My teenage daughter has been begging me to try Fufu and Egusi. I located Ms Joy's in Fairfield and stopped there to grab her some to go. It was one man working and he was efficient and put her order together in about 5 minutes. She said it was delicious. Me and my 10 year old daughter came here for the first time. As soon as we entered we were welcomed and felt at home. I'm Filipino and have only had this cuisine once from a friend of mine. We ordered chicken Egusi with fufu, and jollof rice with oxtail. The food is cooked fresh and took about 15-20 min. Once we got home we devoured the food! Really, really, really good! My daughter has never tried this food and she rated it a 8.5 out of 10. The portions are good, and the taste is very flavorful. We look forward to coming back! read more

For the longest time I have been wanting to try fufu as it is trending on tiktok, luckily there happened to be a restaurant near by and I had to try. I called ahead to order & the gentlemen working was very helpful as I didn't know what or how to ask for the right one. There are many soups to choose from that also comes with meat, with a side of fufu or rice. I got the egusi soup/ fufu with a little bit of spicyness. Although it is pretty expensive for one serving but it will get you FULL: It was so good, totally worth it & would definitely recommend. I recently tried Ms Joys African Market and got their fried rice. Let me tell you something, it was amazing. Once it came out my mouth immediately watered by the delicious smell. Are they out of business??? I drove 22 minutes here, I arrived at 2pm, the sign says open. A lot of reviews said they are never open on their business hours. No note on the door. I intentionally came late. The food on their displayed menu outside says JOY, Caribbean and African Food but it doesn't show agusi or fufu but some reviews say they have it. I tried to push and pull the door twice, it was locked. I looked through the glass, in one corner there is only 1 table with a few chairs upside down on them at 2pm. Nobody was inside the restaurant and no food or any sign of activity inside with chairs upsidedown. Just an empty counter. Lights were turned off, just the "open" sign was on. The sign outside is with a different business name on it for catering services for Caribbean and African food. I wanted to buy ingredients for African food, also. Are they shut down permanently? I came here because they have 100 on health score. Parking is awkward, no space to back up your car out of the lot. If you back up your car, you're already touching the road. This is a busy road. Ms Joy's African Market recently changed their name to Caribbean & Mediterranean Market. I stopped by on a few occasions but the first time I visited they were closed, although according to the store hours they should be open. Again for the second time but during my third visit, I found a hand written note tapped to the door saying to call a local number if needing assistance. So that's what I did - I called. The gentlemen that picked up didn't really seem interested in my business and seemed reluctant in driving to the store. But he told me he'd arrive in about ten minutes to open up for me. About ten minutes later he did show up and I was able to enter the store to buy a few items that I needed for me Nigerian Tilapia Fish Pepper Soup (A soup my colleague had me try and instantly fell in love with the spice). The place is small with a few racks of commonly canned items, specialty African spices, and freezers with (what I'm assuming) frozen meats. They also do sell traditional African wear, jewelry, and fabrics. Finding the spices was easy but expensive. I brought everything up to the cashier and he started asking me questions about what I was making. When I told him Pepper Soup, he started asking me who told me about it? So I told him about my colleague, originally from Nigeria, told me about the recipe and I was craving. Small talk kept to a minimal, purchased, and was out the door within 15 minutes. So far, it's the only African grocery store in the area unless you travel out to the bay or Sacramento. Just wish they'd stay consistent to their operating hours. read more

The wife is is very good and knows how to conduct business. i can recommend her on almost anything regarding customer service. But the guy? Oh boy, he is super awful. I hope he changes his approach. I am also disappointed with the store schedule. They close at 7p. I would hope they can extend their timing at least to 8p during the week days as most store do.
