I had Moni Ung cut my hair a while back, so this is a late review. She's nice and attentive. Had my hair washed and cut asymmetrical a-line. I had this done before at another (cheaper) salon and I felt like it's pretty much the same. She's good, but I don't think it's $90 good. :X I think if you had a more difficult hair cut, it would be more worth it, but for a simple one... not so much. read more

Went to Nick today for a blow out. He was prompt and on time, very personable, did a wonderful shampoo/ scalp massage...and I loved how he did my hair. Sean greeted me at the front desk. Very friendly, helpful, offered me tea or coffee (this was around noon), showed me dressing room and handed me a black smock to protect my clothes. Shampoo Dolls is a massive space, very nicely appointed, clean. When I was there in the afternoon, there wasn't any other stylists working, but there were more by the time I left. I'm basing my review on my experience today, which was superb. I had never been to this salon before, and the service I received would make me want to come back. Jesse made my frizzy insane hair look so sleek and fancy! He is the man to go to if you want to have a sleek and feminine haircut. On this day, he performed a miracle on my head. I hadn't had my hair done in so many months and I walked in with the most scraggly looking frizz head ever. Jesse was wonderful with the consultation, really got a feel for what I wanted and said how he would produce it. During my consultation, I mentioned in the most odd description possible that I wanted my hair the color of a black cat's that has been sitting out in the sun. This man accomplished this perfectly!! I have this lovely dark color that has some pops of red hints when I step outside! I went to Los Angeles right after I had my cut and my friends kept asking where I had my hair done and how it had so much movement. I love that you have Jesse's dedicated attention during your appointment. I never feel like I am being rushed through the process on some salon conveyor belt. The salon staff were really pleasant to talk with and super organized. I love the credit card payment system, the fresh water with lemons is delightful. Tip - it may be tricky to locate this salon at first. It is in a 2 story building on the other side of the driveway from Maggianno's. Your best bet is to keep in mind that it is next to the parking garage that faces Winchester Blvd. It is a tan building and you will see steps to walk up to get to the salon. Currently this is a soft opening so expect a bit of construction but the facility is really great. read more

I went to Pualani to get something edgy and fun. I went in with hair that reached my armpits and left with a super cool asymmetrical pixie/bob hybrid. (I uploaded a picture.) I've been going to Moni for over 10 years and have never thought about going to anyone else. She is excellent at color, cuts and styling. Every style I've had has been a little different to keep things fresh and exciting. When it came to my wedding day, it was a no-brainer I wanted Moni to do my hair. My hair is always on point. I actually get stopped a lot to ask where I get my hair done! I love that when I come in, I can show her a couple of pictures of what styles or colors I'm liking OR I can say "do whatever you want". She takes my face shape, hair texture, head shape and quirks like cowlicks into her overall vision for my hair. I always leave feeling and looking great. It feels like magic, but I know it's because she's so talented at what she does. I can tell that Moni and her team are committed to their craft as they consistently attend various educational courses to keep expanding their knowledge. My experience at the salon is consistently awesome. A couple weeks ago, I had a spontaneous idea that I wanted to change my hair. I knew I didn't want to change my hair color completely, but I wanted to do something different. So I thought to myself why not peak a boos? Everyone stopped doing them and are on to the ombre fad. I called a couple places before calling Shampoo Dolls, the guy on the phone was very nice answering all my questions and when I told him I wanted to book my appointment last minute for the same day, he was more then helpful to book an appointment for me with Arnel (apologizing if I spell her name wrong) I came into the salon and was greeted right away, put on my robe and meet Arnel. She's so pretty! I told her what I wanted Peak A Boos in platinum blonde. She explained to me and talked me through the whole process. She told me my hair would not become platinum blonde the first time because my hair has already gone through the coloring process. It would take a couple more times of color stripping to get my hair to the color I wanted it. This was a Saturday afternoon she took probably about 2 hours on my hair, but never once did she rush. She did my peak a boos, and then talked me into a hair cut. I knew my hair was dead, I was just scared that a stylist would chop my semi-long locks off, BUT Arnel didn't. She listened to what I wanted and chopped my hair away, I REALLY LIKED IT. I kept saying kept the length! My hair turned out great I got a lot of compliments, I will be making my second appointment soon, I want my platinum blonde peak a boos already. THANK YOU ARNEL! GREAT JOB. I love how she never once rushed me out of the Salon. OH YEAH, and she introduced me to this amazing hairspray its a little prices, but its so worth it. Awful! No clue why this place has so many good ratings. I was quoted $50 for a blow dry with the owner of the salon & was told the service would take 1 hour. I ended up having to pay DOUBLE the price & spent DOUBLE the time there. Which made me LATE to my makeup appointment which then made me LATE to the wedding I was attending. They said I had to pay $95 for the blow dry because having the owner be my stylist costed more? I was shocked bc the owner's ASSISTANT did my hair. I spent two hours sitting in a chair for the assistant to blow dry my hair!!! The owner simply came by at the end clipped in my extensions poorly & added some hairspray to my hair. When I expressed my dissatisfaction the front desk clerk started becoming extremely defensive & began reaching for my credit card!!! Owners husband was standing right there & simply gave me a BLANK STARE LOL. Not a single person asked me if I liked my hair!!!!! I told them I was not going to come back & I was really unhappy with everything. No one said a word! They just stood there. Overall, rude, hostile & negative environment. I had to come home & re-do my hair. My hair looked like a frizzy mess at the wedding. Will never go back to this place. If you want a good blow dry/style go to DRY BAR IN SANTANA ROW!!! She was very affordable to hire and does such a great job!!! She also did my bridal trial on the day of my bridal shower and everyone loved my makeup. On the big day, most of my bridesmaids and my mom and Chris' mom got their makeup done as well and they all looked HOTTTT! My bridal makeup was perfect and it doesn't get any better than that! Review for VANESSA VALDEZ (first visit): Five stars! Shampoo Dolls came highly recommended to me by a friend who had come here for an asymmetrical bob. I wanted something new, fresh, and shorter, since I was growing out colored highlights and the bleached hair that came with the colored highlights. Vanessa did such an amazing job, and I felt like I was in extremely capable and compassionate hands. She did a thorough consultation with me for the cut that I wanted (straight bangs) and explained with great detail what kind of maintenance was required for maintaining the different styles and cuts. In the end I went with blunt-cut/straight bangs (please excuse any incorrect use of terminology), and she also layered the rest of my hair since I had grown out my layers since my last cut. I walked out with a fabulous new look and fresh, bouncy hair. I got a lot of compliments and wows (probably because it was such a different look!) and just as promised, the cut was low-maintenance and easy to care for. The best part, considering how lazy I am when it comes to hair care - my hair grew out really beautifully even without any of the recommended trims. ------------------------------------ Review for my second visit to Shampoo Dolls: Two stars :( I don't want to malign my second stylist, so I will be leaving their name out of this review. Considering how well my first visit went, I fully expected to walk out happy during my second visit. Because of the heightened expectations, I was extremely disappointed with how my second visit went. I had mixed up the date of my appointment, but luckily, Shampoo Dolls gave me a call to let me know that my stylist was running late and wouldn't be ready for my appointment time. No problem - I asked if it would be possible to schedule it for the next day instead. I was actually happy that there was an opening and pleased that they'd called me to let me know ahead of time. The next day, I received another call from them. Again, my stylist wouldn't be ready for my scheduled appointment time - would it be possible for me to come in 30 minutes later? I had scheduled the time to go with my friends and before a potluck dinner. I begrudgingly agreed to the new time and went in early to wait, since it would have been inconvenient and a waste of time/gas to go home and come back. When I finally got to sit down with my stylist, it was forty minutes past my original scheduled time and ten minutes past the updated time. Apparently there was someone else booked right after me with my stylist; either because of this or for other reasons my stylist was obviously frazzled and in a hurry. I'd originally scheduled a bang trim wanting to go back to the blunt/straight bangs from my first visit, but because of how I was being hurried through my appointment I decided against it and just let my stylist do a trim of my current cut. I really should have just rescheduled - that was my fault. However, considering the stylist's appointment queue and state of mind, I really wish they had insisted that I reschedule due to how impacted my appointment had become. The whole ordeal felt rushed and I felt like my stylist was unfocused and did not even notice how unhappy I was with the outcome and experience. For how expensive the bang trim was, it was a complete waste of my time and money. The only redeeming factor is that it's very easy to schedule appointments - you can do so online through their website. The entire second visit was distressing and disappointing. Plenty of parking, spacious salon, they offer drinks, courteous service. However, I've gone twice this year in a month with Nick. And have spent roughly $450 for Ombré, a $25 treatment, a haircut and a $30 hair product. Went in for an ombré came out with my hair looking nothing like the pictures I showed. Came back to get it fixed and they charge me AGAIN.... And still my hair color looked nothing like the pictures I showed. My haircut was great. Hair color however? No, not for $350. You would think they would want you to leave satisfied....Not at shampoo dolls. The stylist was nice and all. But I don't care to pay $350 for nice service. The words of another hair stylist elsewhere "you paid money for that?" Horrible, horrible experience. If you like plain ass hair, definitely come here. I was referred to Gina Chang by a friend of mine and I am so glad that I ditched my old hair stylist for her!! I really needed a change after having a baby and needed a mommy make over. I told her exactly what I wanted, showed her a couple of pictures and she seemed very confident that I can achieve a similar look. To be perfectly honest, if you want a hair cut/color that is in style, you need to go to someone fresh and young like her who has been taking current classes for hair. Gina knows great techniques and she's really thorough and fast. She even recommended some great products for my dry ends and they have been helping so much. I actually tried to achieve the same look awhile ago with my old stylist and he totally messed up my hair and I pretty much went home crying. Went here for the first time and I was impressed. When you check in at the front desk, they give you a kimono style top to put on. There are dressing rooms in the corner and they have like a closet where you can hang your shirt while you're getting treatment. They offered water, coffee, or tea. Gina Chang was my stylist, and she was great! I wanted to cover some old highlights, and she found a great all over color that complemented my skintone, and also colored over my old, brassy, highlights. When cutting my hair, she was very attentive to what I wanted, and she made sure I was happy with my haircut. Price was great because I had an Amazon local deal. They still gave me awesome treatment even though I used a voucher. All in all, I really liked the feel, vibe, and service of the salon! Gina Chang is the best hairstylist I've ever had! Believe me, I am OCD and picky, and she did a phenomenal job. I brought in a photograph of the haircut I wanted and told her about my usual hair routine. She's the first stylist to give me the EXACT haircut I wanted. That never happens! Usually you just end up with something similiar to what you ask for, but Gina totally nailed it. It's funny because I originally scheduled an appointment with a different stylist, but when I arrived, I was told the other stylist just quit, and was then introduced to Gina. I was definitely nervous at first (again, because of the OCD and getting a haircut from somebody I haven't researched on Yelp/Google), but it worked out perfectly. YAY Dara works her magic again. I came in for a wayyyy overdue appointment (I waited 9 months, you can only imagine the disaster on my head). My highlights and layers were super super grown out. I was 30 minutes early to my appointment because I was scared there was going to be a lot of traffic on 880, and they sat me down early! Right after I put my robe on, Dara started on my mess of hair. I decided I wanted to go ash blonde, and that's exactly what she did. I barely had to describe what cut and color I wanted, she already knew what to do. I don't know if I could ever go to anyone else to do my hair. Kind of on the pricey side, but well worth it. They really take good care of you here, and make you feel relaxed. This review is for Moni and her team who did our hair for my wedding in Calistoga on May 12, 2012. Amazing job!! Moni and her team of four girls really had their work cut out for them because they had to finish 12 women by 1:30 pm and our start time was at 9 am. They were all very professional but also super easy to get along with. The whole getting ready process became fun and not a task. Moni completely captured the look I was going for from the beginning when we had my trial. I was supposed to go through two looks but she nailed it on the first try that I didn't even want to have another option! Not only did she get my look right but she was also able to give all my girls the vintage look I was going for. I didn't want all my girls to have the same style hair so Moni and her team gave each girl their own perfect look! They were all different but cohesive at the same time. Even when we hit a snag and the power went out in our suite because we had four blow dryers running at the same time, Moni and her team didn't let it phase them. They all continued to work until someone came to our room to turn the power back on. We were all ready to go at 1:30 for pictures. I love my hairstylist AJ!! He always knows what to do with my hair and makes it look so easy. I have seen him twice for my extensions and they came out flawless both times. Everywhere I go people ask me who does my hair and I tell go to Shampoo dolls they work with everyone's hair texture. Even though I wouldn't call them an ethnic style salon they definitely have great stylists who can handle all types of hair texture. I love the brand Kerastasse which he used to shampoo my hair felt so soft and much smoother than usual. My last weave lasted 3 months which is great and I'm sure this one will last just as long or even longer. My hair has been practically to my waist since I was five years old, and I was terrified of hating the results of a bob cut, despite my immense curiosity to experience short hair and see if the rumors were true about it being easier to take care of.When it comes to hair, I am a low-maintenance, roll-out-of-bed-and-let-the-wind-make-it-look-good, occasionally-wash-it-after-swimming type of girl. Finally, I decided to commit and get the 12" chopped off. I told myself that--regardless of the results--it would be worth it for charity. Someone out there could really use my hair. So I set up an appt with a stylist at Shampoo Dolls on the recommendation of a housemate. I brought a determined "encouragement" buddy (aka the friend so enthused about the idea of my having short hair that the only reason she would let me leave that salon without a haircut was if I needed to be whisked off to the emergency room...and even that permissibility was questionable) just in case I decided to back out at the last minute. The girl I worked with was named Daisy, and she was INCREDIBLE!! I showed her images of the cuts I was considering, she played around with my hair a bit to feel out the texture, and then she showed me what she thought would look amazing. Her energy and confidence that the cut would look incredible on me (as well as her own awesome hair) completely convinced me that this was a great idea, and made me excited to see what a bob would look like on me. One CHOP later, and gone were the 12" that I had brushed, conditioned, nurtured for years. AHHHHHH!!!! I didn't want to open my eyes, so I didn't until the entire cut was complete. And when I opened them, I was in awe! I could not believe how light my head was, and how professional and chic I looked. The short hair framed my face nicely, thanks to the way Daisy had tapered the cut. And I have discovered that short hair is quite playful, and not as difficult to take care of as I would have imagined. Daisy showed me a few tips, and so I have not had to straighten it every day or use special shampoo to calm the floofyness. I would highly recommend Shampoo Dolls, and especially DAISY for her fabulous work! I've been going here for almost 5 years, and I've never wanted to get my hair done anywhere else. The ambiance of Shampoo Dolls is modern and elegant. Even though their new place on Winchester Blvd. is located in a gigantic building (which is kinda creepy since it's mostly empty on the lobby), the floor with Shampoo Dolls has the characteristic modern furniture fixtures and clean lines. I also like that they now have their own parking in the back of the building, so you don't have to fight for that rare space anymore like you had to with their last location. The service here is always excellent. I'm always helped out immediately, and I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes for an appointment. I've gotten my hair cut with Miriam, and she's just so sweet. She is very kind and asks me lots of questions. But she also realizes that I'm not the most talkative person, so it's nice to have that balance of quiet and friendly conversation with her. I've always enjoyed the cut she gives me. I love Jesse! I am a creative professional, and VERY particular when it comes to art, design, and style. I know creative freedom is how I thrive in what I do, so it is so refreshing to be able to go see Jesse and give him complete creative control. I trust him that much. He always take the time to really listen to what I am thinking, and gives his opinion on what color/cut he thinks would work best for my hair, face shape, skin tone, etc. It's always a very customized experience. And I just love that my hair consistently grows out looking great as well! My husband actually went to go see him first, and was so impressed that he encouraged me to go see him as well. First off this Salon is clean, professional and amazing customer service! Shannon has styled my hair a few times and I love it every single time! She is very attentive and tells you what she's putting in your hair and what it will do.. So this is great for people like me who don't like extra stuff weighing my hair down! I am now on my 2nd stylist from Shampoo Dolls as the first one decided to go back into the corporate world. The transition from one stylist to another was absolutely painless. I was worried at first, thinking the next stylist just won't cut my hair the same way. Boy was I wrong and I'm not afraid to admit it! I now go to see Danielle and she is the B-O-M-B! My favorite part of getting a cut is the scalp massage! ooooohhhhhhh.... I get goose bumps just thinking about it. The new space is definitely more spacious, but it seems blah. The environment sure doesn't fit the characters of the stylists. Maybe they haven't quite figured out how to dress up the place. read more

I've seen Dara for the past year and I am never disappointed with my cuts. When I visit, I like to talk out my styling ideas with her and she always gets my hair on point. My latest visit was a clean up. I am trying to grow my hair out and the layers were getting sloppy. I was in and out of Shampoo Dolls in under 40 minutes. Another perk of seeing Dara is I feel like her cuts always grow out well. This is especially important for me since I live far away. I can't always make the recommended return visits after 8-10 weeks. This location has it's own parking lot which is especially nice if you arrive during peak shopping hours. While I have a love/hate relationship with color, I do want to try out some color with her...one day. Thanks Dara! read more
