I had never been to eureka springs before but I was absolutely charmed when I went there! There are businesses located in cottages everywhere and it's so cute I thought my effusive heart was gonna explode. There are also many tall buildings with beautiful colors like a small town San Francisco! This restaurant was amazing from the food to the atmosphere. They have a self served coffee bar for $2.50 with a variety of brews. I got the hummus salad which was delicious and came with a whole wheat dinner roll on the side. It comes with A LOT of hummus though so I would ask for it on the side next time. I also would have liked there to be a little more light. It was such a cute cafe and I wanted to get some better pictures but it was pretty dark. I didn't get to try a dessert but they looked big and fabulous! The servers were also very kind and patient. My husband asked one of the hotel staff where he likes to eat breakfast and he recommended this place. We ordered the following items: 1. Veggies Grits 2. Blueberry pancake 3. Egg and veggies Burrito 4. Banana muffin 5. Coffee 6. Hot Chocolate I like the veggies grits and the banana muffin, but I didn't really care for the pancake. The coffee, I thought, was really good. I was not use to going into a building and having to go downstairs to get to the restaurant but it was like a hidden secret place which was fun. The staff were very quick to get us seated and were even welcome to the gentleman behind us with a group of 16! We were seated in the back away from the crowd and the room was very eclectic. It was raining outside so I was happy to get a hot chocolate which came in a large white cup, whipped cream and chocolate syrup drizzled on top. After stirring it all together I had a hard time stopping myself from finishing it so quickly but as you can see from the picture I failed. The croissant breakfast sandwich smelled amazing, tasted good, but came with way too much spinach, olives were odd, and wished they had better tomatoes, also the sausage I had ordered with it was very tough. My mother had ordered their blueberry pancakes which was very good and took a lot of me to not finish it all gone or I would have been way too full. I never eat at the same place twice on a vacation, but when my 2 BFFs & I were in Eureka Springs for a few days, we ate here 3 times. It was the first time I ate lunch there; the Greek chicken & the Grownup Grilled Cheese were both incredible. The raspberry cheesecake...WHOA. Breakfast is awesome. I could never eat all of the Greek omelette & the scrumptious garlic cheese grits, so on our final day in town I ventured to see if they would put all the Greek omelette toppings onto the garlic cheese grits, and BEHOLD! They did! It was awesome. The coffee is great. I snagged a bag of the Costa Rica to bring home with me & I'm still working on it. The wait staff was always awesome, with a huge shout-out to Caraugh (am I spelling that right?). I would recommend this place to anyone, & I will definitely never visit Eureka Springs without eating here. Protip: eat at one of the coffee table/couch combos! Our waitress told us you haven't been to Eureka until you've eaten at a coffee table while sitting on a couch. Anytime we visit Eureka overnight, the Mud Street is a must for breakfast. Great omelettes. Voted for best coffee, they have a full espresso bar. Its known as "Underground Eureka" as it is located beneath the busy main street. The building was built in 1888, and at that time was street level. There is a spring that runs underneath that in the late 1800's kept flooding the street, thus the name "Mud Street". The street has since been built up, putting the cafe a level down a flight of stairs. They have wonderful old limestone walls, large wooden beams, and stained glass lighting. The centerpiece of the dining room is a turn of the century oak bar with beveled mirrors. They have wonderful local art on our walls, oak tables and chairs, victorian carpet and a cozy sitting area with magazines and newspapers. Be sure to make this a stop for breakfast. They also serve homeade desserts the evenings of weekends. Breakfast is 8-11am. Lunch isnt half bad either. read more

First off you have to pay for parking, I'm assuming they go by the honor system and I only had a $50 bill so I had to go inside to change and I told her I only needed to pay this then I would be in with 5 people, she said that would be fine. I went out to pay the parking which was a sketchy looking metal box from 50 years ago another car just pulls up and walks inside (obviously didn't pay for parking) they go inside and then we end up right behind them, the lady seats them immediately then looks at me and says sorry it's going to be about 20 mins... I'm like I just told you I was coming in with 5 before they came in and she's like yes I know I'm sorry you'll have to wait now. We waited for a few minutes and got annoyed and just left. We weren't sure where we were going to eat in Eureka Springs while we were there, but when we got to town we stopped at the Art Colony and got to talking with some of the artists there. One of them mentioned that we needed to go to Mud Street Cafe the next morning (Monday) because they would be close the following two mornings of our visit. We were so grateful for the recommendation. Why? Because they served some of the best pancakes we've ever had - not hyperbole. They say they have some special recipe...well whatever they're doing, it's works. We also had the garlic cheese grits which I had to try - they were good but not needed with the pancakes. The waitress told us they were also known for their omelettes, so we ordered one with sausage and cheese - it really hit the spot, with generous chunks of house made sausage. We had already caffeinated ourselves at our motel that morning so we did not try any of the coffee, but from what I gather theirs is a step up from the traditional breakfast diner cup of Joe. Definitely recommend this place to anyone and would be my first breakfast if I'm ever back in that neck of the woods again. read more

I had the Veggie Hashbrowns, which was chunks of fried potatoes covered in fresh steamed veggies, olives, salsa and cheese. I got a half order, which covered my entire plate so it was definitely plenty. Very tasty and filling. A touch of spice because of the Cavendar's seasoning on the potatoes. Love love! They serve really pretty coffees that look like desserts with sky high whipped cream. Mud St. Cafe is out of this world! Best coffee I've ever had after a day of hiking/camping in Lost Valley. Staff was attentiive..breakfast was good with killer hash browns, fluffy scrambled eggs and home-made sausage. My friend had the Alpine Mocha drink which was heavenly. It's downstairs in what was once the first floor but since the street has been heightened over the last century, it's a ways down. Don't think it's wheelchair accessible. The owners daughter..I think Katie, was veerry nice..kept running into her at different venues the rest of the day. She told me to move there. I'm a sucker for coffee and sweet girls! Think I drank an entire pot of coffee along with my Mud Street Cafe breakfast.. I was happy, full and feeling a bit zippy for hours afterward. Our server was great, super friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and at a perfect temperature. The building itself is quaint and quirky. Definitely cute and the staff are very hard working. After reading reviews, we decided to make this our breakfast stop for our weekend trip to Eureka Springs. Everything was fine, nothing special or great, and honestly a little disappointing. I got 2 eggs over easy (pretty good), three pieces of bacon (also pretty good), with toast (it's toast), and "cottage fries" which were the most disappointing part. I love all things potatoes and these were just not done well or cooked evenly causing weird texture and cold/uncooked parts. My husband got the mushroom and spinach 2 egg omelette. Again, nothing that great, especially given the price, the portion and the wait. During our wait, we treated ourselves to the self serve coffee. I partially picked this place because I wanted a good cup of coffee. I tried all 3 caffeinated varieties and non were very flavorful. We also treated ourselves to a white mocha and mocha. They are huge and cute but are a sugar and whipped cream overload - I'm not sure there was much espresso in there. I say all this as someone who has extra sweet drinks from sbx regularly. This place feels a little like a tourist trap, and as long as you go in knowing that and don't have higher expectations, you will be fine. All of the staff were definitely hustling. There was a long wait for our food but it was a really busy Saturday. I have come to eat at the Mud Street Cafe for years and was never dissatisfied until today. Absolutely bad experience. We where 3 people in our party had to wait 1 hour and 25 min for our meals. Then we ask for a cup and a small container to go for leftovers and a huge Cockroach jumped from the cup. The waitress graciously took a drink off our bill. Lawd, I usually leave a huge tip but after loosing my food in the toilet. I did not wanted to pay at all. Mud Street Café, not to be confused with Mud Street Annex. I believe the main difference is the annex serves breakfast all day and is much smaller. Breakfast ends at 11am at the Cafe. Upon arrival you walk downstairs off the main drag. It's a very interesting choice of decor, not exactly pleasing to the eye which can lead to doubt about the food. Now to the Food, It was pretty darn good. I ordered a Muddy Bloody Mary, they use Zing Zang mix and I asked for Goose. The rim of the glass is lipped with Old Bay Seasoning. They also offer a moonshine version of the Bloody Mary. My husband and I spilt a bowl of the Beef Stew, soup of the day. It was spot on. The beef used was prime rib, it melts like butter in your mouth. The soup is mostly meat and potatoes with a few other veggies here and there. I had a BLT, lots of bacon, crisp lettuce and tomato. Condiments are on the table, mayo, mustard and ketchup. It came served on a toasted grain bread of some sort , chips and a pickle on the side. YUM! My husband had the Turkey sandwich, warm homemade turkey (no package meat here), cheddar, lettuce, tomato and a side of special mustard. Also accompanied by pickles and chips. He said it was great.
