Shrimp and Sausage Etoufee
Dakota K.

The food was amazing, from appetizer to dessert. Seafood fondue - 10/10, etoufee - 10/10, beignets - 10/10. Music was also great! Waitstaff was very attentive and helpful! Honestly, they're a leading contender for the Golden Yogi. Yak Yogi out

The environment was nice and clean, the waitstaff was even friendly and attentive. On the downside the food was overpriced and spiced (as pictured) for the portion and extremely salty. It was not what we expected it to be. I continue to do my own boils at home for much less and seasoned the way we like it. Thanks for the friendly service.

Look close... 2 clams each, 1.5 shrimp... THE REST WAS FREAKIN' NOODLES!!! THIS WAS $21.99. WHAT A RIP OFF! LOOK AT THE SMALL SERVING...

We ate here for our Anniversary. Atmosphere was nice. We had never been here... Ordered drinks. We were disappointed. Could barely taste any liquor, and they were right at $10. Each!! Next, the food was good but: HIGH PRICED...SMALL PORTION!!! Our Anniversary started here for $80., and we walked out feeling ripped off!!!

Mixed Seafood Boil

Food was great! Had a dozen raw oysters and a margarita off the Happy Hour menu then did the seafood boil. Great flavor! Our waitress was very attentive! Place seems a little off the busier side of corpus but you should definitely give it a try if you like Cajun food! It's our second time and we plan on going back!

Everything about the menu layout, decoration, and dishes makes one feel like this is an upscale venue. Once you sit down, talk with the wait staff, and try the food, however, it feels more like a local eatery trying to figure out it's direction. There weren't many options for wine drinkers and the main bartender encouraged me to take the more economical route. ("I mean, you can get two glasses for the price of one if you get the canned wine.") I'm not pretentious about wine, but I've yet to have anything great that's come out of a can and was rather apprehensive. After a bit of deliberation, I decided to go with his recommendation, the Porch Pounders Red Blend, and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the seafood boil with king crab + shrimp, hot. Instead of four corn cobs, I asked to substitute two with andouille sausage. The bartender had to check with management, but it was approved. When my boil arrived, it was accompanied by the usual server ware (see picture). After a few bites, I didn't find it anywhere near hot, so the 'tender brought me a small cup of the spicy seasoning (Slap Yo Momma products). When we were talking about my seafood boil choices, I must have missed the component where king crab was $25 for HALF a lbs...so my bill was significantly higher than I thought. I didn't raise a stink about it because it was a business meal, but I'd be cautious when adding ingredients. I also asked the bartender if the shrimp were head-on, to which he said they were, but arrived without heads. Overall I was happy with my wine and meal. I agree with other Yelpers that Mudbugs is a bit more pricey than other venues in the area (even without my +$25 snafu). I understand why Mudbugs is in the cajun/creole culinary genre, but I'd label it more aspiring. All that being said, I will most likely revisit Mudbugs when I'm back in the area. I'd love to try other dishes on the menu!

My first time there and I feel indifferent. The food was not bad but a little too pricey for what you get. Just went there again 22 May 2020. I ordered the pasta with everything. Got everything with a tiny bit of pasta. Take a look!!

Couldn't finish it. Really tried tho
Richard W.

I would not recommend the shrimp and grits. I had them tonight and they were so so, so. I taste it no cheese in the grits as advertised. The shrimp were just shrimp not bbq, just shrimp with a little hot flavor. I'm glad they got away fm the grit cake but this shrimp and grits are pretty bad for $18. The shrimp and the grits need more love in my opinion. I still like this place but not this dish. Did they change chefs? I couldn't finish it, so not good.

One cluster order of snow crab: very old crab with heavy sea taste and the meat within very salty. Inedible.

From very slow very poor service to inedible food...was shocking this is the creation of Chef Lee who's Rock n Rolls sushi is excellent in food, service and ambience. Order at your own risk. Second time we've tried this place and both experiences the same: poor (old seafood/over-salty) food, poor service, terrible seats with difficulty maneuvering chairs and your own legs to under the table. The holes in center of table - great idea. Amazing that we were served crab without anything but a fork...they said they were "out of sizzors!" (Ten other people there...no crab cracker/sizzors). Two strikes: we won't make this mistake again. Horrible disappointment. Maybe they're just waiting for the lease to run out before they close idk‍ sad. Very sad.

We came in from Houston and it was around 1130 at night and we were hungry so we stopped to eat there everything

Very innovative twist on traditional Cajun food favorites. Great atmosphere and service! Hidden gem in Corpus Christi. The Cajun pasta and stuffed avocado for your next date night

Lively late in the evening cold beer and great atmosphere so far.

Delicious foods, great atmosphere and amazing bar. Comfy casual. Great boil pot. Cold beer and staff are great. Will certainly be back.

This place is a gem. We were impressed by the hospitality and the food. Read the help reviews and had to come this visit to Corpus Christi. The review were spot on. We will be back!

She said yes any one of these; while pointing at the menu board. So I said okay give me the broccoli soup. Then she added up the meals and gave me the total of $40.14!!! I questioned $10.99 and $11.29 for meals was roughly $25 the two teas couldn't have been an additional $15???? So I asked for the receipt...see picture attached. All the add ons I am one not to complain about food but the quality of this was no where near worth that price. I don't mind paying but I think the price should reflect product. The club pathetically had very little meat and you could take 2-3 simple bites of each and you're done. The broccoli soup come to find out wasnt part of the McAlisters Club so I got charged for that. Plus, my wife's salad was considered premium although offered as the choose 2...so extra and more extra...so for $40 we probably were better off going elsewhere.

For mainland I'd give it a 3.5. First place I have tried in Texas but will keep searching for better before I consider coming back. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Served chipotle style, build as you go. Other then that, that's the extent of your interaction. The ambiance was nice, quiet, relaxing, with cafeteria vibes. Nothing super fancy but it was clean. Pretty dead for 1230 in the afternoon. Pros: -Lots of toppings. They mix them for you. -Milk Tea also served (a lot of options for toppings as well) Cons: -The imitation crab they use is not the typical crab salad I'd typically see in a poke bowl. It does not carry the sweet, meaty flavor of the stringier version. It resembles the imitation crab you buy in a can. -The flavor was off. I could not pinpoint it but it was kind of bland, slightly fishy/metallic tasting. It could have been the imitation crab. Not sure. -Bubble tea was not my fav. I just got the original but that could have been a poor choice on my part. -The 3 protein bowl with a milk tea came out to $18 and change. Seemed like a lot for a poke bowl/drink for the quality.

My parents used to take me to the original location back in the 80s, and it was always a great experience. Back then you stood in line, ordered at the counter, and had more of a self-service experience. I think I still prefer that style over the newer sit-down service, but that may just be nostalgia talking. My son and I stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon while we were out around town digging through vinyl shops. He immediately requested Wallbanger's. Our waitress, Fantasia, was great and pointed out they had a $5 half-order appetizer special during happy hour. We started with mozzarella sticks and chipotle BBQ boneless wings. The mozzarella sticks do seem a little different from what I remember at the original spot, but these were still fresh, hot, gooey, and really good. The marinara they serve with them is great. The boneless wings were solid too, and their chipotle BBQ sauce is one of my favorites. My son ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with that same chipotle BBQ sauce. The sandwich was huge and he ended up taking half of it home to finish later. I went with the Uncle Sam burger, which is a classic burger setup with bacon added. It was very good. Their sidewinder fries are always on point. One thing that deserves special attention here is the bun. They make their buns in house and they're excellent. Fresh, soft, and full of flavor. It's not just something holding the burger together. The bun is part of what makes the whole burger experience work. This place has been part of my family's routine for decades now. I hope it sticks around long enough for a fourth generation of my family to enjoy it.

The restaurant is located in a strange space right where Airline and Cimarron intersect; it's a bit hard to find. The inside is painted bright sea blue with nautical decorations with about 20 tables. The menu contains mostly seafood but some chicken and steak selections. We ordered fried grouper/shrimp platter with okra and cole slaw and grilled shrimp with rice pilaf and mixed vegetables. We were given a bowl of fresh potato chips, warm from the fryer - they're good, but I would suggest salt and seasonings, maybe even a sauce for dipping as they are bland. Bland seemed to be the cuisine of the day. Our fish and shrimp were not seasoned very well, and needed more salt/pepper just to be palatable. The tartar sauce is very tasteless as is the cole slaw made with mainly red cabbage. The okra was fine, the hushpuppies were forgettable and would benefit greatly from a little jalapeno, onion, corn or pepper. Grilled shrimp was good except for the seasoning and the pilaf was okay, but who raves about rice pilaf? Steamed veggies (yawn) were yucky. Even a cheese sauce or butter sauce would have improved the flavor. The portions of grouper on the fish/shrimp platter were tiny - about the size of a half dollar and there were only three of them. At the price you would expect a little more. The shrimp on that platter were large but overcooked. Everything tasted fresh - - no complaints there. The service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is clean inside and has a full bar. Total for two platters, two teas was $46.88 without tip. With just a few tweaks this restaurant would be five stars.
