My first visit to this tire and service center came about because I needed new tires before heading out for the long holiday weekend and they were the only ones who could both get the tires I wanted and install them before the weekend. I lucked into this one because it turned out to be one of the most pleasant automotive service experiences I've had in a long time. I spoke to Dan on the phone to confirm they had tires for my car and made an appointment to get them put on the next day. Dan was knowledgeable and able to explain to me the differences in tire ratings for speed and weight and we settled on the right tires for my vehicle very quickly. When I arrived for my appointment I was checked in quickly and they got busy on the tires while I waited. The waiting area was clean with comfortable seating and free coffee. The service also included free checks of fluids and brakes and the technicians found my rear brake pads were needing replacement. With my okay they also got this done at the same time saving me another trip. Everything was handled efficiently and courteously. Was it the cheapest place to get tires? No. But they were close to the best price I had found AND I didn't have to wait a week for the tires to be ordered. Worth a little extra to get everything done within 24 hrs in my opinion. Worst experiance I have ever had. Very poor service. They took almost 2 hours with an appointment for an oil change. They did not compete all the work I paid for (didn't rotate the tires until I pointed it out) vehicle now leaks oil. Called their main office to share my experience and they did not return my message. I called back a week later and was told they would call me back after they "speak to the shop" and never did. That was their "customer care department". Do not go here. Now I have to change my oil pan for $300 read more

So I came back to install new tires and get alignment. The staff was professional and friendly, but it have an appointment and it takes 5 1/2 hours is unreal. You are a tire/wheel business. Purchased a set of tires with Tire Rack and had them shipped to this Mr. Tire for installation. Service on the phone to make my appointment and in the shop was courteous and professional. The installation went smoothly. A few days later I took the car to a different shop for brake service, and the mechanic noted that one of the tire pressures was set much too high - 42psi. It is supposed to be 33psi. So I had to take off a couple of stars for that. read more

A combination of one of my work colleagues being a fan of the Curry's in Chantilly, and Iain's Yelp review led me to try out the Curry's in Gainesville. I used to take my Honda Accord to a small shop in the City of Fairfax that did excellent work and did not try and gouge you. My understanding is that ownership of that place changed hands and when it did - the quality went downhill. So I needed a new place to take my vehicle - preferably someplace closer than Fairfax! My 1999 Honda Accord has 87k miles on it and needed some maintenance. Inspect the hoses, belts and wires, Oil change/oil filter, new battery, AC system test and refrigerant recharge, brake flush, clutch master fluid flush, drain and refill the transmission fluid, replace air filter and PVC valve, and VA State safety inspection - parts and labor: $897 and change. Service was prompt, Damon is friendly, waiting area is nice and clean - clean restroom, a fridge with cold beverages, free Wifi for those that need it, coffee, shuttle service if you need a ride home. I have some other things that need to be done soon - so I will be coming back here again! read more

We had been taking our car to Curry's location in Chantilly for a year or two prior to moving to Gainesville. We've always been real happy with their service so we were excited that they have opened a Gainesville location. The staff has always been real friendly, very helpful and most importantly, honest. If you have a few things that the car needs they will tell you what are the most important and what can wait until next service or later down the road. When I take my car there I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off like you do when you go to the dealer. We stopped by this past Saturday to check the new location out and have the service history for our car pulled from the Chantilly shop. Damon came out to take a look at the car when he saw that we had an oil leak on a previous work order. When he crawled under the car he saw a few more so he offered to check our oil level. It was a tad low so he then offered to take it in the back and top if off to hold us until we brought the car back in later this week. He was back in 5 minutes with the car. While we were there the president/owner, Matt Curry, introduced himself to us. He was a super friendly and approachable guy. Another customer was picking his car up and Matt took the time to explain the work they did to the customer and how it will effect the way his car drives. It's really nice to see an owner take such a vested interest in the day-to-day operations of his business and make himself available to his customers like that. One thing that my wife really loves about Curry's is that the service managers and techs don't treat her "like a girl". They take their time to explain what they are doing and do so with a very professional and courteous attitude. That's not something you see all too often in this industry and it's real refreshing. They got me in and out in less than and hour. The oil change includes tire rotation and check of fluids, tire pressure and brake wear. This place is great. Daniel G took care of my car quickly and it was so easy. In a time when things can be so hard to get done, he made it a breeze. I had an old Toyoda and it needed a safety inspection. I asked for them to look at an oil leak and they gave me the best quote in town. They also checked out other parts of my car and gave me great advice to get things taken care of. I shopped around and found that they had the best price and are very honest about what needed to be done and what was not needed. Other places were not as honest. They saved me hundreds of dollars. Prior to being purchased by Mr. Tire it was Curry's Auto Service. Since they have been purchased by Mr Tire the service has been in a slow decline, however, in the past year it has nose dived. I was in recently, on a Sunday, for a synthetic oil change and tire rotation. I was able to see into the bay and watched them change the oil and then lower it without rotating the tires. When they were ringing me up I asked about the tire rotation and the service writer said "Yes, it's on the ticket". I then said I watched them and the tires were not rotated. The service writer walked into the shop and asked the technician if he rotated the tires and the technician said "No". He then raised it back up on the lift and rotated the tires. About a year ago we had another vehicle in to have the brakes checked. We were told that the brakes were fine, however, a few weeks later, as the problem got worse we returned and they said it needed front brakes. Then after the front brakes were replaced they said that a part of the the pin the caliper moved on had rusted and that was the problem. Due to the repeated misdiagnosis, failure to perform all the work, I would not recommend them. read more

I was in and out of this Mr. Tire in Gainesville VA in less than an hour! I had oil change, with the usual 25-point courtesy inspection. I also got brake pads inspection and tire rotation for FREE. My car is an old high mileage car and they used (premium full synthetic oil) Mobil1 for the oil change and I paid LESS than $100!!!!! I went to them because VA Tire & Auto in Gainesville, VA where my family has been taking all our vehicles since 2008, quoted me $120 just for the oil change with the courtesy 25-point inspection alone. The front office personnel told me that it is a separate charge for the brake pads inspection and tire rotation. When I told this guy that I will check for pricing with Mr. Tire, he countered with a credit card offer that will allow me $10 off my service on top of the online $10 discount coupon I told him I had. That still didn't sound great because I would still have to pay for the my brake inspection and tire rotation. So I took my chance and went to Mr. Tire without even making a phonecall. They serviced my car for what I think was a great price. VA Tire & Auto is just 7 minutes from my house while Mr. Tire is a good 15-20 minutes away but guess where I will be having all our family vehicles serviced from now on?!?! I had a very confusing and misleading experience with this place today. Before I get into the car issue complaints I have, I should mention that when I arrived, the man up front was asleep, it took me two times to wake him up. While he was nice, I immediately felt a sense of unprofessionalism for the entire place. Not ONE PERSON was wearing a mask, even though on the door it says they're mandatory. After he woke up and started vaping in front of me with still no mask, I explained I had an appointment to purchase tires due to failing an inspection from a different place the day prior. This place had cheaper options for tires so I went here. After explaining my situation, that I needed the tires and my car reinspected I was told the tires I picked out online when I made my appointment weren't available, when it said the night prior that it was in stock at the store. I was told they had tires that fit my car, but they'd be much more expensive, which at that point, I was fine with, I just needed my safety inspection done. After a few minutes they told me I didn't need new tires, and I shouldn't have failed for them. They did though fail me for my rack and pinion, claiming it was leaking. The place I went to the day prior told me it wasn't leaking or bad enough to fail, but recommend I get it checked out within a few months. I was told I'd need to pay almost 2,000 to have it fixed and then I'd pass my inspection. After being shocked and confused I said no thanks and they told me to go back to the place I went and say I went to this place and that I don't need tires, so I did. After coming to the place I went before and explaining how I just went to Mr. Tire and they told me my tires were fine yet I needed the rack and pinion fixed, they checked the car again and showed me that I definitely needed new tires and showed me that the tires are bad to where the tire got smooth, they showed me and explained how my rack and pinion isn't leaking, isn't bad enough to fail, and when they called mr tire to try and see if the tires I originally wanted were in stock, they got hung up on. I finally got new tires from the other place, passed my inspection, and thankfully didn't have to pay $2000 for something I didn't need. Please make sure to get a second opinion if you fail from this place, I would have blown out a tire and been out of 2k if I listened to them. Also: Please wear a mask. It's not hard. read more

State inspections here = good, the people that do inspections know what they are doing. Tire people seem okay too. Oil change people do not. I brought my wife's car in for an oil change probably about 4 months ago. The car is a '16 with only 10k miles on it now. I just found it was leaking oil this past week. I lifted it up, it took me a little while to figure out where the leak was coming from, I would have expected some sort of manufacturer problem like a seal or other part as the problem. However, in my case, the oil filter was tightened up by using some kind of pair of pliers. This did not cause a leak immediately, it was fine for a while, however, eventually it ruptured and started leaking oil out. See picture. In my book that is just pure laziness. There is no reason not to just use your hand to tighten the filter. Also, my daughter had her car in for an oil change about 7 months ago here, the next day it started massively leaking oil out. I am not really sure of the outcome as she was able to take it back there the next day. read more

I've been a customer of Curry's for over 10 years, and have not exactly been enjoying the service I've received at some of the Mr. Tire locations. The Gainesville location was recommended to me before, and I've been a few times for minor maintenance issues. My car (an '04 Corolla) needed an oil change in November, and I was aware there was, what appeared to my untrained eye, to be a minor oil leak. Turned out the valve cover gasket I had replaced on my own with a trained friend around this time last year, was failing and oil was leaking just about out of every crevice around the gasket. When they went in to replace it, they saw my old issue of a sludgy engine due to a previous owner not doing regular oil changes. I was planning to just ride this problem out until the car broke down since it is a 13-year-old car. But, with them working with me on pricing and doing their best to minimize replacement parts, it came to a reasonable fee. Maryann is a delight, and gave her full attention to my questions. There was no hesitation to explain and show me exactly what and why they were doing the work they were doing. If my car lasts even another 5 years, it will be well worth it. Took my truck here to get a power steering leak fixed along with another issue. The 9th time I drove it after I got it back, I felt my power steering lock up. Got out to look underneath and all of my power steering fluid is on the ground. Brought it back in to have them fix it under the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty, only to be told that it was a seperate power steering issue than what they dealt with. Pretty coincidental that both would go at the same time right after I paid for the first service. What seems more likely is that they misdiagnosed it the first time and charged me for an unnecessary service without fixing the real issue. Whether they did so intentionally knowing I would bring it back to them because of the warranty so they could then charge me for two services, I don't know. Bottom line is it was done wrong the first time and they're the ones who would stand to profit from either their incompetence or some shady practices if I trusted them to do it right this time. I will be taking my vehicle elsewhere to get this work done and would recommend you do the same. Two stars for now because I'm not an animal and so far the other service has held up for the 100 or so miles I've driven since they worked on it. Fingers crossed it stays that way. read more

I am giving them one star because when I brought my car in for an oil change they did a point inspection without informing me that they were doing this also. They then informed me that my rear breaks needed to be replaced. They added that my brake pads were at a 2 and wouldn't pass my next safety inspection. I keep track of my repairs and didn't expect any brake issues so I was skeptical. I declined the work then worried about it over night wondering if for some reason my brakes needed to be replaced. I brought my car into another repair shop today and they informed me that the rear brakes are fine and do not need to be replaced. In fact, the said they were at least at 75%!! I was thankful for their assessment. This extra trip and worry yesterday was all because a Curry employee tried to get me to do an unnecessary repair. This is unacceptable. When the opened the front they called me and for some reason I just think they ripped my upper radiator hose. I had no choice but to get it fixed there. I'm in somewhat a quandary here when it comes to judging this place. It came across to me as your typical auto repair center...which in the normal world means it would rate a "1," but since it's normal for it's type, it could get a "4." Great facility, clean, well staffed, helpful and friendly staff. Brought my car in to fix a steering fluid leak. That cost me about $350. Then they also did several other checks (at $50 per check), and told me there was over $2000 worth of extra repairs that needed to be made. I said no thanks. And that was two years ago, and nothing they said just had to be fixed has broken. Typical upsell. Why do garages always do this? Are there no honest repair shops? I have no confidence that I will not be ripped off at any of them. I went with a generous 3. But only because it is "typical" for its type. read more

I wanted to provide an update to my earlier review. For a while I was satisfied with the response we received from Curry's. They refunded our money and gave us a gift certificate for future work. I was actually impressed that they were concerned with customer satisfaction. I was even considering giving them a second chance - that is until I saw the NASTY response they sent through my BBB complaint. In the letter Mr. Bob Curry basically blames us for not knowing that it was a brake issue and that it had taken 6 weeks between the time that we got the brakes done until we brought it back to them. This is a total inaccurate statement. I got the brakes worked on July 28th and came back to them with the issue on August 11th. Less than 2 weeks. We originally thought that perhaps I had run over something in the road and knocked a clip on the exhaust loose. Curry's should be HAPPY that our first thought wasn't that they had improperly installed our brakes. They are saying that our delay in bringing back the car is "unacceptable". Finally, in Mr. Bob Curry's letter he once again reiterates that we should have told them that there was a noise in the brake so that they would have been able to identify the problem sooner. I AM NOT A MECHANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We told them there was a noise that we couldn't identify that we thought started soon after the brake service, but that we thought it was the exhaust clip. I am appalled by their BBB response and will continue to spread the word that people should not bring their car to that facility. Furthermore, Matt Curry sent me an email with this quote "Unfortunately, what most people don't understand when they make online attacks is how it effects the employees of the company, their wives and families. It doesn't just hurt the business and business owners (personally) but the entire company especially when one problem doesn't represent the company as a whole" I don't see my yelp review as an attack. I am stating the facts as they happened. This situation was a life safety issue. I could have been killed by the faulty brake job they performed. I came to Currys in Gainsville to get get 4 tires put on and an alignment done because it was the cheapest in the area and www.tirerack.com recommended them #1 in the area, so it was a no brainer. I had the tires shipped directly to their store from the website. I called and spoke to Jonathan (extremely pleasant) on the phone and set up my account as I drove there so when I pulled up they were ready to take my keys and let me go. He surprised me by telling me he thought they could get me my car back in 2-3 hours (I looked around and the waiting room was full). I had to get to work but when I got off, I called to see what time they were open until that evening to see if we could swing by and pick up the car. The gentleman informed me they had closed 20 min prior.... but he still answered the phone! I thought that was super nice. Wished me a nice weekend and told me to come by in the morning bright n early. I went home and found an online coupon that ended up saving me $21 on the alignment (right on Currys website) which Richard at the front desk was happy to accept. I was dismayed to notice that all of the reviews on Currys out here are all so nasty and negative. My experience was anything but that. Professional, friendly, patient, discounted price, and the job looks to be great so far. They thanked me for coming to Currys on my way out too. What else do you need? Top to bottom happy customer. It shouldn't be only upset customers who take the time to drop a review. I asked the names of the front desk folks to be sure they all got in my review. I can't let this issue go unnoticed and have other customers go through the staff abusing their property. Words can't even describe my anger towards the service I recently experienced at this location. I refuse to do future business with a shop that finds it acceptable to hot rod customer's vehicles; let alone while the customers are present. I have had 4 vehicles services at this location but after my last experience, I have decided to never allow any of my vehicles near the property or anyone I know take their vehicles there as well.
