We stayed here this past weekend and we loved it. The hotel is very comfortable and has a full kitchen and a full sized fridge. It is located in the Gaslamp district a stones throw from the ballpark. It's basically surrounded by restaurants and bars but far enough that you don't hear all the noise from the Gaslamp. We loved how cold the air conditioner was in the room because this had to be one of the hottest weekends in San Diego. The hotel had a retro baseball theme that was perfect. Linda was wonderful, she showed us where everything was and was very pleasant. The beds were really comfortable as well as the pillows. This place had all the creature comforts and was a really wonderful place to stay. We will definitely be back to stay at the Mudville Flats. Happy Yelping!

    Welcome to awesomeness.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to stay in a standard chain hotel ever again. Mudville Flats completely changed the traditional hotel experience for me. My husband and I spent a few days in San Diego for his birthday and found out about Mudville on a travel review site. It's a 1905 California Craftsman house that has been renovated and turned into a 3-room "hotel". When we arrived, the owner Linda came out to greet us and help us with our bags then gave us a tour of the house before taking us to our room (Suite D.) She left us with a list of area restaurants, attractions, general info and her and her husband's phone numbers, in case we needed to reach either of them. It felt like we were guests in someone's home...I loved it. Our room was incredible - spacious, charming and warmly decorated. There was a sitting area with a large couch in front of a huge window, table and standing lamps and a huge, king-sized sleigh bed with rich bedding and lots of fluffy pillows. The kitchen had a gas stove/oven, full-sized fridge and was fully-equipped with dishes, glasses and utensils. The bathroom was adorable and impeccably clean. It had a claw-foot tub, was stocked with "green" toiletries and plenty of clean towels. I even made a few mental notes for when I decide to redo the bathroom at home... Our suite also had an outdoor sitting area on the deck, which was great for coffee, reading, a glass of wine, etc. On the bottom level, there's a yard surrounded with palm trees and plants and patio furniture to chill on. There's even a gas grill for you to use, if you'd rather make dinner at "home". On the second night of our trip, we decided to order pizza from a local restaurant. Unfortunately, I ended up getting severe food poisoning and was bed-ridden for pretty much the remainder of the trip. The silver lining? If I was going to get sick anywhere while on vacation, there was no better place for it to happen at than Mudville. I don't know what I would've done if I had to spend my time in some crappy hotel room with zero character or warmth to keep me comfy. HD Satellite cable was a great amenity to have while I was out of commission. I think I must've watched 5-6 movies in a row... One of the best things about Mudville Flats was its convenience. Its downtown location makes it easy to walk to Petco Park, the gaslamp districts and our personal favorite, Neighborhood (cool bar with a GREAT draft list, if you're craft beer nerds like us.) To top it all off, the room rates are extremely reasonable for downtown accomodations. We're planning a make-up trip for early next year and we'll definitely be staying at Mudville Flats when we make it back. I would've stayed all month if we didn't have two needy cats waiting for us back home.

I am so happy I found this place via AARP! Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District, I had never heard of this hotel prior to searching. Upon checking in, the desk clerk was very friendly, efficient, and answered any questions that I had. As for the room, he put us up on the top (4th) floor. Room is the perfect size for two people. Very clean, warm, inviting, and has some really cute and convenient amenities such as a pineapple themed USB quad port at the desk, along with a Keurig machine (had I known that I'd have brought my own Starbucks K-cups)! The bed was nice and comfy with lots of soft but supportive pillows and two separate comforter blankets so you're not fighting for covers if you are sharing the bed with someone or your significant other. Bathroom is very modern and clean. A hairdryer is hanging in the bathroom as well. The only item missing was an iron and an ironing board; however, you can request that at the front desk. If you are looking for a hotel with a gym, laundry facilities on site, and a full breakfast buffet or continental breakfast, then this place is not for you; however, if those things don't matter to you {I typically look for those types of hotels during a longer stay) then this hotel is all you need. You also get other unexpected creature comforts such as Starbucks coffee in the lounge along with 4 different blends of water as well as these cute pineapple cookies in the afternoon. Based in Seattle, WA, I am so happy I found this chain as I will be on the lookout and consider staying in other cities. Parking is available in a garage connected to the hotel next door for a fee. Also, bikes are available in the lobby for getting around (not sure if gratis or for a fee). I definitely recommend staying here! One small recommendation for the hotel: provide rooms with a small microwave and mini fridge to reheat leftovers. It all worked out as I gave a homeless guy mine.

I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. He remembered us throughout our weekend, which was a big plus in my book. While the lobby may not be as expansive as some other high-end hotels, my focus wasn't on lounging around there. I get that some reviewers might expect more amenities, but this is Downtown San Diego. The design and structure fit perfectly with the surroundings, and I personally appreciate a place that keeps the riff-raff at bay. Once we checked into our room, I found the space thoughtfully designed, and the staff promptly addressed the minor issues we encountered. Though the hotel doesn't boast a massive pool, located on the 3rd floor, the staff provided excellent food and beverage service. The gym, overlooking the pool, was well-equipped for a proper workout, and I was pleased to find that the equipment was in good condition and saw little use. The hotel's restaurants offered delicious meals, making dining a pleasure. Cathryn, with her crossed key pins, was an outstanding concierge. She provided invaluable advice on local beach spots and dining options. After making a poor Yelp choice, she came to my rescue, finding great restaurants in both the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy that suited our specific preferences. One small gripe: We were locked out of our room probably because we requested late check out and tried getting in after 11am (something needs to be done to prevent this, it was annoying). The valet parking was around $70 so we found a parking lot a few blocks away. The walk wasn't bad so a good alternative. The location is close to the convention center and stadium, but if you're not coming to SD for those places, I wouldn't say this is a central location. I booked through Chase Sapphire Reserve The Edit and got the following perks: 1. Upgrade to higher floor room 2. Amenity (a box of chocolates) 3. $100 credit (used on lunch at Provisional Kitchen) 4. $60 breakfast credit (used at Provisional Kitchen) 5. Unfortunately, my experience with the billing issue was disappointing. The hotel overcharged me $140 for an extra night of parking that I did not owe. Instead of proactively correcting the mistake, I had to spend part of my evening calling the hotel multiple times to get the issue addressed. I eventually spoke with Vee, who handled my call regarding the overcharge. What was most frustrating was that the error was made by the hotel, yet there was little effort to compensate for the inconvenience. As a courtesy, I felt the hotel could have waived the third night's parking charge given the time and effort I had to spend resolving a mistake that wasn't mine. My time is valuable, and having to dedicate part of my evening to fixing a billing error left me feeling that guest satisfaction was not a priority. While the property itself is nice and some staff members, like Jules, provide great service, this experience left me questioning whether the hotel truly values repeat customers. Beach Village at Hotel del Coronado…read more We recently stayed at Beach Village at Hotel del Coronado and had an amazing experience. Both of our rooms (1103 and 1104) were located in the same oceanfront building and featured incredible beachfront patios with fire pits. Being able to sit outside, listen to the waves, and enjoy the ocean views right from our patio was truly special. The rooms themselves were fantastic. Large French doors opened directly to the patio, allowing the ocean air and sound of the surf to flow into the room. The suite layout worked perfectly for our family, with the ability to separate the bedroom from the main living area. The kids were able to sleep comfortably on the fold-out bed in the main area while mom and dad enjoyed a private bedroom. The bathroom was spacious and luxurious, featuring a double vanity, soaking tub, and separate shower. One room included a full kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, and two refrigerators, while the other had a more traditional hotel room setup. Both were spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The Beach Village amenities are excellent. There are multiple pools throughout the property, including a larger main pool with a spa, smaller pools located throughout Beach Village, and an adults-only pool for those looking for a quieter experience. There also appear to be a few standalone hot tubs/jacuzzis around the property. Service throughout our stay was outstanding. Every interaction with staff was positive, and we genuinely have no complaints regarding the level of service we received. We love Coronado and always enjoy visiting. The only disappointment was that the ocean water was closed due to the ongoing Tijuana River contamination issues. Obviously, that is not the hotel's fault. However, large stakeholders such as Hotel del Coronado likely have a stronger voice than individual visitors and residents, and continued advocacy for a permanent solution would benefit everyone who enjoys this beautiful coastline. Even with a few maintenance items noted below, this was still a five-star stay and a place we would happily return to. A few suggestions for management: Room 1104: * Dog hair on some furniture * Dishwasher missing components that secure the racks * Patio electrical outlet cover is loose and missing screws; the plate comes off when opening the cover * Left window does not lock properly * Strong spice/food odor in refrigerator * Could not figure out how to get the surround sound system working Room 1103: * Toilet seat should be replaced with a soft-close seat Overall, Beach Village offers an incredible beachfront experience with beautiful accommodations, excellent service, fantastic amenities, and some of the best oceanfront patios we've ever enjoyed.
