1 Star I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had here. I was next door picking up a load in my semi truck, so I called ahead and ordered fish tacos. I was told it would be about 25 minutes, which was perfectly fine because my pickup was taking around 40 minutes anyway. When I walked into the restaurant, I wasn't acknowledged by anyone. I stood there for a long time and had to ask multiple employees about my order because nobody seemed interested in helping me. The owner/manager never once spoke to me or asked what I needed. After waiting another 20 minutes, the cashier finally came over so I could pay for my food. Then I had to wait another 30 minutes before the food finally came out. After all that waiting, the fish tacos were cold. I asked for a refund, and unfortunately that became another ordeal. The owner didn't know how to process the refund through the register, and after waiting yet another 25 minutes, I finally told them to just give me cash so I could leave. From start to finish, this experience was a complete mess. Poor communication, no sense of urgency, no customer service, and cold food after an extremely long wait. I understand restaurants get busy, but completely ignoring customers and serving cold food after well over an hour is unacceptable. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I can't recommend this place based on my experience. read more

The food was pretty good but we never did get what we ordered. I ordered blackened flounder fillets with two sides--side salad and sweet potato fries. My husband ordered fried shrimp and blackened oysters with same two sides. First food that came out--fried whole flounder and fried shrimp/oysters, sides were correct. Second time order was brought out--blackened whole flounder, blackened shrimp/oysters. Never got drinks right. When finally got the bill, we were charged for two whole flounder and two of the included side salads. What a fiasco. No more visits for us. The two stars because the food was pretty good. read more

My wife & I took a little trip up from St. Simons to check out The Fish Dock for lunch. It's about a 50 minute ride if you take Hwy 17. Haley was our server and she did an awesome job in making sure our beers were cold & full as well as asking if we were enjoying our meal. We started out with the peel & eat shrimp. It was a bit different than what I was expecting. The order was more like a BBQ shrimp style. Meaning the shrimp were in a sauce (Old Bay, Butter & Tabasco) more like what you get in New Orleans. The flavor was great but be prepared to use napkins!! For our entrees I had 3 fish tacos (blackened mahi mahi) along with sweet potato fries. Excellent! My wife had the fish bites and asked for mahi mahi ($4 up charge) which were cooked just right along with French fries. She said her food was very good. The place is right on the water with excellent views and has that shabby chic feel. Lunch on a Thursday afternoon was not busy but cool to experience. I would say on a Friday or Saturday night this place is busy!! I will definitely be coming back and I'll bring some of our friends from Atlanta too!! Thanks for a nice day trip! read more

The Fish Dock Bar & Grill must be testing a new concept: "extreme intermittent fasting." We were the THIRD table seated at opening and somehow managed to experience a full work shift before seeing food. An hour and 45 minutes for appetizers that never appeared. Two hours for meals that still weren't complete. At that point, we weren't dining -- we were aging in real time. The server finally admitted our ticket had been crumbled up like a rejected lottery ticket. Then the manager came over trying to say it was just "pushed to the side" until we corrected her and suddenly the story changed faster than their excuses. Offering to comp appetizers that never even made it to the table was the culinary equivalent of offering sunscreen after the ship sinks. Meanwhile, tables around us were getting food while ours apparently got lost somewhere between the kitchen and the Bermuda Triangle. When food finally did arrive after TWO HOURS, meals were still missing. We left the food sitting there because at that point it was less about hunger and more about principle. No food, no service, no accountability, no payment. Absolutely unacceptable on every level. If you're looking for dinner and a hostage situation, this is your spot. read more

Husband had the shrimp plate & I had the salad & baked potato. He said everything was great of what he ordered & my baked potato was pretty good too. Only thing I would change, is the potato seemed a lil over cooked. I like to eat the skin of the potato and this one I was not able to. Great salad, flavor and great service, beautiful atmosphere. This restaurant is really off the beaten path deep into a neighborhood. The parking lot is in front on dirt and rocks. The restaurant is huge inside. Lots of outdoor seating as well. It is a very old seafood restaurant. The service was good. However, my server had pimple patches that were peeling off her face. Pimple patches should be worn at night while sleeping not during the day at work. I was almost afraid the patch was going to fall off her face into our food or drinks. The view of the water is beautiful. It is relaxing to sit outside in a netted covered room while viewing the water. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are disgusting!! The food is very bland. It seems this is more of a local only type of restaurant. We felt out of place. read more

I ended up here on accident, I thought I was going to a different seafood joint, but this turned out to be a very pleasant surprise... Located way out of the way, but not necessarily from civilization, this seafood restaurant had that rustic, greasy-spoon look to it that I gravitate towards. I showed up early, very early, but was warmly greeted and seated in no time. Their menu is short and sweet, and to the point - ranging from sandwiches to soups, to salads, and to dinner items - it was not an overwhelming menu. I chose the fish special (a type of fish I never had before but just can't remember what it was) to go with a cup of their stew, cooked veggies, and sweet potato fries. All of it was delicious. For dessert, I had their Pecan Pie which was, by far, the best Pecan Pie I have ever had. I would make the trek back there *just* for that pie, it was that good... Service was friendly, attentive, and patient with all my queries about the menu and the place - I was well taken care. This is one of my worst experiences in all the time we have visited this area. We had reservations and our table had a great view . After that it was all downhill. We arrived at 6:30 but our server informed us we could not place our order till the band started playing at 7. We finally got our food lounger around 7:45. My fried flounder was overcooked and dry. I had asked for a baked potato with butter and sour cream and got neither. My wife and friends meals were not much better. Our server never came back to check on us. Then it went downhill, hardly anyone in the restaurant and we waited 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and then only after they overheard one of our party question should we leave? Received beverages 20 minutes after arrival 10 minutes later the server came to take our order, 15 minutes later after other customers who were seated after us have already received drinks and their food , our appetizer arrived only one in our party got one , They did ask the server to bring it out first , we guessed they figured everyone else would wait for the entrees as well, the crab stew they said was very good and tasty. We all wished we had gotten it but they shared the oyster crackers with us ! So 20 minutes later the food arrived the shrimp were good grits a little stiff broccoli was good, Cole slaw fresh. So we paid at 7:55 and left Not really sure what was going on different servers were carrying food out to the tables around us the whole time we just had the one server only one person got a refill . I cannot believe this place isn't packed. The seafood is fresh and expertly prepared. We ate here several times over our week stay and had several different hostesses and servers...every single one was NICE, knowledgeable and efficient. On two occasions we watched dolphins from our table. It was amazing to see them swim upstream with their babies, spinning, blowing and just living life. We had shrimp, oysters, trigger fish, crab stew and clams over the course of our visit. The sides varied but everything was fresh and expertly prepared. The cost was on par with other restaurants in the area but they were far more generous. We truly couldn't eat everything between the two of us. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! read more

This place is GREAT but you need to know where you are and that the best thing about the place is its authenticity instead of judging it by your suburban Red Lobster mentality. I'm not a local but I have been living in the area long enough to appreciate the wonderful uniqueness of the Fish Dock. First - it is all FRESH! Local catch comes off their boats every day. They do grilled seafood well. Just remember that fried is the local favorite and the best way to enjoy seafood that is not "touched up" in some other way. Fried does not mean battered in heavy fish and chips batter. It means a light crust of flour and sometimes cornmeal. I grew up cooking most of my own seafood and this place is very authentic in it's treatment of low country seafood. The crab soup is excellent. The hushpuppies are worth the trip. These are basically fried cornbread so it you do not want fried cornbread, do not order them. When I was a child, I was a hush puppy critic and decided real hushpuppies had onion; anything without onion was a corn dodger. Now I'm not so critical, but these are so good that I save up my calories for the week to eat them. Onion or not. Better than dessert. I get the whole fried flounder. If you do not know how to eat a whole fried fish, flounder is the place to start. It's easy to do. You eat off the top down to the bone. I was taught to pull the bone out to eat the rest but now I've learned that most people just flip the fish over and eat the other side. Maybe I learned it that way because I was a kid (eating whole fish since I can remember). I grew up eating North Carolina Calabash Seafood. Then got an eating disorder and only ate broiled seafood. And I love all kinds of seafood cooked all kinds of ways. I still only eat fried seafood occasionally, but a trip to The Fish Dock is worth it. You can not miss with the fried seafood no matter what you order. If you like broiled or grilled seafood try the catch of the day. The sides can be disappointing. Not bad but not great. You might get to try a fish you have never heard of. I've had several that were new to me. But I always return to fried whole flounder. If you are looking for a gourmet fish experience with sauces and special sides, then this is not the place. If you want to experience a historical fish restaurant - classic 1970s fish restaurant on the river with shrimp boats nearby, with good fried seafood and unusual and unique fresh fish choices that are good fried or grilled, and you love traditional hushpuppies, then this is the place. It's worth it just for the cultural experience. But if you want Red Lobster then keep driving. read more

Glad they are back after shutting down. The food was right back to the 5-star standard they had prior to closing for take-out only. Service was outstanding and attentive without being overbearing. Our drinks were full the entire time and our waitress even suggested condiments since there were none on any tables for safety purposes. I had the prime rib cooked rare and it was amazing. Did not come with au jus but I personally don't use any (and it didn't need it). My friend had the burger with sidewinder fries. He love the fries. This was our first time eating out during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was out of necessity since we were on the road. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how the entire waitstaff wore masks and each of the tables were covered in brown paper - which they changed after every meal. They offered sanitizer, sanitized laminated menus cleaned after every party. Plastic cups and utensils and more than adequate spacing between parties. We had more than 20 feet of distance separated us from other parties. Now for the food. We started off with the Bobby fries which were large thick spiral cut potatoes with cheese and bacon and a tasty ranch dipping sauce. My hubby had fried grouper, a baked potato and broccoli, I had grilled shrimp, a baked potato and mixed vegetables. We both had our standard Arnold Palmers to drink. The food was very good with healthy portion sizes. Well worth the price. Our total came to about $65 without the tip. The decor is slightly dated, think fishing shanty but it sits right on the water with a pleasant view of boats passing by. There is no paved parking only dirt lots with limited parking. Get in where you can fit in. Our waitress and hostess were pleasant and offered great menu advice. We rewarded her service with a hefty tip. By the way, this restaurant is nestled in the backwoods of Savannah so make sure you have a good signal on your GPS. There are loads of signs before you get near it but you'll be slightly confused by nearby trailer parks and the dirt roads. It was truly worth the adventure. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The view is unbeatable. We pass the exit at least once a month and we heard The Fish Dock was open again so we finally decided to try it. The Clams were absolutely delightful, the fried shrimp were cooked to perfection and our Server Savannah was the sweetest and most attentive. Most of all they were busy, very busy and the staff had the best attitude. We were watching the ladies behind the bar and Savannah our bartender was bartending and taking care of us but she and some other ladies were working so hard making drinks and we find out the one lady was the manager. She was so engaging with the customers, helpful with her servers we saw her making drinks, cleaning tables, serving food and smiling all while keeping the ladies that work for her engaged and happy. Hole in the wall, and definitely off the beaten path. But if you're anywhere in the area, Fish Dock is absolutely worth the drive. Such a fun spot, great views. And the food!! Didn't get pics of the entrees, but the Sapp clams appetizer was amazing. I will come back for the clams alone. Husbands fish and grits were delicious - grits and sauce were amazing.
