I left for another clinic after the FO strongly suggested I not get my dogs nails clipped there and wanted $42 plus a $32 nurse fee for a trim that also required an appointment. We've been taking our dog to Mt. Tabor for just shy of two years. We're now relocating out of area, so I wanted to take a minute to publicly say how happy we've been with the folks at Mt. Tabor and how much we're going to miss this practice! Mt. Tabor has by leaps and bounds been the best veterinary experience we've had and I think our pup would agree! The communication has been proactive and clear, the pricing reasonable and also clearly communicated, everyone on the team from the folks at the front desk, to the techs, to the doctors have been incredibly friendly to people and pets alike. The in-person experience felt far more comfortable and calmer for our pup than other vet offices he's previously been to and I felt that the transition required to drop-off for COVID was smooth, safe, and happened much faster and easier than at other service providers. Even when our pup needed to be seen elsewhere due to an emergency or us being out of town, the staff at Mt. Tabor were in the loop and great about following up about how our dog was recovering. Mt. Tabor Vet Care is honestly one of the things I will miss the most about living in Portland. If you're in the market for a new vet, I highly recommend giving them a call. read more

I have had my kitty for fourteen years and she developed stomach cancer. I took her in and they evacuated her with out gouging me for money on unnecessary test told me that the out come would be Grimm. After 5 months of watching my beloved cat deteriorate, they called, emailed, and put me in touch with a grief counselor which provided me some intellectual information to allow my best buddy and my self to be at peace with her passing. More good than bad about my experiences here but it ended up being too expensive and a little frustrating. They took good care of my dog and were vigilant about running tests and doing checkups. I stayed with them despite living at a distance because my dog seemed comfortable with them and I always found the doctors and staff friendly. As time went on, though, it got to be a bit much. They were urging me to run very expensive tests on pretty minor things while failing to notice big ones (a heart murmur had to be spotted by a dentist!). On a few occasions I would mention something, have it brushed off as no big deal, then have them mention it on the next visit as if it were a crisis that required more expensive tests. Also things like losing track of samples... not the biggest deal in the world but it does make me wonder how organized they are. No hard feelings and if I still lived in the neighborhood I would probably stick with them, but in my case I thought I'd be better served with a vet that seems less "boutique" but more functional. read more

I've been taking my dog Abby here for over 4 years and have always had a wonderful experience. Abby gets very anxious and mouthy when strangers handle her, but the folks at Mt. Tabor have always been very calm and patient with her. This is a sharp contrast to some of the other places I've had to go to when a last minute appointment was needed. In those scenarios, the first thing they did was put a muzzle on her which only exacerbated the situation. Not at Mt. Tabor. Dr. Lisa Williams always is very calm and goes at a speed which Abby feels comfortable with. I can also say I never feel rushed there. It doesn't matter how busy they are, everyone takes their time to answer any questions I have. I've had two dogs and one cat cared for at Mt Tabor, and I've been very satisfied with their care. Drs Lisa Williams and Krissy Bussman care for my critters like their own. On our first ever visit, Lisa held my toy poodle's head in her hands, kissed the top of his head, and called him "my angel." When he finally had to be euthanized, they rearranged an existing appointment to make him the last one of the day so that they wouldn't have to be rushed to make the next appointment. After the appointment, Krissy hugged me and told me how sorry she was. My pets haven't been afraid to go in to this office like they have some others. It's not set up like most vets, with raised exam tables and so forth - it's more like being in a living room or den, which I think makes my guys less nervous. I know I'd feel a lot more comfortable seeing my personal doctor if his exam rooms looked like these do. Reviews here mention the cost - in my experience, Mt Tabor is in the middle range of vet charges, and I'm happy to pay more than the cheapest vets charge because I really believe that my pets and I are getting more than I pay for. Unfortunately, this place is more expensive compared to other vets in Portland and offers less in follow up service and when things don't go smoothly... WAY less compassion and accountability than I've ever seen in any business. It's all peaches and cream here until you deal with something a little harder than a nail trim and overpriced check up. I believe a clinic can be judged by how they take accountability with mistakes and I will tell you in my experience, there is none here. I have decided to leave this vet after being there since 2019. My dog has suffered longer than she should have had by any basic standards of care with our most recent experience. It was upsetting and an exhausting and hard to see my pet go through this needlessly longer than she should have. We've been taking our cats to Mt Tabor for the last decade, and we honestly couldn't imagine taking them anywhere else. They're kind, compassionate, and always considerate of the needs of our cats in combination with our finances. My two dogs, an 8 year old terrier mix and a 6 month old husky mix, haven't been patients at Mt. Tabor Vet for very long. I had planned to wait to write a review until we had some more visits here, but I had a really positive experience at our most recent appointment which prompted me to share it with you all. We recently moved to the Sunnyside neighborhood and were pleased to discover that Mt. Tabor Vet is only about 3 blocks away from our house. Our puppy was 4 months old and when we tried to establish care, there wasn't any availability until a month after our appointment request. Because of the positive reviews and close proximity we still wanted to establish care here so we booked the earliest possible date, but took our puppy to get microchipped and his rabies shot elsewhere since we didn't want to wait. Our first appointment went great. The office has a cool, cozy, urban vibe and gestures like providing coffee or tea are definitely a plus. I love their clever trick of masking the scale near the front desk to look just like the floor. The doctors, nurses, and vet techs are all skilled. I can tell their priority is maintaining a positive environment for the animals, but without compromising the care they are giving. The visits are comprehensive. They even did a calorie analysis on how much our dogs should be eating. I feel like the costs are fairly reasonable. For an initial exam and 2 vaccinations we paid $130. The exam rooms don't resemble a typical exam room at all - no exam table, just some comfortable couches and a desk with computer. I was a little surprised when I saw that the floors were covered in carpet, but I couldn't pick up even the slightest musty smell that would make me concerned about sanitation. In fact, their attention to maintaining a clean and safe environment for their animals is why I'm writing this now. On our most recent visit, we were wrapping up the exam and I stepped out into the hallway to head to the front desk to pay. There was a poodle that had stepped in that seemed to be coughing. I think we all had the same thought -- kennel cough. The ladies at the front desk swiftly asked the owner to step back outside and politely asked me to step back into the exam room. They then left to the back and returned with a mop and mopped the floors and wiped down the walls. While I was waiting in the exam room, someone came in to complete our check-out on the computer that was located in the exam room. I'm sure each office has a standard protocol when dealing with kennel cough exposure, but witnessing the way the staff handled the situation really made me confident in our decision to trust Mt. I went to this clinic recently for the first time to utilize their cremation service for my dog that died that morning (he lived 15 long years). The staff woman in the front appeared well trained to treat grieving clients. She was very kind and the service was affordable. I was surprised that a couple weeks later, the clinic sent a card to my home signed with short messages of sympathy by its four veterinarians. Thank you. The gesture is sweet and appreciated. I felt sad to leave my dog's body at a clinic to be disposed of but the staff treated me with a lot of care. read more

We loved this clinic! Fantastic facility and staff. We went to another clinic in Portland first but were very happy that we made the switch. Our young labrador had some bad allergy issues. The doctor was very engaged and ended up referring us to a dermatologist, which we really appreciated. Also, the staff showed us how to properly clean our dog's ears as apparently we had been doing that wrong the entire time! The clinic itself is so nice, the rooms feel very homey. Just saw that it's been six years since I reviewed Mt. Tabor Vet. I moved out of the neighborhood about three years ago and still take Jake to these wonderful people even though it's an hour drive on some days. We recently went back for oral surgery after my buddy broke his tooth, I was nervous but knew he was in good hands that care about him and me. Everything went smoothly and the communication throughout was excellent, they always call the day after any procedure to make sure all is well. Today, I had a vet emergency. I had walked to the bank, and when I got back, my dog had gotten into my medicine drawer and had eaten his whole bottle of NSAID arthritis medications. I looked up an overdose in that medication, and saw it was potentially fatal. I quickly looked up how to induce vomiting in dogs, but saw that it involved hydrogen peroxide. I didn't have any, so panicked, I rushed him to my vet -- which was closed. I hurried here, because yelp said it was the next closest one and I was heartened by the good reviews. Unfortunately, we had a pretty bad experience. I was really harried because I didn't know how early on into my walk my dog had eaten the medication and additionally, we had already wasted time by going to a closed vet. When I got to this place, the receptionist was slowly entering data into her computer. Finally, I interrupted her and said, "Not to be alarmist or anything, but my dog ate a whole bottle of medications." She replied that she'd just be a minute because her computer was sticking, which REALLY wasn't what I wanted to hear. She finally called a tech who took us back. She didn't check my dog to make sure he was stable. She didn't do anything. She just told me that there was nothing they could do because they had one vet and she was busy. At this point, I was shaking and asked if they could at least induce vomiting since I had been unable to do that at home and I didn't know how much time had passed and I had read that if the medications went into the small intestine and got absorbed, that was really bad news. She said she'd go back to check. When she came back, she said no, they wouldn't even induce vomiting. Instead, she sent me to a place ten miles away, saying she was just following orders. They didn't call them to let them know I was coming, nothing. They DID google the address on the aforementioned "sticky" computer which was taking so long, I just said, "you know, I can look that up faster on my phone" since I was so worried about the time issue with my dog. When I got there and they heard how much time had elapsed since my dog had ingested the whole bottle of medication, the veterinary hospital was pretty concerned. I explained that I had been to 2 other vets previously, one closed, and one that had refused to induce vomiting. They were shocked and asked me which vet this was Well, it's this one. Luckily my dog lived -- he had to get his stomach pumped, take in two bottles of charcoal, have iv fluids, etc. But I've never encountered a vet so callous that when a dog presented with an emergency, they just sent them away as time ticked down as their body absorbed the poison. Could you imagine if this was a human scenario? "Oh, I'd like to induce vomiting since your son ate all that poison, but. We're all really busy. Why don't you try ten miles away? The greatest and most compassionate service we have received so far from Mt. Tabor has been in their care of our sweet, gentle, very elderly dog, Tinker, whom we adopted in November of 2012. We knew her days were numbered when we adopted her from the shelter, and we adopted her without hesitation despite this knowledge. But we were surprised when the end came so quickly. From the beginning, she was on a cocktail of anti-inflammatory drugs and pain medicine. Mt. Tabor worked with us regarding where we chose to get the prescriptions filled, and they provided us a written prescription that we could fill affordably. This was a simple transaction, which we greatly appreciated. After an unexpected evening at an ER clinic, we followed up with Mt. Tabor only to learn that what we suspected - cancer run amuck - was indeed what was happening with our sweet girl. We chose to end her suffering after having had her for such a very short time, but we did not feel rushed to decide. Neither Bud nor I hesitate about making these important decisions. We both believe that ending suffering is a gift that we can give to our animals. We chose to spend some time alone with her. To fill her up with bowls of canned cheese product and to love on her and scritch her ears and cheeks. And then we chose to let her go. We had never experienced this in a non-emergency vet clinic. It was oddly beautiful. Those in the room with us were part of her transition and not simply performing a necessary procedure before moving on to the next appointment. It was our time. Her time. And it was peaceful. We feel more connected to this clinic now than ever before. We have certainly advocated to friends and anyone who would listen that they provide great services. But what they did for Tinker, we will never forget the compassion and the caring and the tears and the humane ending that we were able to provide to her. That is more than a treatment option listed on a price sheet, more than a service rendered. The memory we have of Tinker in this moment is treasured. read more

Our very first visit went wonderfully. After reading the Yelp reviews we were thankful to find a vet so close. The second visit was even great, but after having our cat endure oral surgery, I questioned a few things. For one, I never had contact with the vet other than via email after such a traumatic event for our cat. Everything was handled through the tech. After spending a fair amount of money, it would have been nice to have had at least one face-to-face interaction after the surgery with the vet. A few months after that, I wanted to get more sedative for our extremely anxious cat because we were travelling with him. I happened to be up on the 1-800 site and ordered the sedative, knowing full well that they would need a prescription from the vet. A day or so later I got a call from the vet letting me know that this site was not the most reputable. Great! The vet told me I could certainly get the sedative through them for not a lot more in cost, so I scheduled to pick it up. After doing so, I realized that the number of pills given didn't match with what they told me I would receive so I called. The tech that I eventually spoke with was condescending and rude. I explained several times that the amount mentioned in the email was not the amount I was given. She explained that there was a fee for filling the prescription. Really? I then mentioned that it still didn't match what I was originally told I would receive. We went round and round until she finally said to me, "Would you like me to send you an email? Will that help you to understand better?" No! I want you to provide better customer service!!!!! Never again. The next time we needed a vet we went to VCA Laurelhurst. Wonderful experience with each vet and tech and front desk person EVERY single time! For the same service, Mt Tabor is way more expensive and not nearly as friendly or comprehensive with their service. read more

Wow. This place went way beyond my wildest expectations. Paige C. and I just moved here and needed a new vet and we met Dr. Bussmann (Krissy) at the Mt. Tabor 100th anniversary celebration. I called on a Monday and left a message to schedule an appointment (they's closed on Mondays since they open up on Saturdays). They called as soon as they opened on Tuesday and put me down for an 11:45am slot. So I arrive, and notice this place seems more like a spa than a vet's office. Everything is super clean and has this calming effect. Maybe it's the space/decor, maybe it's the people - but it's friggin' serene in there. I had a migraine and felt terrible when I took our dog in. The staff were understanding and were extremely patient whilst dealing with my lack of coherent-ness. The nurse even gave me some peppermint tea to settle my stomach (which worked, btw). When we went in to the exam room, I noticed the little white board outside the room had a welcome message just for Hercules, our Great Dane. Inside, I can only describe the room as swank. Yes, I'm talking about a vet's exam room. I would've moved in (if I could afford the location). The nurse was great and Krissy was very kind and comforting. She knew her stuff and explained everything in great detail (including afterward when I called to ask a follow up question). It was pretty cool seeing everything on a giant computer monitor (yes, they have electronic medical records) and I was given a clear run-down of all our options before deciding on how to proceed. Since we were new customers, we got a canvas "eco-bag" tote as a gift. That just put me over the top. A personal welcome on the white board, the tea and the tote aren't necessarily going to make my dog's experience better, but it sure makes ME feel all warm and cozy inside. With all these perks, I totally expected the bill to ridiculous, but it wasn't. In fact, it was comparable to any other vet office. Yup, we found our new vet. Knowledgeable and caring staff, reasonable prices and a swank-ass office make Josh (and Hercules) happy boys. read more

The vet care at Mt Tabor is very attentive and the atmosphere is spa-like for owner and pets, however, I am changing my review given their apparent inflexibility over one issue. Mt Tabor Vet refuses to allow an online and reputable company, Drs. Foster and Smith (that sells Heartworm tablets) to call and verify that our dogs had received heartworm tests and were negative. They will give the script to send out, but refuse to call or to be called, even though we have been ongoing clients for a couple of years. They say the reason is because the heartworm pills may not be safe (yet, they are packaged in the same way as at the vet's office). We've spent thousands of dollars at Mt Tabor, and though we've been very pleased with the attentive care, we are extremely displeased with their lack of flexibility. Clearly, they want us to buy our heartworm pills from Mt. Tabor, which, like most vet offices, are marked up, especially compared to the online prices. Here's the thing: Mt Tabor is extraordinarily expensive. Perhaps this is because it doesn't feel like a hospital, and you can get french press coffee while you wait, or organic, mint chocolates. It's all lovely, but we want to be able to choose what we do with our animals. In addition, Mt Tabor Vet does not offer after-hours care, should you have an emergency. Sum up: Mt. Tabor Vet offers exceptional veterinary care, but their refusal to do something so simple (to just take a call from the online Drs Foster and Smith) is going to cost them our business. read more

First of all, the swag is not important, and if you choose a vet because they give you french press coffee or have nice decor, you're doing it wrong. But this is in fact the best vet clinic in town. By far. This vet clinic is the Beyonce of vet clinics. Flawless. I stopped going there a month ago for logistical reasons that are not relevant. The vets are utterly devoted to pets, like we're talking some next-level worship of puppies and kitties. I will never ever forget seeing Dr. Williams somehow get my ornery, previously abused Cavalier King Charles Spaniel onto her lap, belly up, which is not something he tolerates from anyone, and then lean her head in and cuddle with him. What a sight. I almost cried. All 3 vets are legitimately brilliant. And they give you a quote before doing any test or procedure, and they will honestly tell you what can wait and what is urgent. I seriously loved this clinic, and since I left, I have had zero luck finding anyone even in the same galaxy of good vet-ness. I wish I could find another vet clinic that I could trust with my sick dogs' care. Alas, there does not seem to be one. I've tried a couple, and one vet almost killed my dog (literally) with a wrong prescription (and I had to stay awake an entire night to make sure she didn't die as a result), and another clinic was all about making profit off unnecessary treatments while shaming me for being a negligent pet owner, without even knowing me before that appointment. So I'm pretty bummed I had to leave Mt Tabor, since my dogs are now without good care and are therefore the ones suffering, but I did have to leave, and that is just the immutable fact of it. I'm pretty pissed at the situation. Go to this clinic. You won't regret it. Shoutout to staff Matt, Theresa, and Josephine. Talk about customer service & keeping on top of the details! While dragging our weary bodies back home from a fun day of snowshoeing (us) & snuffling snow (the pooch) not only did I receive an email with copies of the dastardly doodle's lab results but also a phone call from Dr. Sulis discussing his results as well as following up on how he's doing the day after seeing Oski. She discussed some borderline lab abnormalities that were likely within the normal range but just to be safe asked us to come in to repeat the test in a month or so just to make sure. No pressure, the decision's up to us. Just that little extra step that doesn't cost much but lets you know that they care & want to make sure that things don't get missed Now if they only did laundry.... read more

Poor Butters the cat. He has fleas, is 54% overweight, and is in dire need of a teeth cleaning. Good thing we found Mt Tabor Vet Care! Not only do they have swanky digs (chandelier, cozy couches, modern decor), once you are in an examination room, they let your cat roam around freely and get used to the idea of having someone pressing on his internal organs. The staff members here are so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. You can tell they really love animals and care about their clients. They put Butters on a diet plan and flea medication and assured me that he would be flea-free and svelte in no time! read more

I'd been wanting to check out this veterinary hospital since a vet I'd worked with was passionately seeking employment at this clinic. I remember the vet showing me the web site and all of the cool, modern, "green", compassionate practices that she was drawn to in the hospital. And I remember thinking: this is the sort of place I would feel comfortable taking my pets. This was in the vicinity of a couple years ago. We finally adopted a good old dog from the Humane Society and wanted to get him in to a clinic for an initial assessment. Our new family member is a mystery case: probably around 8 years old with no known history, brought into OHS as a stray. We know nothing about him. Does he have a heart condition? Does he like fine cheeses snuck from under the dinner table? Did he used to sleep on the couch when his last family was away from home? We know virtually nothing. So an initial consult is important. Mt. Tabor Vet is the first place that came to mind. Having been the co-owner of a dog daycare as well as a veterinary ER and ICU nurse for seven years, as well as a bit of a hippie, I've come to have quite high and unique expectations of veterinary care. My initial visit to Mt. Tabor was NOT a disappointment. My new adoptee pooch is an 8 year old border collie/ smooth retriever who we brought home with kennel cough. So we were put in the isolation ward at Mt. Tabor. Isolation is on the small side, but it was cozy. The receptionists were sweet and welcoming, as was the technician, Sarah. When the doctor came in, we were asked if we'd like a refreshment, and were brought individual-serving French press coffees w/ cute little cups, creamers, and sugars. The veterinarian introduced herself by her name, NOT the acronyms of her degree, and had an immediately comforting and down-to-earth vibe. She did not hesitate to get down on the floor cross-legged with our pooch. She performed a physical and got a history in a very conversational way. I have to give her extra props: I have high expectations and can be a bit of an abrasive personality. Kristin Sulis, the vet, is just as good with human breeds as she is with our four-legged (and occasionally three-legged) companions. Though this was just an initial exam with kennel cough to boot, Dr. Sulis provided multiple treatment options without applying pressure to pull out the big bucks. She also offered suggestions for future preventative care, and (this is really embarrassing), showed me that I'd actually been using my new Kong harness upside down...! Another very cool feature of the clinic is: EMAIL! The doc will email any medical or case information, so you don't have to worry about paper waste or loss. How nifty is that? The actual medical practice and philosophies of the doctor herself, I feel, are the most important part of finding a veterinarian that you can trust and be on the level with. That being said, I must also comment on how thoroughly beautiful the clinic itself is. Clearly, much thought was put into the design of the clinic. This can put any human companion at ease, whether they're at the vet for an initial exam, an emergency procedure, a routine procedure, or the sad but sometimes necessary case of euthanasia. Huge props to the Kristin and Krissy and all of the veterinary staff that make this an upstanding clinic. read more

The staff is very nice but the fact that the whole place is decorated as a living room with no examination tables, supposedly to make the dog more confortable is frankly ridiculous. I don't go to the vet to cozy up with my doggie and read a good book, I go because I need a professional opinion. The vet I saw (Dr.Bussman) enters with her assistant and everyone gets on all fours with the Vet holding a flashlight on the problem area. I do not find this examination method to be very efficient, just ridiculous and in my opinion a manipulation to allow them to charge more. The Vet I saw only does diagnostic visits, if surgery is needed another vet-surgeon is called in ... katchink, katchink, katchink$$$... A prescription was given to my dog for her itching that was entirely ineffective and the Vet really didn't have a clue what the problem was with the growths on her rear (though the antibiotics she prescribed did help the inflammation). A friend who goes there and has since stopped told me they tried to charge her $2000 for a teeth cleaning. I had my dogs teeth cleaned recently with a small procedure to remove a split tooth at a wonderful vet in Gresham and it costs me $217! How dare these people take such advantage of people's duress about their animals illness? Is it because of the influx of wealth into Portland that this is permissible? read more

I am a former client, never to return. I was told one thing on the phone, then when I arrived they told me something totally different which of course was way more money than discussed on the phone. So, lie to the client on the phone regarding prices, then once the client is in your door and desperate to take care of their animal, tell them a totally different price... Don't go here if you want to order your prescription through 1-800-PetMeds! I had taken my cat to Pet Samaritan Clinic for 5 years before moving back to Iowa, but was never crazy about the people there. Upon returning to Portland, I looked for a new vet to bring my pets to and found Mt. Tabor Vet's website. I loved their straight-forward pricing page and decided to bring my dog here for his yearly shots. On the day that he was due for his shots, he was REALLY under the weather. I told them he may have gotten into some rib bones and they proceeded to pull up their computer program and scare me with a list a mile long of stuff they might have to do and a possible HUGE bill. The vet talked forever, but in the long run just sent him home and said to keep an eye on him (he bounced back to his normal self in the next day or two). I rescheduled him for his shots and came back twice (since they don't like to do more than 3 shots in a day) and got everything taken care of. When my dog was a puppy he had a case of mange and my vet in Iowa prescribed him Revolution (flea/tick/heartworm stuff), which cleared up his mange. He finally ran out last week and I figured, since when I was at the vet they seemed to promote using Revolution, that I could get on 1800petmeds.com and order his prescription and they would contact the vet (just like my vet in Iowa) and they'd send over my prescription no problem. Not that easy. I got an e-mail from PetMeds saying that my vet would not approve the prescription and to contact them. I called them and they told me that they didn't like people using PetMeds because they didn't know where PetMeds got their medication from. They said they check the website and offer the meds at the same price, plus $5, and would prefer I buy it from them. I told them I was getting it for $160 (Memorial Day sale and 5% off coupon), but they made no offer to sell it for $165. They sounded reluctant, but offered to e-mail me the prescription. After researching online and talking to a friend (she told me "I worked at a vet clinic and they want you to buy it at the vet because then they get the mark up price money from you. They just want your money. We were taught at my old vet job to try to sell frontline and heartguard products even in the winter months. There's nothing wrong with 1800petmeds, you can also buy shots and flea and tick preventatives at farm hardware stores.") I decided to go ahead and continue my purchase with PetMeds. I e-mailed the prescription to 1-800-PetMeds and they sent me an e-mail saying they would call the vet to confirm it. I got a call from PetMeds today saying that Mt. Tabor Vet would only approve a 6 month prescription. Fortunately, PetMeds is only charging me half of the $160, but I got a really good deal and probably won't get as good of a deal next time I have to order. In the long run, 1-800-PetMeds is keeping me as a customer and Mt. Tabor Veterinary Clinic is not. read more

Tabor Vet since I was 3 months old and man do I love it there! Everyone remembers me, gives me treats and is always available when my crazy dog mom has questions. And trust me, she has a lot of them. Even though I've had a few shots and procedures done there, all I can remember is the love and attention that they show me each and every time. Nurse Matt is my favorite. He answers any and all questions with a smile!" OK Booker, time for your mom's two cents. Clean, comforting and caring. Three words that I'd use 1,000,000 times over to describe Mt. Tabor Vet. They are so good in fact, that on our daily walks, Booker stops, smells the door and wants to go in to say hello to his friends. "Stop it mom, you're embarrassing me!" First - many thanks to my fellow Yelpers for recommending this clinic so highly - because without your endorsements, I may have returned to my previous vet that just wasn't quite the right fit for me and my pooch. That being said, all I can say is THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU AND YOUR PET. Your search is over. I just made my first visit to Mt. Tabor Veterinary Care tonight. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not your ordinary clinic. I have been in HUMAN medical clinics numerous times that don't even come close to measuring up to this place! The waiting room is just the start - wait until you reach the exam room. Carpeting? A couch? Ottoman? Seriously, my Dachshund thought we had totally upgraded our living room! And, to admit the truth - it smelled a lot better than our living room, too! So, what you're REALLY looking for is great animal care - and you will not be disappointed. The ambiance is great - but the staff is SUPERLATIVE. You won't feel rushed - every person we encountered was absolutely professional, warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Sulis spent over an hour sitting on the FLOOR to visit with my Doxie and me - and takes a very intelligent approach to solving health concerns and setting up a well-reasoned plan for treatment. If you work typical business hours, you'll appreciate their clinic hours. If you would rather relax during your pet's appointment, you will here. If you love your pet - and you must, since you're reading reviews on veterinary care right now - then do you and Fluffy or Fido a favor, and take them where they do everything right. We have three pugs and the breed needs a lot of vet care by default. Yes, I can confirm Mt. Tabor is more expensive than other vets in Portland, but they also earn it (and compared to vet prices in larger cities they are on par with that anyway). I can't disagree more with the (few) detractors in the reviews. For example, I've called and hit the emergency menu item more than once, and gotten a vet tech immediately who calmly walked through options of which emergency hospital is best to go to. When your dog has a medical crisis, that's really want you want. Similarly, after treatment, the vet techs are available for as many follow-up calls as you need and are very knowledgeable. Others have complained that MT Tabor doesn't have t a "typical layout" of bet office and there is some sitting on the floor or the couch to make the pets comfortable. I get why some see this silly, but if you give it a chance, it works really well -- it's a calm atmosphere and our pets (at least) are calmer for it. Additionally, Mt. Tabors even keeps notes in the file on what made the dog most calm; once we went in with our oldest pug and the vet tech quickly said: "In our notes, if you hold him this way on the couch we had the easiest time getting blood last time". That's attention to detail that I've never seen at any other vet. We primarily see Dr. Bussman. She's smart, thoughtful, and her love for animals is effusive. That kind of thing really matters: I've been to vets who seem to be "phoning it in"; Not Dr. Bussman: she is engaged and (as with the vet tech) keeps detailed notes and answers all questions patiently and thoroughly (and my wife and I have always have enough questions to try anyone's patience :). I recommend this vet without reservation, and the few times I've been to emergency vets for our dogs, the vets at the emergency places speak highly of Mt. Tabor too. read more

I love Mt. Tabor Vet Care. The staff is super friendly and attentive, and know me and my dog by name. I've never once had a bad experience at this clinic, even with a very special needs dog (I'm also a hi maintenance human counterpart). Mt. Tabor Vet has always gone out of its way to accommodate us, and to make us as comfortable as possible. My dog has been treated by every vet at this clinic, and I couldn't recommend them more. I can't say enough good things about this place. From check-ups and last-minute emergencies, to kind follow-up phone calls, you can tell they really care about your pet and you. I personally love that they are willing to offer pet advice, big and small, over the phone. Also, my cat isn't particularly vet-friendly and even when they're facing his claw-filled tantrums--their response is sympathetic and caring. If that's not enough, the waiting area is lovely and the main examination rooms offer the ambience reminiscent of a classy Portland hotel. My cat gets twice as classy, just being in it. Bottom line: I've never received such personal care and undivided attention from a vet (or doctor, for that matter). If they saw humans, I would go there, too. read more

Brought our sick, new to us cat to Mt Tabor and I was pleasantly surprised with the wonderful staff and care. They were obviously more concerned about my cat's health than making a buck. I cannot say enough good things about this place! Walking in, I felt as though I had stepped into a swanky modern loft- exposed concrete floors, minimal decor, and industrial ceilings made me swoon with jealousy and admiration. Each exam room feels like a room in a house- a nice table, digital photo frames filled with patient photos, and soft, ambient lighting. The whole staff is incredibly and sincerely helpful and friendly. Dr. Bussman and Dr. Sulis are extremely knowledgeable, quickly diagnosing two issues with my cat that three other vets have not been successful in discovering. Once on a treatment plan to treat both her newly found food allergies and hyper-thyroid, my cat had a new lease on life. Instead of being lethargic and "acting her age," (she's 12), she is now running around and playing like a young whippersnapper. I can't thank these doctors enough for their careful dedication and devotion to animals. read more

Mt. Tabor Vet is the absolute BEST and I dare anyone to argue that fact with me. Here are just a few reasons why: 1. When you arrive, they'll ask if you'd like anything to drink - coffee? water? When you say coffee, they bring you your own single cup french press!!! Who does that? 2. Their lobby has a wall dedicated to clients' pets that have died. It's awesome. 3. My pets are always relaxed there because each room feels like you're visiting a friends house rather than a doctor's office. 4. The vets AND vet techs get down on the floor with your pets and interact with them on their level. Face kisses and all. 5. When your dog has to get shots, they distract them with a bowl smeared with easy cheese. EASY CHEESE, PEOPLE! It's the best. You get to be the hero and hold the bowl of cheese while they administer shots and whatnot. 6. And not to harsh your mellow, but my dog recently passed away and I can't imagine going through that experience without their support. They helped me the whole way with information, personal stories, hugs and even tears. Call them. You can thank me later. read more

We just visited Mt. Tabor Vet for the first time, and I was absolutely blown away. From the minute you walk in, you're greeted with a comfortable seating area & lovely staff. Then, once we were taken into the AMAZING room, I was surprised there wasn't an exam table or ugly fluorescent lighting. Instead, there was a comfortable couch, furniture I'd probably buy for my home, and beautiful soft light. I could tell my dog was very comfortable, and I loved Dr. Bussman. We are new to the area, tried one vet office we didn't love, and now we're so happy we've found MTVC ... They are AMAZING!! read more
