I work in Lake Charles 1 day a week. We order here every time. Homemade bread to die for. Everything here is amazing!

We stopped in for a bit before running errands and were greeted with the warmest welcome! Things weren't busy so they got our order quickly (a pepperoni pizza and slice of lemon/blueberry cake). In the nicest way they let us know the pizza would be about 20 minutes, so we found a table and got our drinks. The dining area is understated, with wood flooring and tables framed with black metal. The cake cases give you plenty to consider taking home with you after your meal. The pizza was worth the wait: it was boxed hot from the oven. The crust was tender, and slightly chewy texture, with a light and airy quality, and crisp around the edges. The cheese and pepperonis were tasty and not too greasy. We brought home a chocolate cake from the case, with a couple of traditional cannoli. With the kindness shown here and the quality foods, we will be back. read more

Stopped in while visiting town, wanted to have something local for lunch. These guys have a delicious Italian, roast beef sandwich, order it warm and fully dressed, you won't be disappointed. The turkey sandwich is also pretty damn good, same thing, dressed to impress and warmed up ready to go. The space is bright and clean, lots of tables to spread out, and exterior space if the weather's right. Good drive thru for take out too. read more

Delicious cakes. Used to be the only place I would get birthday cakes or just a sweet treat from in general. Unfortunately they're very expensive now. Their smallest cake similar to a personal cake is $40.00 I can only imagine how much a sheet cake cost. The restaurant is nice, some of the employees are nice. Service is mediocre. read more

Many years ago my workplace would oftentimes get catering from Pronia's Deli for lunch meetings but I never followed up on visiting their physical location until recently, when coworkers and I decided to stop by after our first choice was not open. This deli is relatively small and out of the way with a little parking area, and they seem to focus mostly on their catering business. The menu was quite diverse, and includes everything from sandwiches to spaghetti to tamales. I ordered a half muffuletta sandwich with a drink and an M&M cookie (about everything is a la carte here). The service was very friendly, and there is a cozy dining area that is shared with a catering desk. The food came out quickly. The sandwich was fresh, made to order, and just wonderful. The cookie was also tasty. They serve Coca Cola products at Pronia's Deli. Overall, I will start coming back here. This deli is nondescript and doesn't really stand out but is quite a hidden gem in Lake Charles! read more

I Went here for lunch on a week day. And I also hosted a private party here. Both experiences were outstanding. First lunch: the clearly Make their own bread it's delicious. I had muffuletta and fries and a chocolate cookie all delicious. For my book club we wanted to host a private party. The party planner was more willing to to host our group of 17 women. Came here with my cousin to select a Groom's cake for her wedding. The girl we worked with was very friendly and helpful at picking out and altering design option, flavors, and size. After designing the cake, while waiting in line to pay, I noticed the cupcakes and knew I had to try them!!!! I chose the white chocolate raspberry and champagne, their most popular flavors. Both were super moist and flavorful, but the white chocolate raspberry was by far my favorite!!! I also noticed a lot of people coming inside and through the drive thru for lunch. Most were ordering the muffuletta, so I definitely want to come back and try it at some point!!! read more

Great food, nice folks. Too bad today was the last time I'll go there. I am on crutches, and there is no way a person can get into the restaurant without crossing the drive thru lane, and there is no entrance from the parking lot, requiring a LOOOONG walk on crutches to the only entrance...in the front of the restaurant. I was told to have someone drop me off in the front, which requires driving onto the sidewalk to get out of traffic on Kirkman. Not cool. Also, what happens if I am by myself? Add the fact that they went CHEEP and started using the pseudo-tea called Gold Peak. What a sorry excuse for tea. Life's too short to be drinking nasty wannabe tea. Gaaaack!! I ordered a muffelatta tray with three sandwiches cut up into 24 pieces to bring to a Mardi Gras ball. The order was ready at the time promised. But the muffelattas were not good. The bread was stale and there was very little olive salad used. We have enjoyed their muffelattas in the past, but these were a total disappointment. I will not be back. read more

My spouse and I ordered 2 special cakes for my birthday, a tiramisu and a champagne cake. The champagne cake (their signature) was dry and tasteless. The "tiramisu" was not made with ladyfingers, mascarpone cream or made in a traditional way at all to be honest. It had almond extract throughout, we were very confused. So disappointing. Tried Pronias today for the first time. Placed was packed. Cushioned service was wonderful. Tamales we're just okay and I order a half of a muffalatta get home and its not even the right sandwich. My husband was disappointed And the sandwich they gave us we didn't even know what it was. Snag though the service was great I won't be back. Just had lunch there. It was not very good. I got the tamale and chili special. It was stone cold. It was supposed to have three tamales. Hard to find even in the thin and watery slop they called chili. My grandson had a ham sandwich. It had one thin slice of what looked to be some cheap processed ham. Couldn't even get a decent drink. I tried the tea dispenser. What came out was some yellowlish liquid that tasted nothing like tea. Next I tried a regular fountain drink. No good. Finally got a bottle of tea from cooler. This is my all-time favorite place to go for mufalleta. The bread is absolutely amazing! And the olive salad is the best ever. My wife is also a fan of their sandwiches, usually opting for a turkey and swiss. I highly recommend ordering your sandwiches warm. read more

I've been eating here since I was in high school I think. It's run by a family and there's one guy I see every single time I'm in there. He works the register, the drive-thru, cooks, bags the orders, I mean he could run the whole place by himself with one hand and his eyes closed! I've tried different sandwiches and also the spaghetti, which are all good, but my favorite by far is the Cajun roast beef sandwich. It's served hot with provolone, sweet pickles, a little mayo, and this sauce. Don't ask me what kind of sauce. It's just their sauce, not bbq...not gravy...but Cajun?? Yeah like I said don't ask me. It works! Oh and if you need to travel with it they can pack your sandwich cold. I could be partial cause it's a hometown spot but if you're ever in the area give it a try. read more

To start, the desserts, especially the cupcakes, are delicious. With several flavors, anyone can find one to fit their taste. However, their other food items will leave you sorely disappointed. Our group had shrimp "poboys" and a meatball sandwich. The "Cajun shrimp" poboy was served on Muffuletta bread with an odd marinara-like sauce. The shrimp themselves were disgusting. They were obviously pulled out of a box in the freezer (as in premade and frozen from a major store or vendor). I didn't even eat half of my "1/2 loaf" sandwich. As a native Louisianian, I definitely expected and prefer fresh shrimp. Above all else, a local restaurant like this should be using fresh shrimp and not take the cheaper option. The meatball sandwich was just ok. The bread got soggy from the sauce very quickly. The only reason Pronia's was given any stars at all was for the cupcakes. One of the best sandwich shops I've ever enjoyed. Come here for a quaint italian-style eatery that's light on decor but heavy on history. This place has been around forever for a reason. You can really roll the dice and choose anything from this stellar menu. Pronia's has the best soft italian bread, and anything you put between these loaves is going to rock your taste buds. But Muffelatas are the most famous sandwich here, and can offer you a great taste of New Orleans even though you're several hours away. But please, mix and match among your tablemates and branch out. The cajun roast beef is tangy and delicious, and my personal favorite is the turkey and smoked cheddar (served warm, with sweet pickles). Well I'm a muffuletta connoisseur of sorts...any time I go somewhere new that offers one, that is what I am ordering. It has been a couple years since I've been to Pronia's so based on previous Yelp!s, I decided it about time. Me and my wife had lunch here recently and here is my humble opinion.... Naturally....I ordered the muffuletta hot and JC ordered the shrimp poboy. Our food arrived quickly and mine certainly looked appetizing. The bread itself was in the traditional Sicilian style, soft. (Some places have hard crusty bread that tortures the roof of your mouth when biting.) Pronia's has a bakery right next door and I am curious if this is their bread. It was good...maybe a just a tad too soft. The olive salad, meat and cheese's were not as abundant as I would have liked, by about half. On a sandwich such as this, there is a lot of bread and if it is not filled adequately, the ratio of bread to filling is skewed. Nevertheless, the sandwich was good overall, just a little skinny. I've definitely had better elsewhere. JC's shrimp poboy was created on the same bread as my muffuletta (I ordered a half, I am assuming this bread was the other half of the loaf). This immediately threw me off as I have never seen a poboy fixed with muffuletta loaf and I wonder if this is their standard practice. She usually shares her meal with me and I was glad she did again so I could sample this poboy on muffuletta loaf. My expectations weren't very high to begin with having spied her poboy from across the table. The shrimp were of the flattened, pre-battered frozen variety, which was unimpressive. The bread selection actually wasn't so bad, but overall, I wouldn't order this again. There are too many places in the Lake area to get a better shrimp poboy. I'm going with three stars on this meal. Both entree's were "A-OK" but I have had better of each elsewhere. read more

I had the shrimp dinner which was excellent. Fair sized breaded shrimp came with thin cut french fries which should be eaten while warm. Hush puppies were a bit overcooked. I forgot to get dessert. Pronia's Deli. What is it? Italian? Cajun? Mexican? Sweet Shop? Who really knows. This odd blend of items is realized when you eat the food, and see that nothing is seen to fruition. The food is boring, lifeless, and tasteless. Everything is crazy over priced, I paid $11 for a water, and a "cheese po boy". Which was just two slices of bread and just so much cheese in the middle. The sandwich was so boring and there was nothing special about it. It was something my three year old son could have made. An absolute disappointment. There are only 3 Italian items on the menu. The marinara sauce is just tomato water and gross. The spaghetti was sweet? I don't even know what's going on here. Used to the THE BOMB . . . now, just a bomb. Over the years they have dropped the ball and gone from the best sandwich place in town to "nah... let's just go to McDonald's". The sandwiches have gotten thinner and thinner while the prices have gotten fatter. Half the time you go in, they are out of items. It's also becoming impossible to get in and order because of all the baked goods displays. Their hours also pretty much guarantee a lunch only business, so if you want a sandwich for dinner, tough. I remember back in the day when there was no "deli" and it was a florist. They need to repeat the past, just call it a day, shut the "deli", and focus on what they obviously love... baking. The muffaletta was amazing, hot or cold. Haven't had one that good since eating one in New Orleans. Cookies are delish. But the star of desserts to me was the baklava. Growing up I lived next to an older Greek lady, she made me baklava during Christmas time. Pronia's baklava was as close to hers as I'd ever had. Loved it! read more

I went to lunch with two coworkers. We ordered the meatball sandwich, the muffuletta, and the Cajun roast beef. I trekked everyone's although I ordered the meatball. Each sandwich was amazing. Great portions for a decent price. The French fries were much better than expected and it was a nice atmosphere to sit down and have lunch. I ordered the coconut cookie and a peanut butter cookie.
