We were in the mood for donuts and kolaches, and stumbled upon this place. Mrs. Donuts has a wide range of donuts, from glaze donuts to bacon strip covered donuts! However, what I really enjoyed were their kolaches! Mrs. Donuts sells kolaches that use croissant bread instead of regular bread, and it adds a great flaky and buttery taste to the kolache as a whole. We've only been able to buy the jalapeno sausage and cheese croissant kolache, because the regular sausage and cheese is always sold out by the time we visit in the late mornings! 10 Donut Shops pop up in a 2.1 mile radius for me when I throw "donut" in Google. I wave as I pass 2 of them on the way to Mrs Donuts. Competition in the Donut Game is steep in the Energy Corridor. But as a firm believer in donuts being one of the 5 basic food groups, you can rest assured, I've tried them all. I can wholeheartedly say Mrs Donuts is my absolute favorite! The Sweet Spot Time to get the most selection is gonna be around 9am each day. But don't wait too long cuz the good stuff starts to dwindle down. Normally I'd stay away from cake donuts, but upon one of those occasions when the "good stuff" was gone, I got the chocolate iced cake donuts... Wow.. Just wow. The outside consists of a delicate fried crispyness with a moist fluffy cake inside that will make you rethink cake donuts. I highly recommend getting the Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuits, or B.E.C.'s as I like to call them. That first bite will remind you of being a child and waking up to the smell of your Dad preparing a breakfast feast for everyone to enjoy. The biscuits are magical, they're light and fluffy. And the BACON is Fantastic! Whatever they coat the bacon with, (maple syrup I suspect) creates this caramelization that is Off the Charts! I really like that they are staying innovative! Some days they might say, "we're rolling out a new recipe of kolache today" and it does pretty well and then later it becomes the Saturday/Sunday Kolache. Which btw, ask about it. It's that fantastic biscuit used in the B.E.C.'s with a sausage (opposed to a sausage patty, which I don't care for) and this delightful medley of melted cheeses inside. My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area and I discovered Mrs. Donuts on my way to the store one day. When I stopped in, the woman behind the counter was very sweet - great customer service. I tried one of the sausage croissants and a Bavarian cream donut. Yumm!! You can tell they use real eggs for their sandwiches! It was an instant hit! The next time i stopped in a man behind the counter helped me out and was very polite. We made small talk and I told him I was new to the area and was already a huge fan of the place. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the tables, floor and rest room. The selection of cold drinks was huge, along with three different varietals of coffee. Being unfamiliar with Houston, I went straight to Yelp for dining guidance. It led me here, but I was not expecting this level of deliciousness. I mean, holy friggin' cats. At the recommendation of the very personable and sweet owners, Song and Lynn, I tried the (gulp) maple glazed bacon, egg, and cheese croissant, a sausage, cheese, and jalapeño kolache, and a small complimentary bag of glazed donut holes. Absolutely everything was on point--elevated far above what Shipley's and other chains serve up--but that bacon, egg, and cheese croissant was magical. I am usually a fan of ham, egg, and cheese croissants--which also looked delicious--but I had no room in the tank. You win this time, Mrs. Donuts. On a side note, the owners seemed to know almost everyone who walked in the door by name. Having regulars is always a good sign, but knowing them by name is another level of hospitality altogether. I decided to come to this donut shop after seeing the great reviews on Yelp. As a native Houstonian, I have been accustomed to Shipley's since I was a child and was skeptical of whether or not I would enjoy Mrs. Donuts. I must say, the donuts were an entirely different experience than Shipley's and were uniquely delicious. While I am still in love with Shipley's donuts, the Kolaches and Croissants at Mrs. Donuts with egg, cheese, and meat were spectacular. The eggs remained fluffy and delicious, the bacon flavorful with the maple glaze, and the bread dough played had a perfect amount of sweetness. I also got a sausage, egg, and cheese Kolache which was loaded with premium breakfast sausage (and I mean loaded in comparison to competitors). Overall, the donuts were above average and the Kolaches and Croissants were an absolute treat (much better than Kolache factory). I seriously appreciate the fact that the owners of this store remained very happy and excited around their customers. I was happily greeted as we walked in the door. The owners asked if I wanted my Kolaches and croissants microwaved, and were patient as I choose my order. Best of all, they even threw in a few donut holes for free (a happy treat). These owners have EXCELLENT customer service. They should be applauded. In summary, if I want awesome customer service and am in the mood for Kolaches and croissants filled with yummy toppings (I usually prefer these items over donuts 90% of the time), I will come back. My husband and I discovered this place not too long ago and loved it! I decided to order 6 dozen for my workplace. They were an instant hit! Occasionally, people will bring in donuts from Shipley's and there are gross-looking boxes full at the end of the day. But the one box of donuts left was still getting attacked at the end of the day,,,and they were actually still amazing! I had several people ask where I got the donuts. One coworker went out of her way to find me to tell me she LOVED what she ate. We agreed that they weren't too greasy/heavy. This is the only donut place I've found, in the area, where I love both the donuts and the kolaches-- most places are lacking in one arena or the other. Highly recommended! read more
