I appreciate the fact that I can enjoy a delicious ice cream without having to suffer the repercussions of dairy as they offer a vegan option, and one that isn't limited to sorbet or sometimes you'll get that vegan option that makes you regret your own existence but not here. The vegan options I've had here are truly delicious. The coffee oreo one is my favorite but the dark chocolate, and pistachio nut flavors are also really good. Service is always friendly the times I've been here. It's conveniently situated just steps away from the lake where you can take a stroll or sit down on one of the many benches and enjoy your ice cream as you people watch around the lake. Possibly the best coffee ice cream we've ever had - Burnt Coffee. Strong coffee flavor with huge pieces of Oreo. Coffee Oreo is usually our go-to flavor and Mt. Tom's blew it out of the park. I can't imagine how this place doesn't have five-star reviews across the board. It's renowned to the point of getting occasional best-in-state mentions in the Boston papers (and Bostonians aren't really ready to admit that anything exists in the state outside of Rte 128). I live just one town away, but we have our own local ice cream place to which I've been loyal for the better part of half a century, so I hadn't dropped in on Mt Tom's before yesterday. Want to know how you can tell a REAL outstanding ice cream place? You can smell the superrich cream *from the sidewalk*. I could yesterday, anyway, after my wife and I'd hit Nini's for dinner and strolled down Cottage Street. The shop is spacious, the staff cheerful and accommodating, and they had many flavors available. I sampled the salted butter caramel (excellent, but I thought would be too much for me for two scoops' worth) and settled on the good old cookies 'n cream staple. Outstanding! The store also had many large jars of loose "penny" candy for sale, and I was charmed to pick up a pack of Howard's Violets, one of those "lost" candies of old that you can't find any more. We will certainly be back, and as one of the many fine shops on Cottage Street (which is E'hamp's artistic/eclectic district), you'll have several other options for shopping/entertainment to go along with your ice cream if you follow suit! read more

Fabulous ice cream. Came here with the family on one of the warmer winter days while visiting from Dallas. Great selection with some interesting specials. I got one scoop of Salted Butter Caramel and one scoop of the Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt to go with it. I wasn't disappointed. Hubby ordered the Coconut Almond Fudge and I had to steal a couple bites. He ordered the chocolate "jimmies" on top and some whipped cream. Delish! Mt. Tom's has pretty good ice cream. Not the best execution with some of the flavors, but overall very enjoyable and all made in house I believe. Prices are great too - under $5 for a large cup. The shop is awesome with all of the candy jars and old school feel. I tried a ton of flavors, but we ended up with the following: burnt sugar, cookies and cream, and fudge brownie. Burnt sugar was my favorite - like a more subtle version of sea salt caramel. Delicious and creamy. The cookies and cream was ok, more cream than cookies. Fudge brownie was also ok, didn't get much brownie. Others I sampled - pistachio tasted a bit too much like fake pistachio, strawberry cheesecake didn't really have cheesecake and the strawberry ribbons were way too sweet/artificial, cotton candy was very subtle. read more

I love his desire to push the flavor envelope. (A friend of mine tried the pickle flavor.) The cakes are amazing. The cookie sandwiches are too. It's a small shop, but there are tables outside. This place is incredible! We stopped in at Mt. Tom's recently while walking through Easthampton and have to say that we were amazed at the amount of different choices they had under one roof! This shop had both incredible ice cream and a great selection of candy. It was difficult to not walk out with your hands full of delicious goods! The staff here was incredible as well They were extremely polite and quick to serve the masses! The ice cream itself was phenomenal and my favorite was plain vanilla. I had a taste of strawberry basil which was excellent and super creamy, but I was really craving something light so the lemonade sorbet really hit the spot! If you sample the ice creams, do any sorbets before the ice creams; it's really difficult to appreciate the sorbet after having tasted the ice cream. One word for their ice creams: very creamy! This place also has 3-4 rows of all sorts of candy jars offering an array of goodies from old-fashioned to popular recent candies, nuts, granolas, sweets, and even loose tea samplers!
