I had been waiting a long time to try the menudo here, and it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The moment it hit the table, the smell was overwhelmingly gamey, so bad that my husband asked them to take it away immediately. I tried adding lemon, onion, and cilantro to salvage it, but nothing helped. The meat clearly wasn't washed or cleaned properly, and the odor and taste was unbearable. My experience was awful, I ordered a large Menudo with nerves no grains and a carne asada plate. I asked if they were spicy and was told no. I picked my food up and came home to 45 minutes away. Started eating and couldn't because it was so spicy hot that couldn't do it I washed the menudo and still couldn't eat it. The carne asada plate came with cactus and also chile. I called the restaurant and was told that if it's Mexican food then it is spicy. I had to throw more than $52. In the trash. No one helped me. She is the tall lady with long black hair who wears lots of makeup. She always rude with an attitude. Her behavior doesn't look good for the business. Been to this location twice after a failed attempt at trying the menudo at the other locations, tried the Bellflower location first and they didn't open on time so we ended up leaving after waiting for 20 minutes, on another occasion we drove to the food truck location in Whittier and they weren't there. So we waited patiently for the Downey location to open, waited a little longer for the hype to die down and finally went in April. I ordered the large menudo with nervio. My hubby ordered the chilaquiles with the meat and it was beautifully plated. First couple of bites were great until he discovered a FLY in his food. At first he thought it was a whole clove, but then quickly realized NO it was indeed a FLY! A waiter was walking by and I quickly stopped him and pointed to the fly and his face was shocked he took the plate immediately. A few minutes later a female manager came to apologize profusely and ask how she can remedy the situation. Offered my husband a new plate and comp our whole meal. My husband declined the new plate because he was disgusted and couldn't eat anymore but we did accept the meal paid. Which brings us to a visit in July. Hubby and I both ordered a small menudo, one with callo one without. My daughter ordered the green chilaquiles and wanted scrambled egg whites she was told they couldn't do that because they use "real eggs" whatever that means. How hard is it to separate the yolk? but anyway she said no egg then. They brought out our food, again the food presentation is nicely done. My daughter's plate however had a crack which I let the waitress know food should not be plated on cracked dishes (bacteria builds up in it) plus it's just gross and a no no. She gave me an irritated look and took the plate away. We enjoyed our food. Got the check and I couldn't believe they charge $3.99 extra for the nervio. Come on! It's all cooked together why charge extra for that? My small menudo with nervio was $22! Ridiculous! Did I get a discount for not getting eggs? Of course not! Are they worth $19? Gotta say no. Good, but not really worth it. Also why have different prices at the different locations? You're one owner with the same name restaurant. When it comes to good comfort menudo this has got to be one of the best places to come and eat. The menudo is full of flavor. The customer service and cleanliness is excellent. All the food we ordered although the presentation and portions were great, there was absolutely no flavor. Found this restaurant on Instagram and had to check it out. This place did not disappoint ... so much meat in the Menudo and very flavorful, it was so good, and very large portions . We also ordered the chilaquiles and tamale plate.. My daughter loved it. I was not expecting that much food on one plate, you will not leave hungry. We needed a nap after all this food. Horrible customer service, Ordered for pick up a large menudo with no leg or nerve and hominy. Got all leg and nerve with no hominem. No big deal, called to see if I can pick up it up (I had thrown most of it away in search of the hominy). Person on the phone stated she was the manager.
