As a vegan I was excited to see a truly vegan bakery popping up in my neighborhood. Sadly I had to find out that the ingredients used aren't 100% vegan or of very high quality. The icing sugar used (silver spoon brand) contains egg whites and seeing Tesco value's soy milk standing on the counter wasn't incredibly appealing. The vanilla "essence" used is sadly no more than the cheap stuff you can buy from your local corner store - it has more alcohol than real vanilla. Overpriced cupcakes that aren't even truly vegan. came here at the request of my pal, manoj k and it was super good! lovely shop with extremely friendly staff working there. the array of cupcakes and other sweet treats was so enticing! the girl behind the counter talked us into getting the 4 box deal, and splitting the fourth cupcake between the three of us. i had the banana and nut muffin, which was part of the deal, and the boys had a raspberry, coconut and chocolate cupcake, and a lemon earl grey cupcake. my muffin was super delicious! it almost tasted wholesome (& i'm telling myself it was!) i had a bite of my boyfriend's raspberry and coconut affair and it was definitely a sweet treat. this morning we split the cranberry cupcake we ordered along with the others - it was delicious - still lovely, not too tart, and not dry at all. it's a wonder that these things are vegan - you would never be able to tell! read more

We picked two cupcakes - Blueberry cheesecake and strawberry/chocolate. The blueberry cheesecake didn't really taste of either blueberry or cheesecake. The strawberry and chocolate was better. I felt the cream to cake ratio was too high and the frosting was too sweet for my liking. Not a bad effort for a vegan cupcake though. read more

The cupcakes are pretty great and there's no shortage of flavours to try. By comparison to American bakeries in any vegan-friendly city, it's not that great, but for London it's probably the best there is. The frosting is some of the best I have had and I have to say that though few will mention it, the oreo cupcakes are probably the best. The cake itself, however, is dry and boring and you can easily make a better vegan cake at home quite easily (I've been doing this quite easily for over a decade very cheaply). In fact after having Ms. Cupcake several times my first attempt at a vegan cupcake in the UK was easily more moist than the cakes she does in her shop. Hers are bland and boring - but still okay. They're basically a carrier for the delicious frostings on offer. The other flavours not to miss are peanut butter and ferrero rocher (and yep it tastes like the actual chocolates if you can remember their flavours after having been vegan for so long!). My warning to you, however, is that after having picked up her cookbook I was horrified to see the ingredients of the cupcakes sold in her shops (among other treats). It's not that I am naive and thought that I was buying healthy treats - I'm quite aware they're filled with unhealthy things. But you might be absolutely shocked by the amount of sugar and fat you are consuming if you haven't taken a look at the recipes yourself (especially if you do your own cooking or baking from time to time or if you have some basic knowledge of calories and nutrition). My husband and I did the math on a batch of a dozen cupcakes and found that one standard batch contains around 300 calories in the frosting alone (without any sprinkles, cookies, chocolate decorations etc.). One can extrapolate that each cupcake therefore contains between 450 and 600+ calories, depending on exactly how it is prepared and which recipe is followed. Fortunately if you get the cookbook you can adapt these recipes to contain far fewer calories (for example we halved the buttercream icing recipe and the cupcakes were still more than adequately frosted). Perhaps people who go to shops like this really don't care if they are eating something unhealthy or not, but I like to eat cupcakes AND I do care what is in them so I was shocked to see that one icing batch contained 750 grams (6 cups) of icing sugar! Just food for thought, I guess. read more

Ferraro Rocher cupcake will make you swoon!! Not just cupcakes either: cookies, tarts, savories too. Also pre-packaged sandwiches, ice cream, candy, and snacks: all vegan. Tried a few cupcakes, but the Ferraro Rocher (Ambassador) was the clear winner. If you're the baking type, buy the cookbook and stock up on supplies; they have those in the shop as well! read more

Ever since I heard the rave reviews about Ms Cupcake, I've always wanted to go and buy some, but with the shop being all the way in south london (I live in North West London). Always been reluctant to go that far just for cupcakes. So when I went to south london to meet some friends, I popped into Ms Cupcake and bought a dozen cupcakes. They were amazing. If I ever go back to South London, I will make the effort to go back and get some more cupcakes. Also picked up one of Ms Cupcakes Book - The Naughtiest Vegan Cakes in Town. Haven't made any yet but will attempt to as soon as I get some time. read more

I love this place! I must have bought 20 things while i was in here. I've eaten at a lot of vegan bakeries in the states and this place rivals them all. The counter girl was such a sweetheart and made the whole experience even more delightful. If you havent been here you're missing out. Oh my goodness. Now for some reason, vegan bakeries are always made to look a bit punky/alternative. I find this odd, given that for most people it is an ethical lifestyle choice rather than image, but oh well. Ms. Cupcake can be excused. It undoubtedly makes the best vegan baked goods around. When I went into their shop for the first time, I caught the smell of sweet cinnamon. Cinnamon cookies were in the oven, I was told. I had to stick around for 10 minutes to wait for them to cool. I got a cookie, a speculoos cupcake and a club mate (it reminded me of my time in Berlin). All were delicious. The speculoos cupcake had a surprise cinnamon-caramel filling and the cookie, which I reserved for breakfast the next day, was soft and not as sickly sweet as some other cookies on the market. I wish Ms. Cupcake were closer... Or maybe I don't, or this is where my pennies would disappear. I will be back though at some point, when they offer a carrot cupcake. read more

I'd heard so many wonderful things about Ms Cupcake before I ventured in. As a vegetarian, who likes to eat vegan as well, I was overjoyed to hear that this business was just round the corner from me in Brixton. But I did have my doubts, I'd had Vegan chocolate before, and it just didn't quite taste right (as I'm sure others would agree) but I had to try them for myself. They are heavenly, and if they didn't advertise themselves as Vegan, you'd never know from the taste. They are delicious. Truly delectable. Not only are they delicious, there is a huge range of flavours, (which aren't always available but that's the joy of walking into the shop - something new to try) and how wonderful the staff are; always up for a chat and to help you make the difficult decisions about flavours. If you're in the area, or have a spare day to travel, you MUST go to Ms Cupcake and try them. They're better than Hummingbird and Primrose Bakery, not only for their range and amazing taste, but for the amazing value and great customer service. I recommend the Red Velvet; best cream 'cheese' icing I've ever had. read more

After undertaking to the 30 day vegan challenge, I was beginning to struggle with satisfying my rather demanding sweet tooth! A trip to Ms.Cupcake soon sorted that! I went for one of the biscuit sandwiches and it was utterly delightful. The vegan ingredients offer no compromise on flavour or texture; it was creamy and crunchy in equal measure. It is a little on the pricey side, however, I'm willing to pay for such a niche product which is guaranteed to be cruelty free. Great for an impromptu special treat when wandering around Brixton. read more

So promising. But the shop was so run down and grubby. They had essences in the window for you to buy. They were all warm, everyone knows they should be stored out of direct sunlight. The staff are so unpleasant. No eye contact. So rude. They only time they talk to you is to tell you how much you owe them. No please, thank you, nothing. Overall terrible customer experience. These are the best cupcakes I have ever eaten! I bought some for a friends birthday as she is vegan and was a bit concerned that they wouldn't be as tasty as 'real' cupcakes - they were way better!
