Coming from Hawaii it was a different experience picking your own fresh fruits right off the trees and having to enjoy them and take it home. When we went in August the only fruits that we could pick was doughnut peaches and blueberries, because the apples were not ready to be picked and the pears had a little more time before they were for eating. Over all it was a fun experience and after you are finish filling your bag they weight it and charge you $5.00 per pound. read more

Cute spot! I went here late season in October and it was pretty picked over but the apples were super cheap. The person working was really not very welcoming or friendly though and just had some weird vibes! The setting is beautiful though and once you're among the apple trees it's very peaceful. read more

It's $3 per pound for cherries and blueberries! It's likely the best deal you'll find around the Hood River area. My friend and I ended up picking 18 lbs of cherries, both Bings and Rainiers, and oh man, they are so sweet. I was intrigued by the fact that the yellow Rainiers are actually sweeter than the pink ones. Definitely come here if you don't want to pay $5 to cherry pick at other places around Hood River. I'm taking off a star because of a lack of bathrooms and enough carts for everyone. read more

Overall had a great experience and tons of variety. Some trees may seem bare (especially pears) but there's more hiding up high! Only marking down because the cashier overcharged me. We got 1lb of pre picked and 13lbs of u pick, we were charged the 1.50 pre picked price for everything. Stopped in while driving the Hood River Fruit Loop. Parked by the orchard to see what the farm stand had to offer. Not much of a variety available for purchase. Maybe more to offer when picking yourself?! We bought some raw alfalfa honey (yum), donut peaches (not my fave), apricots and dried cinnamon apples (yum). The owner was super friendly. We ended up walking down to see Carlos the steer. It was a pretty dusty walk in the dirt, but worth it! Carlos is friendly and super cute! The view of the mountain behind the sunflower garden is gorgeous! They also have a kids play area with tractors. Overall a nice experience. May stop here again in the fall to see if there are more offerings at the farm stand. read more

When fruit is available, this is where I shop! Fantastic variety of fresh apples and pears and in the Fall, their cider doughnuts are a must! Even though I know better, I buy a dozen with the intent of sharing, but often eat my fair share! As the name suggests, the view is spectacular! With Mt. Hood, snow capped, standing tall and proud behind the orchard, it's a snapshot worthy of a calendar! In the Spring when the big cherry trees are in bloom, the vibrant pink petals agains a brilliant blue sky is stunning. When the cherries are available, I buy a huge bag. So sweet and delicious. Summer brings fields of dahlias for picking! And for snapping pictures! Even an amateur photographer can't take a bad picture with this type of scenery. This is a family orchard with a playground available for the kids. They even have toy John Deer tractors! And pick up trucks. Adorable. Everyone who works here is warm and welcoming. This is a must visit when you are enjoying the fruit loop. First stop at Grateful Vineyards next door, owned by the same family, and enjoy a flight of wine, hard cider and pizza. Then stroll down to the orchard to pick up fruit and fruit products to take home. Check the website for when they are open since it's obviously seasonal depending on the harvests. read more

My friends and I wanted to visit the Hood River Fruit Loop and go apple picking. We ended up at Mountain View Orchards. The orchard was beautiful! There was a small field with sunflowers, a little pumpkin patch, beautiful flowers you can cut and pay for by the stem, trees with a variety of apples, pears, and plums, and a breathtaking view of Mt. Hood. We visited on a sunny, Autumn day, so it was rather busy. We picked our own apples and pears. Although labeled at the end of each row, it became confusing once you were down in the orchard amongst many trees to know what kind of fruit you were picking. After we were done picking fruit, we decided to go to the restaurant. We were asked if we had reservations. No, we did not, but there were numerous empty tables. We were told we could order pizza and eat outside. We had a pear pizza and a pepperoni pizza. Both were delicious. I went back in the restaurant to use the restroom. The tables were still pretty empty. It kind of seemed like the staff was trying to push people to eat outside. Overall, Mt. View Orchards is a lovely place to visit, and the apples and pears were probably the best I've ever tasted. We will definitely make apple picking here a Fall tradition! read more

This used to be my farm of choice for fruits, vegetables, and ciders, but after the parents retired and the daughter took over, I stopped going. I appreciate the progress she brought to the orchards, but unfortunately it has also come with a hefty price increase. The final blow was last year when they were charging $6/lbs for cherries. Last year there was a glut of cherries in the region. The other growers didn't even bother harvesting them because the cost of picking was more than the cost of harvesting them. The experience at Mt View is not worth the price gouging. read more

I know I'm selling this place short because of so many other positive reviews. Yes, quite scenic, with a great view of Mt Hood in the distance. And a wonderful place to get a nice assortment of apples and pears. But, there were literally hundreds of people there today and parking was similar to searching for a parking place at the zoo which is where I felt I was at today! May be an exception and I'll try again sometime but, in an attempt to escape the city crowds, I found the Portland throng had similar ideas as I did and we all ended up at a very crowded spot indeed. read more

This was on our list of must visit while road tripping through Oregon. We got our fill of various kinds of fresh apples and pears. We had to try their famous cider doughnuts which were to die for. I should have bought a dozen. The orchard is absolutely gorgeous especially with the snow capped picturesque view of Mt Hood in the background. We couldn't get enough of the beauty of this orchard. This is a photographers dream sight. We already have plans to visit in late summer to enjoy their harvests and the sunflower fields. I can't recommend Mt. View Orchards and it's many brand enough. This local family have managed to maintain an orchard, build a wedding venue, and start a cidery, brewery, and winery all at the same time. Simply remarkable. The wedding venue alone is breathtaking. The fact that they branched out and built multiple businesses on site is astounding and the way they've maintained local quality is impressive. A truly great spot to pick yourself or to shop like a normal produce stand. They made it very easy so even my elderly mother in law got around ok and enjoyed her trip here. It doesn't look like much from the road, but this place is a gem. Keep driving in and you will be glad you did. A co-worker of mine told me about this place as well as one other. The prices here are pretty amazing. A good 50 cents a pound less than some of the other places we went to for the same types of apples. Along with apples, they offered pears, pumpkins and various types of squash on this visit. Upon going inside to pay there are other veggies to be had along with jams, honey, and cider. I'm sure you could spend quite a few hours here just looking around. Check this place out. Friendly folks, good prices and a wonderful variety of goods. read more

Another lovely orchard experience! Being greeted by a gorgeous view of Hood and a field of incredible dahlias was an incredible start to our visit. We went inside and chatted with an extremely friendly worker, who told us all about the fruit loop, specifically the cider offerings in the area. We sampled the cider, which was delicious, then went to u-pick our dahlias. So much fun! If we hadn't already picked a bushel of apples at our last stop, we definitely would have picked apples as well. Highly recommend stopping for the sunflowers and dahlias, as well as the cider here! read more

Buyer beware-- we were charged for the weight of the U-pick bucket! (an extra 1.5 lbs). We assumed at first that the weight would be automatically deducted by the clerk, but it was not. We assumed this was an honest mistake, until the clerk told us that including the weight of the bucket is what **the boss tells them to do**, unless the customer specifically asks to have it deducted from the weight! In the end, we were promptly refunded the difference, but man-- what a sleazy experience from an otherwise charming family orchard. read more

It's a hidden gem and worth the drive from Portland. Fresh fruits, warm family environment and down to earth owners the family of Ruthie and Lyle McAlexanders. The fruit jams are amazing, but if your flying out make sure it's in the checked in baggage..TSA wants your jam (they say it's like a liquid)! The fresh fruit is juicy and the pies are really to die for! Truly a beautiful place. Kids can practice driving skill on the motorized children tractors, pick fruit or play on the jungle gym or even with the two chocolate labs. It's really a place to slow down, take time out and be in the orchards, spend time with the family and friends. read more

Writing this review as a wedding coordinator and floral designer. I had the pleasure of coordinating and doing the florals for a wedding at Mountain View Orchards this past weekend. I'm a full-time planner residing in Los Angeles, but Hood River is where my family is from and the bride was a family friend. I've done over 50 weddings throughout the US, and this was, hands-down, one of the best venues I have ever worked with. First of all, it is built to a be a wedding venue: the flow of ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner reception is easy with the layout and spacing; there is plenty of equipment to suit all needs; there is a beautiful cottage available for bridal party to relax and get ready in. Second, the owner, Trina, does an amazing job of making every vendor's job easier. She created a fantastic PDF guide to help every vendor be successful during a wedding with details on equipment, things to be aware of, helpful hints--I wish every venue owner had something like this and is as thoughtful as Trina!
