Melvin is a true find! I had unscrewed the kitchen faucet…read morecap to see why the tiny, sealed LED light had gone out in the Allen + Roth faucet sprayer. Upon unscrewing the metal hose, it immediately retracted into the curved faucet -- slid through the tube and caught at the end of the pipe under the sink. I was able to feed it back up through the curved faucet, and could see the end of the metal hose up near the top side but was unable to pinch the edge of the hose and pull it through. I worked at it for a couple of hours -- trying and hoping that I could fix it -- but finally threw in the towel. Professional help was needed. Melvin answered my phone call at 8:30 am while on his way to an already scheduled service call. Hearing that we had guests who had just arrived the night before, he agreed to try and make it by our house that afternoon. Melvin was able to come by that afternoon, reconnect the water line, identify the part number of the faucet head, connect with the company's customer service department to determine the replacement part. Melvin is knowledgeable, patient, fair and kind. He goes the extra mile in providing plumbing service. Unbeatable!

I didn't have a second thought about who to contact and sent a request through to J Plumbing Service and arranged for a time for Melvin to come out to install. We did so, but Kohler sent the wrong part (not the part that Ben said we needed), which Ben discovered when he came out the second time to fix the faucet. So, we went back to Kohler, convinced them that Ben knew which part was needed. They apologized and promptly sent it, and Ben (and Mason) came out a third time -- it was the right part, and Ben promptly fixed the shower faucet. Big kudos to Ben, for his expertise, kindness, and patience, and to Mason for being his great helper.

Initially the construction business took priority and we couldn't get anyone to come for a repair. This no longer seems to be as much of an issue. However, we have still seen some challenges such as: some smell of alcohol (Cary Plumbing), some keep adding to the bill unnecessarily (Bizzy Bee), some bill thousands of dollars for a tank water heater worth less than a thousand (Blanton's), and some don't even show up (B & J Plumbing). CK was accurate about when they would be here. They were specific about their ability to address our issue. They confirmed their understanding. They expected nothing upfront to review the issue. While I was initially distracted by a call, they started review of the issue from outside. They were clean, friendly, and professional. Please consider them and post reviews especially if you find contrary to my experience. Plumbing in particular has been so challenging.

My setup is a bit odd (hot and cold reversed for the kitchen sink) but he figured out how to deal with it and showed me how to use the new faucet, which is different from the old one. He cleaned up well and sealed everything carefully. He was even kind to my annoying little dog! Will definitely ask for Chase again.

I just had a horrible experience with Midtown Plumbing, LLC. They were scheduled for last Friday,…read morewhich I had to cancel for medical reasons, and rescheduled and later confirmed for Tuesday. They showed up Monday, which the owner insisted wasn't his fault because computer systems are man-made and make errors (after Amber the scheduler told me earlier that Monday's appointment was the one I scheduled, despite confirmations for Tuesday). The technician told me that it seemed to work out well on Monday because we already had the appointment for Tuesday. Amber, the scheduler, called and left a message for me Monday, right as the plumber left, to call to schedule completion of work, which -- given that we had confirmed Tuesday already -- I assumed was for the second bathroom in our house that was having trouble. I didn't get a chance to call her on Monday, because my entire day was messed up by the plumber coming on the wrong day, which the owner said again he was sorry that happened but computers make mistakes, continuing to blame the computer instead of accepting any responsibility for doing anything wrong. Tuesday morning came and went. No one showed. I called today and was told by Amber they couldn't come out until Friday now (as we've had two tubs and two toilets clogged for our family of seven). I scheduled that because I knew it would be unlikely to have anyone else out before then because I would be starting fresh with a new plumber instead of simply trying to get work completed that had been scheduled for Tuesday. She said they couldn't come Tuesday because I didn't have a clear path to the bathroom for their equipment to pass through, and I explained (again) that I didn't have that clear on Monday because they weren't supposed to come on Monday but that the plumber said Tuesday would be fine as long as the path was clear, which I assured him it would be. The owner insists all conversations were recorded, as a threat that I would be "legally responsible for anything I said" if I wrote a negative review. I hope they are recorded, because they support my record of events. He also said that because I was going to post an honest review about my experiences, he was canceling the already scheduled Friday appointment. (He did offer to refer to me to a few other places, which I declined because I don't want to work with anyone he would recommend after the poor service from him. But this indicates that he felt comfortable enough to refer me elsewhere, as he wasn't comfortable working with me but felt fine connecting me with colleagues.) I asked, "so you're refusing to complete my service?" And he said yes because of all the "he said, she said" dismissing that everything I claimed was on record. I began to cry, and he laughed. I have no doubt I would have been treated with more respect by the owner if I were a man, but my husband has been dead almost two years so having him call wasn't an option. Even if I'm misreading the misogyny, steer clear of Midtown. They seem fine at first, but they showed up on the wrong day, didn't show up on the right day, and then canceled the rescheduled appointment (rescheduled from the day they didn't come) because I complained.

Our bill was $424.71 to replace the flow control valve in our toilet that was taking 10-15 minutes to refill the tank after flushing. Part cost around $25 at Lowe's leaving $400 for less than an hour of labor. I'm astounded that Plumbing Fixologist charges over $400/hour for their service. Their reaponse to the charges: "pricing is based on the overall service we provide as a licensed and insured plumbing company, which includes diagnostics, expertise, travel time, tools, warranty, and ensuring the issue is properly resolved" It actually took less than 20 minutes to complete the install. AMAZING! Afterwards, water was constantly running every 20 seconds. Plumbing Fixologist returned today to stop the constant leak/refilling by adjusting the float level. The tech was courteous and prompt. If using this service, you may wish to get comparison quotes before agreeing to repairs. The $75 service call you will be charged will be worth the expense rather than paying over $400/hour for your repairs.

They began work without approval from me or my insurance company, and later classified the job as an "emergency" -- despite the fact that it was scheduled during regular business hours. This appears to have been a deliberate move to justify inflated charges. Their invoice included questionable fees: an unjustified emergency service charge, inflated equipment monitoring hours, and duplicate charges for equipment that may have simply been relocated between rooms. I submitted a detailed written dispute and requested a revised invoice. Despite multiple follow-ups, Roto-Rooter has not responded. To make matters worse, they submitted billing after my insurance claim was closed, meaning I'm now being asked to pay out-of-pocket for charges that should have been handled properly from the start. This lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable. I'm sharing my experience to warn others: get everything in writing, scrutinize the invoice, and don't assume your insurance will cover what they bill.

Our next dealing with North Raleigh Plumbing and Mr. Richard came by way of our kitchen and bathroom faucets needing to be fixed. We called Richard and we told him the problem. He told us he would have to come out to see the issues for himself. We agreed on a date and time and he was here. He worked steadily on the issues and fixed the faucets. I swear to you, he makes it look easy! I make it a habit to read reviews on the things I'm planning to use or the places I'm wanting to visit. He was here for about 45 minutes looking at things and the best advice he could give me was to call a septic tank company. For this advice he charged me $130.00. My issue was he didn't even bother to mention that he had cracked the lid and when I called to ask about this he acted like it was no big deal. So now I am stuck with a foul smelling back yard, a broken lid that I have to fix, and a unresolved issue. Wouldn't recommend to an enemy.
