Had the best time during the Yelpies awards here at Kudu! The vibes at this place were on point! I love that they have a huge patio area for when you want a more open space. The inside of the cafe is very cozy and perfect for doing school work and some work from home stuff. The pastries were delicious as well and the drinks were the best part. They have a huge selection of coffee and they also serve beer so they have something for everyone. The drinks came out really fast considering that there were a lot of people in the event. What I liked best was that the owners seemed very supportive of the staff and very engaging towards everyone that was there. Overall, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cozy place for coffee in downtown!

Bev and I had a beautiful ride from Pawleys Island to Charleston. We easily found a parking spot around the corner of Kudu Coffee and Beer. Jenny and Johnny own the Kudu Coffee and Beer. They were so gracious to Host the Yelpies Award Ceremony this year. Bev and I use walker and did not know what to expect. As we were walking past the gated Garden Scotty C. opened the gate for us and welcomed us warmly. Jenny ( the owner) went to get a hot chocolate for Bev and a coffee for me. I was overwhelmed and yet felt connected at once. We met about a half dozen people within 5 minutes. . The atmosphere was exciting and joyful. Like a reunion for the first time. We were invited to sit at the table with lamp warmers. Right next to Nanda's Pizza spot. I saw pizza in my near future. I took a moment to look around and see everything around us. This place is fantastic. Perfect for a group to meet up. The food and drinks were exceptional. The place was clean and well lit. I decided to have my one year Yelp photo taken. It was fun. I had someone help me with the technical part. Bev and I were enjoying ourselves so much. Scotty brought our drinks to us. As people circled around they stopped to chat with us. It was lovely. The music was great! The music stopped when Scotty welcomed everyone and the formal Thank You was delivered with enthusiasm by everyone. Such a special group of people. We are so glad to be a part of the Yelpies. The celebration was palpable. Such kindness and acceptance all around. Bev and I wandered in to look around. I'm so happy we did. We met Jay and Millie by the Robots. It was amazing. They took our photo and the robot sketched it out in a Santa Christmas theme . We were able to keep the card. Johnny (the Owner) offered us a chocolate croissant.... I did not say no to that. Yummy,delicious, scrumptious, for a few words. It was a Taste Bud Party in one bite! Thank you. We also got to meet a few others behind the scenes that work there... Amelia at the Bar Cami making sandwiches Ray helping everywhere Debi at the bar Also we met Shawna Charles Toni Bev Gail Nanda Jay and Millie I recommend Kudu Coffee and Beer to everyone visiting Charleston. Coffee was fine. Staff were a little rude, if I'm being honest. Good place to do work though, but I got the vibe that I wasn't welcome, so I left. Sad!

Service was decent but the food and drink were not. I got both vegan items and the banana nut muffin which she kindly heated up, was very greasy. The matcha was not great--very earthy even with vanilla syrup. Tossed half of it. I had high hopes.

I had to come back after an event to see the daytime vibes. I love the outdoor patio space and they have the best grilled cheese sandwiches! I grabbed a large croissant and salted caramel iced latte and hung out for a bit to catch up on some work. They have a good amount of seating inside if it's too cold outside. The staff here are all very nice and it's definitely gonna be a go to spot for me in DT Charleston.

When Kudu was taking over by new ownership I was a little concerned but I have found that they have successfully maintained the local charm and made several improvements to the location including expanding the seating availability. The food and drinks are as good as always. The staff definitely seem to be finding their footing but are as kind as ever. It makes me happy that the chances made seem to be for the better!

Started off our vacation morning with some seasonal coffee's from Kudu which was recommended by both locals and tourists. We came before the holidays (it's just taken me awhile to write a review) so something holiday/seasonal related was definitely up our alley. Loved the laid back, hole in the wall feel of this coffee/craft beer cafe. Very cozy and warm, if I were a local I could see myself hanging out here for a couple hours. I was kind of disappointed in my latte. I got the White Mocho Peppermint Latte and if I'm being honest it just tasted like a regular latte without any special flavoring, but I'm sure their other seasonal drinks were good because I tried my husband's Gingerbread Cold Brew and I wished I had ordered that one or another one of their cold brews. I wouldn't loved if we were in town longer so I could try more, but it was only for a short weekend, but if we are ever on this side of the country again, I would definitely pay another visit and try their regular menu.

Kudu is a long-standing staple in downtown Charleston, tucked away just off King Street close to Marion Square and the College of Charleston. The building is a beautiful, old brick structure with tile floors. Better yet is the awesome courtyard with ample seating and a fountain - perfect for early morning sips and nibbles before the summer days are too hot. Kudu has lots of coffee options plus a variety of pastries and sandwiches, Beer is also available, My iced coffee was good, the lemon poppyseed muffin looked great but was just average, I will try something else last time. Service was very polite. If you are looking for a relaxed spot downtown alone or with a friend, give this spot a try, it's a great place to do a little work, too! read more

I went, but I couldn't get inside, because I'm in a wheelchair and couldn't get up the required steps into the place. As it was below 40 degrees, the outside patio wasn't a viable option. For those in wheelchairs or similarly disabled - this place is not for you. At least not unless the weather is such that you can be outside on the patio (but I'm not sure they have service there, or if you have to go inside to order). Of course this also means no restrooms, no place to wash hands before eating. read more

Coffee was good. Not sure it was worth the bruised ego. One of the staff looked at me like I was crazy for asking which sandwich was mine and then asking for a bag. I felt very unwelcome. Hopefully this was just an off day for them. read more

Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer was a great place to spend time! It is a very homely and busy place down in Charleston. We adored the Chocolate Croissant and the muffins, they were so fresh and delicious. The homemade pop-tart was a pleasant surprise too! It is an excellent spot to sit back, relax and enjoy the special ambience. It is worth visiting whether you are here to have coffee or a craft beer. read more

Great coffee and espresso options with all the diary alternatives. Pastry case is fully stocked and tasty. Baristas are kind and made my latte perfectly. Plenary of tables and seating in this roomy and clean cafe. If you want something that is NOT big box coffee, this place is for you! Bring fully charged electronics since power plugs are not available and enjoy the vibe. read more

I'm a little reluctant to spill the (coffee) beans about Kudu as it's such a great spot that I want to make sure I'll always be able to get a seat there! It's definitely my favorite coffee shop in Charleston. Situated just off King Street, it's in an interesting light filled building , and it had a big adjacent courtyard that you can sit in. The staff are really nice and friendly, it's a busy spot but they are also very efficient. The coffee is very good, they have a decent selection of pastries and some sandwiches, and they have craft beers on tap. Bonus points for being open 7-7, having two bathrooms, and reasonable prices! read more

Had an iced latte and it was very good, love a coffee shop that puts more espresso shots in as size of drink increases, so many just add more milk/ice. Wife had iced chai, she liked it very much as well. Good spot, nice patio with a fountain. read more

Who knew the coffee scene in Charleston was this good? At $7 for a flavored oat milk latte, prices were in line with what I've come to expect these days. It was chill and low-key inside, where I whiled away an hour waiting for a plantation tour. They also had outdoor seating in a courtyard. read more

Coffee and matcha were not great, but the service was good. The ambience isn't the most inviting but can definitely get some work done in this spot if needed. Don't have to stop, plenty other good options in the area. I hope they will up their game with some higher quality beans and syrups soon. read more

Such a cute little coffee spot. Rustic, earthy and hip. Menus are placed in numerous spots for easy access and visibility--takes away the anxiety of ordering at a new spot. Staff was pleasant, easygoing and quite fast with whipping up our coffee, beer (yep, they have beer), tea and food order. We basically tried a bit of everything they had to offer! No complaints on our end. Who could? You're drinking great coffee, eating tasting pastries, people watching and sitting in the cutest outdoor southern charmed patio. read more

I visited a number of coffee shops while in Charleston and this one was by far my favorite! I The espresso was good and they steamed my milk to perfection on my cappuccino. I'm not being dramatic. I could drink this cappuccino for days. The milk was so velvety. Very odd but it's going to haunt my dreams. The staff was knowledgeable and knew their stuff when it comes to their espresso and recommendations. The vibes are what you could expect. Nice and friendly. As for food, we had the ham and cheese croissant and the vegan banana nut bread. Wow. Both very good additions to have with your coffee. Next time i'm in town, I'm coming for you cappuccino. read more

One of the beat places that we visited every single morning while we were on vacation! A ton of coffee choices, teas, mimosas and local craft beer! Let's just say that we enjoyed a few breakfast beers! Haha! A truly nice human approached us and asked us if everything was great, and we answered YES! He asked if those were breakfast beers and we once again answered YES! We quickly clarified that we were on vacay and laughed it off. Looove Kudu. My kind of atmosphere-- hipster cafe with loud music, cute little antiques and lights, lots of people (mostly college students), and comfy couches. Even has an outside courtyard with occasional live music. The people that work here are very genuine people. The food and drinks come out right away-- just spectacular service. My favorite thing to get is the chai tea (hot or cold) with skim milk. It is the best chai I've ever tasted, which is why I am always back for more. They also have a drink called the dirty chai, which is chai tea and coffee mixed. Also very delicious. The sandwiches here are really yummy, especially the turkey with pesto sandwich and chicken salad on rye marble. They're pre-made, but they heat them right up for you in the toaster and it's a very fresh + delectable sandwich. Comes with a free side of chips or a banana. The pastries here are also amazing. Ham and cheese croissant is a MUST. And the ginormous chocolate chip cookie is gushy and magnificent. Just a great place to be on any day really-- rain or shine. I am one of the lucky ones to have discovered Kudu when it first opened. I went to the College of Charleston and lived downtown. Instead of doing work at the library, I'd pack up and go to Kudu. They have the most amazing coffee. It's the best I've ever had BY FAR and I'm an avid coffee drinker. My dad, who drinks an entire thermos of coffee a day and is hard to please with coffee, adores kudu. When he visits from NJ, we HAVE to go or his trip is not complete. I've recently moved to Summerville, and my husband and I make a trip to kudu at least once a week. Needless to say... i'm obsessed! read more

Very relaxed atmosphere, great outdoor space, great beer selection - decently priced but not great. My girlfriend says the quiche is delicous but I havent tried the food yet. The one downside is that only about 1/3 of the outdoor seating is near the power outlets. It was very busy and I had to leave because my computer was dying. If they could solve that one problem it would be an even better experience. All in all I really enjoyed it and its my favorite coffee shop in the downtown area. read more
