Ive been skiing at mt ashland for a long long time and i can comfortably say that its better than shasta and that the unbeatable memories i've made here are to good to not give it a 5 star review. I love this mountain! After growing up skiing in Tahoe and the vicinity, this smaller mountain is a breath of fresh air. Generally not crowded, the vibes are always high. I'm still learning how to snowboard as an adult and I LOVE that you get to cruise down directly from the parking lot instead of having to get off a lift first thing. Also, all the off-ramps from the lifts are gentle! Such a change from the last place I went in CA. Oregon vibes are wonderful as always. Want to give a specific shoutout to Justin - a wonderful ski instructor & Grady the lift operator who is generally on Comer and always stoked. Also shoutout to Carl and that cool lifty gal who has a septum piercing. Y'all make me feel welcomed every time I'm up there! Oh, also the burger and the chicken tenders are FIRE. Pro Tip: buy a punch card with 3 lift tickets at Costco or buy a discounted ticket on Mt Ashland website the day you go. Southern Oregon's only ski/snowboard spot is a decent little spot to play in the snow and learn how to ski/snowboard. The local saying is "if you can learn to ride Mt Ashland, you can ride any mountain". Here's why: This little mountain is steeper than many resorts I've been too. The climate and weather can be a bit tricky at times, resulting in hard, packed snow and considerably less powder than many other resorts. I'm not sure but I don't think they have any snow maker/snow blowers here AT ALL. The main runs are groomed but unless there's fresh powder be prepared for more ice-like trails. Over the years, they've really improved their terrain parks with rails, hips, and other jumps. The lodge was recently added on to as well. The staff are always friendly and helpful which earns an extra star. Aside from weather/location conditions it's a convenient place to enjoy the day in the snow. It is worth noting that the only other option is to drive an extra hour south to Mt Shasta, where there are snow blowers, much more consistent powder and less steep terrain. But for a quick day trip Mt Ashland does the job. read more

The views from this place are amazing! You can see Mts. Shasta and McLoughlan!! There is WiFi in the lodge. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Ski lessons are available and super reasonably priced! I really thought I would just try skiing once this year but I ended up loving it. I rented the equipment the first time. The rental skis and boots were very well maintained. The first time I ordered the wrong size but it was quickly remedied. I ended the season having gone several (6) more times and the rentals were always wonderful. It's as if the staff lives to talk about skiing and hear about your runs. They are genuinely excited to have guests and want you to feel appreciated. The locals are a great bunch of folks who love their mountain; and now I am one of them. There are 4 lifts, several blue squares, black diamonds and ONE green run. Their motto is "It's steeper here." They say if you learn to ski here that you can ski anywhere! Well, lucky me!!!!! The ski patrol are super cool and professional. The lift operators are a hoot (Carl-I'm talking about you, Primo!) and the lodge staff are very helpful (Bouie got me in the dance contest!) Dr. Snowe recommends skiing for a healthy body and mind! (Special thanks to that guy!) And a fun time was had by all‼ read more

This is a very sweet, local mountain. The runs are uncrowded, the snow was good. The line for the cafe was a little long at lunch, but if you timed it right, it was fine. They also had great Vegan options. My issue was with the manager on duty. I had purchased a ticket with Ashland Hotel and Suites, which I had forgotten at the hotel. Admittedly, forgetting the ticket was my fault, so I bought another one at the resort in hopes the hotel would credit back the unused ticket. On a whim, I decided to ask the resort manager if there was anything she could do. She immediately said, no problem! Take a picture of the ticket when I get back to the hotel, email it to her, and she would credit me. I was so thrilled with the customer service and the fact that I didn't have to pay double for the day on the mountain. When I got to the hotel, I took a picture, emailed her thanking her profusely and...never heard back. I emailed again, and again, and again. Nothing. I finally gave up, disappointed, not only in the false promise, but in the fact that I could have gotten the refund through the hotel had she just been honest with me. I wouldn't say to avoid this resort in any way - it was lovely in the way small local mountains are. But I wish the experience had turned out differently. read more

Ashland wasn't such a snarky little turd and didn't reply to every negative review with stupid little tidbits that don't help at this point I would be a little more sympathetic towards Mt. Ashland. I didn't have a "fun time" this season because I wasn't going to to go risk my equipment by taking it down the 4 open unsafe runs riddled with rocks and sticks that they ONLY opened up so they didn't have to say that the mountain didn't open at all for the 2017-2018 season. Do I get to use my season pass next year Michael? Huh?? Do I? Yeah, didn't think so. UPDATE: How unprofessional does Michael have to be here? Engaging in a yelp feud with a customer just to prove he's a big powerful man. It's really pathetic honestly. Give it up Michael, cause I never will. read more

Joined yelp to write this review. Took our 3 kids (ages 12, 9 and 8) to Mt A for their FIRST time ever putting on skiis, and after a private lesson with Matt, all 3 of them could deal with their gear, get on and off the lift safely, and SKI IN CONTROL of themselves!!!! I didn't expect to actually get to ski with them on this trip, but after this foundation of excellent training, they were off and running! We can't say enough nice things about the Mt A staff, especially Matt and Michael S! Thanks for the fantastic memories! read more

Least family-friendly mountain on earth. Do not come here unless you are a local! They only treat locals and/or Oregonians good here, it's a mountain hostile to women and children from any another place. If you want your child falling off a lift, with the liftee chatting away ignoring you, come here. Myself (and friends from out of state) had this experience in 19/20 season on both the Comer and Ariel lifts. My daughter lost a ski trying to hang on for dear life by herself while she was screamed at by the liftee that "Ariel was for experts only!!" (She was an expert, she off loaded with one ski on because she can one-ski and do all blacks on any mountain, but the liftee just had to scream at a 9-year old after she asked for the lift to be slowed down and he ignored her as he was chatting with his buddy. Thankfully this time there was a dozen witnesses to the event and they all helped report the shockingly inexcusable scene, and my husband happened to be right there on the bottom of Ariel as a ski patroler with the multiple ski patrol employees that also saw it - so the atrocious Mt A liftee was fired on the spot. Now, in the 20/21 season I was told "go back to Tahoe you cunt" by an employee on the bunny hill with my two daughters while they were learning to snowboard. Yes. That vulgar word. In Ashland, OR in the year 2021. Immediately after I said "what did you call me?" he said "what, what, I didn't say anything I didn't even talk" with a big fat smile on his face as he knew there were no witnesses. He tried to shield his badge so I wouldn't get his name. Below I include the report that my husband put up after I called him from the bunny hill distraught. To be clear the immediately proceeding comment that prompted the Mt A director to say "go back to Tahoe you cunt" was me saying to him after he degradingly told me to get my bag off the ground and get out of here (at 340 pm) "you are so mean, this is why we ski at Mt Bachelor and Tahoe now, they actually treat people nice there" ... note he didn't say "go back to Mt Bachelor and Tahoe you cunt" ... just Tahoe. No Mt A employee has responded to our family yet though I reported him right away. This IS how they treat paying customers if you are not from here. They don't care because they got your money and they'll never see you again. That's honestly the attitude. Reported 2/22/21: "It was a horrible day at Mt Ashland for my wife. I just want to let everyone know how poorly Mt. Ashland Ski Area and its employees treat guests and in particular women. Alex Neville, the Snowsports manager, just called my wife a cunt, at the mountain. That's right, an employee said to my wife, who was trying to have a fun day with our two daughters, to "go back to Tahoe you cunt." Unbelievable. If Mt Ashland has any honor, they will fire Alex Neville immediately. read more

It doesn't have to be all OSF when you're in Ashland. There's Mt. Ashland, the "little" Ski Area that could. It's just North of town and half a world away. It's easy to park, folks are friendly, the skiing and views are an enjoyable 1150 vertical feet, and you won't pay Tahoe prices. And during the off season, you can also hike, send your Kid to a youth service camp, and even get married. read more

First and foremost, the guy who does the lift for the smallest slope is amazing, give him a raise. The business is set upon the mountain and has a very sweet ambiance. I came on a slightly less crowded day so our wait times were quick and timely. I enjoyed the staff, all except for one. I appreciate the fact that there is military discounts, so thank you there. I will start by, again, praising the guy who was at the bottom of the lift on 01/02/19, he was so happy and dancing and completely awesome. However, when I was in the food court , myself and four others, we all ordered food separately and had the same experience with the dark hair, bearded man who took our order. He seemed as though he did not want to be taking anyone's orders and replied with bad attitude or snarky remark when ordering, hence the entire reason for my 3 stars. Example being, for two of my friends, he did not want to split the bill;for myself, when ordering a soda I asked "can I just get a dr. Pepper?" He responded ," well you can BUY one." ... well obviously? ;And to my other friend who ordered the vegan burger he responded by asking if they wanted bacon on it too. I mean, take these scenarios as you will, but as for myself, these things would be completely excusable if they were said jokingly or light heartedly but that certainly was not the case. To finish the review with a more positive note, I really do appreciate the vegan burger and other veg options on the menu showing how one caters to all patrons. read more

Forget Tahoe. This is the place. As a Bay Area native, I'd developed Stockholm Syndrome with regard to skiing. Crowded, overpriced resorts. Pushy clientele. Disinterested employees. So, I didn't ski that often, and the fact is I'm just not that good. But I enjoy it, and that's the point. Enter Mount Ashland. Mount Ashland, with its 1/2-hour-drive from Ashland, free, uncrowded parking just a few yards from the rental area. With its cubbies for your shoes because no one would think to steal your things. Where the employees were kind enough to loan my husband a pair of pants (he'd hoped to buy a pair there but it's not that kind of place). Where, when we went to the lodge for a break, there were places to sit, the food arrived swiftly and was reasonably priced. For afternoon rental and passes for the two of us, the total was under $100. I'm a beginning-intermediate skier and, though the slopes are renowned for their steepness, I didn't find the intermediate slopes to be beyond my abilities. At the end of the day, we had two hot chocolates... $3 total. Thank you, Mount Ashland! I may never go back to Tahoe. read more

This mountain is absolutely ridiculous! I should've known something was off when I got to the parking lot and didn't have to fight off 1,000 people just to get a parking spot. I didn't think much of it at the time so I cruised into the lodge to purchase my pass. I was shocked upon entering the lodge to see only TWO people behind the ticket desk! What happened to the rows of ticket sales you find at big mountains?! Furthermore, the tickets were reasonably priced! Having spent my entire life riding only Vail resorts, I've learned that tickets should at least cost half of my week's wages and if you aren't reverse mortgaging your house to afford a season pass, you're doing it wrong! At Mt. Ashland they actually have the audacity to try to sell you affordable season passes and tickets. Next, I headed out onto the slope. The resort wasn't jam-packed and I didn't have to throw elbows just to get enough room to make a turn which left me feeling really uncomfortable. The only real way to enjoy skiing or snowboarding is to do it with 10,000 of your best friends! After only about 30 seconds of skiing, I arrived at the first lift, I think it was called Whiner or something like that. There I wasn't greeted by the hour-long lift line that should be at every lift, but rather a two-minute lift line! Where are you supposed to hit your JUUl and drink a brew in between runs?! Not having to wait at least 45 minutes to get on a lift left me feeling like I was skiing in a ghost town, not a ski resort. After a few top to bottom runs, I headed into the lodge to get lunch. I was shocked to find good food, for reasonable prices! Anyone who knows anything about skiing and ski resorts knows that if you aren't paying at least $50 per person per meal for lodge food, your resort must suck. I was also able to find a place to sit down, without having to drop kick a whole family of toddlers just to get some elbow space. All in all this mountain has a weird vibe... The employees actually seem to care about skiing or snowboarding. The management seems to care too much about keeping prices affordable and keeping the community tight-knit. Who's even heard of a community-owned mountain before?! How can you have a ski resort without someone stuffing their pockets with the profits?! People kept acknowledging me and saying hi, which made me feel very uncomfortable. And everyone looked like they were having fun... it was too weird. I will not ever be returning to this mountain, rather I would prefer to fly to Colorado once a year and literally lop off an arm and a leg to ski with 10,000 other people at a Vail resort. If you're into steep terrain, fun, and good attitudes this mountain might be for you. But if you're like me and prefer screaming children, frowns, and wasting money you should probably save your time and head to a Vail resort. read more

Not real helpful. I live in Eugene and wanted to use my Mt Ashland season pass to get a discount at Hoodoo Ski. Mt A staff said I had to drive 8 hours and get my pass on their mountain first. They were not willing to send me an email to show Hoodoo and had no other solutions. Not helpful at all!!! read more

The ski resort is normally beautiful, and extremely convenient for folks living in Ashland. We were visiting our friends for the weekend of feb. 4th, and were surprised that they charged $42 for a half-day lift ticket when only a few runs were actually open, and even those that were open had massive amounts of debris visible. I'm talking boulders, logs, and large swaths of dirt that were exposed. I witnessed several people falling because of this debris, and some of it looked pretty dangerous. I watched some adolescents going down runs above their skill set, except when they fell this time, they in danger of crashing onto boulders and sharp tree debris. We had a great time because we were with friends, but four hours of shitty skiing is not worth $42. Especially when only one blue run and two black runs were in decent enough shape to actually ski down without hitting a rock or a tree limb every 5 feet. My boyfriend gouged the bottom of his skis so badly, we are going to have to go get them repaired. I know that the owners of the mountain can't control the weather, and I know that climate change is probably squeezing their business, and that their insurance rates are extremely high, but price gouging their customers because of these factors is not acceptable. They need to reevaluate their business model if they want community support in these trying times for the economy and ski resorts. read more

The Mountain is fantastic...and I mean the actual mountain....not the resort or the inept management. The terrain is fun, plenty steep, but not challenging if you've lived in the Rockies. Just a fun little spot to ski. If you were to ignore the recent history of the Mt. Ashland association attempting to ram an un-wanted expansion down the throat of a heavily resistant local population, despite the lack of financial solvency....And ignore that they then spent the community's season pass fees on a tiny parking lot expansion on a year they didn't even open.......then, yes, this a great little mountain. This season, I showed up to ski on the biggest snow day of the season...sounds great right? well let me list the things I experienced. 1. A line 1 hour long to get a rental snowboard for my daughter 2. Only 1 person selling tickets...1!!!!!!...and only inside the lodge...what a pain! 3. Nothing to purchase for lunch at the cafeteria except tater tots...literally...that's the only thing they had for sale...The guy told me "We thought this was going to be a slow day" ..what?? a foot of new and the schools were closed...and they didn't have a single burger to buy...I could go on about the flow problems of the cafeteria, which are numerous, but i'll leave that to someone else. I love mt.Ashland...too bad it's "run" by un-qualified pot-heads. read more

okay... so, it was My first time snowboarding and my husband's second. First of all... let me just say my husband is an ace on the slopes... for real! he was executing jumps and shredding like a maniac... i, on the other hand am still waiting for my sponser offers for my boarding career. Anywho... we had a BLAST! Great staff... we ended up getting a 2 hour private lesson for group lesson prices cause we went on a monday first thing in the AM. Nikki was a FABULOUS instructor and was super fun and encouraging. the on site bar was fine.... great view of the slopes, but it took FOREVER to get our food. wah. so... for me being a beginner and my husband being fabulous... and not to mention the fact that we had like 2 feet of fresh snow on the ground. it truly was a PERFECT experience. we cannot wait to go again! read more

I did not ski, or even go to the peak of Mt. Ashland. Instead, I gallivanted through the snowy terrain, ill equipped for such a trek, but enjoying every moment of it. The hiking trails look extraordinary on the mountain. I love pine forests, and am sure that during the summer it is a gorgeous spectacle of green earth and blue skies. In the winter, it's sinking each step into powdery snow, watching icicles dangle from stone crevices, preserving baby ferns and bits of moss, snow ball fights, and amateur ice sculptures -- oh, and with the right equipment (snow shoes), actually hiking around the mountain. read more

Grew up skiing here and an absolute fan of the mountain. It is just large enough that you feel like you can get your moneys worth and not having to wait in long lines. Even though it is small compared to most other ski resorts, it gives you that family atmosphere and the views are absolutely gorgeous. Having been to a few other larger ski resorts with it not feeling the same as Mt. Ashland. My grandmother loves to come up with myself and my mom and knit by one of the windows along with sitting near the fire place every so often and watch everyone have fun throughout the day. Never has there been a bad experience with the staff members on the Mountain. You will always get those few reckless snowboarders/skiers on any mountain. read more

Mt. Ashland is a family-friendly ski area (not resort) that offers a wide variety of terrain. There is a nice bunny slope near the lodge and the bowl will challenge experts. The views are beautiful -- Mt. Shasta to the south, Mt. McLoughlin to the northeast. There are many groomers and just as many glades and ungroomed. Staff are friendly and helpful and the bar is hopping. Check it out -- there's nowhere else in the area that boasts so much for such a reasonable ticket price. read more
