    Banana bread and jammy eggs
    Joy G.

My favorite spot by far on our Charleston itinerary; my only regret is that our trip was so short that we did not have time for a second visit. Their banana bread had been recommended to me as a must-try but after a quick glance at the menu, I wanted to try at least five other things. First things first: the banana bread. 10/10. If you leave here without getting a slice warmed up with butter, you're doing yourself a serious disservice. It didn't even taste like banana bread but had the texture of a soft eggy French toast. I was so entranced with it that I managed to squirrel away half for the next day. Also got their jammy eggs because I'm an egg fiend. They were delicious, topped with chives and some chili crisp, but $7 for two eggs in this economy was a little hard to swallow. Next time I'm here, I'd want to try the quiche and the pickled shrimp toast. And they also have peanut milk?? Tucked away on a side street off the much busier King, Babas can be easy to miss but wow - talk about treasures coming in tiny sizes. There's some indoor seating and outdoor tables but don't bank on getting a table right away if you're coming on a weekend morning. The line moves quickly so we didn't mind waiting.

Wow. 5 Easy stars for a coffee shop with exceptional espresso based drinks, inventive dishes, and a perfect ambiance. Plus, unpretentious staff! First up, order at the counter and don't miss out on asking to try their house made peanut milk to add to your espresso drink. It's divine! I also got the pickled shrimp salad- beautiful full lettuce leaves with a sharp vinaigrette featuring mustard seeds and shallots, pickled shrimp, and avocado. It's a winner! Also- you MUST order the toasted banana bread. It comes with plenty of butter soaked in and crispy exterior. The espresso itself is fragrant and had a beautiful flavor profile. Next time I'll get it on its own to really savor it! The staff- LOVELY. So helpful and unpretentious and an ambiance that makes you want to stay. 10/10

Went here for breakfast, it was just average. - Peanut mocha 2/5 - didn't know what to expect from this but it tastes like peanut butter. So make sure you like peanut butter before getting this. I liked the first sip but then it got to be too much. - Matcha latte 2/5 - too milky for my preference. - Quiche 3/5 - pretty good, basic quiche - Ricotta toast 2/5 - not for me. ricotta tasted off to me and I didn't like the spice on it Went around 9:30am on a weekday and there was a line, definitely a bit of a wait so don't come if you're looking for a quick grab and go. Good amount of seats open.

This cafe was so cute and cozy on a rainy day. They were very busy, and for good reason. Their specialty is home made peanut milk and a peanut latte. It was such a unique flavor, I really enjoyed it. We got a variety of items to try. A peanut latte, a dirty chai, a pumpkin cake loaf, and deviled jammy eggs. Everything we tried was delicious. This place is definitely worth the hype.

Great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Limited seating inside and outside but it seems like a hot spot! Their sandwiches and salads looked amazing as I saw them going out but I thoroughly enjoyed my cortado with their house made syrup. The vibe is lively and it seemed like a good place for a date, to study or grab something to go. I look forward to coming back to try their food!

Might be one of the best Matcha's in Charleston. This coffee shop seems to be a staple here, because the line was down the street. Service was pretty quick and the line moves fast.

I don't even know how to rate Babas on Cannon. Just WOW! 11/10 for creative drinks. My husband got a macchiato espresso, which is just a basic drink, but he loved it. I ordered the peanut drink because I had never heard of anything close to it. Usually when I order a special or flavored coffee, I don't like them and only drink about half before throwing it out. This blew my mind. It was like a Reese's in a coffee. Think sipping chocolate, but Reese's style. That drink isn't just good, it's unforgettable. I didn't order any food, but I looked around and it looked really good as well. I highly recommend making a point to stop here in Charleston.

We were on the hunt for a great coffee shop in Charleston and we want to know where the locals go... Well, Babas on Cannon is it! We arrived around 9:30am on a Thursday and the place was already bustling with a line out the door. It looked like many people were just coming from yoga/working out or were just out & about running errands. Luckily the line moved quick and were were able to place our order at the counter in under 10 minutes. After doing a little research, we discovered that the drink to get is their signature whipped honey espresso. It's not on the menu, so you have to know to ask for it, or as the staff says... #IYKYK. It's a layered, multi-textured espresso beverage with whipped espresso, crushed ice, and honey oat milk. It did not disappoint and was a unique take on a traditional iced coffee with a velvety texture. It was not overly sweet either which I appreciated. We only came for coffee but their food looks good, too. I'd definitely return again the next time I visit!

Local little spot with lovely vibes. Quick grab and go caffeinated bevs or stay for some yummy European favorites. Interesting coffee options include a salted honey cortado or that "peanut drink". Don't sleep on the jammy eggs, tacos, baguette with ham and butter, or fresh oj. Also does an evening service with cocktails and night bites. One of my favorite spots to work.

This is a cozy European like cafe. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Let's start with the drinks. The latte was very good and they use low country whole milk. I've had a lot of lattes in my life and this milk makes a really good one. My wife got the peanut drink. It's a latte with peanut milk and mocha syrup. You heard that correctly.....peanut milk. It tasted just like a Reece's peanut butter cup. It was really good! As for the food.....the grilled cheese is a must. They have hot pepper ham in it and is perfectly crispy.

My boyfriend and I stumbled into Baba's (so cute!) and I'm still thinking about it. The peanut milk mocha and whipped honey espresso were unreal, like, the kind of drinks that live rent-free in your mind forever. Deviled eggs had the perfect kick, banana bread was the blueprint, and those peach oats felt like a hug. If I lived in Charleston, I'd probably sign my lease next door.

The best, random find next to our Airbnb in Charleston. The friendliest staff you'll ever meet, delicious coffee, a super cool aperitivo with treats, and just good vibes. This place was absolutely perfect and we came by three times during our long weekend trip. The aperitivo was our favorite -- yummy treats and one of the best Campari spritz I've had in the US. We will definitely be back!

    Avocado Toast

This place is located next to the fire station and had a long line in the morning out the door. To be honest, it was just ok. Just viewing how they work to make drinks, they're somehow working very inefficiently, thus the long lines. I tried their peanut coffee, where the black coffee was self-serve on the side. I expected something tasty and unique from their house made peanut syrup but it wasn't great. The coffee on the side notes $1 refills but I saw a girl just refilling her cup multiple times without paying. I guess it's an honor system. They had a small food menu, but I ordered their avocado toast. It's good, on crunchy toast bread with some pepper for spice. Overall there seem to be better coffee spots around King St, it was basic coffee here.

Once they arrived, I noticed they didn't get greeted as well. It's the small things that go a long way. My cousin then goes up with us to order & we have to initiate conversation first cause the cashier looks at us - mind you it's 10:30ish am and the past 2 items he tries to order, they're sold out of. At this point I didn't even feel like ordering cause we didn't feel welcomed but then I go ahead & try - their cold foam situation was confusing and so I just ended up not ordering anything. The s'mores cake was a chocolate cake with mini marshmallows, chocolate fudge, graham crackers, and more marshmallows. The cake was good and had everything I could ever want in it, but it was a little dry. I think this also had to do with it being the end of the night. The ice cream complemented the flavor well.
