So I had previously posted a review detailing my very negative experience with this place but there has been recent information that I've found out regarding the initial "installation" of the FIRST clutch I had them perform, so hence the follow up. To summarize the first install: I had them install a brand new centerforce II clutch kit in my Jeep gladiator with 20k miles on it due to a recall issue. I had already purchased the clutch so they told me they could only warranty their work not the clutch itself which I was fine with. When I got the vehicle back it never shifted correctly and then had to be towed back when the improperly installed slave cylinder slipped out of the clutch fork on me in the middle of a busy intersection. I had to pay for the replacement because of course "it was the parts not their install (even though there's clearly evidence of the slave cylinder being installed wrong) so they forced me to pay them more to fix their improper install. Got vehicle back still didn't want to shift though at least this time they installed the second slave cylinder correctly (this time I checked myself). They refused to even look at it and hung up on me when I was trying to calmly discuss it with them. I did so without cussing at them or raising my voice which took a great amount of self control. I then paid another shop $1200 to look at it and they got things working for about 6mo before the same issues that were present after I got it back from Mr Transmission showed back up. So I eventually saved up enough money (and my grandfather left me a little when he died) to afford to PAY FOR ANOTHER CLUTCH AND SERVICE TO REPLACE IT, which Outlaw Offroad did an EXCELLENT job of. During their replacement they discovered that Mr Transmission had INSTALLED THE CLUTCH DISC BACKWARDS. F@$&ing BACKWARDS! So I guess so much for warranting their work. What a joke. I basically paid these people to make my dream truck barely driveable for a year and then had to pay two more shops to fix their work. I NEVER POST REVIEWS, ever. But these people have earned the time and energy from me to ensure that this doesn't happen to someone else. This has been an utter and complete nightmare and I wish I had the time and money to pursue legal action against these them for their complete and utter incompetence and unwillingness to make things right. Don't spend all my money at once Mr. Transmission. So much for taking pride in your work or any hint of integrity. read more

UPDATE REVIEW: The owner of Mr. Transmission called me the next morning after I posted the original review below. He asked me to consider giving him and his business the opportunity to make it right **HE DID NOT ASK ME TO CHANGE OR DELETE MY REVIEW ** The owner promised his shop would do whatever repairs were necessary to my satisfaction at NO ADDITIONAL COST to me. I took my truck back to Mr. Transmission and they replaced the transmission valve body. After the work was done I test drove my truck with a mechanic. The mechanic noted that the spark plugs were misfiring and should be replaced. Although spark plugs have nothing to do with the transmission warranty, the owner said he would replace all the spark plugs at no cost to me per his promise. Now my truck is shifting without issue and acceleration is more responsive. **I have voluntarily updated this review because the owner has integrity. He made a promise that the work his shop performed would be done to my satisfaction and stood by that promise.** My F150 had gear shifting issues and I went to Mr. Transmission for a diagnostic in May. The results: I needed a new tran. The cost: $5k rebuild, $6,500 new. I went with the rebuild. 10 days later I picked up my truck and a bill for $6,600. I asked why the rebuild cost as much as the new tran and was told "because we used new parts so basically it's new." I'D BEEN SCAMMED. My truck drove better...until it didn't. 1k miles later it made a terrible noise, shuttering and no acceleration after that it had the same gear slippage issues that it had before the "new" transmission. Although the tran has a 12mo/12k warranty, after reading the other reviews from people who have had an unfortunately similar experience with shoddy repairs and price gouging, I won't go back to Mr. Transmission to be SCAMMED again. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. Marty and his team at Mr. Transmission are the worst I've ever dealt with! They kept my car for over a week (after being quoted 1 day), constantly giving me the runaround on when it would be ready. To make matters worse, they ended up taking my car to Nissan to get the programming done properly, which they never mentioned at the start. If I had known that, I would have kept it at the dealership the entire time and saved myself a huge headache. Marty also said that the diagnostic fee would apply to the cost of the work done. Surprise, it didn't! I was lied to and essentially robbed for nearly $3,000. The lack of honesty, transparency, and customer service at this shop is appalling. Marty was rude and dismissive throughout the entire process. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid Mr. Transmission at all costs. Thier work is as nasty as the SHOPthey do. RECEPTION is very unprofessional. My car is still broke down after 2 attempts to fix my fuel pump. They only do an eight mile road test on any vehicle. Thank God uncle joes is letting me take it to another mechanic. 18 miles up hwy 85 and it started doing the same thing and I am praying that I make it to work this evening and then to Midias in Rock Hill tomorrow morning after working a 12 hour shift. read more

*TOTAL DISHONESTY*. I towed the vehicle to their shop due to a transmission failure, and, I stated that the vehicle went to limp mode due to a Shift Control Solenoid issue, according to my personal scanner tool (highly recommended for every car owner nowadays). I was promised to hear back within a day or two, but they kept my vehicle for 5 days, with zero communication whatsoever, I literally had to prompt for an update. It is a commercial vehicle and when the wheels aren't in motion, it's an economic loss. It doesn't end here--they called me on the 6th day stating the vehicle (117k miles) is in need for a whole Transaxle Assembly and they wanted over $5k. Of course, I didn't fathom that and I was very skeptical, I needed a second opinion from another shop. They charged me $162 for their "Diagnosis Cost". We towed the vehicle to another reputable shop (competition), and this time I didn't even tell them about the Shift Control Solenoid, they literally called me the next day confirming it's indeed a Shift Control Solenoid that's faulty, the transmission looks fine and they also confirmed the transmission has been serviced before but they didn't notice any signs or indications of a recent inspection (as claimed by Mr. Transmission). The vehicle has been fixed for $780 and the transmission is running like a champ. I called Mr. Transmission to discuss the matter and, pretty much, they refused to hear anything about it, not only that, they didn't even offer to return a $162 charge for telling me a false information and attempting to *rip me off*! I strongly recommend getting a second quote from another shop if you take your business to them, or STEER CLEAR and find a business that would appreciate their clients and treat them with respect and dignity--I didn't receive that from Mr. Transmission. read more

This is a delayed review due to wanting to validate the repair as well as the fact I'm busy and writing a review isn't high on my priority list. Anyway, our F-350 needed a transmission and this place was recommended. Our F-350 is a farm truck and has a hard life. They replaced the transmission in short order and had me on my way with a quality updated HD reman unit. This was about 3 years ago and the transmission is still working great pulling a horse trailer as well as pulling a trailer of hay most every weekend. Great work gentlemen! read more

I took my car to the Meineke shop down the street, and they called and told me they would have to get it transferred to a transmission specialist, so they sent it to Mr. Transmission. I asked if it would cost anything to transfer it and diagnose, and they said no. I got no call from Mr. Transmission for over a week. I had to call them myself. When they finally called back, they said a new transmission would be about 4K. It's an old car, so I said don't worry about it, please don't do any work, because I'll just sell it for parts. When I arrived to pick it up, they charged me a $95 diagnostic fee. I never was told about it. I didn't sign anything saying I'd pay that. It was never mentioned once. The dude just sat there and acted like it wasn't his problem. I see why the reviews aren't so great here. read more

Took car in for supposed transmission issues and they ran a diagnostic which ran us 145 bucks just to tell us it wasn't an electrical problem and would be 1600 bucks in labor alone to figure out the problem. 1600 bucks and they couldn't even tell us what was wrong with it. Took car to another shop and had it DIAGNOSED and FIXED (whole transmission did not need to be disassembled) for half of what Mr transmission was wanting to charge us. So glad we took it someplace else. This place is an absolute rip off and I have read plenty of bad reviews to confirm our suspicions that they were doing what they could to get the most money out of us. I think it is criminal that an auto repair shop can charge you to experiment on your car and never fix it. We brought in our vehicle because it had a shake. They test drove it and said they were pretty sure what it was and gave us an estimate of around $800 to fix it. After replacing the parts they called and said that did not fix it. Now they recommended another fix that would be around $1800. Now they say they can't guarantee it will work but "feel" it will do it this time. What am I to do? I need the car fixed! After the other work they call and say they are sorry but that did not fix it either. Now tax and all I am in over $2800 and the car is still not fixed. I can't afford to keep paying for their guess work. This should be against the law!! You should stay away from this place! read more

I broke down on my way camping in Tennessee I used my AAA to have my 97 Ford f350 towed to their shop it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had. They took my transmission apart b4 I could figure out what I wanted to do, so I was stuck using them I'm from Louisville ky the 3 shops I called their where $26 -$2700 to rebuild my transmission. These rip off artists charged me $3800 knowing I was stuck using them. Thanks for taking advantage of people. Also after I get my truck back get it home they stole 2 items out of it. When your transmission goes out it can put one in a dire circumstance. Places like this (although claiming integrity) are predicated on taking advantage of you and your situation. This is in my experience with Mr Transmission Madison. Here's what to expect: *95 dollars with tax just to look at your vehicle *1000 dollars to break the transmission down and put it back together just to find the problem... Even when the issue can be logically deduced. *Double the cost in replacement parts Yes they maybe able to fix that car of yours... But your going to pay a serious premium to do so. I had them rebuild a manual transmission and new seals installed in a transfer case. Afterwards, the transmission failed and was bone dry inside. On June 3, 2019 (Repair Order #52750) I had Mr. Transmission rebuild a manual transmission and have new seals installed in a transfer case of a 1991 Dodge Ram W350. They called a day or two later and said it was ready to go. They gave NO instructions or recommendations. They said "it was ready to go." Later after installing the two components in the truck and driving approximately 25 miles the transmission failed and I had to have it towed. Once I got it back, I then began to try and figure out what had happened. There were no signs of leaks nor was anything visually wrong. We checked the fluid level and determined it was to low in the transmission. So then removed the drain plug, and much to my surprise absolutely nothing came out. I then checked the transfer case and it was completely full of fluid just like it should be. It was very clear as to what had happened (or hadn't happened in this case). They never filled it with fluid at Mr. Transmission. I called to speak with them on 10/15/19 two days after the failure. First spoke with Chase and explained to him what had happened. Chase asked me "did I try putting fluid in it and trying it again?" I replied "no, I didn't want to because it was clearly damaged." He then said he would have Jerry (manager) call me back. After Jerry called and left a voicemail, I returned his call. I then explained exactly what happened and brought him up to speed on the whole ordeal. His reply was "we don't put any fluid in bench builds"... I said "How did the transfer case get filled with fluid?" He told me "I do not know"... I asked him "so your telling me that it magically appeared inside there?" He reiterated that they did not put in there... I then asked him how we were going to resolve this problem. Jerry's reply was "they weren't doing anything", and called me a smart ass. I then told him I would get my attorney involved and get it resolved. He uttered something and hung up the phone. Obviously, Mr. Transmission forgot to add the transmission fluid, but somehow remembered to fill the transfer case. When you tell someone "it's ready to go" it should in fact be ready to go! All of this could have been avoided if there were instructions given at the time of delivery to fill both the transmission and the transfer case with fluid. Or even had the customer initial on the repair order that was to be completed by the customer. read more

Today I just walked in to have my 02 Accord worked on. Although I already knew what I needed they still tried to sell me on the $85 per hour diagnostic. Even though the website says that is free. But when I opted for what the computer at Auto Zone suggested, they were more than happy to comply. I needed a 3rd gear pressure switch. And though it didn't seem to messed up, it felt like a new transmission when they repaired it. And all for the low price of 134.00. Sure, I probably could have done the job myself, but it was cheap enough just to have them do it. Glad I did. I will certainly take my Honda back for any other repairs that I need, and don't feel like doing myself. And in the event I ever break down on side of the road I'll definitely take advantage of the free towing back to their shop. read more

How on earth does this place have a good review on Google, with the BBB..etc???? I went to get my car fixed after it was towed from their partner company, Dad's towing. They are fine. I've used them before and have had no problem with them whatsoever. But as I was saying, I went to get my car fixed and they said all I needed was a simple tune up. So I am waiting and waiting and after a day of waiting I finally called and found out they closed a half an hour before. A simple phone call would have been nice to let me know it wasn't going to be done today. So I asked the guy who picked up the phone, "I thought it was going to be done today?" He responds with "was it promised to you today?" This time I was dumbfounded. I was told that a tune up was going to be done on my vehicle. A job like this job shouldn't last this long. I told him "it was not promised to me today." He says "well a timing chain is at least a 2 to 3 day job". I was even more dumbfounded because this was not what I authorized or was even told to be done to my car. The next day, I get my car back but it is shaking like mad. It was not doing that before it broke down. So I go back and tell them the situation and the guy behind the desk goes and decides to look at it. By this time it is going on 5:30 which the day before I found out was closing time. I can tell he wants to go home so he asked if I can leave my car overnight again. I said sure. So the next day I am pretty upset so I go for a run and run to the building. After over an hour and a half of waiting, he finally comes out and says, "well, it is still shaking but we replaced all of the spark plugs and cables again. And it doesn't do it once you start to really put the gas on". They checked to see something else and said the compression was low and the third chamber. They said it would cost even more money because they have to take the head gasket off and it's money that I do not have. So I told them "it wasn't running this way before you you guys worked on it". He says "well when we started working on it, it wasn't running at all". So from my, the consumers, point of view, they believe making a car able to run is a good job. No matter if it runs like crap. So I am left with a $400 bill and a piece of crap car that I couldn't sell even if I wanted to. After three days of dealing with this company I am very upset. There is a Jiffy Lube four buildings down. I spoke with them and they are super nice and they said they would even do it $150 cheaper. Next time I will go there, and I suggest you do as well. read more

Nashville Tennessee Mr Transmission. These guys are scammers. I took my BMW to them because the cars transmission went into limp mode. I dropped it off and the next day they called me and said the transmission is toast and needed rebuilt. The cost was going to be $6600.00 to rebuild. I refused to pay that and was told that i needed to pay $100.00 for diagnostic. Payed to guy and drove my car back home. I do all the maintenance work on my cars, so i got curious after the car set in my driveway for 6 months and decided that i was going to see how much fluid was in the trans. I drained it and about 4 quarts came out. The trans holds 12 quarts. I obviously had a leak around the pan gasket. These idiots didn't even check the fluid to make sure it was full or tell me it was leaking. They charged me $100.00 for what??? website said inspection was free.... So i bought 12 quarts of fluid, a new pan/filter,gasket(the trans filter is built into the pan) , filled the trans up with fluid .The transmission shifts PERFECTLY! Zero problems for 9 months of daily driving. It just needed a leaky trans pan replaced and fluid refilled. My transmission DID NOT need rebuilding. So obviously these guys at Mr transmission were out to scam me. I honestly believe they were probably going to slap a new gasket and fill the trans up with fluid and rape me for $6600.00.... $6600.00!!!! I wonder how many people they have done this to????? I will never recommend this place to anyone. They are not trustworthy. All the guy behind the desk seen was a Dude driving a BMW and thought.. This guy has money and is stupid as a bag of hammers. Mr transmission would have got a customer for life if they would have done the right thing by checking the fluid level and telling me the pan gasket was leaking and it needed fluid. This business is operating with questionable practices. Quoted me $2200 repair which I agreed to and then changed it to $6900 when the transmission was supposedly apart. They were polite until I did not agree with the price and wanting to pick up my vehicle. I was told I have to pay $1005 in cash, even though this shop accepts alternative method of payment. I was told for me -"it's cash only". My vehicle was blocked by a pick-up truck with two shady men inside to make sure I pay their cash price before I could pick it up. This business is running a scam, threatening their customers into paying cash for services not authorized. After paying him $1005 in cash, the pick up truck moved from being parked in front of my car I towed my vehicle from the business. The transmission parts were thrown into a cardboard box in the trunk, several parts were damaged. Worst experience ever, surreal customer service. I've called customer relations at Mr. Transmission which was no help, not concerned about how they deal with their customers at this location. read more

Very pleased with the service I got from Mr Transmission. The transmission in my 2010 fusion had gone out 2 weeks before I was gonna make a trip out of town, Jerry from Mr Transmission was very professional and had my car towed in by Dads Towing. Found out next day that the transmission in my fusion was bad. They had it replaced with a new Trans and back running within a few days. I haven't had any issues with my fusion since and I drove it to California And back. I've also had engine work done on my silverado. Mr Transmission is my #1 go to for auto repair from now on. read more

Please avoid Mr Transmission at all costs! We were horribly ripped off and were shocked by the lack of any type of business integrity. It turns out our 2005 Pathfinder had a very well known defect that is actually a recall by Nissan. Instead of telling us that and just testing the fluids we found out they took apart the transmission then called to tell us it would be over $4500. We didn't agree and googled the issue. It immediately came up and we found out about the Nissan recall and class action lawsuit. We told them at that point not to do the work and we would pay for the tow and diagnostic which they said would be $750!! The initial quote they gave us for the total repair was $450, then it went to $4500, and now that we weren't using them, since they were being dishonest, they wouldn't release my car without us paying $750. Such a disappointing experience since we were referred there by Firestone (who we usually go to for small things and who will no longer be recommending Mr Transmission). Go anywhere else, it can't be worse than be charged for having nothing done. read more

I just wanted to thank the guys at Mitchells Mr. Transmission, they have always been so helpful. You can go somewhere else and maybe get your car fixed and leave with a huge bill. At the same time you can probably take your car in to fixed and pay very little.(maybe being fixed properly) but these folks at Mr Transmission have always taken care of my families cars and have never steered me wrong. I took my wife's 1996 Corvette to this shop about 2 1/2 years ago and had the transmission replaced with a rebuilt unit at their recommendation. I realize that this was a long time ago, but the Corvette has been driven very little since then. Today, the starter went out, I've replaced starters before on Corvettes just like this one, but this starter hadn't been touched since Mr. Transmission put it back in after they replaced the transmission-the starter has to come out to get the transmission out. What should have been a simple 20 minute job (2 bolts, 2 wires) has turned into a nightmare. The two bolts (which were put in by Mr. Transmission) were so tight that I had to use a 3 foot cheater bar to get the first one out, and the head started to wring off of the second one, so I stopped. What's worse is that they mis-routed the main starter wire (which gets power straight off of the battery) and crushed it between the transmission and the engine block. How it hasn't shorted out and burned the car to the ground I have no idea. So, now I'm going to have to take a day off from work and take the car to a reputable shop. To get to the bolt which is so overtightened that it's ruined, they'll have to drop the exhaust system and drill it out, if everything goes well. I'm hoping that they won't have to drop the transmission to fix the mis-routed cable. I'm sure this will not be cheap. Maybe Mr. Transmission should have somebody that's competent install their transmissions. The one on my wife's Vette looks as if it was installed by a teenager in a rush to fire up his next joint. A totally avoidable and unnecessary mess that could have been avoided with a little bit of attention to detail. read more
