Unfortunately, their business model has changed from "honest and hardworking" to "opaque and manipulative." The Technical Issues: In 2020, Santa Air installed my trane system but failed to properly connect the emergency heat strips. I spent five winters wondering why my house wouldn't stay warm below 30°F. They missed this mistake during every subsequent maintenance visit over the 5 years. Recently, they tried to charge me $1,700 for repairs I didn't need. A second opinion confirmed their diagnosis was wrong; that technician fixed Santa Air's original installation mistake and the actual sensor issue for a total of $575. The Billing Issues: Their current pricing "tiers" (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are incredibly over-inflated compared to other local HVAC companies. And if you only need a repair included in the Gold tier, you have to pay for all the things you don't need in the tiers below it. The company was quick to respond and send a technician to my home on a Saturday, which I appreciated. Dee, the service technician, was professional, courteous, and pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, my overall experience was disappointing. I was charged a very high fee for less than an hour of work that did not require any replacement parts, and the service did not resolve the issue. I was then told that a sensor needed to be replaced and was charged for both the part and installation, with a return visit scheduled for Tuesday. On Tuesday, I called at 9:30 a.m. and had to leave a message. I received a return call around 10:30 a.m. and was given a service window of 1:00-5:00 p.m. However, no one arrived or contacted me during that time. Dee eventually showed up close to 6:00 p.m., but I never received a courtesy call or update that he would be running late. We knew this up front. This is a $40-60 part, and a 15-minute screwdriver job that I'd do myself if I were home. Attached is the pricing from SantaAir. They took advantage of her so badly. Look at the absurd number of upsells - somehow they want to convince you to turn what should be a $200 job into a $1200 job. Just replacing the motor is nearly $700 minimum and the tech couldn't explain the pricing. So, predatory pricing by anchoring high, selling you on redundant stuff that any HVAC system/zone control boards built in the past 30 years does by default, and convincing you that it's a deal because the minimum screwdriver job is half the price of the high anchor. Our AC decided to die late in the day of July 2. I contacted our regular HVAC maintenance provider and the earliest appointment was July 4th! With the house already 80 degrees and climbing, we were referred to SantaAir by a friend. I was able to book an appointment for the next day. John got us in late in the day after the appointment before us went longer than expected - close to what should have been the end of his day. But he quickly diagnosed the problems. Several problems existed that contributed to the AC failure- including what was done by the original installers who failed to set the system up to operate in an optimized manner the system is designed to operate in. John explained to us what the issues were and provided multiple paths forward while explaining the pros and cons of each. We had many questions and John answered each of them with clear info. We have never had any HVAC tech explain how and why issues came about. John did just that. He stayed well past 9 pm to ensure we didn't spend the holiday and weekend without AC and ensured that the system actually functioned as designed instead of "just worked". I have used Santa Air a few times over the past 5 years or so but will be discontinuing. Their prices have continually gone up and their quality has continuously gone down. The first time I was told my AC didn't work because I set my thermostat too low, but we did some fixes and got it running again. The second time I was told my heat wasn't working because the whole unit needed to be replaced, which I refused (it was only 8 years old at the time), so we replaced a very expensive part to get it going again. The third time I was told the heat wasn't working because my thermostats needed to be replaced, so I got a new thermostat installed for several hundred dollars because of the diagnostic fees. Every single time they will try to upsell you and get you to pay as much money as possible. In addition, they are slow, taking all day and sometimes into the evening to complete these jobs. If you own a home, you know that your HVAC system is one of the most important and expensive systems that needs to be maintained. I recently had my heat pump checked out by Santa Air, my heating bills were a bit high and given it's age (14 years old), I suspected something was wrong. For the check-up, their technician Tyler was right on time and took his shoes off when entering my condo. A couple of pressure checks later, it looks like my heat pump is leaking freon and it's an older freon that is not easily replaceable. I bite the bullet and schedule a replacement condensor/air handler which quotes out close to $6k for a 2 ton, 16 SEER unit. Which is reasonable from what my research shows. The installation gets pushed out a bit since SantaAir is busy but they are good responding to texts/calls quickly and even though the install hits a couple of snags, they are done in 6 hours. A return visit for a Nest thermostat completes the work and things are looking good! Overall I was very pleased with Santa Air's work: easy scheduling, good communications, fair prices and explanations of why/how things worked when asked. I've learned a lot about my HVAC system and appreciate the work SantaAir did for me. Here's to lower electricity bills this summer! read more

My 8 year old system has struggled in the June heat wave. The vents were pushing 75° air from the vents. Santa Air was the most available contractor given the circumstances. The online scheduling system allowed me to conveniently book a next morning appointment. Tyler Nguyen arrived professionally and was able to identify the issue as low freon by going over the results of the found low pressure and temperature within the system.
