Hey guys back with some more real tea Good food Bad Customer service LGBTQ+ community Be on Alert First we walk in, we was greeted with a nice Hello welcome from the young lady. The Guy there greeted me like he knew me ( what you doing here? Come to eat all the food?lol) must've been mistaken identity. Anywho, the system goes down now we have to cashapp them the payment (MY WOMAN) asked for extra spice sauce and the aunty gave str8 attitude smacking her lips tellin us it's spicy enough ( so basically NO) The cashier already told yes she can get us some- but when she asked the aunty she shook her head no not caring that her customers should have came 1st but honestly I think it was because we're the L in LGBTQ+ it was the was she looked at us The place is beautiful tho nice African vibes I love the portraits of the elephants Afro beats and videos playing, it's pretty chill...

In short: Authentic Liberian Cuisine is a hole-in-the-wall gem for anyone craving West African food in Phoenix. After living in Benin for two years, we were bummed that the nearest Beninese restaurant was in Tucson and found this place to fill a foodie hole in our hearts/stomachs. It did not disappoint! When we first walked in around 5pm on a weekday, it was pretty empty. Over the course of the evening though, we saw many people coming in for large pick up orders. Unassuming interior with an array of simple seating arrangements and afro-pop/music videos playing in the background. You can see the whole kitchen from dining area and can tell it's a family operation! The menu can be a little confusing as they have change their specials every day. If you're looking for something in particular and don't see it on the menu for that day, I would definitely call in to check. We went on a Thursday (special was potato greens), but they also happened to have cassava leaves available (usually Wednesday's special). The staff were also very kind in answering questions. There were a few items we never had before, and they offered us generous samples of what felt like the whole menu! I ended up getting the 1) fried fish with attieke and alloco (plantain) which I believe is an everyday special and 2) the potato greens stewed with meat and served with rice. It was about $20 each dish which was a little pricier than I anticipated until the portions came out: they were huge. I got a mountain of rice on a platter to go with my potato greens. No wonder people kept coming by to pick up for their family dinners! Ya'll, when I tasted this food, I almost shed a tear. The stewed potato greens were phenomenal. Well spiced with tons of flavor packed in, accompanied perfectly with rice or fufu. The meat stewed with the greens was also very tender and flavorful as well. Honestly, I don't remember if it was beef or pork but I found myself savoring every little morsel with rice. Mmmmm. As for the fried fish and attieke dish: attieke is like a slightly tangy grain made from cassava flour and water. The attieke flavor and texture was spot on, and their pepper sauce was like coming home. I will say that both their alloco and fish were a little dry for me (I like both practically deep fried), but I smothered it in their amazing pepper sauce and devoured it anyways. We also got some of their homemade bottled bissap and ginger beer that was great. *Note: they only have bottled water for sale, so if you go ham on the pepper sauce like we did, prepare yourself. I loved this place and can't wait to come back to try some of their other offerings when the craving hits!

tldr: Great service, kind to us Liberian cuisine newbies, and delightful food. I found this place because I wanted to try fufu, and this is the only restaurant in the area that seems to have it! Lucky I did! On a Saturday, I went with a group of girl friends and it was all our first time's with Liberian food. We were a group of 4 and we all got dish each to try 4 different things: fufu with palavar sauce, fufu with pepper soup, fried plantains, and jollaf rice. Fufu: For those who don't know it's a "swallow." Fufu is pounded from plantains and cassava. There's another swallow called pounded yam. (If you've seen traditional mochi making, it's similar!) Fufu orders take a little longer because they actually make it from scratch, and we saw them pound it in their open kitchen. From my research, a swallow is exactly what it sounds like. You eat swallows with soup and stews and swallow. No need to chew. I dunked it into the soup/sauce and delighted in the flavors. I forgot my research and chewed like I'm accustomed to and still enjoyed it. Pepper Soup: Turkey, chicken, beef, shrimp, and fish. Everything but the shrimp had bones, which I personally love and have fun with, but not everyone is a fan of that so I want to tell you now. The fish and beef shortribs were delicious! I think they absorbed the flavors beautifully. The other meats were enjoyable too. Palavar Sauce: Turkey, chicken, beef with a sauce with lots of greens throughout. The sauce was a table favorite, but most of us did want less boney meats or at least more meat on the bones. These three above were my first experiences with these dishes. All the above, you traditionally eat with your hands, I believe. Right hand only! We did not eat with only our right hand, and we were not shamed or anything, haha. Plantains: Cut into small cubes. PERFECTLY crispy outside with a sweet inside! Came with delicious spicy sauce and a sort of fresh fruit veggie salad. Jollaf rice: Fried chicken wings on the side! Some shrimp and I think another meat mixed in. This was spicy to one person at the table, and my other friend and I who are spice fiends were surprised to hear that. Anyway, might be spicy to some! This was my favorite dish! We ordered a small, but small it did not look to be (look at my picture). Also, came with delicious spicy sauce and a sort of fresh fruit veggie salad. All of this plus 4 water bottles totaled to be about $75 before tips. I don't remember prices of individual plates. I do wish they had cups for water but maybe in the future! They do seem pretty new. The cooks and person who took our order were very kind and accommodating. We had ordered so much food, one helped us move another table so we had room to eat. Same person also got us plates after we asked for a few. The music was really good too, some of us were dancing in our seats.

    Amazing authentic Liberian Food!!

My first time trying this restaurant and the food was amazing!! Great service, great food, very welcoming environment... I recommend to anyone looking to experience the best Authentic Liberian food in Phoenix.. I will be back!

Why isn't this cuisine more popular?! Seriously, I don't think we would ever have gone if my…read moredaughter hadn't sent me trending TikTok's of people eating Egusi and Fufu. So glad we did! The spices and "soups" (more like stews) are exotic, similar to Indian food in presentation, but very different in how the meats are prepared. Traditionally, you eat the soups with fufu. I would describe fufu like a thick, glutinous, fairly bland, root paste used as the delivery vehicle for the soup to your face instead of a fork or spoon. No utensils! Fingers only and it makes the experience even more fun. The fufu pairs perfectly with the soups and is very filling. One entree easily makes for leftovers. I believe the African goddess that cooked and delivered the food to our table is the owner. She knew it was our first time and you could feel her care in the preparation and her joy in explaining the best way to eat. The dining area has about a dozen standard diner style tables and there is a sink IN the corner of the dining room to conveniently wash your hands, before and after eating. This no frills, locally owned treasure is a must try. If you are intimidated by new cuisines eaten in untraditional ways, look up "Egusi and Fufu" on your favorite social streaming app to learn everything you need to know. You will walk in with confidence. Regardless, the fine folks working here are also kind and eager to help and make recommendations. I'm posting with updated menu photos (Nov 2025). Prices seem to range $20-$25 per soup including the fufu. We had the Egusi and the Cassava Leaf soups. Both fresh, amazing and in my opinion a good value.

My friends all got the lunch specials and they weren't happy with the quantity. I ordered my husband the beef "patties" to go, only to discover it was only a singular "patty" for $6. And if you have a party of 5 people and or more, they automatically add a gratuity to your bill. The restaurant is small on the inside but has a nice front patio outside which was shaded. Things started off pretty good. We sat right at 6pm. Service was really spotty. A woman was kind and quickly refilled our water. Our server took a while to arrive and greet us. As chefs we were there to both catch up on life as well as see what the hype is all about . Appetizers- out of the Agua Chile. We ended up starting with the whipped goat cheese and wings. Then ordered the lamb, shrimp moqueca, and the oxtail. Yes, three entrees for two people along with 4 glasses of wine and two starters. All good intended to be hot except for the wings came out cold. We asked for medium rare on the lamb and it came out mid well. They kept trying to remove our dishes during dinner- several time, while we still had food on the plates. Our server actually came and took my plate without my permission. He cleared our table and asked if there was anything else and we said we wanted to see a dessert menu. He instead brought us out check. We asked again for the dessert menu and he said they only had one dessert and it was a bread pudding. After reading other reviews I noticed this was just a lie to get us out. Can't think your guests are that stupid. We still had wine in our glasses and declined the one dessert. Been there exactly 1 hr and 45 minutes at that point. He came to our table almost immediately after and said he hated to be the bearer of bad news but the next reservation is here and we need to go. That's after we tipped him generously. Just a little advice- post on your reservation page you have a time limit, don't be rude, let people eat. Chicken was dry and over cooked. Food was seasoned well. Server left a bad taste... I hope my feedback helps.

But, unfortunately for me my experience was the exact opposite . This location is set in the Tempe food court. So automatically I was turned off by the fact it's not personable no interaction with the actual creator or business owner . You have to order through a kiosk ( which I do understand the idea of conveniency culture .) But places like this deserve to be show cased . What I ordered was fried plantains, Ogbono Soup , with two pieces of chicken , poundo fufu, and two sodas . For starters , The plantains were a bit undercooked, the soup was lacking flavor very ( oily , had no other contents but broth and the chicken ) so what was advertised on the menu looked NOTHING like what I got , no fixings such as ( no okra , the peppers etc) . The chicken was dry and it didn't taste fresh at all , it had this peculiar after taste I couldn't quite put my finger on. Overall I wasn't at all satisfied with my food and I'd say this meal in particular wasn't worth the $51.00 whatsoever. I want to say I stand firmly on supporting black businesses, but I won't lie about my experience. I'd say i would give this place a second try and at least come back to try the Jollof rice since that seems to be their top seller as it was sold out .

Wow! For $17 I got the vegan combo plate and it came with 2 sides -- I opted for the mesir wat (spicy lentils) and gomen (collard greens). The mesir wat and gomen came beautifully wrapped in an injera, with a salad on the top and two very large rolled up injeras. This combo would be more than enough for two people to share. I ordered right as they opened and my order came fairly quickly (~40 mins), so I was really happy with that as well. The mesir wat was seasoned spectacularly! Just enough heat that pairs with the savory flavor. The gomen also was deliciously garlicky, all coming together so harmoniously with the sourness of the injera. I was worried that ordering it for delivery would affect the experience, but everything came nice and warm and it was so great to have this meal at home. This recent visit was my third time having Ethiopian food, and I went in with an open mind. I remembered the last time I had Ethiopian food, I didn't really enjoy it. You have the option of choosing from their platters, or you can build your own. I created my own platter - I got the lamb dish (#5), the chicken dish (#3), and lentils (#9). These 3 dishes came on injera, which is a sour, fermented flatbread. It is basically a plate for the food, but you also use it to scoop up the meat/lentils to eat. My order also came with several more pieces of injera. The injera "plate" got soggy from the meat and lentils, so it was harder to use it to grab the fillings because it just kept falling apart. The chicken wasn't that great, so I wouldn't order that again, but the lamb dish and the lentils were sooo good. I had enough leftover for a second meal. I'm glad I gave Ethiopian food another chance! Next time, I would probably get the beef, lamb, and lentils.

The green beans and the collards are a solid combination because of the difference in texture and spice. Cabbage, fish and beef were also good. Everything came either on a bed of injeera (soft) or rice, or a combination. On weekdays they have lunch specials which are the best deals and very good and inevitably you'll have leftovers to enjoy later.
