The service and the staff are awesome. I really liked the host - he's fun, inviting and loves dog. What more could you ask for in a host?! The food however, well , the cheeseburger was yummy but nothing to extravagant. I think the small burger was around 15 bucks and it didn't even include fries. The cheese cake was meh. Pretty bland and the chocolate sauce tasted cheap. I love all sweets but I gave this one up after a couple bites. I do like this place is dog friendly. So points to them on that. read more

Cute hipster bar m near Humboldt park with a good amount of vegetarian/vegan options! We ordered the beyond burger with regular cheese, fries, vegan taco, and the Buffalo vegan wings. We honestly really liked all of it! The burger is a lot bigger than I expected but perfectly seasoned and delicious! The fries were ok but come with a really good aioli. The beyond meat in the vegan taco was seasoned really well! It's a pretty small taco but If you come on a Tuesday they do taco Tuesday deals! We also got the vegan Buffalo wings which were SO good! I actually usually hate Buffalo because It's too tangy but this was the perfect amount of spicy/tangy and actually tasted like real chicken! I've only ever ordered delivery from The Moonlighter; and it's the same order each time. I order the vegan wings, Mesquite flavor, and the vegan special sauce. The Mesquite flavor is sooo good. Awesome chicken sandwich and French Fries. The chicken sandwich was very juicy and had very good coleslaw on it. The chipotle sauce on it was very tasty; not too spicy. I sat on the outdoor patio and this restaurant is very dog friendly. The servers were very quick with orders and drink refills. It's located in a nice area and for a holiday, the parking was easy. There are tons of trees and grass around, so easy for mid meal dog relief. The restaurant is located in a bustling area, so am sure it gets crowded during the dinner hours. On one of those evenings where I wanted to just lounge around and order without going anywhere, I ordered from 'The Moonlighter' via Yelp with Grubhub delivery. At the time, it was one of the few restaurants that offered delivery once I broadened my search to at least 3-miles out from my residence. On the menu, I was instantly drawn to the Vegan BBQ Burger because I admit it, I am weak when it comes to barbecue! There, I said it! And I must say that for it being a sports bar, the menu does appear to be vegan friendly with some of the items featured. It took forty-five minutes from the time my order was acknowledged by Grubhub to the arrival of it at my residence. A shout out to the Grubhub delivery driver for making that happen within a reasonable timeframe. Initially looking at the Vegan BBQ Burger, I said to myself, "That is huge!" because it appeared bigger than I imagined. As I took each bite of it, I had a smirk on my face. At one point, I could not help but shake my head and moan because it was so delicious! It was certainly enjoyed from the initial bite to the last, * chef's kiss *. Cool place that's like a hipster sports bar. It has a lot of the typical things you'll find, plus a few others. The Moonlighter is known for the burgers, with some available for both meat eaters and vegans. Fun but relaxing atmosphere. You can watch a game or participate in things like trivia. After looking up a few close by sports bars, we came here. It had a good crowd but we were still able to get bar seats. There's a few big TVs. Good place for watching a game. We were impressed by the menu. Healthy for a bar. Lots of stuff for vegans. Also drinks. Prices are about what to expect. It's about $12 for a cocktail. The one I got was the Fly By Night. It's Amaro Noveis, Bonded bourbon, Giffard Rhubarb Liqueur, and lemon. Some high end ingredients in there. Each of us got one of the vegan cheeseburgers. It's about $14 for these. These are pretty big though. I got the Vegan BBQ Cheeseburger. This is a Beyond Burger with barbecue sauce, vegan cheese, fried onions, and pickles. Filling burger. This makes a healthier yet tasty alternative to the meaty stuff. Have to hit this place up again. It's on Armitage closest to the California CTA station. The food is like pub food and it's not great but it's good and enjoyable with your drinks. I would say mostly the atmosphere is great and there's some free parking on the side streets and metered parking on the main streets. We ordered carry out once and food was good! We liked it so much that we decided to dine in about a week later. We were seated pretty quickly. That's about all that was quick. My Husband got his beer in a timely fashion. My margarita however took a very long time. Once they finally brought it to me I couldn't even drink it. It smelled and tasted like the cheapest tequila was used and besides that, it didn't taste like anything. Nowhere near what a margarita should be. I always feel bad returning food or drinks and try to "tough it out" and just eat/drink it but this time I just couldn't. It was gross. I asked for a piña colada instead that was poured out of a machine. Wasn't great either but definitely wasn't as bad as the "margarita". Stopped by the Moonlighter last night. It was a beautiful evening. Had to do a double cheeseburger. It was OK. I like the french fries more with that garlic aïoli. We had the chopped salad. It was pretty good. My date had the vegan wings she said they were okay but kind of dry and chewy. Sauce was good! Appreciate the options. I'm not a big fan of picnic tables, I like a back rest but I know most people like those. I probably wouldn't go back for the food but definitely for drinks. Large outdoor patio and doggo friendly. Good service, atmosphere is somewhat plain. Needs a design refresh. Add some greenery! Lots of great places surround this area. Dig their other bar Scofflaw and the burger there is much better! They also own Outside Voices, I've heard good things but haven't been. Love the upstairs at Slippery Slope, also same hospitality group, and the design there (upstairs) is awesome! It was my first time visiting The Moonlighter recently. I hard heard of it but never been here before. My brother, my cousin and I were in a mood for a nice burger and a beer and upon some Yelp search, this place showed up as one of the highly rated recommendations. Therefore, we decided to check out The Moonlighter. Upon arrival, the host checked our ID's and asked for a proof of vaccination. Also, it turned out that their inside dining area required a reservation which we didn't have. The alternative to that was that you could choose to seat in their outdoor heated tent area. We decided to do that. That area was cozy and comfy. The heaters were on. As we were given water and checking out the menu, the host that talked to us before came and told us that a table inside was available if we wanted to sit inside. We decided to move inside. Upon seated inside, we were greeted by our server and she asked us if we were ready to order drinks and/ or food. We ordered beer and shots, and some snacks (as their menu states). I got a Surly Helles Lager, my brother ordered a Pollyanna Hefe Weissen and my cousin ordered Snaggle Tooth Bandana IPA. For shots, I got one of their house tequila (don't remember the brand name) and the other two guys got shots of Jameson. For snacks, we ordered a large fries and roasted corn salad. We enjoyed our drinks. I liked my beer (it was my first time trying that one). The fries were nicely crisp from the outside and soft from the inside. It came with a housemade garlic aioli which was tasty. The corn salad was refreshing and very good. It had roasted corn & shishito pepper, cucumber, scallion, cilantro, vegan feta, and tajin. I definitely recommend it. For our entreé, we all ordered their double cheeseburger. My cousin and I got it with pickled jalapeños. Their double cheeseburger comes with double patty smashburger, american cheese, special sauce, griddled onion, and dill pickle (add fries for +$3). It was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend having it. The meat was cooked perfectly and it was a juicy burger. The buttery, savory taste was just flowing through my mouth like a river of umami. (Sorry if my analogy is incorrect). We liked the fries so much that we ordered them again and this time, we got them with a side of jalapeño ranch sauce. The sauce so good that I couldn't stop having it with my fries and even the cheeseburger. I enjoyed my visit to The Moonlighter. It's a nice, neighborhood sports bar with good food and drinks, and cozy & friendly atmosphere. They have plenty of TVs for viewing enjoyment. They have got fireplaces and heaters. Their service is good.. It's bit on the pricey side but not unreasonable or unexpected given that it's in the Logan Square area and a part of the Scoflaw group. Summer in Chicago means one thing - patio season! A major highlight here is the patio, making Moonligther a great choice for casual get togethers with friends. Appreciate the vegetarian and vegan options here, my experience is just for delivery/takeout. I enjoy the veggie wings but am pretty dismayed with the growing trend of charging $17-$18 for sandwiches or entrees without any sides. I've had the tots before and they don't travel well and also a bit pricey for what you get. The vegan chicken sandwich was too tough, either overcooked or undercooked from frozen. read more

A lot of times you see a $13 cheeseburger and are left to wonder what makes it a $13 cheeseburger. At the The Moonlighter, it's worth every penny. Honestly, I'm not sure where I've ever had a better burger. Every bite is dripping with their special sauce and I loved every ounce of it. We also ordered some cheese fries that apparently you can pay $2 for an extra cup of cheese with. I don't know where you would put the extra cheese because it came smothered with cheese. Overall, it was a great experience. Right now the seating is in tents outside and if you're further away from the heaters and it can be quite chilly. I'd recommend bundling up or bringing a blanket. read more

While they may not have the caliber of drinks you'll find at that esteemed establishment, what you will find are above average, great tasting takes on standard bar food fare along with a unique craft beer and cocktail list. The double patty cheeseburger and fries for $14 is one of the better deals you'll find for a burger of this quality in the area. Fries are hand cut and very well seasoned. I was heading for home, but it's a gorgeous afternoon I was mulling over stopping in at a place with outdoor seating for a drink. Spoiler alert: I'll never go to the The Moonlighter again. Everybody who's worked in a bar/restaurant knows there's almost always somebody surly who for some reason thinks customers are just a hassle...this is no exception. I passed by The Moonlighter a couple of blocks later and the patio looked great, so I decided to stop in. I was in a good mood, and psyched to end the day outside with a cold beer. When I walked up, I wasn't sure if I wanted to sit inside or outside because, though it was just 6 pm, the outside are was in shadow already. Plus, there are really large openings from the outside to the inside bar area, so it had an outdoor feel to it as well. The outside was largely empty, and there were plenty of open seats inside as well. I asked if it was ok if I just took a look inside before deciding, and the host said sure. I walked slowly in and stood just inside for a moment, checking out the vibe and seeing what soccer game was on the screens. It was really loud inside, and I didn't really like the music, so I stepped back outside thinking that would be nicer. Dangit, speakers out there right by the tables, and just as loud there. At that point a guy came up to me and asked rudely "Where are going?" (or it might have been "What are you doing?". I was so taken aback I don't even remember exactly. He was obviously very annoyed for some reason. I stood for a second, a bit stunned at how needlessly obnoxious he was, then said, "Trying to see if I want to sit inside or outside." He replied curtly "Well let them know!" and gestured to the host stand, and turned and stalked off as I said "I already talked to them", but he kept on going. Wow. At that point I didn't want to stay in either space, in or out. I let the hosts know what happened, and was frustrated when I said it. I did make clear that I wasn't upset at them, b/c I'd was pretty animated when I walked out. The reaction was basically...shrug. "Ok." There are TONS of great restaurants, bars, and breweries all over Logan/Palmer Square. Scofflaw, Giant, GO Tavern (one of my favorites), Parsons, Solemn Oath, Bungalow, C&J's Lounge, Weege's...and I could go on and on, all within 4 blocks. Pro: great outdoor space, and nice vibe, nice design/space, felt good inside and out. Pro: there are so many other places within a 2-5 minute walk, many with outdoor spaces. Con: the dude who decided to be an a*$, and host who likely was intimidated by said a*$, so pretended not to care. Con: Loud music, and not good. I know, very subjective...but I have a pretty wide range, lean toward garage rock & punk, but also like a lot of many other genres, and usually either like the music or don't notice, unless I really don't like it. Or it's very loud. Conclusion: it's not surprising that almost all the bars/restaurants nearby have a much higher rating than this place. In the hospitality world, customers matter. Go somewhere else, where you can actually enjoy it and not have a $hitty experience. read more

The food is very average especially the burger which doesn't make sense because Scofflaw has a top 5 burger in Chicago. The chefs might want to consider trading secrets. The drinks are aiight and the service has ranged from poor to just ok. The menu is vegetarian friendly so that's a plus for some. TV's are viewable from every seat indoors and the patio is nice when the weather cooperates. This all rounds out for a 3 star rating. read more

You know, my gut was telling me to take my group to another spot when we saw that they sell hard-shelled tacos. We also struggled to find something to eat; for 4 or 5 items per section, it really felt like options were minimal. We ended up staying and then realized that I should've trusted my gut. While we appreciated the prompt and kind service, the food was a complete 180. My dad's (overpriced for 4 ingredients) salad was 90% lettuce with a sprinkle of everything else. However, we do appreciate the kitchen accommodating him (since the "kitchen was slow") and subbing grilled chicken as breaded chicken is oddly the only type of chicken they offer. My boyfriend's buffalo chicken wrap (I'm no chef but breaded chicken for a buffalo wrap is weird) was mid, according to him. I cautiously went with the wings, and thankfully I got the jelly-textured smokey mesquite sauce on the side because it ended up tasting terrible. I asked for BBQ and that improved the the chicken by a little. My brussel sprouts? They roasted tf outta them. They were so thoroughly cooked that there was barely any brussel sprout left; soon as you took the first bite, the entire thing turned into burnt, flavorless dust in your mouth. We liked the service, food & music, but this will be the first and last time we come here until they improve or expand the menu. Honestly, there's nothing not to like about this joint. If you grew up in the 80s, you like that music; they have plenty of it. If you wish to have just a simple but good burger, you know the patty, the bun, a few pickles, some tomato, ketchup, a slice of lettuce; nothing fancy. The outdoor patio is spacious, and the yellow chairs are big and pretty comfortable considering. I love that they're dog friendly, and the 3 of us were seated almost immediately. Our server was friendly and attentive. Also brought out a water bowl for my little guy. They have an extensive beer menu and cocktails. I think it's cool they have an entire separate vegetarian menu, but it mimics the meat menu. We ordered garlic fries, street corn, cheese curds and beer cheese pretzel bites. The street corn was my favorite. The beer cheese was too salty for me. Garlic fries and cheese curds were both good. For our meal, I got the Cobb salad, and while it was a generous portion, $12 is a bit much when the burgers are just a couple $ more. My friends got the Coronado and Moonlighter burger- both are messy, but they seemed to enjoy it. I'm happy I finally made my way here- we will be back! read more

I came here on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. They have a huge outdoor patio and a bunch of big screen TVs inside that play a variety of different games. It took about 30-45 minutes for a group of 4 to be seated. We all came for the burgers. I tried the buffalo wings, garlic cilantro fries, the moonlighter burger and the pittsburgh burger. The wings were big, juicy and saucy. The fries are cut thin and smothered in a yummy garlic, cilantro and crumbled cheese mixture. Don't worry, they have plain fries if stanky fries aren't your thing. So, the burgers.. These are some damn messy burgers to eat, fair warning. The fries, slaw and ranch on the pittsburgh burger was definitely enticing, however, the moonlighter burger is where it's at. The simplicity of the toppings and perfect balance of flavors made the moonlighter burger very nostalgic for me. It was very delicious and messy and I loved every bit of it. By the time we got up to leave, the place was even more packed! I recommend getting there early if you want a little more elbow room.
