Holy Smokin's Butts is a fantastic BBQ place I found, based on a Yelp reviews. My fellow Yelpers did not let us down! I loved this place and frankly, although great Mexican food in Tucson is a given, I didn't know they had good barbeque too. They had all my favorites, so my wife and I decided to split the The Big "Q" Platter for $38. This included Brisket, Pulled Pork, Tri-tip, Sausage, Turkey, two St. Louis Style Pork Ribs, and 4 slices of toast with our choice of two eight-ounce sides (we chose the baked beans and coleslaw. My favorites were the Ribs, Brisket, Tri-tip, and baked beans. The turky was solid and smokey. I'm not really a fan of sausage, but my wife enjoyed these. I loved that you could really taste the smokey taste and that everything was fresh, juicy, and tender. The baked beans were the kind of love, with pieces of pork throughout the mixture. Because we split this platter (with leftovers), it was quite a good deal. When the bill came, the waitress listed a bunch of things that qualified for an extra discount, so we scored an additional 10% off for being seniors. If I lived in Tucson, this place would be on my regular restaurant rotation, which is high praise indeed! read more

We used to love this barbecue spot, but the service has become absolutely terrible. The posted closing time is 8:00 PM, and while I understand it is posted that the dining room closes at 7:40 PM, it is not so serious that you should immediately turn away a family walking in right at that exact minute. Rejecting my wife and two kids and willfully losing out on revenue twenty minutes before the restaurant actually closes is completely unacceptable. I hope management starts paying closer attention to how their staff treats incoming patrons. Your food might be good, but you are not that special. Show some respect to your customers. I want to preface by stating that any BBQ spot that "Sells until sold out" is a testimate to good fresh BBQ. So this rating is unfortunately based on the fact that we stopped in for dinner at around 1730, and some things were already low/out. Front or house lacked any energy or emotion. Kind of weird to have someone like that up front. Just an observation. Our actual server was great though. Very nice. Great rapport. Food was pretty good. The Pork Belly, Ribs and Tri tip were fantastic. The let down? Brisket. I don't know how it's possible, but it lacked any flavor outside the bark. Smoke had little to no penetration. It took hot sauce to redeem. And being it was 1730, it was a bit on the dry side. Sides were all good, though we weren't fans of the fries. Real potatoes, which was great....but definitely lacked flavor. BBQ is a very finicky subject in which to review because there's so many nuances. However Holy Smokin Butts does a decent job, worthy of, at minimum, a try. I would skip the brisket next time though. read more

It's been a while since we visited and this time we ordered through DoorDash instead of dining in. Food arrived hot and fresh. Turkey, brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork and sausage were ALL fantastic, and that says an extra lot because we had to wait for the delivery people to get it to us! This is a legit spot for bbq. The brisket is tender, juicy, flavorful, and the bark is mouth watering. Pulled pork had excellent smoke and fatty tenderness. The pork belly had great savory flavor, but could be a bit more tender. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and a blast of flavors. This is my second time here, the first time ended with some pretty bad food poisoning and if it wasn't for a friend's birthday party I would never have gone here a second time. I decided to steer clear of the pork ribs and get a burger instead. It was a nice chunk of meat without much flavor or seasoning, French fries with made to order and were nice and hot. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. I find the BBQ here somewhat mediocre, the table side sauces were not very appealing and tasted watered down. Our service was excellent, Taylor our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We traveled to Tucson from The Antelope Valley for a couple days to attend a close family friend's services so the reason for the trip wasn't a joyous one. On our final day in Tucson my husband and I decided to stop by with our kiddos to have dinner. It was the best decision we made! Everyone was so welcoming, our server was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious!!! Best brisket & pull pork sandwich I've had! Besides the amazing food and wonderful experience our server is what truly stood out. I wish I remembered her name but she was sweet to my kiddos and very attentive to us. (She is a petite young woman with plug earrings) Without even knowing the emotional day we had she managed to lift our spirits with her compassion, patience and wonderful service especially with our kiddos. The salads we ordered for our asides seemed a bit on the small side, but salad wasn't the main draw for why we went there! By the time we got to the restaurant, they were out of several of their meats, but fortunately they still had all the ones in this platter. This is a place that my wife and I have been wanting to try but it being on the other side of town, it took us some time. The inside of the restaurant is what you would expect the most barbecue or steak restaurants. We were seated quickly, and our waitress took our drink orders. We informed her that it was our first time there, so she went over the menu which is small, but to the point. We got the combo platter which came with brisket, turkey tri-tip pulled pork and sausage. the two sides we got was the beans and mac & cheese and we also got a side salad to share. Holy Smokin Butts is probably the best BBQ this side of Tucson. The meats are cooked just right, I especially like their brisket (moist vs lean). The platters are a great way to try out a few different meats so that you can gauge what you like, and what to order for future visits(and you will keep coming back!--it is that good). The pork belly sandwiches are really good here too and the variety in bbq sauces as well. Personally, I like the mix of the Sweet with the Spicy bbq sauce--flavors complement the meats really well. For drinks, I really liked that they have a prickly pear cider on draft as well as other local beers. The service is really nice and I appreciate that they have a whiteboard upfront that shows whether they're low or have ran our of certain meats...as for the ambiance, I like the no nonsense layout of the restaurant inside and they small booths and big tables for larger groups as well. Certain days/nights I think there is live music here but not 100% sure as I haven't been to any of these events, but def have been here multiple times enjoying the best bbq on the east side. read more

We were in town on vacation and made a reservation for 6PM on a Friday night. They were pretty full, but still a few tables open, so might be OK to try to get in without a reservation. They had some good local draft beers; I had the Mother Road Station Tower IPA which went really nicely with the BBQ. Two of us shared the Big Q platter which had some of everything. We loved it all! The brisket was so tender and flavorful, the pulled pork was delicious and the sausage and turkey were excellent as well. We had fries and beans as our sides and the fries were definitely fresh cut and fried to order. The beans were a mix of a couple different types and were seasoned nicely with just the right amount of onion and weren't too sweet. We had leftovers to take home so definitely plenty of food for two. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed and not noisy making it easy to have a conversation. Parking is available in the big shared lot, but was almost full when we arrived and was still pretty full when we were leaving.
