places for tacos in the area. We came in on a Friday right at opening and there wasn't many people. To be fair, it was "raining", and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Super friendly service, and the woman at the front remembered my friend's name even after an hour, which we noticed. She was also super friendly and checked in on us periodically. I tried the three tacos: al pastor, barbacoa, and veggie. The sleeper hit was definitely the veggie taco. Actually, it was my favorite one of the three! I was delightfully surprised by the flavors, and the added crunch from the fried onions added a wonderful textural component to the taco. The al pastor and barbacoa were also pretty good. I like how the tortillas didn't fall apart, nor were the tacos dripping in sauce. Just the right amount. We ordered a side of chips and salsa and were intrigued when we were presented with a particularly spicy salsa option. Challenge accepted! It definitely had a kick and wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. Very tasty! We had 3 other salsas/dips that came with the chips - they were all pretty good. The restaurant itself is a decent size. This was my first visit, and unfortunately the food felt pretty lackluster. My Al Pastor burrito was about 40% rice - my first three or four bites had no meat. I ended up digging the al pastor out with a fork. I got a side of chips and salsa (both red and green). The chips are a pretty pale and thin, and both salsas are the type that are blended into a liquid consistency with no chunks. The flavor was okay - usually verde is my favorite but the red had slightly better flavor. I also ordered the side of corn, which was the tastiest part of my meal. Just a taaaad salty for my personal taste, but the other flavors balanced it out. This was the only thing I finished eating. The folks at the counter were super nice and my order was ready fairly quickly (about 6-8 minutes, but I was the only person ordering inside). I'm curious to come back and try some of the tacos, but not in a rush. read more

It was a Tuesday around noon and I was looking to try a new spot to try for Taco Tuesday. I came across Mr. G's Tacos in Lake Forest off El Toro Road which is just up the street from my office. I rolled in and was greeted by a pretty, super friendly gal with a good attitude. I ordered the TT Special, which consists of three tacos for $10.50. I ordered the Chicken Al Pastor, the Barbacoa and the Carnitas tacos. The tacos came out as pretty as a picture and included pickled red onion, pico de gallo and avocado crema. They also offered four different salsas on the side which is a good sign in my book. I had them all. The tacos were beautifully presented (you can tell they were made with care) and tasted super fresh and were very tasty. It is a nice clean restaurant with friendly people and serves quality food. Service is 5 Star and like others have said they are very nice which is great! Being new to this place we wanted to try a few different things just to get the lay of the land. The Agua Fresca was fantastic... we had the watermelon variety and would go back just for that. Tastes homemade! Best tacos and more in Lake Forest. Their food tastes like mom made it...because it's their mom's recipes. We came in to sample their menu & were wowed with the flavors. The meats were juicy. The salsas were tasty and the drinks refreshing. Mr G stopped by to say hello & because we made comments about the food tasting like "mom made it", Mr G brought out his mom from the kitchen. Serendipity! Mr. G's did the catering for my hubby's birthday party. Mrs. G made the catering process easy asking how many people, what types of meats, rice, beans, salsas, chips, beverages, etc. & she asked about allergies or lactose intolerant guests. This was terrific because she reminded me that we indeed had guests that were delighted with thoughtful custom options. The day before the event, Mr G's came to setup the tables, covers, chaffing dishes, servings plates, utensils & napkins and even descriptive signs. Everything was ready for the big day. Because this was a costume themed event, we encouraged that they dress in theme if possible. They arrived dressed in costumes with capes and served our guests who were thrilled and even more delighted by the amazing food. Comments were, "these tacos are fire", "delicioso", "bien rico", "muy sabrosa", "I need another stomach because I want more tacos" (after having 3 tacos), "love these potato tacos, are there anymore?" Mr G's was on time, excellent food and service. They are professional and the pricing was reasonable and definitely worth it. They care and they put their heart into making sure we were happy and satisfied with the food & service. We look forward to having them cater our next big event. Great quick taco spot. We tried one of each taco and all were great. I am pretty picky when it comes to meat and I didn't have one fatty bite which is pretty rare. They also have an excellent veggie tacos for vegans and vegetarians. You can tell each taco has thought behind it, each curated with different tasty salsas and garnishes. GET THE CRISPY SHELL TACOS!!! You won't regret it. Somehow most taco shops have really oily hard shell tacos, not this place. They're light and have just the right texture. We had the potato tacos (SO GOOOOD!!), carnitas. (Also bomb), barbacoa (eh, not my fave flavor, but good), and the chicken Al pastor. We have yet to try the carne asada. Or anything aside from the tacos, but what we had hit the spot! The location is within a mostly empty strip mall, and I'm glad they took up a storefront here. Parking is easy. Service is great. We finally tried Mr G's Tacos a while back after so many people recommend them. They're a new/newer business right off of El Toro. The dining space is not too big, not too small. It's an order at the counter and sit down kind of place. It's bright, and clean. Employees will greet and thank you for your patronage, and are polite. The owners will say hello and check on you as well. Customer service is great. Here is where I am unsure if I am thinking they're a 3 or a 4 for me. Maybe a 3.5 instead of 3. The food was decent but I wasn't blown away. I truly felt it lacked in flavor and I was confused if this was authentic or not. I would eat there again, however, I also wouldn't go out of my way to dine here anytime too soon. At least not for a while. Maybe I need to try the other food? There is no salsa bar. I think they have salsa if you ask for it. There was a water dispenser off to the side, it wasn't cold and there was no ice. You would have to go to the counter. It's a bit of an inconvenience for people who love to drink water or only drink water. I ordered a couple different proteins for my tacos, one being al pastor and the other a carnitas taco. Both were very juicy. Since my husband was the one ordering for me while I reserved the table, I wasn't aware that the al pastor was chicken, not pork. So the al pastor wasn't to my liking. I mean...the presentation was nice and it looked amazing. See for yourself in my photos. For me though, the taste didn't match how the food looked. I know they're working on their menu. I hope they add a soda fountain so we can grab ice and water or drinks, without having to approach the counter every time. After having said all that, I am wiling to give them another try. Mr. G's is finally open! We moved here about a year ago and saw the signs for TACOS coming soon... and the time is finally here! We live in the neighborhood and it was a nice walk over. The space is sort of small, but didn't feel small or crowded. We were warmly greeted and ordered our tacos. I got a 3 taco plate with rice and beans. We judge hard on the rice and bean, and these were LEGIT! My wife immediately said "this is GOOD rice and beans" when she had her first bite. The tacos -- I had chicken al pastor, carnitas and carne asada (upcharge). All were tasty! Carne asada came with a flour tortilla. All were pretty dang tasty! I wish there salsas were a bit spicier -- had both green and red. But they were still a good addition to the tacos. I am really happy that Mr Gs is finally open -- these are legit tacos in walking distance and these def hit the spot when we were craving tasty tacos. They had some nice options of food from burritos, tacos, bowls and more. I had to try the quesobirria there and make it a combo. The carne asada sounded great too so I added that on to my order. Now for something refreshing to drink they had some Aguas Fresca so I chose their watermelon lemonade which was absolutely delicious and my favorite part of everything. The tacos and all were good, but maybe needed salt or a little seasoning. But the quality of the food was undeniable. The carne asada would have been better as well if it was slightly seasoning before grilling and the quesabirria needed a nice fatty broth with some spice. The BEST carne asada + horchata I've ever had! Almost everything is made in-house! Amazing portions, incredible service, and the best homemade food, all made with love. If you haven't tried it, you're seriously missing out! Mr. G's blows these other "taco stands" out of the water.
