The river going through the rest stop is my favorite rest stop ever . You could fish at that rest stop . Beautiful grounds . A must Stop

I'm here at the end of July and the grass is so green

This rest stop is so huge that there's a north and south end. I visited at the end of July and the grass is so green because a river runs nearby. There's a visitors center on the north end that wasn't open the two times I visited. Someday. I saw two electric vehicle pumps, so if you have to wait to charge your car, pull out a blanket and nap under a tree because the shade is very cool. They keep the dog side on the other side of the parking lot and dogs have to stay on a leash. It sucks for us dog lovers, but I get it.

Randolph Collier is easily one of the most beautiful rest stops that I've ever been to. Not only is it exceptionally clean and super spacious, it also has a visitor's center and the beautiful presence of the Klamath River which runs right behind it. If you need to get out and stretch your legs, there are walking trails that run parallel to the river. The rest stop is delightfully green and filled with beautiful trees, rest benches, and picnic tables. There are also restrooms here (not sure if they'd be open right now due to COVID-19), and they keep them sparkling clean. I didn't get a chance to go inside of the visitor's center because they were closed during my visit. There's ample parking and a designated pet area where you can bring your furry friends to run around and play. There's a small section behind the visitor's center where you can sit and watch the river flow. Here, you'll also find some neat informational placards about the history of the river and what kinds of fish that it contains. This is one of those rest stops where I actually wanted to stay longer to explore. If you're making the drive from California to Oregon (or vice versa), this is an excellent place t stop along your journey to recharge and explore.

Cute place. Pretty big. Plenty of truck parking. Though 3 stars because the bathrooms were horrid... blood on the floor and I flushed toilets. Come on people!!!! Only proper to clean up after yourself. I call this the mini Central Park. Per area as well. Two sides so double the toilets !

    Plenty of restrooms

This is one of the nicest rest stops between Oregon and California. It is right along the Klamath River and there is a lot of parking and areas to walk around. It is always clean and well taken care of. It is an easy on and off of the freeway.

I fondly recall my first time at the Randolph E. Collier.

. Two words: Sights & Delights. 1 word: SEXY. Three Words: Randolph E. Collier Sentence: Thank you God for this beautiful masterpiece of a Rest Oasis, it's all too clear that "rest area" would be far too derogatory of a description given the spectrum of natural and meticulously maintained beauty and delight surrounding this phenomenal little patch of heaven nestled deep in the heart of paradise that is located perpendicular to the Klamath river. The selection is vast and well curated, take your pick between tinkling on the north end where you're close to the information station or frolicking from the loo on the south end where gleaming views of the Klamath river boast from every angle. PLEASE DO NOT FEED OR HANDLE THE CATS.

This lovely rest stop is a fitting tribute to its namesake, Randolph Collier, who is now known as "The Father of Freeways" for his efforts in1948 to modernize roads. This is the best rest stop on Highway 5 and perhaps the prettiest on any CA state highway. On my annual trip to Ashland, I often stop at this rest stop just because it is so, dare I say, restful. It's possible to walk to the edge of the area and watch the Klamath River rush by. The highway that runs on the other side of the river is a portion of the VERY old, prior to 1923, portion of Highway 99 that still snakes it way to Yreka The California Welcome Center gives free maps and booklets on California. There are tables, a pet area, and clean bathroom. With plenty of parking for cars, RVs and big rigs it does not seem to be crowed at all I would never-ever stop at any rest stop at night, and this one is no exception. It is a long, lonely stretch of highway from Yreka to Ashland and with no place to stop. So, I plan my liquid intake accordingly. I am surprised that other reviewers didn't, and they seem to be from the general area.

This is an impressive rest stop, besides being extremely clean and having nicely maintained grounds it's in a really nice setting. Located along the Klamath River with plenty of trees for shade and picnic tables available over looking the river. All looks very inviting for some too inviting to resist (see photos)

Another gorgeous rest stop on our 8000 mile journey through this beautiful land called the US of A. This one is right by the Klamath River and features stories and factoids about Life On The River in early times by the Shasta People. Well maintained and lovingly cared for, the lawns are immaculate as well as plants and trees around them. Lots of blackberries by the river and an abundance of dragonflies and bees which are good news for California farmers!

I love this beautiful stop for a moment of zen, but today 08/06/25 it was closed. I hope that is just today.

The best rest area along the I-5. It's a must. They have large green areas along the Klamath river.

Ask the Community - Randolph Collier Rest Area

What is the name of the tree at the Randolph Collier Rest Area that has long pods and fern-like leaves?

I wonder if it could be a Mimosa tree. Some people call them a silk tree. They get pretty pink fluffy flowers, leaves are feathery fern-like shaped and pods with seeds inside that you could plant. The lady inside the information center would know… Read more
