I love this place, it always smells amazing when you walk in, sometimes you can even smell it from the parking lot. Definitely my favorite bbq in town! Loved their old location and definitely glad that they are still in business and now just down the street from me!! Excellent service!!! Mr. K himself is very kind and friendly but also Dennis is very helpful and patient. My mother (who asks a billion questions) recently placed a catering order and they were both very kind to her. Went in to order baby back pork ribs. When I got there, they said they were not babybacks but spare ribs. So I ordered two pulled pork sandwiches. Wow! That is the biggest, and Imo, best pulled pork sandwich I have had in a long time. The sandwich was overflowing with pork, and the bbq sauce was tangy sweet! Perfect. Im a big guy, but it filled me up nicely. Would I recommend to friends....definetly. Would I go back....yes,If I am ever in the area again! Kudos to Mr K's!!! read more

I was passing through and looked up barbecue places when I saw Mr. Kay's barbecue come up on restaurants nearby. I can't rave enough about how good the food is here.I got the barbecue chicken plate and a beef rib with collard greens and sweet potatoes and finished it off with some of their peach cobbler. All outstanding. This isn't your sweet dark Texas barbecue. It's more of a back east mustard based and damn it was good. I will stop again. Too bad it's too far for me to drive daily. I came here at around 12pm on Saturday and I can appreciate how the inside was so clean and aroma of that bbq let me start off by saying Don had the best service and let me know what they didnt have and did and what I could get instead. I got the beef brisket platter with greens and yams it came with a cornbread muffin, 2 drinks Purple Koolaid ( Grape), sweet tea, bbq chicken pulled sandwich and peach cobbler the minute I got home I said let me try this sandwich and omg I hit the laundry door because thats how good it was. Not only was it savory but it was just right bbq sauce was not spicy it was perfect!!!!! Now let me tell you not everyone knows how to make a peach cobbler and that blew my socks off because I appreciate a good desert felt like my grandmother was in that kitchen cooking. You can't miss it, look for a blue building on the corner of South Street and Park Avenue. Their off street lot can fit a few cars. Wasn't too busy on a weekday. Don't expect fine dining here! Self serve utensil/drink stations, paper towel rolls instead of napkins, plastic picnic tables inside the dining room, foam takeout containers even if not ordering to-go... the focus is on the food. They have smoked meats à la carte, plates (protein with bread and your choice of two sides), sandwiches, and other side dishes. Desserts include peach cobbler, pecan pie, sweet potato pie, and cheesecake. BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich - smokey and well seasoned! Sesame bun was ordinary BBQ Pork Sandwich - this one was excessively drowning in sauce but still tough to chew. Maybe to hide the quality of the meat? Great local place. I have been coming here for years. The interior is just laid back rustic bbq joint. Love the old school feel. They have kool aid on deck.... Need I say more??? Ordered the sloppy Joe. 7.6/10 collard greens 10/10 Mac n cheese 7.9/10 corn bread 8.8/10 and a hot link 9.2/10. Mac n cheese was great. A bit watery but very delicious. Not smoked. The sloppy Joe was delicious. A bit too much bark crunch in the mixture. The greens are seasoned and cook to perfection. Corn bread is a bit dry but flavor is fantastic. I have loved this place for forever, and used to schedule any meeting I had to have in that side of the world near lunchtime, just so I could eat there. Last night I was at 22nd and i10 at 4p and declared it close enough to them and dinner to count, so the daughter and I went. The daughter got the rib plate, and asked for both her sides to be sweet potatoes. Because they are that good. Cinnamon and brown sugar and nice and soft. I stole a bite. Or three. I got the combo plate - rib, hot links, sliced beef. The ribs are messy to eat (at least how we ate them) but there is a roll of paper towels on the counter and at 4p no one around to judge. I had the baked beans as a side, and they are spicy and insanely flavorful. Best beans I've ever had. The owner was there, and he is very nice. We had a great conversation about food. He was also training who I am assuming is a new hire, and was very patient and kind with him - exactly how you want to see employees being treated. It's a great environment. This is the one BBQ restaurant I will frequent in Tucson. It's at least 50 miles from home but when I'm in the area (S Park near airport) I find time. Chains such as Dickeys on Ina Rd. are overpriced and lacking quality and taste. Tucson does not have many choices. Limited menu but honest BBQ at reasonable prices. This is my BBQ spot on the Southside. My kids love the Mac & Cheese - we love everything else! I am a huge fan of the pulled pork! The owner will not share secrets except they use mesquite. Because itnis southern style bbq I think they smoke at a lower temperature because the pork is extremely juicy. I recommend getting there sooner than later for the freshest of the fresh because they close @ 6pm. read more

I was told about this place years ago but I never got a chance to try it. I had some time so I placed a order and the service over the phone was amazing. They helped me make choices and explained the menu to me. I got to the place and even inside the service was great. The lady in the front was so helpful and even gave me a free drink to try awesome !! I told her I have never been here so she talked about the place and then asked me if I have tried then drinks. I said no so she said try it and I hope you return. Made me feel very welcoming and comfortable so I will definitely return. Ok now the food, I got some brisket, hot links, ribs, beans, coleslaw, cornbread, corn and potato salad. All had great flavors but I loved the hot links and potato salad the most. Extended stay in Tucson (Thanks Covid) & using the time to explore the food scene a little deeper. Decided to try out Tucson Barbecue, we love beef ribs so started with Mr. K's. I was also craving Catfish so we did two plates. Very reasonable prices for a plate with two sides & cornbread($12.75). We had our own drinks in the car. Getting out the car you could smell the Q floating in the air as you walked up (always good). The smell starts the salivating going & stomach rumbling. Warmly greeted as we walked in by Mr. K himself, I love it when I see the owner at the counter, tells me I am in a legit Mom & Pops Joint. Mr. K was friendly & walked us through the menu, definitely takes pride in his food. Starting with Catfish plate - We both loved it, the fish was hot, just the right crisp, and very flavorful. It satisfied my craving for some fried catfish. The sides were complementary to the main dish, the mac&cheese was creamy as promised. The barbeque (beef ribs) were very tasty, you cannot always find beef ribs so happy when we do. The sauce was spot on, wife loved it, very flavorful. The bones were picked clean & the sauce was everywhere as it should be. The candied yams were sweet & delicious, not a huge fan of the beans, but that is just me. Overall, our stop was worth it, it satisfied some cravings & we met some more friendly people in Tucson. read more
