Mudhouse Coffee located on King Street very near Calhoun Square is a great coffee house. It is part of a small chain which originated in Charlottesville VA. Usually I swerve away from chains but I have to say this family owned one hits the spot. The ambiance is so inviting and cozy. It's a place to chill with a coffee, read a book, people watch and scroll on your phone. The coffee is very good. The staff are friendly & efficient. Definitely a great find whilst walking or shopping and I'll definitely return.

5 stars for great coffee on Kings Street with a hidden outdoor seating area that calls you in! I was in downtown Charleston looking for a spot for some laptop time with caffeine and stumbled upon Mudhouse. What called me in was a glimmer of the back outdoor area I could see through a gate. You order coffee at the counter and I also grabbed a sparkling water. Walk towards the back of the cafe and you can exit to the back area that is gorgeous, green, and features many different seating options. I was thrilled to be able to work here without feeling like I was taking too much space in a small cafe. It is the absolute ideal spot on a nice day! The coffee hit the spot, but the star was this seating area. Definitely will return!

Nice stop for a coffee. This coffee shop has all kinds of coffee drinks available. They also sell bagged coffee. Even though I just ordered a black drip - it was very good. There are tables inside. The prices are very moderate and the staff were pleasant.

First time in SC! Cute coffee spot. Seating inside and out. Large selection and so many flavors of house made syrup! Staff is friendly. Hubs is enjoying his coffee. Matcha is great. Not at all gritty. It is a bit pricey.

Mudhouse uses ceremonial grade matcha for their beverages, and the baristas were patient in whisking, which I appreciate because I've seen some coffee shops committing atrocities (e.g. storing premixed matcha in syrup bottles). Also, shout out to Carlie and Wright, super sweet baristas! Their matcha latte tastes great by itself, but if you have to pick a flavor to enhance the latte, pick the brown sugar cinnamon syrup. They sprinkle the cinnamon inside the cup before pouring the syrup and the rest, giving the beverage a beautiful golden look. Finally, their outdoor seating in the back is such a vibe. It's mostly unused, since people don't know there is seating back there. They have bean bags, where you can lay there, relax, and look up at the sky. Just watch out for mosquitoes though.

Inside and outside are aesthetically pleasing. I felt like the ambiance was a bunch of chill college students working on their school work and getting a vibe to eat. The place was not noisy. Service was okay! I ordered an affogato with chocolate gelato. The cashier let me know that they didn't have anymore nuts to put on top which is fine. I was a tad surprised they ran out of it at 8AM. He made an honest mistake and forgot about my ham and Swiss croissant. When I asked him about it, he said he would put it on the oven to heat it up. Affogato 11/10: This was absolutely worth it all! Perfect blending of strong espresso and sweet chocolate gelato. Really complimented each other. Unsure if the nuts would've made a difference. Ham & Swiss croissant -1/10: Edible. When it came out of the oven, it wasn't warm but to be frank, the bottom was COLD and hard. I wouldn't say it was frozen. But you can get a better quality croissant from a Wawa. I did not finish it.

Abby always makes my lattes just the way I like them! The flavor of the espresso used here is very good and the atmosphere is great for doing work or meeting with friends. The back patio is so beautiful as well.

Lovely shop with nice pastry selection. It's nice that they labeled where they come from, too. My basic vanilla latte was delicious and service was friendly. My homemade pop top was amazing as well.

Stopped by after work, staff was very friendly and thankfully it wasn't too crowded at that time, so we didn't even have to wait in line. Got a caramel iced latte, gladly accepting the warning that it came with 4 shots of espresso. It's a cute spot with lots of seating lining the sides, it was pretty quiet when I was there - I guess most people aren't getting coffee at 4pm like I do haha My latte was yummy - had a good flavor. I also had the chicken/bacon/ranch wrap, which came with chips as well. It was simple, but had a nice amount of cheese on it. Obviously, it's not a fancy dinner, but it hit the spot!

The indoor and outdoor space was very trendy and spacious. Plenty of seating. Indoor seating was very comfy with vibrant blue seating. Ordered a cappuccino, cost $5.25. The cashier was patient while looking over menu. There was a long line but staff got orders out efficiently.

This is a super cute little coffee shop in the heart of the shopping district. We had an hour to kill before our dinner reservation so we stopped in here to rest our legs after a day of walking and sightseeing. The service was great, the drinks were delicious, and the seats were comfortable.

I was exploring the city and by the time it hit around 3 pm I was feeling lethargic. It was time for my afternoon coffee and so I looked up coffee shops nearby and found this gem still open. The woman at the counter was super friendly as I ordered an iced vanilla latte. She informed me the syrup is made in house and I was so excited to try it (the difference in taste is always dramatically better than those generic syrups). It was a quiet Sunday afternoon so I sat at a table to enjoy my coffee. The table was a cute marble flower and I enjoyed my coffee very much. I would definitely come back here if I was in the area and recommend this coffee shop to others!

Costumer service was kind. The Americano and vanilla latte were made quick and very well. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Temperate was perfect and the style of the shop was what I am looking for in a coffee shop.

Love everything but the prices, and the coffee. Cortado was too hot. Nothing unique about the drinks or flavors either.

Iced coffee was refreshing I came back the next morning for another round. It was flavorful yet not sugary. Although I was charged twice, the manager assured me they would fix it once the line was manageable. Somehow I trusted her word for it, just the manner with which she handled it was text book! Indeed, saw the overcharged taken care of by the next day. A must stop in downtown historic Charleston for sure! I remembered enjoying it during my first stay, so naturally I had to return. This time around I stopped by twice during our two-night stay. On my first visit, I was tempted by the limited-time LoveShackFancy collaboration and ordered the Pistachio Rose Matcha Cloud Latte. It sounded amazing: house-made pistachio rose syrup, your choice of milk, topped with fluffy matcha cold foam and rose petals. Unfortunately... it was way (way) too sweet. And this is coming from someone who usually likes sweet drinks. At $10, I powered through it, but it definitely wasn't for me. My friend ordered another one of the collaboration drinks and did not finish hers because it was overwhelmingly sweet. Thankfully, my second visit redeemed everything. I went back to an old favorite - an iced matcha latte - and it was just what I was hoping for. Service was excellent during both visits. While the cafe seems to remain pretty popular, it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded. I still love the atmosphere here. It's such a great place to grab a drink before heading out to explore Charleston or while staying at the Emeline. Lesson learned: sometimes the specials are worth trying... and sometimes it's best to stick with your favorite!

This was our first stop after arriving in Charleston and I knew I wanted to return. I first visited Bitty & Beau's back in 2021 during a trip to South Carolina and was immediately positively overwhelmed by the mission, people, and atmosphere. Since then, I've also visited the Savannah location, so bringing my friends here felt like a non-negotiable part of our Charleston itinerary. Thankfully, they were more than happy to indulge me. While we all came for coffee, none of us actually ordered plain coffee. Instead, we opted for lattes and other specialty beverages, all of which were delicious. What surprised me most was that throughout the rest of our trip, despite visiting several other coffee shops, my friends repeatedly said Bitty & Beau's was their favorite. High praise considering Charleston has no shortage of excellent cafes! For those unfamiliar with Bitty & Beau's, the company is dedicated to employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, creating meaningful employment opportunities while fostering inclusion and acceptance. As a School Psychologist who works with students of varying abilities, this place holds a special place in my heart. The coffee is great, the merchandise is fun, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the smiles are contagious. Four years after my first visit, I'm happy to report that Bitty & Beau's remains just as magical as I remembered. The world needs more places like this. Five stars for Bitty & Beau's.
