This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Whether ordering for the office or picking up my own, I really enjoy their food. It's an assembly line-style ordering process, allowing you to pick your favorites. I have noticed in the last few months it's gotten VERY expensive. I came in for a single bowl, and it was $20. Apparently, some of my selections, like feta, were extra. I think restaurants really miss the mark when they start nickel-diming toppings. Pitaway is the same way, despite the name of their establishment. Aside of that, the chicken was good as well as the rice, grilled veggies, hummus, and pickles. We stopped by for a local school fundraiser with the kids. We got the family feast meal which was more than enough food for two adults and two kids. You can change up the meats to what you like. We had leftovers for a couple days, which is what we intended because we love middle eastern food. This location is different than the original in Berkley. Here you can order it like chipotle where you can make a wrap, bowl, or salad and go down the line picking what you want to have on your plate. Therefore it's totally customizable to your taste. We are big fans of the hummus trio: regular, jalapeño, and red pepper. The only one with a little spice is the jalapeño, which really isn't that spicy. They also pack crispy pita chips so we used those as dippers for the hummus or on the salad to make a fattoush salad. Everything in the meal was good and provided variety for the kids because you never know what they will like that day. The only negative was the rice was a little off that day and had a funky taste to it. Maybe someone didn't rinse the soap off the pan very well. I really, really enjoy Mr Kabob. Middle Eastern food is some of my favorite and here, I absolutely love the build your own bowl option. You start with one (or all) of their three hummus choices. Then a base (couscous, brown rice or traditional rice), a variety of veggie options, your choice of protein and a finishing drizzle of your favorite sauce. For my protein, my go to is falafel. It used to be the chicken, but sometimes it's a bit chewy or fatty. Not always, but enough times that it made me steer away. However, the falafel is AWESOME! I prefer the couscous over the rice. The rice that I had today tasted a bit off. Sometimes the chicken tastes off too. Sometimes it's cold. I also wish they still had olives available. I enjoy this place. I have been here two times and I have yet to be disappointed. Both times have been consistently amazing. I like the Chipotle style service they offer. They have so many different choices, and you get so much food for your money, I have always brought home tons of leftovers. The food tastes very fresh. I opt for the chicken shawarma bowl with almost every topping. It just melts in your mouth with flavor. One child enjoys the sandwiches while the other prefers the lentil soup and a side of rice. The lentil soup was not as thick as I prefer, but very heavy on the flavor. When we arrived they had run out of fries, but do have sides of pita chips and pita bread. This is definitely a place that satisfies cravings without taking too much time compared to a formal restaurant. Perfect for a quick bite. Time to update this review, almost 3 years later! Mr. Kabob Xpress is one of the only places I go to rather frequently. $7 will get you a very, very large wrap sandwich - I usually eat about half and save the other half for another meal - or $8 to $9 will get you a bowl, with your choice of veggies and proteins. I usually get a chicken kabob wrap with garlic as the base, along with some rice, tabbouleh, onions, cucumber/tomato mix, and pickles, and finish it off with the house dressing. This past time I tried the couscous instead of rice, and although it was good, it was a little too tomato-y for me. I had an issue once where my order didn't ring up right and the cashier didn't know how to fix it; she gave me the owner's email, and when I emailed him to inquire about it, he actually refunded my entire meal, which was great customer service. Definitely one of the better Mediterranean places in the area and I love that it's Subway-esque in that you can choose what ingredients you want in your bowl or wrap. Highly recommend. read more

We have frequently seen coupons for Mr. Kabob Express in Troy but hadn't yet gotten around to trying it. I needed to run some errands and my wife was in the middle of a project so she suggested I take the coupon for a Buy One Get One Free Bowl along and bring home a carry out. So I completed the errands and headed to Mr. Kabob when my wife texted, not happy, to tell me I left the coupon home. So I drove past the restaurant and went home (about 3-4 miles each way) to get the coupon. I finally walked into Mr. Kabob Express around 12:30pm Friday and found no line. I then realized the coupon was valid after 3pm! It just wasn't my day. As I turned to leave, it occurred to me to ask the young lady behind the counter if she would check with the manager to see if they would make an exception...he said, "OK!" Things were looking up. I proceeded to order two 50-50 Chicken Schwarma and Chicken Kabob Bowls. Their process is similar to other restaurants offering bowls and wraps where you pick a base (Garlic) then add lettuce and a variety of vegetables, rice/couscous, more stuff, then meats, and sauce on top (Tzatziki sauce). I didn't keep good notes on what all went in but the results were delicious. Then I learned that the coupon required two drink purchases...always a catch...so added two Diet Cokes! Total was just over $13 and also included some pita bread. I have to add that the young lady that built my Bowls was super patient with a first timer trying to figure out how their system works and guided me along step by step as pleasant as could be; unfortunately, I did not get her name. But she made an excellent representative for Mr. Kabob. Once I got home, as I already mentioned, the food was tasty, fresh, and filling. Both my wife and I could only eat about half so we put it away and later finished it for dinner. I found out about this restaurant through my Lebanese coworker, who said that this place has the best, authentic Mediterranean food. As high as my expectations were, Mr. Kabob exceeded them. My favorite entrée to get there is the chicken shawarma wrap. The chicken meat is fresh and has a delicious chargrilled taste. I've never seen so many options for add-ins in a chicken shawarma sandwich: garlic sauce, hummus, lettuce, grilled vegetables, pickles, couscous, rice, quinoa, tomatoes, feta, chickpeas, pita chip crumbles, etc. Add in as many different ones as you want without additional cost. They are generous with their portions, and it is reasonably priced. I would be remiss if I didn't mention their falafel. Before coming here, I never really liked falafel. First of all, I don't really like chickpeas, and second of all, the falafel I ate was always too dense and bland. They do it right here - it's not too thick, it's crunchy on the outside, and it's seasoned perfectly. I recommend signing up for their rewards program, which is through the FiveStars app. In addition to racking up points for free items every time you eat there, you will also occasionally receive bonus offers (e.g. 50% off any item) via text.
