First thing first - the energy in this place is awesome! You can tell these women enjoy working together very much! The aesthetic is lively but with a serenity about it that immediately makes you feel like you're among good company. Maybe it's the plants or the simple black and white or gorgeous window scape - whatever it is - you gotta go experience it yourself. Now on to the service ! Pretty salon very centrally located in Campbell. Courtney did an amazing scalp massage during my shampoo and a blowout that was definitely worth coming back for. My haircut with the owner Shannel was unfortunately just ok. I asked for thick ends on my layers and that's not what I got. Sure it happens sometimes, it's a creative process, yadda yadda, not the end of the world. Two more stars deducted for the very slow response/attitude when I requested a fix the next day. After communicating what I didn't want in advance and throughout my haircut (and still tipping well) that was a real bummer and unlike any experience I've had or seen at other high-end salons in NYC, LA and the Bay as a client or employee. Definitely felt awkward to come back and nobody wants to feel that way. It's my hair! But from the business responses to experiences reviewed here on Yelp, maybe I could've predicted that the customer service part of the business is lacking the polish that the salon has in other areas. Today I went to see Dani! She bleached my entire head and we were going for a copper brown. I had permanent black box dye in my hair from about six months ago, and at first the black didn't want to lift--but we were both confident it would, and it did. Dani made me feel so welcomed (she always does), and her coworkers were just as sweet and welcoming. Combs Salon truly feels like a safe space for clients and future clients. They really listen to the look you come in wanting and take amazing care of you throughout the entire process. They understood what I wanted to do with my hair when it came to the booking part. My appointment then comes in. I had Dani do my hair and explained everything I wanted. She went over exactly what she was going to do, so I trusted her. Where do I start? Combs wouldn't be without Shannel, so I will start there. I have been lucky enough to have Shannel as my hair guru for years and ladies she is MAGIC. And when I say she is MAGIC.... I mean she could put Sabrina, the Sanderson sisters, and Bonnie Bennet to shame (IYKYK). An absolute color master, no matter how many crazy things I have asked for over the years. GREAT with layers. If you want layered, fluffy, healthy, hair she is your girl!!!! Now Combs... I could not have dreamed up a cuter & cleaner place to hang out, while also getting my hair done. Shannel and all of the amazing stylists have cultivated the best little salon in the heart of an already amazing downtown. Prepare to walk through the door to warm smiles, tons of fresh plants, refreshments, and great conversations!! Usually when I come in I see Shannel (Cuz, DUH)... but from time to time I have had to sit in others chairs, and I have always had that same great experience. I was just in last Saturday and the salon was PACKED. Every single stylist was working their butts off taking care of everyone in the building, from men to women and children and all types of colors/cuts/styles. It was amazing and I had the best time just being a witness to everyone's hair transformations!! I had hoped to give this salon 5 enthusiastic stars, especially after all the research and time I put into finding a new salon for both me & my husband post-pandemic. We all know it can be tough finding a new salon/stylist! We were so excited to try Combs Salon based on reviews and after calling to book our appointments, but things fell flat and giving 3 stars overall feels pretty generous. First of all, I want to emphasize that our experience with Brooke was excellent (5 stars for her)! She's friendly, gives a nice scalp massage when she washes your hair, and did a good job with my haircut. Why our overall experience was less than stellar? I had booked 2 appointments at the same time for me & my husband, and when we arrived, the stylist who my husband was scheduled to meet with (Shannel) was running late. At first Brooke said it'd be a 20-min wait. Unfortunately, that 20 min turned into over 45 min, and my husband was still waiting patiently right out front. I was shocked when I checked my watch, and asked Brooke to see what the hold up was. She walked over to the stylist who was supposed to cut my husband's hair and after a few minutes, Brooke informed me that she would start my husband's haircut while an assistant would dry my hair. Come to find out that the stylist who my husband was booked with is actually the owner, and she never apologized to him, nor did she even acknowledge his presence as he waited patiently for 45-50 minutes! We understand that things happen, as our line of work requires scheduling clients as well, but the fact that Shannel never even greeted my husband or apologize for making him wait is extremely upsetting and unprofessional. Brooke jumped in and gave my husband his haircut, and I thought maybe they'd offer a little discount or something for the inconvenience, but that didn't happen. We still both tipped 20% since Brooke was great, but still felt pretty disappointed and upset by the whole thing overall (plus late getting back to work that afternoon). To top it off, I had an appt for a blowout the next day as part of their 1-year anniversary celebration, which I almost canceled due to what happened, but I decided to give them another chance (support small biz!). Again, Brooke was great, but the owner ignored me. I actually wanted to congratulate her on her salon's anniversary and even speak to her about the day before once my blowout was done, but she must've stepped out at that moment. As the owner, you'd think she'd personally welcome new/old customers and thank them at her 1-year anniversary event, but I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised based on the day before. Didn't expect to get MANIPULATED and CHEATED OUT OF MY MONEY at a hair salon but here we are... TLDR: hidden $80 fee, no consultation, quote was wrong, horrible job on my hair after 5 hours of sitting in the chair, owner of salon had to "fix" my hair, no consultation with owner either, owner was absolutely set on not refunding the $80 hidden fee because it was "ridiculous" for me to ask to have my hair fixed and for the $80 back (after I paid $550 for the same hair style and color I walked in with), owner sent me home looking the same as I did before I came into the salon. I called in to see if they had time for an "I want it all" walk in, they said they did and promised a full consultation and quote before starting the process. Cece was my stylist, she was very sweet but she immediately took out the bleach when she saw me and didn't go through a consultation or a quote before starting. I had to ask her tens of questions throughout the process about what she was doing to my hair and I kept getting very vague answers. When I asked how much this would cost she said she believes this is all included under the price listed on their website. 5 hours later, I looked in the mirror and saw my exact same hair color only with 3 non-blended streaks of lighter brown in my hair. When they rung me up they added an additional $80 fee for the color which apparently was not included in their price. I was so shocked and disappointed at that point that I just paid the full price and left Cece a $90 tip just so that I could leave asap. When Shannel, the owner of the salon, heard that I was unhappy she had me come in for her to fix it. She admitted it looked bad and immediately went to work on my hair (again, no consultation). When she was done with my hair, it no longer looked bad but it was still very similar to my natural hair which was not at all what I wanted. I asked for the $80 back since I was never quoted an extra $80 and Shannel went on about how ridiculous of an ask that was. She compared it to going to a restaurant, sending back food and asking for a refund. I payed full price + the $80 + $90 tip, totaling around $550 for hair that's almost identical to my natural hair. I was (stupidly) only asking for the $80 back, not the whole $550. We kept arguing about this for like 20 minutes and she ended up scoffing and giving me the $80 back. 5 minutes after I left, Shannel calls me to continue to argue about this for ANOTHER 20 minutes. "Everyone in the salon agreed that this is ridiculous", "I've never heard of someone asking to have their hair fixed and a refund", "you're putting me in an awkward position with Cece", "I had to pay my assistant to come in and help me fix your hair" these were only a few of the manipulations she used on the phone. Somehow Shannel succeeded to make me pay $550 for virtually no change to my hair AND make ME feel guilty for asking her to refund me the $80 I was never told I was going to get charged. Now I'm out of $470 and not a single person noticed a difference in my hair. I truly regret walking into this salon. read more
