my fave vetrinary clinic in portland...very clean & mellow atmosphere...The Docs & assistants are all very knowledgeable...Dr. Lisa Williiams is an amazing Vet...your pets will be in good hands at Mt Tabor Veterinary clinic Oh & BTW a sum of the negative reviewers unfortunately don't know the liabilities etc involved A-The woman that wanted them to induce vomiting in her dog that had eaten arthritis meds--Until a dog is checked & the medication is verified, inducing vomiting isn't always the best case scenario & can cause more problems B-The person upset about being charged for flea meds 2 weeks after getting checkups--If a dog has not been given flea meds on a regular basis & has not received meds in current month-The dog needs to be checked for heartworm b4 receiving new flea prescription...which requires a blood test C-if u have an emergency...Dove Lewis is where u go...or the closest EMERGENCY VET a responsible animal owner in the Portland Area should know that prior to any emergency... I challenge any caring animal owner to go to Banfield or sum of the other Vets around town...sum of which are very good others bad...they might tell u what u want to hear and charge less but that doesn't equal quality of care...just sayin

A relaxed Abby at the vet is a sight to behold!

Her primary vet is Dr Hook but due to some urgent issues she has seen a few different vets there, who are all super wonderful and sweet with her. The docs all go above and beyond to call me and make sure I have ample opportunities to discuss her care and answer my questions. They even are responsive via email in a timely manner. yesterday I called at 8 am to see if I could emergently get her in due to her getting sick, and they told me to come on over and drop her off and they squeezed her in for the day while I was at work! Super helpful and kind staff from the front desk staff to the techs and doctors. Ginger was given a poor prognosis with an xray showing a mediastinal tumor yesterday but she's already turning the corner with the steroids. Super thankful for their care!!

But wait there's more, a follow up text message and email that you must pay $$$ for that meet and greet visit by the end of today- 4 weeks before it happens. Wtf? You lost me there and the rest of my people and dogs. Sorry we I'll never get to spend a lot of money until we learn which one of you are good. Alberta Veterinary has been my vet since I relocated to Portland three years ago. They've done a…read moreterrific job keeping my eldery Bichon alive and thriving. I couldn't be happier with their care. I'm a bit amazed by those reviews that claim higher prices than expected. For example, Ashtyn C didn't get a written quote for "teeth cleaning?" Really? Does this person have any idea what can be involved with any kind of dental work for a dog? It's likely to include general anaesthesia if it's a serious cleaning. And was it "just a cleaning?" Somehow I doubt that. By the way, a mouth is a mouth. It doesn't matter if your dog is a chihuahua or a great dane, the same costs apply. In fact, chihuahuas are prone to serious and difficult dental issues due to their small mouths and tiny jaws. I've never even had a Chihuahua as an animal companion and even I know that. There's a lot about Ashtyn C's review that doesn't pass the smell test -- including his ignorance about dogs and how veterinary services are priced and shared with consumers. Didn't like the price? Then don't sign the consent form for care. I have never been provided with a significant service by Alberta Veterinary without knowing -- up front -- how much every aspect of that service would cost or likely cost and the low and high limit of the possible bill. I suppose I should give them "special credit for this," but this is standard procedure for ALL VETS. Like every other vet -- primary care or emergency -- they ITEMIZE the quote for you, providing low and high parameters and the time period for which that quote is VALID. They will then go over every aspect of service that you have questions on. I have always been given the opportunity to decide what was an essential part of the service being planned. I have always known what the service would cost. I have never been "surprised" by them. And, let's see, Hi C claimed that staff tackled and laid on top of his dog? Now, why would that be? Why would they be afraid? What exact behavior was your dog exhibiting? Was it a danger to the staff? One would assume so. Dogs can be dangerous. And Hi C was right there and didn't stop them and say, "Let us leave and plan to come back later. Maybe he needs to be sedated." I'm sure that if Hi C had expressed those concerns and sentiments, they would have accommodated their requiest. Hi C's probably the kind of dog owner who doesn't understand why they're supposed to pick up their dog's crap when out on a walk. No doubt, the world revolves around Hi C's sense of entitlement. Newsflash: my dog visits Alberta Veterinary at least once a month for a tech visit. He has never left traumatized. Then again, he's well behaved and well socialized. Maybe Hi C needs to be a little less "Hi" and a little more sensible about the behavior of their pet. Too many people these days don't use their heads, don't plan ahead, or don't plan at all. Or they blame others for their own shortcomings like not training and managing their animal companions well. Vet care is expensive. I'm low-income myself and sympathize with anyone struggling to afford vet care and sometimes having to make painful choices about what care is essential, what is crucial to my dog's quality of life, and what I can afford. If you're a pet owner who can't financially manage "surprises," then make sure you're not "surprised." Get a written quote, look into financing options, and/or see about accessing care for low-income pet owners through charitable organizations. Alberta Vet has never advertised itself as a "low cost" or "charity care" vet clinic so don't expect them to behave as one. Regardless, I have always found their costs for service highly competitive, if not fairly low. Moreover, they've ALWAYS provided me a written estimate up front for any significant care before getting my approval to procede. That includes the cost of a simple exam, a vet tech visit for monthly services, to surgery. They also do a very good job ensuring security for all patients and being aware when some patients are "reactive." That includes asking other people and their pets to vacate common areas when a reactive and potentially dangrous animal is going to be coming through.

We spent all day at home with our girl, knowing we would have to have her euthanized, but didn't have the money. Unfortunately, we were above the income requirement to get full assistance, but the total cost was less than any of the at home euthanasia places we contacted as well as cheaper than our normal vet. We arrived around 8:30 pm with our dog and requested their services. We got right into a room with her. They were very kind and empathetic. They were helpful in explaining everything. They allowed us to sit with our girl for as long as we wanted before and after the procedure (we were with her during as well). Letting her go was such a difficult, heartbreaking decision. TL;DR - Our dog was misdiagnosed by one of the doctors at Brooklyn Yard, which led to a cancerous tumor growing for months. It was not responsive to any kind of treatment by the time she was properly diagnosed, and my sweet girl has since passed. I discovered a new lump on my dog in early December, and the doctor did a fine needle aspiration. Instead of sending it to a pathologist, she assumed it was a lipoma given my dog's history and the fact she couldn't see any "cellular activity." This led countless back and forth visits to Brooklyn Yard, and their urgent care, Spruce, along with thousands spent in testing and imaging. For months, they led us in circles, insistent it wasn't cancer, despite my poor girl presenting so many symptoms that I now know are common for mast cell tumors. All it took to properly diagnose my dog was another fine needle aspiration, which a specialist sent to a pathologist. This is what Brooklyn Yard should have done to begin with. By this point, though, her tumor was too large and complex for surgery, and treatments like palladia and chemo were not effective. Also, when Brooklyn Yard first received the updated medical records and diagnosis from our specialist, their team called us, not to apologize or offer support, but to tell me they were canceling my dog's upcoming dental cleaning. They have yet to reach out since her passing last month. I am absolutely devastated and can't help but think how different things could have been if we hadn't put so much trust in the doctors at Brooklyn Yard. I miss my girl so much and will never be able to trust another animal in their care.
