Mr Steve is Excellent!! I have a good quality 2 year old Snapper mower that had sat in the shed for a year with a little gas in it, and I couldn't get it to start. I loaded it up late in the afternoon and stopped by the shop my landscaper uses and referred me to, and they wanted $100 deposit and said 3 weeks at least to get around to it, then proceeded to try to sell me a new mower. After reading his reviews, I called Mr. Steve from the parking lot of my landscapers preferred shop & Mr Steve told me to come on by & he would take a look. 20 minutes later we had the mower unloaded and a tag on it, no $100 drop off fee required. Within a couple of hours Mr. Steve had located the problems and texted me a laundry list and cost, along with a less than 24 hr turnaround time. Not only did the mower work better than ever when I picked it up, but it looked brand new too! Mr. Steve carefully went over the issues he found, told me how to avoid them in the future, gave me some great tips, and helped me load the mower back into my car. Let me preface this by saying that I believe my entire experience could have been avoided with better communication from Steve. When I dropped off my pressure washer for service I explained that the cord (crankshaft) portion was completely slacked with no tensions and, therefore, could not be started. He offered the quickest turnaround time that I was quoted around Austin so I agreed to the $40 deposit. There began my problem... He explained on the phone that he needed the $40 in case he had to purchase replacement parts for the machine and didn't need to go out of pocket to do so. Obviously understood. What followed was a text message photo of the broken part (appreciated but was already diagnosed before drop-off) and an explanation that I was required to locate a replacement part. He said that once I located the replacement part he could simply bolt it on while I waited during pick-up. I did. I paid for the replacement part (~$130) through the manufacturer, ordered it, and had it shipped expedited to Steve's house/shop where he bolted it back on. While arranging pick-up of the machine Steve explained that the $40 "deposit" would not be refunded as it was now a $40 diagnostic fee. I rebutted that I explained to him that I gave him the machine already diagnosed and simply needed it fixed. After locating (2+ hours with Ridgid and then Subaru, the motor manufacturer) the replacement part, purchasing, and shipping it I was only looking for his "4 bolt labor charge." He replied that the labor charge was $0 and the deposit, again, goes toward diagnostics. He abruptly exclaimed that he didn't want any more trouble and that the machine would be sitting outside his garage in his driveway for pickup and hung up the phone. In the end I might end up invoicing him for all my troubles minus the 4 bolts that he screwed in for me. We'll see... 0/10 would NOT recommend. read more

Yesterday my husband went to have a new belt put in our lawnmower. Thirty minutes later he called saying we had a bad belt and he put a used belt on it. My husband asked to see the old belt. He started digging through the trash can saying he couldn't find the old belt. I guess it magically disappeared within an hours time. Then he opened his garage to show his friend in there smoking a joint. I'm not against smoking put, but you probably don't want to have someone doing that at your place of business. He asked his friend if he knew where the old belt was. He charged $60 for a used belt, still unable to produce our belt. We assume he just put our old belt back on. We don't like doing business with a sneaky liar. Just be honest with what you did and charge and honest price. If you take items there beware he isn't an honest businessman. read more

Took my mower to Steve because it did not start no matter how many times I tried. Dropped it off at 1:30 and by 4 it was repaired. I was so amazingly surprised especially since all lawnmower repair shops takes days and even weeks to repair any equipment. I was quoted one price and it actually was less. Avoid this guy. So my mower blade did not spin. I take my mower to him and he claims he can fix it and I pay 120 in labor + 25 in parts and take mower back very happy, thinking that it is fixed! I get done mowing halfway through and the same thing happens again (the blade stops spinning). I text him back and he wants nothing to do with it, not even look at my mower. I missed a week of mowing due to vacation. Then it proceeded to rain for a week after I came back. My lawn was starting to look like a jungle. I swear I saw tigers going through my grass! My neighbors started giving me ugly looks and I heard them whisper about "getting him to move" as they gathered at the corner mailbox. Meanwhile my mower was being stubborn. So much for, "Guaranteed to start with one pull." Someone recommended I try Home Depot. I didn't know they did mower repair. I packed up my mower and took it there only for them to tell me three weeks. Really? Hell no! Off I went to Austin Outdoor Power. They used to be my go to place. They told me four weeks. My neighbors would have killed me by then! I not so politely told them no thanks. I did some searching online and found Mr Steve's. Well I found them here on yelp. I tried finding a webpage but there was none. Long story short I called him up and went and dropped off my mower. First thing I got was an impromptu class on lawn mower care, maintenance and preventative maintenance. He then told me how to better maintain other gas powered lawn equipment like blowers and trimmers. As it was 4:30 in the afternoon he told me it would be ready by noon the next day. I stopped off on my way home to grab some dinner and he called to tell me what the problem was. As I was finishing dinner he called again to tell me it was ready to pick up. Not four weeks. Not three weeks. Not even overnight. I never even made it home. I drove back, cranked it up and it was purring like a cat. Better than new if that was possible and at a very reasonable price. This is phenomenal service! I am happy! My neighbors are smiling at me again! I don't have to rent goats to keep my lawn under control! Everybody is happy! Except the goats. ***BUYERS BEWARE*** We took our lawn mower to him to fix the handle that fell off (the handle that is used to start the lawnmower). He required a $20 deposit to "diagnose" the problem - which the problem was already obvious. He called us back to pickup the lawn mower and said he couldn't fix it and charged us another $20 to get our lawn mower back. HE IS A PHONY REPAIR MAN! Shouldn't he have known that he couldn't fix it before he took our money if we told him what the problem was. Then to charge an additional $20 to get it back when he did nothing to the lawn mower is out right ripping people off!!!! We found a reputable lawn mower service company that charged $40 and fixed it in 10 minutes. Mr. Steve you should be a shamed of yourself. After changing the oil, changing out the gasoline, using some of that "fix engine" stuff from home depot, my lawn mower was still starting and then dying. We called Steve after seeing his other 2 yelp reviews as the lawn was getting embarassing. He did some extra repair to the carborator that we didn't realize needed to be done, found some spots where we were unable to clean the mower... and did this over a holiday weekend and got us running by Sunday night! I took my lawn mower to Steve and asked him if he could clean the carburetor out because I had gotten some dirt in it and he said that he could have it ready the next day, but I got a text from him about three hrs later the same day saying my mower was ready and that will be $80. The lawn mower is practically new and only cost a $120, I was very upset because the carburetor didn't need to be fixed or replaced, it only needed to be cleaned out. I told him that $80 was very steep just to clean it out. He got upset and said that's what he charge. I only took my mower to him because I had used him before to repair my mower about 2 yrs ago. At that time I did him a favor and sewed him a tool pouch because he didn't have a place to keep all his tools in order and I did it out of the goodness of my heart and I didn't charge him to do it. When I took my mower to him yesterday he was still using the pouch that I had sewed for him. Honestly I wasn't looking for nothing in return, just only to be treated fairly and not taking advantage of. I should have gotten a quote before I left my mower, I just didn't think it would cost that much, but he eventually took it down to $50 Next time I will take my mower to Round Rock Outdoor Power for future repair because they are more reasonable with their cost. read more

Don't give him anything that may be complicated. I had a gas leak. He said it needed a carburetor kit. He quoted $180 with $40 down. It's a decent mower so I agreed. The only reason he gets the second star is because he was very understanding about getting paid after my payday. He's cash only and I really didn't have it until payday. He called the same evening and said it was ready but then immediately called back and said the fuel tank had a leak. I'm thinking that was obvious from the way the gas immediately leaves as you pour it in, but figured it was an old mower and the carburetor kit probably will help anyway. He said to pick it up the following morning. I'll give him that, he's quick. I picked it up and mowed that day with no issues. 2 weeks later, it won't start. When I texted him he said I'm using bad gas. My gas is about 2 weeks old but I've used gas for far longer in the past. I texted a few times with him and asked if he really does not warranty his work as he claimed. He called and began shouting and lecturing that he doesn't remember me but he ALWAYS tells customers to use new gas. I tried to explain that he never said that, likely because there was no gas in it at all so he had already put new gas in, but as I tried to speak he cut me off and ultimately hung up. I tried calling back and he answered saying, "call me Wednesday! I don't have time for this!" And he hung up again. So yeah, if you need a tune up, sure, use him. If it requires diagnostics of any kind, don't bother. And if there are any issues, be prepared for anger management issues. read more

Friendly on the phone before you drop the mower there and pay $40 just for diagnosis. After that it is poor customer service. He kept increasing the price to fix my mower to a point that I would not agree to repair and he would just be able to keep the $40. Pretty convenient. And he doesn't even open the door of his garage to meet his customer. He simply dropped my mower out of his garage for me to pick up! A lot different from the treatment I got when I first came to his garage - he helped me take the mower from my car and ensured I was well treated at least till I paid the 40 bucks... First he said it was worth fixing my mower for $165 because it was an awesome mower but when I offered him to keep the mower for free and give me the $40 back he said the mower wasn't worth $40!
