We finally were able to try this spot since they opened. I got the Short ribs with rice and gravy with greens and side of cornbread. My wife got Basa pan fried with sweet potato and potato salad. My meal is okay but it needed more gravy. The short ribs was tender but it didn't rock the show. I'm not sure of preparation but I liked it to be smothered with gravy. My favorite item on the plate was the greens and cornbread. My wife's meal on the other hand was great. I loved how the fish was prepared and the flavor was on point I would go back for that without a doubt. The service was good our waitress was attentive and the place is spacious but if you been here when it was Buffalo wings the appearance hasn't change much. We did DoorDash and though the restaurant is a town over from where we live, everything was hot and fresh when it arrived. The fried chicken was some of the best I've had in a long time. The outside was very crispy and the coating had amazing flavor. The baked beans were on point and the Mac n Cheese was solid too. My wife loved her jambalaya and hush puppies. This was the second time we've tried to dine here and were turned away. We called ahead and were told to be there by 3. We arrived around 2:30 and were told, "there's nothing we can do for y'all at the moment." We understand that reservations are recommended, but when we arrived there were several open tables in the back section as well as available seating outside. We even asked if we could sit at different tables and was told no. What was most disappointing was the interaction with the host, an older woman with a shaved blonde hairstyle. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. It felt as though she was irritated that people wanted to eat there, which made for an unpleasant experience before we even had the chance to be seated. This was my first time visiting since the change of owners - everything was amazing. The waitress was attentive and quick to get our order. The meals are reasonably priced as well. I got the smothered oxtails, but will 100% get the catfish next time I go. I tried my mom's and was kind of sad I didn't order it (even though the oxtails were great). My kids (ages 4-8) can sometimes be picky with new restaurants, but they were begging for their leftovers as soon we got home! I tried Cheyla's after seeing it online, and the food did not disappoint! We ordered the fish and chicken combo, and everything was really good. The sides were great too. There was a delay with our order because of a POS system issue, but both the waiter and the owner apologized and even comped one of our dishes, which we really appreciated. Ordered through Door Dash and it took awhile but it was worth the wait. I've been hearing about this place for a few months now and finally decided to try it out. The pork chop dinner came with macaroni and cheese and greens. The fried chicken dinner came with french fries and string beans. A cornbread muffin topped off both meals. I came here with my sister and my niece after her gymnastics class. I ordered the catfish which came with 2 sides and a choice of bread. I opted for a side of collard greens and candied yams, and the cornbread. The catfish tasted good, it had the right amount of seasoning. The collard greens were really good too. The candied yams had the right amount of sweetness to it. The cornbread was okay. The staff here is nice. The only thing that I'd say is that it takes a while for the food to come out. It's not really a place you'd want to go to if you're in a hurry to be somewhere. But the food here is solid for sure. There are a lot of open tables and parking here is never an issue. The place was quite busy so be patient as the food is made to order too. Our food came out and it smelled so good! I truly enjoyed my fish plate along with hubby. Celebrated husband's birthday here today, and the food was scrumptious! I had catfish and shrimp. Hubby had oxtails. We both enjoyed our meals very much! I love their yams!! I was glad they had unsweetened tea here. Sometimes at other soul food places they only have sweet tea. the drink took a long time. I'm not sure if the waiter forgot about it. I asked someone else for the drink and it came out right away. I got the fried chicken dinner and added a waffle. The waffle was big. nothing special about the taste. The fries were crispy. The mac n cheese was ok. The chicken was juicy, crunchy and hot. The food took awhile probably because they don't make the food until you order so it's fresh. It's located in the old Buffalo Wild Wings spot, and while the interior layout is mostly the same, the warm service and food definitely make it feel like its own place. Our waitress was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and checked on us often. Our food came out promptly, and everything was served hot and fresh. Food: * Catfish Filets with yams, mac and cheese, and hush puppies -- The catfish was perfectly fried and seasoned really well. The mac and cheese and yams were solid, and I especially appreciated that the hush puppies weren't over-fried. * Oxtails with red beans and rice, mac and cheese, and cornbread. The oxtails were the standout of the entire meal: tender, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. The red beans and rice were okay for my taste, but everything else on the plate was great. * Turkey Meatloaf with mac and cheese, red beans and rice, and cornbread. When I tasted it there was a burnt bitterness to it on top of it being bland. They also did not trim the fat caps so the first bite I had was pure fat. The greens tasted like they were cooked in water and not broth. They had no flavor whatsoever. The red beans & rice was bland too. The cornbread was so oily I couldn't even finish it. For a plate that cost almost $40 & doesn't even come with rice, I was expecting so much better. Placed an order on over the phone for pick up, they were super friendly on the phone, totally different vibe when I walked in to pick up. Employees were casually standing around "shooting the sh*t" like they out just hanging out. It wasn't busy at all. May have been the time of day? The food was hot and fresh. The chicken was seasoned well. The beans and rice was very hearty! I worked have preferred the beans to be cooked longer and maybe a little more rice. Was pretty excited to try this restaurant out and wasn't able to. I walked in at 1:30PM today, got greeted, got my drink... I ordered the chicken & fish plate with yams and Mac n cheese. I walked out at 2:26pm, no food. I'm not entirely sure what's going on, it's Wednesday. Not busy. A lot of FOH staff must not be enough BOH. Potato salad very satisfying; had slight sweet relish taste - just how I like. I found this place out via social media so of course we had to try it out since we were in the area. We got there right at opening so it wasn't busy at all. We ordered the fish and chicken dish with hush puppies and yams, and the chicken plate with a waffle, red beans and rice, greens, and corn bread. The fish and chicken was seasoned nicely and the skin on both was perfect, not a lot breading on it from being fried. The chicken was juicy and tasted great. All of the side dishes were cooked nicely and had so much flavor to them. The waffle was light and not too thick. Of course ordering chicken you have to wait for it to be cooked but it was well worth it. Although we were the only ones in the restaurant, the service was still great. Very courteous. Amazing staff, fast service, and overall quality food! I ordered oxtails over rice w/ fried okra and hush puppies for my boyfriend & I got smothered short ribs over rice w/ mac and cheese and cornbread. Everything was melt-in-your-mouth tender, rich in flavor, and great portion sizes for the price. We topped it off with a slice of caramel cake and lemon berry cake! A long time friend of mine and I met up here for lunch. We had seen all the Instagram videos and decided this would be a good place to meet up. I found out the young lady that runs this restaurant is a close family member to the family that ran Chez Soul. I had never been there, but heard good things about it. I'm always reluctant to eat at soul food establishments because I'm often disappointed because sometimes my soul food in my mind is just better haha. The restaurant is a little set back away from the street at the mall in the parking lot in between the movie theater and Dick's Sporting Goods. It was a little hard to find if you don't know it's there. I got lost and my friend got lost looking for it. I had to call another friend to find out where it was. But I made it! The staff was very attentive. We probably had 10 different servers come to our table while we were there. There didn't seem to be an assigned server, which was great. Different servers kept coming by asking how everything was, which I loved! I ordered the chicken and waffles. It came with 4 pieces of chicken. The portions were large and the prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. My friend ordered the smothered pork chops. Her chops were huge and the meat was falling off the bone tender. The food came out piping HOT! I was so pleased with my meal, I ordered dinner to go. I ordered the turkey meatloaf and the jambalaya and turtle cheesecake. Everything was so good and filling. I think the jambalaya was my favorite. When we left, one of the servers walked me to my car to help carry my to-go bags. So personable and sweet. I highly recommend this place.
