Went on the 2:30pm boat last Thursday. Air quality wasn't the best from the fires, and it was dark and rainy for portions. Not the clearest/most picturesque, but we still enjoyed our time! We were going to use the shuttle service but the pick up area seemed a little vague, so we drove. Parking was $12, there was a sign that said 'reserved parking only', but just show the person at the gate your confirmation for boat tickets and you can park there. We arrived around 1:20pm and checked in at the window, they just needed our last name. There were already about 30-40 people in line at this point. Boarding started at 2pm. We didn't have any trouble getting a seat on top, but I'd highly recommend getting there early so you don't have to stress! Cocktails were $10 and very tasty. We didn't have any food. Bring a jacket, it was hot when we left and very windy on the water. Many guests purchased sweatshirts and a lot of outside seating opened up quickly once we got going on the water. read more

The review wasnt nice and recommend the MS Dixie 2 over the Tahoe Queen. The MS Dixie II tour was great. It took us straight across the lake and into Emerald Bay. Along the way they filled everyone in with the history of South Lake Tahoe and how it was discovered and about the settlers that came to the Tahoe region. It was very informative. The crew and staff were very polite. The cost to get on is about 47 bucks a head. I bought my tickets online and got my tickets right away. The tour was amazing and breath taking. I might do Tahoe Queen next time and compare them both. If you are looking for something to do in the South Lake Tahoe region look at the MS Dixie 2 tour. It wont disappoint and bring a real camera and not a camera phone. The pictures you take on your phone wont do it justice. read more

DONT buy if you arent 100% sure you are going. They dont car about circumstances. If you need to cancel, You can get a voucher that expires in a year so if you don't go to Tahoe a lot that's money in the trash. The other option is you get 65% back. So either way the customer loses bigtime. 65% is outrageous. The representatives dont want to give the 65% back either... they push the voucher. Boring and overpriced. $68 for a 2 hour boat ride across a pond is what it amounts to. Nothing else is included and not only was lunch overpriced ($14 for chicken nachos) they were also pretty gross. Between the screaming kids and obnoxious music playing the entire ride, my time (and money) would've been much better spent elsewhere. There's nothing to see that you can't see by land. Lake Tahoe always gets five stars, but it is best viewed from the water. MS Dixie II is the paddle wheel boat cruise that departs from Zephyr Cove for lunch and dinner cruises. Several cruise options include hotel transportation, but many people park at the Zephyr Cove Resort located off Highway 50. After boarding the large vessel, the ship departs on a long two hour cruise across the lake to Emerald Bay. The sections in the middle of the lake are rather long with the shore scenery hard to see. There is a narration on the speakers, but it is hard to hear over the crowds. This is the best time to have a drink or meal. I chose the fish and chips which was pretty boring, but actually not too outrageous in price. Once you approach the shore, the activity increases with lots of opportunities for photos. There are three decks. The top deck has no roof and full views, but I found the best photos were on the lowest deck. The return journey does drag on, but it is a great time to grab a drink and flirt with college students. I mean spend quality time with your family. MS Dixie II is a great opportunity for those looking to experience the lake with young kids or older couples with limited mobility. There is little movement on the large ship making it an easy trip. Those wanting a bit more action would be better off renting a smaller boat or kayak. read more

So much fun! If you're looking for a romantic date night, don't pass up a chance to do the sunset dinner cruise. The food is great, and the view is even better. Cruising to the breathtaking emerald bay Lake Tahoe. When you're on the top deck they tell you a little history of the bay. The sunset over the water is gorgeous, as lake Tahoe is one of my favorite places to be, it never ceases to amazing me how beautiful and different it always looks. They have a bar and a little area to dance if you'd like. They have a love band playing some music for entertainment. I enjoyed sitting at the back where the paddle wheel is. It was a really relaxing fun way to spend our anniversary. The best part about it for us, was that we actually got married in emerald bay, and got to relive that special moment 5 years later on our anniversary in that very same spot. read more

Vacations Made Easy is a third party representative for some of these cruises and they are dishonest. I don't recommend making reservations with the Zephyr Cove emerald bay adventures. We booked a cruise and prepaid the night before. We arrived 45 minutes early per our confirmation email instructions. There was no one at the ticket booth or around there. We waited in the cold and windy weather and no one arrived. We took pictures of the boat at the dock and the closed ticket booth. Then we decided to call customer service which is In Arizona and not even here. They informed us the cruise had been canceled but it would have been nice to have received an email or phone call since we prepaid and you had all the information to do so. Then we wouldn't have been standing out there in the cold and wind. Worst experience ever and won't recommend to anyone go forward and if they chose to do it I would definitely tell them not to book ahead due to then you have to wait 7-10 days for your refund. You sure took the money out of the account really quickly but then I have to wait to get it back. read more

This "cruise" is trash. SAVE YOUR MONEY. They crowd way too many people into a disappointing looking dining room. My husband and I were on an anniversary ride and sat with four other women at a table of 6. How awkward! We were all hot and sweaty and there's no ventilation. My bread roll was moldy, the dinner was mass produced and very sad. They rush you through dinner and throw a STILL FROZEN cheesecake slice at you while you're still eating your pathetic salmon dinner. So disappointing. So dirty. So unprofessional. Sunset dinner cruise on the Ms Dixie II was the perfect way to end our - Tahoe vacation- I highly recommend this ! Frankly, I thought it was going to be touristy thing w/ mediocre food, but I was dying to be in the middle of this gorgeous, majestic lake so I booked the familia on the dinner tour- boy was I pleasantly surprised! The meal was actually deliciously fabulous, great customer service by staff & live band played great dancing music classics like Johnnie Cash, Willie Nelson, Doobie Brothers, Van Morrison- people looked very happy dancing- what a great time we had! The boat is gorgeous & you are welcomed on board by a glass of champagne. p.s. we went on a cruise that was not full so only one meal was served for the whole time so I guess this was not a packed boat. This review is specifically for the shuttle bus driver.... I purchased three tickets for the sunset dinner cruise with shuttle service to and from the Hard Rock with a confirmed 5:15PM shuttle pick-up. My family and I arrived in the valet area at 5:10PM and witnessed the shuttle starting to drive away. I ran over to the shuttle while waving my arms in the air and was able to get the driver's attention. I pointed out that it was now only 5:11PM. He then LIED TO ME; He stated another bus would be coming to pick us up. My family and I waited outside for 30 minutes. At 5:45PM I called the office and expressed my concern as we would likely be missing the 6:00PM departure. In short, our experience was cancelled and refunded with an apology. The shuttle bus driver provided horrible customer service, was not kind, and lied to me. Another bus was not in route to pick us up. He chose to leave us behind and therefore our evening plans were ruined. I'd like to suggest finding new employment. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We came from SoCal and my family and I were very excited to tour the lake. We booked a reservation for a tour and we got our electronic ticket and confirmation email for a 2:30pm tour. When we came to the window, the clerk said our names were no where to be found and that we didn't have a reservation. Her reason was that the "third party" that we booked our reservation with, Viator, never booked our reservation with MS Dixie. Question is, where was the communication between MS Dixie, Viator, and us? We called Viator to get our $320 refund. Viator told us that they made the reservation with MS Dixie that's why we got our electronic tickets, but MS Dixie cancelled our reservation last minute. We made the connection that MS Dixie canceled our tour to accommodate 3 buses of tourists! What's upsetting is the lack of communication. We wasted our day preparing for a lake tour that was never even gonna happen. On top of that, the clerk at MS Dixie lied and said that Viator never contacted them about our reservations, when in fact, MS Dixie was the one who cancelled led our reservations without notice. The clerk even said they overbooked so they couldn't accommodate us. MS Dixie isn't taking the extra precautions being that it is a pandemic. But things happen for a reason. Due to Covid, God didn't want us to be in a compact boat with tourists around the world. On to plan B for my family. But MS Dixie, where's the communication? You're definitely lacking professionalism and sacrificing your customers health by overbooking with 3 big buses full of tourists plus additional families all packed in one boat. What's your capacity during the pandemic? Don't book with MS Dixie, they make promises they can't keep. If you do, plan to call to make sure you still have a reservation before going. read more

We went on the MS DIxie II for one of their dinner cruises. It was cool to get on a paddlewheeler and a relaxing way to get out on the beautiful Lake Tahoe. The dinner cruises have two seatings for dinner, the first seating sits you right as you board while the folks in the second seating can go to the top deck to enjoy lake views or the live music being played on the middle deck. We finished our first seating dinner in just a bit under an hour (to help you figure out which part of the night you'll be eating instead of up on deck). The eating area had large windows, so if you're lucky enough to be seated near them, you'll still get a decent view, but they also have tables in the middle of the room. The food was decent, definitely better than I expected, but I wasn't expecting too much. They had cocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks available for purchase but the included meal came with three courses (app, entree and dessert). The entree had 3 options but we both chose the steak. The steak was fine, but overcooked (regardless of doneness that you order). The sides were surprisingly good, I was really impressed with the broccolini, I really thought it would be overcooked, but it was perfect. The service was extremely friendly (they often asked if you wanted drinks), but was a little rushed. This is to be expected as they're trying to get two seatings in, and, to be fair, you want to eat quickly so you can go up on deck to enjoy the lake views! The cruise heads into Emerald Bay, so the sunset timing isn't that important, considering you're not really catching the sunset when you're in the bay anyway. The live music was also very enjoyable, which is great because by the time you're heading back from Emerald Bay, it's dark and there's not as much to see. Overall it was a fun time, but at almost $100/per person, it's a bit pricey for what you're getting. If it were cheaper - say - $50-$75/per person it'd probably be 4 stars. We booked the NY Eve dinner cruise for a group of 7 individuals. I've previously done a Thanksgiving dinner cruise on the SF Bay and can only compare to this one. What I liked about this cruise is that they offered to pick you up and different locations on the main strip meaning you didn't have to drive out to Zephyr Cove on your own. The shuttle bus was a bit noisy though (clanking and rattling of the bus, not so much the guests). Upon boarding, the staff takes a photo if you for a momento to keep. They print off one photo for each person in your group and will also email it to one individual. Tables were preassigned to groups based on sizing and came decorated with NY hats, crowns and noise makers. If sitting next to kids, be prepared for some horn blowers! We were also greeted with a complimentary champagne. The menu was not posted online when making our reservation, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear we would be eating a 4 course meal (cold shrimp appetizer, salad, surf and turf main course of tenderloin and lobster with roasted potatoes and au gratin Brussels, and ending with a selection of buffet desserts. Additional beverages (wine, beer and spirits) can be purchased for additional money from the waiter or directly from the back bar. I would rate the taste of the food as a 3. After dinner, the crew directed everyone to the second floor where a live band would play and the third floor where guest could go outside and view the bay. Unfortunately, by that time it was pitch black so you can't really get a good view of the lake. Additionally, they have a gift shop on board. Note: For those with guests who have a hard time doing stairs or walking, be prepared. I'm sure you could stay on the first level but when they direct everything to the second level, you're kinda left out. Smaller tables were available on the second floor. I'd recommend grabbing one sooner than later. There is also a small dance floor and a bar in the back. The band played a variety of fast and slow songs, mainly music from the 70-80s...don't expect to hear any "apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur" lyrics playing ;) One drawback is that they do allow kids, so our dance floor was taken over by a few 6-8 year olds flailing around while a baby crawled alone behind them. Overall, our group seemed to have a good time and really enjoyed the experience. For me, this was a good "one time" trip that I probably wouldn't do again unless I had a larger new group to entertain. But, compared to the SF Bay cruise, I'd choose that experience over this one. read more

I guess when you pay $100 a person its mostly for the "experience" than the food. We barely finished our meals because they weren't very good, we ordered the ribeye and the salmon. We both got cocktails which were just ok, $10 for roughly a 16 oz drink isn't bad but it was way over poured and strong for our taste. The views were lovely even with the smoke in the air from a wild fire blocking most of the view. Its just limited because the sun goes down and it all becomes black out. If you're debating doing this I would recommend just the day tour and skip the dinner. Not worth it. read more

We went on the MS Dixie on August 13, for their 6 pm dinner cruise. Our party of 4 all had a great time on the three hours cruise. Dinner was basic food but good and service was exceptional. Our only negative with the entire trip was dealing with the ticketing agency, Vacations made easy. They do not allow you to down load your tickets online which in an age when I can buy a house completely on line is a bit ridiculous. You can choose between a range of nonalcoholic drink options including soda, lemon aid, Starbucks coffee, hot chocolate, and iced tea. Alcoholic drinks included shock top beer and some other specialty drinks. Before boarding the MS Dixie II, a photographer takes pictures of your party in front of a beautiful lake Tahoe sunset. A nice keepsake you can purchase after the ride. Customers are guided to the main dining room with a cozy stage and bar with windows boarding the walls of the boat. The performers Ike and Martin were fun interacting with the audience and adding their own twist to several well known songs. Our family of eight was in agreement that a boat ride was the first order of business for our family trip to Lake Tahoe, and some brief Yelp and online research turned up the MS Dixie II as a great option. After a date was set, we booked online and drove all the way from Northstar down the Nevada side of the lake to Zephyr Cove to catch our ride on a Tuesday morning. That drive, by the way, is STUNNING, and non-stop beautiful. It might have been one of the most difficult drives of my life, as it's not easy to keep your car on the road while constantly gazing out over the deep blue lake and majestic Sierra Nevada range... Okay, okay...back to the point of the story: the boat ride. We showed up, parked ($8/car), and obtained our tickets. Standing in line on the pier to board, I noticed for the first time just how crystal clear the water in Lake Tahoe was. I imagine the depth was greater than 10 feet off the shore, but in the right light, you couldn't even see that there was water due to its transparency and calm. We boarded the boat, got seats upstairs, and took off across the lake to Emerald Bay. Our day was completely clear and sunny. The views are 360 degrees and gorgeous at every angle. The boat plays some audio history of the lake and the region off and on throughout the journey, and in my opinion, it wasn't enough! I'm a sucker for facts and trivia, and love the educational aspect of excursions like this. Maybe only 10% of the trip had audio playing. The ride is smooth, and our kids (ages 5, 3 and 1) had a blast and did very well. There are multiple full bars on board, and food is served. "Picnics", or bringing your own food, is prohibited, but loosely enforced. There's also a performance area and gift shop on board, and lots of full-size restrooms. Emerald Bay is, of course, the highlight. It's one of the most photographed and stunning areas of this entire region. The boat does one lap around the bay, but a couple would have still been too few! The cost of entry seems fairly appropriate. My primary complaints are the picnic policy, lack of more detailed "guided" tour (whether it be over the PA speakers or personal audio options), paying to park, and that kids 3 years old and over are charged a costly entry fee. Could not the age be a bit higher or the fee a bit more reasonable? Those things aside, you really HAVE to take a boat tour while at Lake Tahoe, and this one was pretty solid! read more

When you come to Lake Tahoe you do want to get on the lake. A good option is this cruise. We went on the dinner cruise which has a live band. The boat leaves from Zephyr Cove where they charge $8 for parking. If you are staying close buy you may be able to take advantage of their shuttle. Dinner is included plus a glass of champagne when you board. They do have a bar should you need more drinks. I recommend the IPA and the Rumrunner! Views are great, no surprise there. I loved being on the top outside deck for picture taking as the boat was leaving. Soon after they called for everybody to go down to the dining room. First come first served as far as seating go. The boat was not crowded so most people got window seating. The food was actually pretty good. One of the best parts of the cruise was the band. Since the way back was in the dark a good band is important! You could still go outside and marvel at all the stars you can see without city lights. I wished the cruise could have started an hour earlier because it was pretty dark by the time we got to Emerald bay. During that part of the cruise the band took a break and there was a narrator talking about the history of the area and the Vikingsholm Mansion. When the turistas come to visit me and want to do a turista kind of thing, I recommend this most touristy of all touristy things to do in Lake Tahoe. As a result, I have been dragged screaming and crying on board the paddlewheeler twice. Once I get on board, I let go of the "oh god, this is horrible" attitude and just relax. Never mind my mother asked me why the boat didn't have any slot machines on board. "But Mom! Look at the views!" The three-hour sail around the lake is pleasant, the views are gorgeous, and the rambling overhead commentary about the geography and history of the lake is usually interesting, if not a bit hokey. The drinks are a bit watered down, the food is plentiful and decent, and the staff on board are pleasant enough. But go for the views - driving around the lake is fun, but from the lake, taking pictures of the mountains, beaches, coves bays, and luxury houses from the boat is a really nice alternative. read more

First, the good part, the cruise around the lake is great, you definitely get to see some spectacular views and being on a paddle wheel boat is just fun in itself. So definitely do the cruise but DO NOT do the dinner cruise. The food was lackluster at best. I ordered the ribeye, well they said it was ribeye. They over-cooked it and quite honestly I doubt it was a rib eye cut. My vegetables were barely cooked, and I had a cheese like potato item on my plate. My wife ordered the chicken and it was rubbery, her vegetables were over cooked. We were extremely disappointed. This meal is in no way shape or form worth the price you pay!!!! Beyond this, their customer service is wretched. We called to enquire about the free shuttle and the party was extremely rude to my wife and absolutely unhelpful. I tried calling back a day later to see if anyone had turned in a item we thought we might have forgotten on the boat. I waited on hold for over thirty minutes before I just gave up. Long and short of it; do the cruise but eat elsewhere!! You'll pay half the price and get three times the quality!!!! read more

Re: M.S. Dixie II's Dinner Cruise. July 26, 6-9pm dinner cruise. Cruise (4.5/5): Just how it looked in the photos. Huge. Clean. Even their bathroom's clean! Other cruises I rode on here in the US bathrooms suck pretty badly. They have 3 floors; bathrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floor. There's a souvenir shop / snack bar inside too, of course, the product's are overpriced, but it's alright since it's a tourists' spot anyway. Everything's supposed to be overpriced. Service (4.5/5): The bartender was pretty late, and we were really thirsty. So we had no choice but to buy water for 3.99. Bummer. Dinner time come, all servers were quick to serve our food. They were really nice, even though they are under pressure. Because there were like 150++ of us, and they were only 5 maybe (? Or less than 10). I'll give them a 5 for their service if it weren't for the bartender. Food (5/5): Food was better than I expected. I read on reviews here that the food's real bad, and IT WAS TOTALLY NOT BAD. For appetizers, we got some salad & soft rolls + butter. They were fresh & newly made. We loved it! (Or maybe we were just hungry). For the main course, we tried everything they offered. But if you're going to ask me, get the Salmon one, I think that's the best & safest choice. Our Steak got a bit overcooked so it was hard & dry. I never got to try the Chicken, but my dad seemed to have enjoyed it too. As for the dessert, no-bake cheesecake w berries, I liked how it just had the right sweetness. A great treat to end the night Overall (4.7/5): Loved the experience. I would recommend this tour to friends who's going to visit Lake Tahoe. There was also a live band playing, if you like those kinda things, you'd enjoy it here. Paying $75 was worth it. Idk if their rates are cheaper when you book it online / through a hotel / in their office though. read more

Ms Dixie II seems to fit the laid back cabin-filled region. She's not the fanciest boat but she's not trying to be. The Dixie offers a two-hour cruise going through Emerald Bay. If you were hopping to see the entire lake -- well, that would just take too much time. They'd have to set up cots for us old folks to take a nap. We boarded not sure what to expect. We were greeted by a Mark Twain look alike. He walks talks and acts like Mark Twain. So put on your learning caps, it's time to learn some facts from this man. There are multiple decks for sitting. We moved about depending on the sun and wind. However, on really busy days you'd better stake your claim and keep it. There are audio Speakers throughout the boat. But if you want to hear what's being said, be sure to sit next to one. Otherwise get out the old sheep horn, put it to your ear and keep asking, "What's that they're saying, little missy?" The audio offers info about the mountains, the lake, gambling and landmarks in the area. Which is a big point of taking the trip, right? There is a bar on the 3rd deck -- key for those of us who need to unwind. Lunch is served on the 2nd Deck. You can bring it back upstairs. We didn't get lunch, but what I saw looked pretty darn yummy. And I guess our host, Mark Twain, puts on a little show in the inner cabin during the cruise. We were enjoying the views, greens waters, cool breeze and warm sun to move. By the end of the two hour tour people were getting restless including us. It is a little long but well worth it. TIP: Bring your sunscreen and a hat. We all got plenty of sun and then some! read more
