I'm a GP resident and have purchased items from this store a few times solely for convenience, but it's simply not worth it. The first time, I purchased a pair of wired headphones which broke within a week after use. The second time, I purchased a tv mount which was missing necessary parts. The third time, I attempted to purchase a pair of Bluetooth headphones. I tested them out in the store to ensure they would connect, and they didn't connect. The salesperson tried another pair, which also didn't work, and then a third. He begrudgingly gave me my money back after insisting it was an issue with my phone (it was not). A few days later when I was walking down the street, he had the nerve to approach me and said he tried it on his phone and that it worked and it was my fault; one of the most inappropriate interactions I've ever had (and borderline harassment). This store is full of overpriced junk and the people that work there are creeps. Stay away!!! read more

I just moved to this predominantly white neighborhood In GreenPoint Brooklyn. (Employees are not white) My first time to this store and the stores employee followed me around the store while I was shopping and after I asked for room to shop, they started yelling at me, and jumping in my face! I asked for a corporate number and they forced me out of the store. Horrible experience especially after seeing this treatment on social media and then experiencing it first hand. read more

I really try to go out of my way and support local vendors when possible, and I try to be sensitive to the consequences of gentrification and rising rents. That said, it's pretty hard to keep walking that walk when every single non-chain store in Greenpoint is selling knock-off crap that costs just as much as the shit you get at an Apple Store, but breaks after a week. Guy running this store is a total fraud. I went in there to buy an iPhone headphone adapter and a pair of headphones. When I got out of the store, opened them up to find the headphones were of different lengths and sounded like absolute shit despite being labeled "Sony." Went back and demanded a refund, got tons of attitude, and he accused me of not bringing back all the packaging, and "throwing it into the street." Been a little over a week since then and the headphone adapter piece doesn't work now, surprise surprise. Avoid at all costs. read more

Pretty sure they stock appliances that were rejected by other stores-- stuff that probably fell off a truck on the highway. Bought an AC and carried it all the way home only to find it didn't work. To their credit, they were very quick to exchange it. After lugging the replacement unit home and opening the box, found the new unit is bent out of shape and cracked down the front. And I have to bang it on the side every once in a while so the fan will stop rattling. At least it blows cold air-- I don't feel like walking it all the way back. Next time i will make the trip out to Home Depot. Suggest you do the same. read more

Super sleazy. They tried to sell me a Philips Norelco T780 beard trimmer for $60. A simple google search reveals that other retailers as well as the philips website only charge $30-35. So unless you really know what you're doing, don't go here looking for advice. read more

I really like this electronic store. The customer service is really nice, don't know if is because I am female...lol the MTV name come from the store owner's name. They sell some arts items, some hard to find pieces of electronics like radios and recorders. I was able to get a big photo album that is not available in other stores. read more

My husband purchased something and at the same time I purchased the same at a different store (for nevertheless half the price), within 30 minutes of his coming home with his purchase I called the store asking to return the item and was met with "store credit only". I can't even give this business even one star (although Yelp insists I give at least one) as a star alone has greater integrity than MTV Electronics. During the hot hot heat of summer, my boyfriend picked up a simple AC for our apartment. We installed it but nothing cold came out of it. A few days later, we went to return it but since they don't offer returns, we were forced to exchange for a more expensive LG unit. OK, we paid up and returned home with the "new" unit that pushed out cold but made the most horrific sound that we couldn't sleep to. I returned again to the store to ask for a refund for this unit. Since they insisted that we couldn't get our money back (even though I already honored their policy once), we started working with LG directly with our warranty. After a couple weeks dealing with LG's repair service and finding out that the unit has a faulty compressor, LG informs us that they discovered through the copy of the receipt we sent them that MTV is NOT a licensed LG distributor and therefore could not continue helping us with our unit. I called to MTV once again and all he could offer was store credit. I don't want store credit from a store that isn't selling quality products, not to mention that they're selling products that they got from who only knows. I guess some things just fall off trucks. Moral of the story: DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM MTV SUPER (STUPID NAME) SOUND ELECTRONICS & APPLIANCES. read more

I have never been treated so rudely and disrespectfully at a place of business in my entire life. Upon entering the store, the owner made his way up to me and demanded to know what I wanted to buy. After telling him I was looking for an affordable speaker he told me some prices that were obviously too high (read the other reviews) so I said "thanks but I'll look around" and decided to keep browsing. As I was in one of the aisles, he approached and stared me down. I asked him if it was ok that I take a look around but he continued to demand to know what I was looking for - as if he thought I might steal something or simply didn't like me for some reason. Boycott this store! I don't know what happened to this man to have harassed me like that and to cause me to feel so uncomfortable, but whatever it was it wasn't good. Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere. People like this man do not deserve your dollar. They deserve to be out of business. I'm sure I'm not the first person to feel discriminated against while browsing this store and I know I won't be the last. I am so traumatized by this visit that I am actually going to complain to the better business bureau. I came here in a bout of sheer desperation after my MacBook Air power cord gave out on me mid-work. Admittedly, I made the mistake of not bringing my laptop along with me to test its workability, but the man, who I'm assuming is the manager and/or store owner, assured me I could bring it back for a full refund if it didn't work. I ran home, plugged it into my computer, and sure enough, it didn't work. I then sprinted to the Apple store and purchased an official cord there, and lo and behold, it worked. When I returned to MTV days later with my receipt in hand and the cord in its original box, the same man acted like he didn't remember me and said I couldn't return it and that there was nothing he could do. My best friend chimed in, telling him he ought to let me return it seeing as how that's what he had originally promised. Also, the product was faulty. He then asked her if she was here when the original exchange occurred, and when she said no, he said, "Then why are you talking? Be quiet." After unnecessarily arguing for a bit, he finally granted me a refund. I could not believe the lack of professionalism at this place. Don't go here; don't support this shady business. don't buy anything here!! i bought a $249.00 air conditioner here recently. when i got it home it was obviously a used unit (packaging not clean and original, fins/vents in the back were bent, there was a rust patch on the bottom, and the digital temp control was stuck and you could only adjust it with the remote). more importantly, even though it was 8000 BUT (supposedly) it couldn't cool my 150 sq ft. room. when i brought it back to the store the owner suddenly was not so "friendly and nice." also, his demeanor made it clear that he was not the least bit surprised that the unit hadn't worked. when i accused him of selling me a used/broken unit, he did not even try to deny it. he was like, "ok, i give you a replacement," "i don't know what happened, maybe someone returned it, i don't know." yeah, right. i expressed my extreme irritation of having been ripped off to the tune of $380 with tax. he agreed to credit my card, which was a relief. but when i went over the credit receipt with a fine tooth comb to make sure it was legit, he became irritated. i had to remind him he had just sold me a piece of crap and tried to basically steal my money. and that i had spend an entire day lugging this home, via car service, busting my back trying to install it, then having to pay a car service to bring it back. nice way to spend a saturday.... uggh, apparently there are still crooks that somehow stay in business. lesson learned, i guess. don't buy from this rip off artist. go to a big box store instead. their prices are better anyway (wish i'd checked before hand). read more
