Our server seemed to be having an off day, and the neglect was noticeable enough that a neighboring table -- served by a different waitress -- actually flagged it down and had their server step in to take our drink orders after we'd been waiting so long. Throughout the meal there was ongoing confusion and delays, and at one point I had to get up and grab my own silverware. The food itself was good, but it arrived lukewarm to cold. I didn't bother saying anything because I couldn't face waiting even longer. Overall, a pretty miserable experience -- hopefully an off night, because the kitchen clearly has potential. Restaurant uses mostly disposable dishware and cups. Sometimes shrink refills would come in a single used cup. It's not a fan of how much unnecessary waste was produced. The food was pretty good. I was apprehensive since celiac disease can be pretty tricky at places like this. The potato skins were good and I didn't get sick from cross contamination. They had very limited staff but our waiter/bartender was on it. He was attentive despite the place getting steadily more busy throughout the time we were there. I went with a group from our church for lunch on a Tuesday. Our party of 20 was seated all together in a nice side room, and we had multiple servers. All the food was great, and everyone was pleased. I had the combo scallops and shrimp fried with mixed veggies, it was delicious. We expected the high prices for seafood and a mandatory high tip because of the large party. I haven't been here since 2020 or possibly 2021, so I decided it was time to stop back by. Interior and Exterior appear to be the same - so I'll just hit on Food and the things that have changed. Customer Service Server who took my phone order was pleasant and efficient. Hostess was a bit lackluster, but bartender and servers were friendly and upbeat. Price / Value Prices have increased just like every other restaurant, but nothing too insane. So there are still plenty of affordable options. Food I decided to try something completely different this visit. I ordered a fried pork chop sandwich with crinkle fries. I also go the bull bites appetizer and added a side of the steamed veggies. The menu says they have a grilled pork chop sandwich with peppers and onions ... and they have a Big Daddy pork chop sandwich that the menu described as 'fried.' I'm glad I asked because the pepper coated pork chop sandwich that I'd had previously (see old photos) is actually the Big Daddy. I also have a picture of the grilled pork chop sandwich. That particular sandwich has pork chops grilled on the flat top, with raw peppers on it. The sandwich I ordered tonight is not actually on the menu. They battered and fried two thin-cut pork chops and placed it on a buttered, toasted hoagie roll and at my request, topped it with lettuce and tomato. It was very good. I inquired what type of steak they used in the bull bites (tenderloin), I requested medium temperature. I also asked what veggies were included in the steamed veggies (yellow zucchini, zucchini, onions and broccoli). Most of the bull bites were very tender and they were seasoned well, but a few of them were rubbery. The veggies were cooked to to perfect consistency - no mushy pieces at all and I was happily surprised to discover no broccoli, despite the verbal description, because I can't have broccoli - lol). I wish I'd had a side of yellow rice or wild rice because this would have been an amazing meal. Lol. Overall Overall, I still like this place. I'll definitely stop back in a few times before I leave town and I think I'm going to try the fish tacos next. read more

In Darien GA, Tony and I found this small restaurant called Mudcats Bar & Grill. We opted to sit inside the porch area which is very nicely AC'd. Tony had a couple Budweiser Bottles at $3 each, and I had a Half-Half Iced Tea with Lemon and Lime. Tony had a Crab Cake Sandwich with Onion Rings with a Remoulade Sauce. I had 2 Mahi-Mahi Tacos that was extremely great!!! Definitely would order those again. Tony's crab sandwich was okay!! A little mushy in the middle!!! Once we were inside we realized there was a nice crowd.. not sure where they were parked...there wasn't many cars outside. It is a smaller restaurant but they also have outdoor seating. It was rainy when we arrived so we sat on the porch area. Food was nice, burger rare as requested, fish taco only had 1 very small piece of fish on each taco and the shrimp po'boy only had 6 shrimp on the bun.. Flavors were good , service was perfect. Absolutely love this place. Been to it twice. My friend that took me here the first time, raved about it. We went, and they were so real with their suggestions, top tier customer service, they have a way of treating everyone like family or a close friend. I haven't been to a place where I've laughed as hard as I did, in god knows how long. We were wondering what we wanted for dinner, and I was craving their gator, (FIRE) so we went back. And were greeted with people who remembered us! And it was so dope, I never had to ask for another beer, he already had one in hand asking me if I wanted another, and that right there is so rare. The food was amazing haven't tried a thing here that I didn't love. And it's nothing short of a good time and great food. It's all about Kelsey! Okay, we were on vacation in St Simon's Island and saw this place mentioned as having good food. We decided to take the drive up (really easy and quick drive honestly). The restaurant is located in Two-Way Marina and shares the parking lot. It was raining, so we sat at the "indoor patio" - at least I think that is what the hostess called it. We were promptly visited by one of the best servers we have ever had, Kelsey. It's All About Kelsey! To say this lady is knowledgeable and good at her job is a sincere understatement. She took our drink orders and offered us the chance to order appetizers. We decided to try the crab balls. They came out not too long after our drinks arrived. They warn you on the menu that if you are in a hurry, don't come there; they make everything fresh and it is worth the reasonable wait time. The crab balls were delicious. It was time to order our food, and this is when Kelsey began to shine. She listened to all our questions and orders and then went to work offering options, making changes to the way we ordered and giving us her honest opinion on our selections. She was amazing! She changed our orders around so that we ended up with so much food (at a better price) that there was no way we would have been able to finish it all. It's All About Kelsey! Food: Crab balls appetizer, fried shrimp, fried fish, scallops (my daughter qualified these as the best she's ever had), gator bites (scrumptious), hush puppies, crab cake, more fried shrimp, onion rings, and mac-n-cheese. I may have forgotten something, it was so much food. Every single thing on the plate was delicious. The standouts were the scallops and the gator bites. The fish was great and the crab cake was so good. There really wasn't a bad thing on the plate. The sauces - oh the sauces. They serve a wonderful spicy ranch with the gator bites, a delicious tartar sauce with the other seafood, an amazing "boom boom" sauce, the superb slaw sauce (they bring the cole slaw dry and the sauce on the side, so you can mix it to your liking - what???) and the star of the food show (this will sound nuts but stay with me) - the house made cocktail sauce. It is the best I have ever had. I kept saying I could make an outstanding Bloody Mary with it, or just drink it straight. As good as all those things were, It's All About Kelsey! I cannot speak more highly of the outstanding service we received from this delightful lady. She was friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable, and funny (she almost made me cry when she came out with our food, showed it to us, let us smell it, and then told us it was not ours, that she just wanted us to see what we were getting). I've been to Mudcat's many times and it's generally a fairly busy place with a nice view. The parking area is shared with Two Way Fish Camp and the restaurant is also accessible by boat. It's a bit of a drive if you are coming from the interstate so if you don't see it immediately, just keep going. The service was a little slow but the back of the menu tells patrons to be patient since everything is made to order. Again, it was also very busy. We ordered the fried mushrooms, shrimp po boy, mahi tacos and Reuben. Every thing was great. Once things got rolling, the service was good and our waitress was really sweet. The price for three people was really reasonable. Now for the elephant in the room....the statue of the boy that is fishing. Notice I didn't use color in that sentence. We drove the so called coast of Georgia and pulled off on the causeway to a two way fish camp- Mudcat Charlies. We entered the bar to check out the local life and had shrimp cocktail, bloody mary and beer. We met the owner and his wife and some of their staff. All were friendly and greeted us with gratitude for stopping in. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and plump and the cocktail sauce was just right. We visited the marina and the restaurant owner was also the owner of the marina. We had a delightful time chatting with them all and really enjoyed the food. Very nice quaint place. I have been to Mudcat Charlie's many times on the way to or from St. Simons Island. The food is always good but the service is very hit or miss. I stopped by yesterday around 3:00pm so I didn't anticipate much of a wait. We were quickly seated near a very large party on the porch and greeted reasonably fast. That's basically where the "service" ended. I had downed by soft drink and asked for a re-fill but the waitress never came back. We finally left after the guests next to us (who came in well after we did) were served by a different server. "You won't believe your tastebuds!" Well the Crabstew was as remembered, excellent! The "coldslaw" Ha! A handful of raw cabbage from a bag and thrown in a bowl. Everything in strofoam plates and bowls. Fried oysters, soaking in oil, boiled shrimp, undercooked, fried shrimp, onion rings, hush puppies just ok. Granted, staffing is strained in all positions and it's the Holidays. So disappointing! The waterfront scenery is great but it's free. A beautiful time at nearby Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge not to be missed, even with the bird migration and population out of season. read more

The prices are cheap too!! Our server Allison was amazing even though we had to wait a while for the food. We returned on Sunday and had a different waitress and it was not a good experience. I had high hopes for this place as I drove a little out of the way to get there. My dining partner and I ordered a tuna appetizer, however our waitress forgot to enter it. We did get it free because of this, but not until after we had eaten our meal. The tuna was supposed to be seated and served on a slaw. The tuna was seared, but lacked any flavor and was warm enough that the slaw just became a soggy, warm, flavorless mess. I ordered a seafood combo with fried oysters, blackened scallops, stir fried vegetables, and sweet potatoes fries The scallops were flavorful, but a bit small. The oysters were also on the small side and soggy. The fries were soggy and not cooked well. The vegetables appeared to be steamed or boiled rather than stir fried. This place came highly recommended by a local tour guide. It's nestled in between a small apartment type complex, store, and boat dock. Our waitress was very nice and patient. We ended up ordering alligator bites, chicken finger plate, and steak entrees. The steaks come with salad or slaw. I assumed the slaw was another side in addition to my baked potato. It actually came out right after the appetizer. I'm guessing that it was my "salad". I've never had coleslaw as a "salad" at a restaurant before but ok. Also, I've never had plain coleslaw with the sauce on the side. (Let me add that I'm a North Carolinian, if that helps. Lol) our coleslaw is different. I requested my steak well down. It was....for the most part. There were a few areas that were pinker than I'd like. There was also more fat than I would've liked. I ate about 1/2 of it before calling it quits. I did enjoy my baked potato. It was cooked perfectly! I enjoyed being able to watch 2 people outside cut and clean the fish. As well as taking in nature itself.
