He gave me the chance to run up the the NAPA store and get the part and he would fix my transmission before he went home. Despite setbacks at NAPA, Russell walked me through getting back the Mr. Transmission and he took care of the repair without complaining or stressing about the extra time it took. Having your car break down is never a fun experience, but I actually didn't mind the trouble simply because of the fact that we got to meet Ken, Rayburn and the boys at Decatur Highway. They are great mechanics who quickly found the problem and formulated a plan to get us back on the road as quick as possible. However, their hospitality and genuine kindness are what stood out the most! It truly felt like we were family.

I brought my 2005 Mercedes here for an oil change based upon a friend's recommendation. They did a…read morefine job, so a few months later when the coolant light was on and the car was in limp mode, I didn't hesitate to call Mike and Mikes to do the job. I got the car towed 30 min from homewood just to use them. I also had purchased brake pads and rotors for the car and placed them in the trunk for them to put on. They originally quoted me an outrageous price to put the brakes on. When I explained that I was providing the parts, and I would just take it elsewhere, they went down (a little). I was mainly focused on diagnosing the reason why the vehicle was in limp mode and finding the coolant leak (I had been topping off the coolant for months). They called me and said the diagnostic was a thermostat housing, and also said I purchased the wrong size front brake pads, and I will have to pay them for the parts for the correct pads. Fine. I did. They said they would return my pads that were the wrong size and place them in the trunk (they didn't give them back and they aren't in the trunk). They then told me the car was in limp mode because there is an alternator problem. We called the shop that had just repaired the alternator a year ago (it was still in the warranty timeframe) together, and decided on a plan that the other shop would come and pick up the alternator and repair it and deliver it back. I received a call after the brakes and thermostat housing was replaced saying they had no room for my car, and that I would have to drive it myself or pay for a tow to the alternator shop. This is wild after I had just paid them $1000 for a thermostat housing and brake and rotor replacement. The alternator shop was in disbelief that Mike and Mike's asked me to do this, and told me specifically not to drive it over 40mph, do not use any electronics (no radio or headlights, no a/c) and keep it slow and steady. This was a long drive at 6am from Pelham to downtown Birmingham on Highway 31 in the RAIN. Once at the alternator shop, they checked the car, and laughed, "that's an old code from when the alternator was originally repaired, your car is fine". It's been month since I've gotten my vehicle back. The coolant reservoir is completely empty and the leak wasn't repaired like I was told. I am SUPER Disappointed with the quality of work (or lack there of). They seem to try to nickel and dime me a lot, and I am not down for that. For a woman, I have a pretty good basic knowledge of vehicles. I have only driven the car 4 times since I got it back. I will be taking my dollars elsewhere.

My parents took their 2002 Chevy Silverado in to get the parking brake fixed and have the brakes…read morechecked. They quoted front and rear pads on top of the brake shoes for the parking brake. My parents told them to go ahead and fix it, once the truck was back it sat for about a month until i drove it. I knew the front rotors were warped before they took it in for service and I was a surprised to find out that the rotors were still warped, even after they supposedly did a brake job. I checked the invoice and realized that the tech quoted a pad slap (front and rear) and didn't recommend replacing or even resurfacing the rotors. I also checked the old brake pads and found that they still had 4 to 5 mm of material left and were not in immediate need of replacement. I was expecting to look at the invoice and see a proper brake job that at least included turning the rotors. As a technician myself I'm extremely disappointed in the service we received, i expected better service and communication.

I then took the car to Jack's Garage and let Sandy drive it down the road and back. He got out shaking his head and chuckling at the dealership's assessment. I didn't need a new transmission, just a new clutch. Jack's Garage did the repair for $1,200 in the same amount of time that the dealership took to run their "diagnostics" I paid $200 for. Now my car runs better than it has in a long time. I just wish I could have used the $200 I gave to Tameron and given it to Sandy's team to have them do the actual repair of the actual problem. Excellent service by trustworthy people - that's supposed to be the dealership, right? No, that's Jack's Garage.
