It's in an old Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. It always seems pretty clean to me. The man that is always at the counter isn't the most personable, but super sweet. The sandwiches are amazing. I always get the cheese delight, and whatever spices they put on it always have me craving another one. My husband loves the cheesesteaks. He had to stay at the hospital down the street a few nights, and he did not argue when I wanted to go back. They have French fries, but I didn't get them because I thought they would be cold by the time I got back to my husband's room. The kicker? There is an all the time deal that is buy two sandwiches, get the second half off, which brings the price of two sandwiches to only $9.67 before tip!!! Great little local spot that has some pretty good hoagies. When we came in this day, one of the cooks hadn't come in, and the owner told us the wait would be about 40 minutes before we could get our sandwich, we said we were ok with, since we had driven a bit of a distance to get to him. I appreciated that he told us up front before we placed and paid for our order. You can tell this is a good local spot to go to, because they weren't slammed, but they had a consistent flow of people coming in, and everyone was super patient waiting for their food, which, in today's time, people are super impatient. The customer service was really great. When our orders came up, it was before the time he gave us, so that was great also! The hoagies came out hot and fresh! The bread really does a number on this sandwich, because it is light, airy, has a good chew to it, AND, holds together as you make your way through the sandwich. The meat was seasoned nicely and was tender. I had onions, bell peppers, lettuce and mayo on mine. I think next time I'll add some jalapenos too for a little bit of kick. 4 Stars for the value! The subs are 5.99-6.99! That is insane now a days with inflation. You can get a meal with chips and a canned drink for $6.99! We only tried the hoagies, chips, and fries, but everything was good. The hoagies came out in a crunchy baguette. I'm guessing the bread is Vietnamese banh mi bread rolls. They were crunchy and very light. I liked the Italian better than the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak is a little salty for my taste, but it is still decent. This is a small mom and pop, not a fancy or trendy place. I would compare it to a hole in the wall and many people take it to go. Lots of people were calling in for the pizza and take out. read more

If any of y'all have been around the Greenspoint area for decades like I have, then you will remember a sandwich shop named "Rockies Subs" which was situated next to what used to be at Kroger's and a Luby's on Greens Road. Unfortunately about a year ago from the date of this review, Peter, which was the Asian owner of Chinese decent, decided to retire and long be gone. I was saddened to hear they I cannot get my delicious cheese steak sandwiches that I have not been able to find anywhere else. I'm a little bit biased to this establishment because I used to work there in the late '80s for a few months helping to make the preps for the foods there. Forward to now, I found this place upon a recommendation from a friend and semince this is a block for my residence I decided to try it. BLAST!! This is a spitting image out what ROCKY'S tasted like when it existed. I was blown away also when I heard that owner of this establishment that's been here for decades, was high school friend with Peter. (of Rocky's Subs) so they decided to open a business amongst each other in different places hence the parallel recipes as well as the pizza. It is rough inside and it showing its age but there are such thing as hole in the walls and sometimes they are the best places to eat correct? Well here is one of them and the bonus benefit is the prices are early 1990s currency! Where else can you get a Cheesesteak Hoagie for the price of around $7 and some change plus half price on the next one? This place never seems busy you know I was wondering how it stays open but hurry and get your cheese steak fixed before this guy decides to follow suit. There are coupons for the pizza that you can pick up at the counter and already at a very purposely priced average layout of $12 ish you can even get a discount off of that which you can feed a small party. This is one of those places where I tried it three times in one week and those that know me no that I will legitimately return as a nuisance until I'm sick of an establishment... and here I am. That Ambience is Cafe style and you're not going to get any decorations or happy cashiers but you will get a glimpse of its past ghostly history which seem to have been a Mexican restaurant at one time....decades ago! Don't let the outside deter you because there's not much to see and if you're driving past here fast enough, you might not see it and then when you step inside, don't get a double whammy of being surprised but just try the product for pizza sake, you will love it. read more

This is a hidden gem of a hoagie shop and I'm surprised it's not busier. The food is very good and prices are super cheap for the portion sizes. The cheesesteaks are really good. I happened to be walking past the store window and took a chance. This place is the quintessential example of don't judge a book by it's covered. Sandwiched in a non descript strip mall along 1960, there are still remnants of the prior business on its facade. No money was lost on decor as basic would be generous. There's a lingering smell of tobacco in the dining area though smoking is not permitted. The food, however, is legit. My Philly was made to order and I had them leave off the lettuce, tomato and raw onion that no true Philly should wear. It was served on a soft bun with plenty perfectly seasoned meat and cheese. The Philly Cheesesteak is very good and very hot. When they served it, I burned the roof of my mouth. The taste is very good. They offer grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato on it as well. With chips and drink, it was about $6.50. They do deliver in the immediate area of you are serving several people. My one and only complaint is this...THEY CHARGE 25¢ FOR REFILLS. SERIOUSLY?!?!? I know it's only a quarter, but it's aggravating. However, I'll admit that I'll come back, I'll just drink really, really slowly. I think many locals may be missing out on a little hidden gem. Not sure why this place has received high scores? The place is filthy. The Owner waits on customers with bare hands, takes their cash and then goes back to making hoagies. There is no washing of hands here. Money is the filthiest germ laden item on the planet and this guy doesn't care. It's a germ cess pool of bad bacteria here. I do want unclean hands making my sandwiches. Looking at the ceiling fan blades, you can see that nobody has cleaned them for years. The Department of Health needs to shut them down.
