I've been meaning to visit Ms Cupcake for a long time now...but as a North Londoner it is really almost a day trip to go down to Brixton ;-) I'd heard about this place many times and most recently I saw Ms Cupcake herself as a guest speaker at an independent business owner conference in Marylebone...and seeing her in person made me get out my diary and pencil in a trip to Brixton. Having been invited for dinner at a friend's house, I offered to bring dessert. There would be 5 of us, so I went for the 6-pack (sadly, the content itself is quite unsuited to develop a six-pack ;-) Ms Cupcake was there when I got there and with her cheerful voice she greeted me warmly. I asked her to pick a selection of cupcakes for me...she highly praised the ferrero cupcake and so I took two of those. Other flavours were carrot cake & strawberry, for example. Later that night we all loved the cupcakes. And only afterwards did I share with my friends that these are vegan cupcakes. This is a vegan cupcake shop. So, we decided to come here and do some market research. LOL Cupcakes I'd give it a 3 star, but for service 5 start. There were two ladies working behind the counter (one might have been in training). The other one that did not look like she was in training was super helpful. She talked to us about our trip and where we've been and recommended other vegan places to eat (w/o us asking - because every vegan spot we went to we asked for recommendations). She was very helpful and very friendly. She told us about which countries she would recommend we visit. I think Poland she said there was 46 all vegan restaurants in one city! I love it! We ordered the carrot cake, red velvet, and salted caramel. The cake itself was fine. Really good cake texture for a vegan cake! The frosting though, way too sweet! I didn't really enjoy that portion of it. Flavors were right on though. I also purchased some Veggo chocolates, Vivani, and another Italian brand chocolate the woman recommended. Very good. Can't tell the difference. The Vivani chocolate, were a bit different. Still good, but different. I also bought some jerky sticks there! So declicious! I bought the chorizo flavor, because my husband doesn't eat spicy stuff, and the other flavor sounded very spicy. LOL I wish I had bought more. I've heard endless stories about the wonder that is Ms. Cupcake, and I decided it was time to get down with the kids. First of all, I like that it's 'Ms' and not 'Miss'. This chica runs her own cupcake business; she don't need no man nor married-status title to define her. Preach it, sister! The shop is small but nice. The lady who helped me was very pleasant and made wheat-free recommendations for me when I mentioned that I'm glutarded. I opted for a cheeky little chocolate and strawberry number. Ooh it were gorgeous. will definitely be returning This is an update for when I went in on Sunday 17th of August; the cakes are all still gorgeousness in gluten-free, spongey form, but I could have really done without the attitude and downright rudeness from the member of staff who served me. I didn't catch her name, but she rolled her eyes at me when I asked what the gluten-free options were for the day, scowled at me the whole time I dared be in here presence, and was just generally very rude. I felt like asking her what the hell her problem was, but I didn't fancy a full-blown argument in the middle of Brixton market. Really sad to give this a bad review but I'm at a loss as to why The Ambassador cupcake gets such great reviews. This and the cookie dough brownie I got today epitomize to me how - honestly- bad vegan desserts can be. Initially, I thought the cupcake was a lush, tasty mouthful of whipped chocolate but that quickly deteriorated into a chemical-tasting and "off" flavour I've had before with vegan desserts. The brownie is almost flavourless with subtle off notes. A shame because the shop is so cute and the desserts displayed look so appetizing. These cupcakes look so good that I caved and got one to scoff at 10am when I swung by Greenwich Market during a visit to London. I can assure you that in addition to looking simply and utterly gorgeous, that they taste divine. In addition to the perfect appearance and flawless quality, you've got fantastic creativity and effort that's gone into these creations. Flavours and ideas have been pulled together to produce delicious treats like Kendal Mint Cupcakes (!), Cherry Bakewell Cupcakes and many many more (including a great variety of fruity flavours like strawberries and cream, raspberry ripple, peachy keen and gorgeous grape). Obviously I went in to get a cupcake... and then I saw Nanaimo bars. My tunnel vision only had eyes for the Canadian goodness and all thoughts of a cupcake (pish. cupcake? naw!) were banished. My bounty was quickly secreted into my handbag, as Nickie Doesn't Share Food. But then Brian gave me a bite of his cookie (which was fine, but pish. cookie? naw!) so I cracked open my bar on the tube. Oh my days. So sweet, but so delicious. The bar is honestly enough for me to eat over 3 or 4 sittings as it's rich and coconutty and chocolatey... I put it in the fridge to firm up and I prefer it cold. Waah! This made me happy (and I devoured little bits of happiness for several days after.) Being lactose intolerant, it's usually a long time between when I can enjoy delicious desserts. Finding lactose free cookies, cupcakes, or pies that are delicious is hard -- let alone finding lactose free sweets at all. But Ms. Cupcake's baking is lactose free and delicious. I tried several flavours: - the Ferrero Rocher style one - triple chocolate - summer berry - red velvet - Oreo All were sooo good! The 6-pack was the best value, using the Yelp check-in deal for £4 off (thanks, Yelp!) A friend and I shared the 6-pack, and we still had leftovers, which I enjoyed for the next few days. I have not been here in three years, and the cupcake are still as good as remember them. Although I admit I wish the icing and cake were equal in size, but it doesn't bother too much because it makes them unique looking compared to your bog standard cupcake. Plus it's cow milk free which is an absolute joy to my ears as well. Ferrero rocher is still as creamy and nutty and chocolaty as I remeber. The cake could of been a little more moist, but with a tower of chocolate on top who care's. The owner has superb customer service, very friendly. I really see cupcakes as a wonderful creative outlet for a baker. They are small, compact and can be eaten on virtually any occasion. And from this standpoint I really appreciate Ms. Cupcake. A small workshop in Brixton really feels like a, well, exactly that - a craft workshop where people care about their work. And I feel it is a great work - to make people happy in a simple, unconditional way. Ok, philosophy aside, I find the excellent reviews fully justified. Entering the shop yesterday I found the Halloween prep in full swing but decided to go for more traditional options - The Chocolate Peanut Cupcake and The Ambassador. If you want to try the best vegan cupcakes EVER then you need to head over to Ms. Cupcakes! It's not the easiest shop to find, especially if you don't know the area but it's well worth a visit, whether you're vegan or not. It's within walking distance of the Tube station. The cupcakes almost look too good to eat as they're decorated so well and, unless you were told, you'd probably not even realise they're vegan. I would say the pricing is about average - it may seem expensive but you're paying for the high quality of the cakes and decorations, and the prices would be similar in non-vegan cupcake shops. For my most recent visit, I bought just one cupcake (salted caramel) but it took me almost ten minutes to decide which flavour to choose as there's so much mouth-watering choice! We sat at the nice seating area outside, and were greeted my a friendly local cat :) I think the biggest issue I had on this occasion was I seemed to run out of cake and was left with just icing but that was probably been due to my eating technique LOL! I also bought a a red velvet cookie to eat 'later' but scoffed it within a couple of hours, the smell was just too tempting! I also bought a vegan 'Wagon Wheel' and vegan 'M&Ms' so you can satisfy your sweet tooth in multiple ways here. If you can't handle a sweet mess of icing and cake, I would say "Get outta here!" but actually Ms Cupcake has lots of not-as-sweet goodies like cookies and traybakes AND savoury items like scones, sandwiches and puffs to boot! Oh, AND some gluten free goodies, too!. So don't get outta here, get into here! The Ambassador, a Ferrero Rocher style monster, is the most popular and a personal favourite. I also love cookies & cream, chocolate chip mint, blueberry cheesecake, peanut butter, banana split... Since I don't get down to Brixton often, I will get a bunch, cut them into quarters and freeze them for little treats I can keep for months. It's my dirty little secret. I have a sweet tooth and Ms Cupcake knows how to satisfy it. I don't understand the "too sweet" people- it's a self-proclaimed "naughty" dessert! What's also cool is that everything is made fresh AT THE SHOP everyday. Seriously! You can go in there and watch them making everything. Shops nearby talk about "homemade" when I know for a fact they buy them in (even if they are homemade- don't pass it off like it's made there!). The staff is lovely and can answer nearly everything. They're decadent but not horribly massive which is nice. Ahhhh Ms Cupcake! They definitely do what they say they do - amazing cupcakes! I went for a double chocolate cupcake because why the hell wouldn't you?! It was a chocolate and white chocolate cupcake with melted chocolate centre and it truly was heavenly, I loved every mouthful and I could definitely have eaten another one for sure! The cake was soft and not overly sugary and honestly just cup cake perfection - one of the best I've had in London! But I didn't give it a 5 star because I also tried the cookie. The cookie was way too sugary for me but that is my view only, I think any sweet tooth lovey would LOVE it, it was just a little too much for me. If you're visiting here, get a cupcake for sure! I picked up a couple Ms. Cupcake cupcakes at the Secret Society of Vegans and was really excited because it was highly recommended to try their vegan cupcakes on all the vegan blogs that I read. I am always amazed at places that make vegan and/or gluten-free bakery items because it is a skill to make these kind of treats, so I was curious to try Ms. Cupcake. First off, I love cupcakes and I have tried a variety of cupcakes throughout California (including vegan and gluten-free ones), so I know my good and bad cupcakes. It may have been an off day or a bad delivery, but I did not enjoy these cupcakes at all. There was WAY TOO MUCH frosting causing the cupcake to be really sweet and the cake was dry. I could feel the cavities forming on my teeth! I took home a Ferro Rocher and a Triple Chocolate. I loved the decoration on the Ferro Rocher but that's all I liked about the cupcake. The almonds on top added a nice crunchy texture, but the entire cupcake was just super sweet frosting! The chocolate cake was dry and didn't have a chocolately taste I expect from cake. It was more like a bland, sweet cupcake. Then I went to try the triple chocolate and wow... it was just like I was biting into sugar. These cupcakes are way too sweet for my liking and have frosting that just overpowers the cake. I wish I had time to try more of their flavors, and like I said it might have been an off day for their cupcakes. I am sad to say that I was not impressed with these cupcakes at all. I applaud Ms. Cupcakes on making vegan/gluten-free cupcakes available, but they still need some work compared to the amazing cupcakes I have had in the U.S. Hopefully one day I go back to visit London, I can try the cupcakes out again and be impressed. read more

Hom hom hom (that's the sound of me annihilating my 2nd cupcake of the day) This place is too cute - the cupcake selection is amazing, after a chat with one of the team they have potential offering of over 200 and I have personally taken it upon myself to sample them all. This is simply to check that they are all edible and good for general consumption... I shall update soon so you needn't worry! I actually didn't realise this place was Vegan and as a cupcake expert myself I'm still perplexed as to how they get them to taste so nice without butter, eggs or milk. Although I'd rather not think about it too much. Anyway I detract; The service is great, staff are really helpful and give great advice! They also sell some cool cooking ingredients and equipment. AND they cater for a lot of weddings. They're also not too pricey (around £8 for 4 I think) and come in a cute carry box.... although mine was empty within 100 metres!! During the Lent, I encountered this lovely Vegan cupcake shop. Thank, God for Ms. Cupcake! They bake the best Vegan cake I've ever eaten. I'm not a cupckae person, so I opted for Blackberry Crumble muffins. They had melt-in-your-mouth texture, were full of flavours and very tasty. Went down to have a nose around Ms Cupcake as part of #SecretBrixton. Located in Brixton near Coldhabour Lane in the indoor market it's a short walk from Brixton underground station. It's quite a small store as are most of the establishments in this market. The staff are super friendly and most of all the cakes, cookies....practically everything for sale there looked professionally made and just delicious. I was very impressed to find out that this was 100% vegan bakery which also does gluten/wheat free goods, and is open 7 days a week. Unfortunately I had a bit of an upset stomach so didn't buy anything but now that I know where they are I will definitely come back to sample some of their yummy looking cupcakes and add to my review. My friend brought an oreo cookie which has an interesting flying saucer shape as they bake a whole oreo cookie into a much bigger cookie. It certainly looked soft and freshly made and my friend said it tasted really good too. I'm not into oreo's but I definitely liked the look of the cupcakes. read more

A small shop with easy access from the market or main street, this amazing shop not only has unbelievable yummy cupcakes, but also a lot of other ingredients and vegan foods like mayonnaise, baking products...etc The cupcake selection is amazing but I went for the Ferrero Rocher one, The Ambassador, and oh boy, I was NOT disappointed. The icing and the texture of the spongy cupcake were perfect, and I actually cut it in half, since it is kind of a massive cupcake. Ferrero Roche goodness in every bite with a strong chocolatey flavour and a crunchy texture of nuts. The strawberry and cream also went down a treat. We liked the mint chocolate too! Ms. Cupcake is London's first vegan bakery. Some people may be familiar with Ms. Cupcake from Greenwich market and Brick Lane. The new shop is open 5 days out of 7. It is very spacious and has a variety of brilliant cupcake flavors and other vegan treats (doughnuts, cookies, marshmallows etc). There are also vegan baking books and cupcake goodies for sale in the shop. The cupcakes are amazing you would never know they're vegan. You can watch them bake them right in the shop. I LOVE MS. CUPCAKE!!! Both my sister and I are and always have been allergic to dairy and eggs, and a friend of mine bought me the Ms Cupcake recipe book. We loved the recipes so much, that when we found out about the shop we had to go, and we were definitely not let down! The cupcakes and milkshakes are AMAZING, and coming from America, it's difficult to find good vegan food (desserts in particular) in London, but this is so much more than good! I love knowing there's somewhere I can go for a treat when I'm in town, and I'll definitely be coming for the savoury lunch stuff now I am officially vegan! The cupcakes are all delicious, flavourful and colourful and it comes in different sizes. They also offer vegetarian cupcakes. The cupcakes are not so sweet unlike others. They also offer classes on how to make and bake and even decorating cakes. You can order and specialized cakes for your loved ones for all occasions at very affordable price.
