Callahan's is a gem. We can only speak to the rooms as we've usually arrived late at night and all seasons. Staff if friendly, accommodating and makes things easy. We are in a slight back and forth of cats are allowed or not. 5-6 visits over the last year, no problems. We always ask. The wife is as told otherwise this last week. I'm talking with staff to figure that out. I'd hate to lose an option on our commute path. read more

Stayed 2 nights and ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. For the restaurant, the breakfast was a solid, above average hotel complimentary continental spread with eggs, waffles, and even homemade carrot bread and egg/veg casserole. The dinner was really better than expected but not fine dining. We had several different cuts of steak (sirloin was our winner) , which were nice, a child's grilled cheese, and a delicious Cesar salad complimented with a local Rogue Valley bottle of wine. Fast, friendly service but relaxed and happy to let us take our time. For the hotel, the room has a fireplace with logs provided, so smelled strongly like a camp fire - pro or con depending on one's point of view. The in-room jacuzzi style bath was particularly fun and a highlight! The room is well-worn but in a way that feels almost in theme to the rustic mountain lodge. So glad we have it another try. This Lodge is located in such a special place that we decided to try it again after our not so good stay last time. Boy were we impressed!! The front desk guy was friendly and efficient. We opened the door to our upstairs room and were so excited the floors were new and the horrible carpet was replaced with clean beautiful laminate floor. The bathroom was sparkly clean. Dinner was also redeeming. We had a lovely waiter and the steak was cooked perfectly. Get a Great meal with a mountain top experience This beautiful lodge, bar and restaurant are near the highest pass on I-5 near the Siskiyou mountain summit. Just a short drive to Mount Ashland ski area and only about 10 miles South of Ashland Oregon. The food is very good I had the beef Stroganoff and my wife had Lasagna. It came with warm homemade bread and a salad. They also have live music in the evenings on the weekends. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was great They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner If traveling on I-5 near the California, Oregon border you really should stop. read more

I booked a night on my way to Oregon. I made it and checked in by 7:45, but the restaurant closes at 8. They still took my order and delivered it to my room. Room was comfy but noisy. I was next to the elevator and heard everyone walking above me. It was not a big deal as I always travel with earplugs. They have free continental breakfast in the morning. If something isn't working, definitely ask, they are very helpful and very kind. Overall minus the noise, I had a great stay and would stop there again. read more

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here. It's not a fancy or high-end lodge--it's cozy and a bit worn--but knowing that going in and adjusting my expectations, I ended up loving it. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming--definitely the highlight for me. The onsite restaurant was super convenient (I believe it closes around 8 PM), which was great since there aren't many other food options nearby. I even had my dog with me, and they were totally fine with him joining me for dinner--very pet friendly! They offer free live music on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, which is such a fun bonus. There's also a cute little game room on the first floor with a pool table and board games, plus a great selection of DVDs you can borrow for free to watch in your room. One heads-up: the patio outside our room was shared with the neighboring unit, which I wasn't expecting. Other than that, the room was cozy, and the tub was definitely a standout feature. The hotel itself is very nice. The restaurant and bar are warm. The food is pretty good. I liked the room and think it is overall a relaxing place to stay. The only downside were a few of the employees. There was an edge to two of the women that work the front desk. Awkward. The staff was 'small town.' That is what I like. However there was a bit of some drama going on between people working there that was palpable. The experience seems a bit unorganized and hapless. But we always worked it out. If a person is looking for perfection, this is not the place. It's an imperfect gem with a couple of sharp corners. They have free laundry. The dryer does not work well. The AC in the room did not work. The beds are hard on a bad back. We were involved with the PCT. It was nice to have a shower for them. They don't charge to pick up your supply box. Clean towels were supplied for them. And there is a mini store for needed items. read more

The lodge has a lot of character. Check in is at 4 pm so when we got there 15 minutes early we had to wait, which was fine. There are a lot of places to walk our dog but bring your doggy bags because I couldn't find any. The room was really nice. It has a fireplace and jet tub with a balcony overlooking the back yard. The bed was really comfortable. We met our kids for a birthday dinner in the dining room. The server was attentive and checked on us several times even though the dining room filled up and she was the only server on the floor. I'd give the meal a 7 out of 10. There just wasn't much flavor to my scampi. The noodles were buttered but had no herbs in them. My suggestion would be to go. a little extra with plating and flavor. My husband's steak was flavorless as well. All in all it was a terrific stay and we will be back. read more

We went to the bar at 5. All the service from the bar tender to the clerk and the waiter, even the hostess were superb. She took photos of us and was delightful. Super personable, warm and engaging. Quick service. Amazing food!! I had the lemon chicken piccata and my husband had the prime rib. Recommend both. The grilled vegetables couldn't have been cooked to more perfection in texture, variety and flavor. Food, service and warmth makes this worth the trip up the mountain. Overnite accommodations were cozy and warm. Rooms are simple, clean, dated but comfortable. Fridge, microwave and coffee in the room are convenient. They even had a game room in case you can't get out due to poor weather! Sheets were tired. Couldn't tell if it was a weak thin flannel or pilled regular sheet but the beds and pillows were comfortable. We will return for our special celebrations. Morning breakfast (included with stay) was respectable and with the view, made for great partnering. Thanks for making our evening, a forever memory, a special one. read more

A very comfortable stay with helpful, friendly staff, nice extras, and a good price. I like these little decorative accents in the room (see pics). The continental breakfast had a good selection of cold items, plus a waffle maker and reheatable frittatas that were tasty. They have free DVDs to play in your room and a laundry facility. The price was right for us and we even received a complimentary upgrade. Bed was comfortable, room was spacious, there's a jetted tub in the room, fireplace, microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. We happen to see callahan's sign on the freeway it was right off of I-5. Great price for a Wednesday, cute room with lodge type décor with jacuzzi tub, fireplace (with wood), king bed, nice flooring (no carpet) and a shared patio which looked out on to nice lawns. Stopped here on our road trip and were pleasantly surprised! Our server was very attentive and kind, answered all of our questions with ease. We ordered the cod and it was very fresh and perfectly seasoned. Their bruschetta was deliciously refreshing. Loved the fireplace going and the cozy cabin esthetic of the restaurant. read more

We stayed on a Friday night, arriving at 10:00pm. The restaurant and bar were closed and the only food available was in the "gift shop". Only one bottle of wine, on the bottom shelf of the fridge, and it was $40.00. Potato chips were 2 bucks. Yes, there was a major snow storm last week, but the roads have been open for days. They could have stocked the fridge. They placed a hold on my card for twice the room rate. I wasn't told about this, but it was in the fine print of something I signed on check-in (I was never given a hard copy). Today, Monday, my account was debited for the amount owed, and it has cleared, but the hold is still on the balance. Callahans says they released it and it's the bank that is holding it. My bank says that Callahans has not released it; it is still listed as pending. Callahans has up to 5 business days to release it, at their discretion. Very frustrating, and enough to make us never go there again. And, as others have noted, the carpet is filthy. Also, the "Jacuzzi" rooms have a bath tub with air jets. Not the same thing. The hotel is really nothing special. Plus, it's about 150 yards from the downhill grade of the I-5 into Ashland, and you can hear the jake brakes of the semi trucks all night. read more

Horrible food, drinks and service. They allow huge shedding dogs in what we thought was fine dinning. Building was cold and they said there was no wood for fireplaces. We payed extra $$$ for suite ...No hot water for jetted tub , charged for firewood after paying for room with fireplace. Understaffed and unskilled workers. A unleashed huge dog ran in our room as we opened the door to exit and check out. Loud dogs barking ALL NIGHT! so sad that this used to be our favorite place for 30- years. All celebrations, birthdays, weddings , new years etc. If you're looking for a dog kennel that's way overpriced this is your place. By the way one of those dogs pooped in the entrance, the dinning room and on our shared expensive suite patios. Trust me!!!!! Don't book or even make dinner reservations without checking out first. Callahan's is going back to it's roots. They've already brought back Nilde's recipes for the meat sauce and are working on bringing back the veal scalopinni. The prime rib in the stroganoff was melt in your mouth tender with caramelized onions and mushrooms covered in a delicious creamy sauce. Highly recommend the citrus grove sangria. We had an amazing night meeting Mark, the owner and catching up with Brian Callahan himself. Our waiter Mike took fantastic care of us and we enjoyed the live music with John I've. Underwhelming and under staffed. We ate dinner in the restaurant Saturday night. We tried to order three different items and were told they were out. The food we did receive was fine, but slow to come and not amazing. Our waitress was awesome! She was on the ball, but way too busy serving every person in the restaurant. The waitress and the host were practically jogging trying to take care of everyone. Apparently, the fridge broke recently and they gad to throw away all of their food. Also, both cooks called in sick. Either way, I don't think we'll be going back or recommending Callahan's to friends. Additionally, the room was nice but the continental breakfast was right on par with last night's dinner. Pathetic. read more

What a beautiful place this is. The smell of a fire hits you the minute you walk in. Log cabin old time style.... I LOVED my room, and I mean LOVED..... The lady friend and I drove over 5hrs from home so I can start this adventure.. It's memorial Day weekend (Saturday), and I plan to hit the PCT on memorial Day(Monday) If you're a PCT hiker, you know how hard it is to get a permit so I started just outside of California, where you don't need one. What more can a couple ask for!?!?? A Big Comfortable Bed,a jetted tub for 2, balcony with an amazing mountain view and a real wood burning fireplace in our room...talk about ROMANTIC..... I won't get into that..... but this review is based (mainly) on the room alone. The bar / restaurant was on point. Bottomless spaghetti w/ meat sauce for PCT hikers. And the free breakfast was a good selection, even for a meat only eater. Beer, shots and even some wine went down easy. And the free breakfast the next morning had a good selection for a meat only eater. Coupled with a great Bloody Mary, it cured the hangover. I will forever stay here if I'm in the area. I was happy with the staff the breakfast and price. The jacuzzi tub was wonderful it was hot as can be! ! There were a few negative things I can comment on. 1. The carpets were gross however this being a pet friendly establishment, I get it. 2. I wasn't so sure the shower had been cleaned thoroughly . Also the water pressure in the shower wasn't great. 3. The pillows were way to small 4. Please retire the disgusting chairs!!! The brown chairs are so gross and old. Toss em! Potential. This place has so much potential but needs a huge makeover. From the horrible, dead animal, heads and skins and the lobby to the putrid smell walking from the lobby to our room. This place needs some serious help. It's obvious this place was really nice and it's hey day and owners just let it run down. There were a couple of nice amenities in our room, but otherwise this place was horrible. We left about five minutes after looking at the room. The front desk woman offered another room, but we couldn't take it. There are also no vegan options at dining time. Yuck. We ended up at a nice comfort Inn up the road. Very inexpensive and saved us money. If this place doesn't change its ways, the health department will close it down. read more

So glad we found this, favorite place I've stayed along the 5, Troy at the front desk is amazing!

We booked a room via the phone number online. We didn't receive a confirmation, we suspected that they made an error entering the email address. Which was the case. Showed up and we were directed to go downstairs to our room. The carpet was black from foot traffic, this concerned me. The room was cold so we turned on the heat which is right next to the bed and would turn off and on every 20 minutes or so. Went upstairs to the dining room. They told us they would get the fireplace going.... based on a post a day ago, they didn't have any firewood to start a fire. The hearth was covered in ashes. They never did start the fire. We ordered the 14 oz ribeye and split it between the two of us. Ordered the garlic cheese curds and a side salad. The cheese curds were hot and tasty. The salad was not so appealing. There were some mixed greens, a partially cut up tomato, and a couple of teaspoons of shredded carrots, minus the cucumbers as lites on the menu. Salad dressing was not appealing, I asked for blue cheese, I'm not sure what I actually received. The main course arrives, two plates with mashed potatoes and some uncooked broccoli on one plate and the same on the other plate plus the steak. The steak was cooked unevenly, almost charred on one side and then really rare in the center portion of the steak (we asked for medium rare). The meal wasn't very warm. I don't believe butter would have melted on the steak, mashed potatoes, or raw broccoli. This place could be so much better. It should be a destination not just a mediocre meal surrounded by a big motel. Why not have a wine list, not boxed wine? Why not deliver food hot and cooked to perfection? It seems like no one has been trained or knowledgeable about what should be expected... We won't be coming back. It not worth the trip. Check out the other posts , recent posts. Not many like what they have seen or eaten. Having dogs in the dining room seems inappropriate, I don't allow my dogs in the dining room because they should be laying down in the other room while the owner eats their meals, not sitting at their feet begging for food. The owners should be held accountable for dogs barking and misbehavior. It can't be chaos when you're trying to relax and let someone else make your meal for a change. I hope that the owners can turn this thing around. I don't mean any disrespect, I just feel like you're not doing your best. That's what I would expect of my self if I was the owner. read more

Best kept secret along the 5 between Sacramento and Portland! Really great rooms, wonderful location, wonderful staff. Good eats and bar too. What I enjoy personally too is the DVD library and that each room has a DVD player. Probably can watch a movie you wouldn't find on the streaming services. Fantastic location in the pines just outside of town. Dog friendly and a quaint log cabin feel. We loved it! Jacuzzi tub was one of the best I've ever seen! So good! Powerful jets, enough hot water and deep seating contours that were just right. Clean quiet spacious room, (although if I were them I'd use an eco cleaner with a lot less of a chemical smell). Nice continental breakfast offerings and a beautiful setting. We were very comfortable, for the most part. I must add: as a conservationist and wildlife advocate, I was really disappointed to see the taxidermy. Really SAD to see two once beautiful bears turned into "rugs" and draped over the doorway, along with deer heads too. Bloodsport is just ugly and cruel. Why value one species of animal, (dogs) and then disrespect, slaughter and stuff the other animals? It makes NO sense. It's 2023, people, can we just please get RID of trophy hunting and taxidermy? My wife, mother-in-law, and I went for Sunday Brunch. We made reservations thinking maybe it would be busy after the July 4th holiday. There was only one other table there, not a good sign (we overheard them dealing with service issues like no silverware, long delay to take their payment, etc.). Their brunch menu is as basic as it gets. We showed up at our time of reservation, no one was there to greet or seat us, who knows how long we would've been standing there. My mother-in-law went to the bar to see if they'd seat us after about 5 minutes. After we sat down, it took another 5 minutes until we received the menu. We ordered two coffees and an iced tea. The iced tea came out quickly, then we noticed the waiter going over to the Continental breakfast buffet line and poured the coffee from a carafe there. Should've just said to help ourselves, it would've been faster. My mother-in-law wanted basic unflavored cream for her coffee, they only had the flavored ones. One employee went to the kitchen and brought out half gallon carton of heavy whipping cream for her to add to her coffee. When the employee was putting the cap on the half gallon of whipping cream, the cap fell onto the floor. He then proceeded to pick it up and put the cap right back on in front of us. He should've gone back to the kitchen and cleaned the cap before putting it back on. Basic common sense sanitation. The coffee was warm, not hot, but not yet cold. We only had one spoon as well, which we had to share amongst the three of us. As for food, I had the biscuits and gravy. The flavor was average, but the biscuits were not fully baked, the center was still a bit raw. Gravy tasted like it was from a packet and they added chopped up sausage to it. Eggs were ok. The home fries that came with it were the best part of my meal. My wife wanted the soup of the day... They didn't have any soup. She then ordered a Caesar salad plus a side of fries. The salad was horrible. The dressing had almost no flavor, like it was watered down and the salad was drowned in it. The croutons were soggy. The romaine was fresh though. She did not receive her fries that she ordered. My mother-in-law had the French dip and a side salad. That was actually not too bad. But her side salad was pretty bad (wilted lettuce and a few whole cherry tomatoes just thrown on top). Oddly, they gave her fries despite her not ordering any. The waiter should've used a pad to write our order down if he couldn't remember our orders. He had to come back to our table to confirm our order. This was my first visit here, I was not impressed. My wife and mother-in-law have been here many times in the past. According to them, this place used to be pretty good. You could go there and have a decent meal and feel pretty good about it. But right now, I would not recommend this place at all. We had a very bad experience here. read more
