I had a wonderful stay at 1906 Lodge and would absolutely come back. The rooms were very comfortable and made for a relaxing stay, and the staff was genuinely warm and welcoming throughout the visit. One of the highlights was breakfast -- the quiche was amazing and easily one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. The location is fantastic. It's a quick, easy walk to the beach, the iconic Hotel del Coronado, plus plenty of shopping and great restaurants nearby. I also loved that they provide bikes and beach chairs, which made exploring Coronado and spending time by the water effortless. My daughter and I decided on a quick getaway down to Coronado and stayed at 1906 Lodge. What a great decision. The staff was warm and friendly The room was darling, comfortable and clean. The properly and grounds are well kept. We could walk everywhere from the Lodge. We Borrowed bikes for a few hours and rode around the island. The happy hour is so nice. Drinks and a small and tasty charcuterie assortment. The breakfast is homemade and brought to you on their patio or quaint dining area. So tasty. We felt very at home there. My partner and I stayed at the 1906 Lodge and we were surprised that not a ton of people are raving about this place. When we got there, they upgraded our room to one with the patio attached to it. The room was spacious and well decorated. We even took advantage of the bath tub with the jet streams. The staff were very warm and welcoming. Horrible Management and False Advertising We booked a room for 8 nights. We were visiting my parents who have a place on the island, but we decided to get a hotel for a little more room since I am pregnant and have a 1 year old and 3 year old. (All that to say we were never really at the hotel. We left around 9am every morning and came back around 8pm every night for bed.) When we booked the room, we asked if the hotel was kid friendly since we have two very young children. They assured us they were. It a very small hotel with all rooms facing a very small courtyard with a very large in ground fountain. The lady that checked us in was great and showed the kids the fountain, letting them touch the water. On our 5th day I had a doctor's appointment, so my husband and their grandparents were watching the kids. Apparently my 3 year old ran up to the large fountain in the courtyard, climbed up on the 10" high ledge, my husband ran and grabbed him, he started crying so my husband and the grandparents immediately left the hotel so he wouldn't disturb the guests. I got repeated calls while I was in a doctor's appointment so I finally answered and the "hotel manager" immediately starts telling me that my child's behavior was completely unacceptable and this hotel is not geared for children, it is for romantic getaways, and the hotel is changing their policy on allowing children. Confused I asked what happened, since I was in an appointment, and she said "that fact that you don't know is why you are a problem". I said I am not with my kids I am at an appointment and that I needed to go. After talking to some people, apparently when my son started crying there was a hotel guest that complained to the manager and was upset that they allow children at the hotel. Instead of having any managerial skills or emotional intelligence and going outside to talk to my husband in person like a human being, she decided to call me several times and then berate me on the phone. After my appointment I went to talk to her in person, and I told her this was a single incident that was handled immediately and really did not warrant the inappropriate phone calls. She then started throwing out additional accusations of "other incidents" that happened and kept saying that the hotel was basically not geared for children. I asked what the other incidents were, and she said that one of the mornings I left my children unattended in the courtyard. Every morning my mother would come over and she would watch them for maybe 5 min so I could run inside and get the diaper bag packed. The manager is so inept that she didn't realize that the elderly person waiting with my children wasn't another guest it was their grandmother. Realizing that she screwed up again, she tried to double down and said, " your son also peed on the floor". That is when I started to get uncomfortable. I asked how she could possibly know that. My son few nights prior was trying to make it to the toilet, and he didn't make it in time and had an accident on the tile floor IN THE HOTEL ROOM (immediately cleaned up). I asked her how she could possibly know that. She started to panic then started back pedaling saying she never said anything she had previously said and that she had a recording of our conversations so she could prove it. I said great I want to hear that recording. She said no. I was so uncomfortable. I said clearly you don't want us here because we have kids and I am now uncomfortable staying here. I am happy to check and go to the Hotel Del. She said she would need to access the damage in or room, which again another bizarre comment, thankfully I had taken photos of the room when we checked in. I asked her to access the room so we could check out and she said "no I do that on my own time not yours" and if we checked out early she was still going to charge us for the full 8 nights because I didn't give her 7 days notice. This whole thing was insane. I have emailed her boss and formally asked for a copy the recordings of these conversations she said she had. Her boss wrote back and said she wouldn't give me other guests information, which I never asked for, and that she is looking into it, that was 5 days ago. As for the room... We booked a 2 Queen bed room. The room had 1 queen and 1 full, the floorboards around room were all dirty and damaged, there was a dirty stained rug, the sink wasn't cleaned, the toilet paper holder falling off the wall, very thin walls, etc. The free breakfast was basically powered eggs and frozen hash browns, nothing too exciting. The people cleaning the room would never take the dishes and glasses so we would put them outside. I would liken the room to a very nice motel. I had prescription for antinausea that went missing one of the days, maybe it got thrown out when they cleaned. I never write reviews, but this manger ruined the first vacation we have taken in 3 years. I don't recommend and if you say take photos at check in. read more

We booked 8 rooms for our organization's board meeting and were greatly pleased with the beautiful, clean facility, the delicious culinary experiences both at the daily happy hour and breakfast, the proximity to downtown Coronado and the beach, and most notably the warm hospitality of the staff. Their kindness, attention to detail, and desire to make the guest experience special caused us to feel we were staying at a classic bed and breakfast. We will be repeating our future board meetings here, and hope to interact with Monse, Lexi, Kelly, and the other wonderful staff once again! read more

It was my last day in San Diego & we went to Coronado Island before heading back home. I honestly fell in love with the town & decided to stay one more night. We were looking for hotels & Thank God we came across this beautiful & cute hotel. It's so romantic! Such a unique a beautiful property. There are only 17 rooms, I stayed in "Kate's Room". It was spacious, comfortable, super clean & I loved the decoration. Excellent location, walking distance to all the restaurants, stores & the beach. My favorite part? You get a chance to borrow bikes! I took a long bike ride & it was beautiful! My other favorite part was my very own "coffee station" just outside my room. Can't wait to go back. Complementary Breakfast...& it was so delicious. We had yogurt with homemade granola,quiche, toasted bread & of course coffee and OJ. Staff was great! Everyone was so nice & attentive. Loved my stay here. The room was cozy but modern with a fireplace refrigerator cute sitting area in the room and very clean! Before booking the room I called other places and found for the price amenities included at 1906 Lodge were normally extra or not offered at other hotels. For the hotel nightly fee I received breakfast in the morning which was a sit down a friendly staff served me coffee juice and the breakfast of the day which one morning was quiche two slices of bacon then yogurt with fresh berries and toasted granola a small muffin and a small fresh salad. Oh and a mimosa if you like. Amazing! Every afternoon from 4-5 is happy hour with wines cheese fruit and cracker plate. You sit down in this open airy room or on the outside patio next to fountains and landscape as they serve you wine and an individual platter of cheese and fruit. Again amazing! I received access to the gated parking garage for my car at no additional fee when others charge $20-$40 more a night. Hotel is a 2 minute was to the Main Street of Coronado surrounded by great restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend this place. Oh the service was great as well. Everyone was so friendly helpful and professional. Loved the experience. They advertise use of bikes and in the garage a saw about 6-7 super cute beach cruisers with baskets all in great condition so it must be legitimate though I never needed one this stay. This place is different from a chain hotel, and it grows on you quickly. We stayed for five nights, and we didn't want to leave. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure you have an incredible experience (Thank you, Adrian!). Here are some things we enjoyed: --It is near everything in town, great shopping and restaurants. You can walk everywhere --They cleaned our room daily --They provided the most incredible breakfasts daily --They had happy hour with really yummy appetizers, sangria, wine, beer, etc., every night at 4:00 pm --They let me use a room in the basement for early am meetings, so I did not disturb other guests. --We had fun with family in the living room, playing games. Keep in mind that they have quiet hours from 8 pm to 8 am, but they have outside areas where you can gather. We are LOUD people and had no issues. read more

I have visited this lodge a couple different times over the last few years. It is a nice location within walking distance to eateries and close to the beach. The room itself is really nicely put together, and appreciate the robes as well. The only issue I had (both times) is that the jetted tub doesn't work completely. One or two of the jets at least at the time of my stay were not working. Overall I wouldn't let it sway me from staying again, but I do hope in the future it will be fully functional, especially with everything these days rising in costs, like hotel/Inn stays. Also had some invoice concerns, where I ended up paying more after the fact instead of up front when I initially reserved, but they are fairly minor things to an overall good experience. read more

Excessively condescending reservations staff Disappointed that such a lovely hotel would allow phone operators to be so condescending to prospective patrons. Simply called to ask whether they were pet-friendly and allowed surfboards either in room or elsewhere on property. (Pets are allowed, limited to one room and loads of restrictions, but still possible; surfboard seemed to be the operator's breaking point.) Treatment was insulting in that sugary sweet voice / mean girls kind of way. Really got the vibe that the operator (owner?) felt we weren't the "right type" and was put on a long hold before receiving a recommendation for another hotel. Hard pass. read more

The service is terrible here, very rigid and stringent. You can not bring umbrella or chair rental pass 11 am, no earlier check in and parking. Only after 3 pm. If you overstay pass 11 am you will be charged $200 - loud and clear declaration from the lady at reception. Not like other hotels which are pretty flexible, considering we are a Hyatt loyalty members and we're referred to this hotel by them. The receptionist was very very unpleasant and uninviting. Our friends and us will never be coming back. The positives: The rooms are clean and nice but bad service cancels everything. Also very good breakfast considering limited service in the hotels. Suggestion: to put someone really nice at reception who can not only smile and be grumpy At the same time but who could be genuinely pleasant. People can always feel the energy. read more

I don't understand the rave reviews! Pros: Location and the breakfast server, Pia,who was friendly and kind. Cons: For $500 a night, we didn't expect a grumpy receptionist who did not make us feel welcomed when checking in, a room with an uncomfortable bed, a LOUD portable air conditioner and a noisy ceiling fan which made sleeping almost impossible, no warning about a private party of 25 loud people who overtook the entire patio and when asked about it got a nasty response from the same grumpy person at the receptionist desk, and I let the lodge know beforehand that my husband was celebrating a milestone birthday and they couldn't do anything nice for him. read more

This is my third stay at the 1906 Lodge. I have gone with my hubby for a romantic weekend, solo on a "Momcation", and this time on a girl's trip. I have found this boutique hotel to be the perfect setting for each. It is quiet, peaceful, and perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. The 5 of stayed in one room together, the room is called "Star Park". There was one king and one queen bed, plus an oversized chair that pulled out to make a bed, which was surprisingly comfy. The room was plenty roomy, even with 5 of us. There was a small table and chairs, a dresser, sink area with a coffee maker and mini fridge (Ice bucket and wine opener included!), closet, and large bathroom. There is also a fireplace. The beds were comfy, loved the pillows. The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub as well as a separate shower. Soaps, shampoo and conditioner, and lotion are provided. Small details like shower caps, makeup remover wipes, and cotton balls and qtips are not overlooked. There is a blow dryer as well. In the closet you will find and iron and ironing board and a small space heater. The patio was great for relaxing after a long day, with comfy chairs and a table. The breakfast, which is included, is served on your own patio if you are facing the courtyard, same with happy hour. Breakfast was super yummy and filling. Juice, coffee, and mimosas were offered. Happy hour had choices of red or white wine or sangria, as well as an appetizer. T The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the beach right near the Hotel Del. We used the provided beach chairs and towels, which were great! (You could rent lounge chairs or daybeds on the beach if you wanted to) I enjoy walking to everything on Coronado. There are tons of food options, coffee, shopping, golf cart rentals, gelato, beautiful homes to view, and the beach all within a short walk. There is a spa across the street. If you are looking for recommendations, the front desk staff is always happy to help you find the right spot for your needs! If you are up for a longer walk, you can head right down Orange to the Ferry Landing. There is more shopping and good eats, as well as the Ferry which we took over to the Gaslamp District. If you plan to stay on Coronado and enjoy walking or biking/golf carts, there is really no need for a car if you are flying in. Just uber over. There is onsite parking, but I have not used it. Benny, the new manager, was impressive. We chatted with him a few times and appreciated him very much! We could see through his interactions with guests and locals that he is very kind and cares about people. The other times I have stayed were in one of the Grand Spa rooms - they were incredible also! Big jacuzzi tubs, large enough for 2! Overall, I highly recommend the 1906 Lodge, it has quickly become my happy place! read more

If you're looking to stay in Coronado, but away from the touristy spots - 1906 is your place! It's charming and perfect for couples! You can't beat this quaint B&B. I am so glad we stayed here! Audrey helped us upon check in. Once we received our keys she explained we needed it for everything: to get into the lobby, to get back into the building after parking in the garage (free underground parking) and our room of course. She's very friendly and super approachable! She opened the door to our room and I was completely in love! We stayed in the 'Silver Strand' room which has a queen bed, dual fireplace (one side facing the bed and the other facing the jacuzzi in the room), shower, refrigerator and balcony. They leave you with two water bottles - moreso old milk bottles with water in them - and you can refill them in the lobby. The bathrobes are super cozy! I love their attention to detail (black towels to wash our face/remove our makeup & salt baths for the jacuzzi); we had everything we needed & more. Breakfast is light. There was quiche (which tasted more like cornbread?), fresh made scones (delicious!), 3 cereal options (a gluten free one included), juice (cranberry and orange), bagels, oatmeal, coffee & tea. They also have happy hour from 5p-6p where they serve light appetizers and wine. The location is a short walk to Coronado beach and very close to shops on Orange. They also have bicycle & golf cart rentals. $20/hour for the golf cart rental though.. Check in is at 3pm and check out is at 11am. WORTH EVERY PENNY! This place is the ultimate treat-me-right spot. Luxury suite with a jacuzzi tub & fireplace. 5-star breakfast with unlimited mimosas. Afternoon wine and snacks. Free underground parking. Secluded but in the middle of everything. What more could you want?! We went during their 10 year anniversary. Wow! What a transformation from where this place started! We got some history after we were checked in and walked to our room. Within minutes, our host reappeared with a bottle of chilled white wine, 2 wine glasses, and some nuts. A perfect way to start our stay. We walked just about everywhere. It was that easy and that close to everything. One time we took the FREE summer shuttle out to Coronado Brewery and back. But the rest was nearby. I recommend Stake Chophouse, only a block away, if you like steak and it's a special stay. There are no other words I can say to boast how amazing this place was. Stayed here 3 nights for our babymoon and really enjoyed our stay. We chose the spa room on the first floor w/ a fire place. It was a nice room with spacious sitting area, a very big bathroom and our own outdoor patio sitting area. The spa was big and relaxing and we enjoyed it every night. Room is clean and bed is very comfy. The fireplace is electronic so we don't have to struggle w/ getting it started. The location is great. Walking distance from the Hotel Del and restaurants on Orange Ave but also located at a quite neighborhood without all the noise nor crowds. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back if we were to visit San Diego again. It lost one star mainly cuz of the breakfast. We stayed at other four sisters inn before the the breakfast was amazing! The hot entree is a separate dish and is different everyday. We even had ones that will set up all the items on a food cart and allow us to have breakfast in our own room. However, the 1906 lodge breakfast is a little below avg, the hot entree is buffet style, not individually served and the fruits are very sad looking. The sweets are good though, I like their baked goods. Also, the mini fridge in our room didn't work... we got some grocery items the first night and by next morning, our milk & beer are lukewarm... the even sadder thing is our ice cream become cream within 2 hours inside the fridge... the fridge is very hot on the outside and not cold at all inside... Another area for improvement would be the AC/heater. It wasn't working the first night and our room was 64F. We contacted the staff but they told us there is probably something wrong and we will have to wait till the next day. We were eventually able to sleep well thanks to the fireplace but still it would be great if the AC/heater system works better. It's an overall very lovely place to stay and we really enjoyed it. Would recommend to those who visit Coronado. read more

By far one of our favorite stays and we've stayed hundreds of places. I couldn't wait to leave this review. The welcome cookies waiting I'm in the room are delicious. From the moment we rang the door bell every staff member we encountered was welcoming, friendly and willing to share information about the property and things to do on the island. The property was very clean. I must say the pictures on some of the online platforms seem a bit dingy but the rooms actually are very fresh and the decor is new, though it has somewhat of a rustic or vintage vibe at least in our room. The bed was so comfortable we didn't want to leave it. The robes in the room were a great touch and very soft. The hot tub and fireplace was everything we needed to help set the mood. We were in the Silver Strand room which is great for a short stay but I would definitely recommend getting the larger suite for anything over 3 nights. The balcony was great to have coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The evening reception was simple and intimate, we loved the Sangria with clove. The breakfast in the morning was cute and tasty and the free mimosas at breakfast was a bonus. 1906 is cozy, romantic and a bang for your buck. Anytime we visit Coronado island this is definitely our new spot. There's plenty of good food options in the island but it seems the entire island shuts down by 9-10pm so plan accordingly. There weren't very many guest when we stayed but the folks that were there were very friendly and engaging. For a lodge like this on such a private island I'm sure we are not the typical guest but I must say as 30 and 31 years old and an interracial couple We still felt very welcomed. I have never been to California let alone Coronado Island. We stayed at the 1906 Lodge and did not regret it at all! It's great walking distance to the beach, shops, and restaurants. I am not an early riser but I made it a point to get up between 8:00 am and 9:30 am to indulge in the amazing breakfast there. There was something different every morning and it wouldn't surprise me if it was made by a world renown chef. The hospitality was great and they always made sure our room was clean and bed was made. This place is amazing!!! We stayed here to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. When you go to book here you may think to yourself "well damn this place is expensive" but it's worth every penny you pay for it. First of all, the check in at the front desk is awesome. Instead of the usual here's your and here's a map to your room service you get at other typical hotels, here you get a tour of the grounds and they walk you right to your specific room. There is a generous and delicious breakfast served every morning with bottomless mimosas. They also have a afternoon happy hour with wine and finger foods. There's a nice relaxing courtyard to hang out in and the location of the hotel can't be beat. It's close to several great places to eat and probably five blocks from the beach. We had a problem with the room we were checked into- our jets in the spa tub didn't work. They immediately remedied the situation by getting us into another room with a working tub, and they showed us two different rooms (they are have a different theme) and allowed us to pick one. Every room has a fireplace and jet tub and the beds are super comfortable with nice clean linens. Our experience here was amazing and the staff was amazing. I can't say enough good things. Thoughtful details, 1906 Lodge coasters to protect the wooden furniture, refillable glass bottles with lids and filtered water, individually decorated room, daily wine/appetizers from 5-6, a generous breakfast that is different each day, are complementary with your stay. We didn't take advantage of the bike, beach chairs or the golf cart rental but had we stayed more than 2 nights we would have! I loved reading about the history & restoration of this beautiful lodge. We stayed at the 1906 Lodge for a week and had a wonderful experience. The innkeepers are super friendly and helpful. The room staff paid attention to detail and did a wonderful job - they work very hard. The breakfasts were delicious and happy hour wine and snacks hit the spot. We loved the location - being able to be at the beach in 5 minutes and to walk to numerous restaurants in minutes. They had beach chairs available for use as well as towels and umbrellas. We were working remotely and the wifi was excellent in our room and the lounge area. However, the wifi in the outdoor patio was hit or miss - that was a bit disappointing. We'll definitely be back. We stayed in the Bay View room - Pros: lots of light, windows facing the front Cons: Not a lot of storage - room for just a few hangers out in the open and there just a couple of small drawers. Not ideal for a 7-day stay, but fine for 2 or 3 nights. The TV is to the side of the bed. The neck pain is enough to keep you from watching too much TV! read more

Stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. Very quaint. The hotel grounds feel like a secret garden, the room was perfect. We stayed in a spa guest room with a large spa tub that had jets. The price included breakfast, happy hour wine, cookies at bedtime, beach cruiser bikes and parking... I hope I'm not missing anything. The grounds were very well kept and the staff was pleasant. We had the best stay at 1906 Lodge this weekend! This was our first trip to San Diego so we really weren't sure where to stay, and I'm so glad we found this inn! Everyone was so kind and helpful, and the entire place was kept incredibly clean. The breakfast and happy hour services were fantastic as well. We can't wait to visit again! read more

My husband and I decided to stay at 1906 Lodge for our honeymoon and everything about it was absolutely perfect. I have no doubt in my mind that we'll be staying here again. It's tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of Orange Avenue, but only a minutes walk if you want to be in it. We stayed in the Authors Study which is dedicated to Lyman Frank Baum who as it turns out, does share some history with Coronado. The room is located in the main building and is accented with a few books, Wizard of Oz memorabilia, and a vintage armoire. There was something about this room... the way the furniture smelled like the old wooden desk at my grandparents house and how it felt better to have the windows open then to cool off with the A/C and small collection of Baum novels that make it homely (even if there are some modern touches). Everyone we interacted with at 1906 was chipper and helpful. And they really go above and beyond with the little things. When we walked in our room, there was a card on the bed welcoming us as well as a small box of chocolates. And what's a Bed & Breakfast without breakfast? Their breakfast is top notch. Each day there was one main item that is usually in some kind of casserole from. Among the ones available during our stay were quiche, frittatas, french toast, pancakes, and burritos. There were a variety of side dishes available like fresh fruits and ham. And then they have the usual suspects like cereal, milk, orange juice, boiled eggs, bagels, toast, and oatmeal. I definitely started each day off on the right foot. Although my husband did comment that he wished they had more of a variety of meats like bacon or sausage. We decided to meet some friends for a weekend getaway. They had chosen Coronado (our old stomping grounds from my husband's Navy days) and were staying at the Hotel Del. I love the history of the Del, but we thought it seemed overpriced and needed updating, so we decided to stay a few blocks away at the 1906 Lodge. Boy, did we make the right choice! Fantastic service, food & accommodations. From being handed a glass of wine at check-in, to discovering the tranquility of the grounds; its like stepping inside a haven, right in the middle of town. Our room, the Ferryboat Landing, was gorgeous. The 4 poster bed was so high, I actually had to use the stool provided to get onto the bed. Plus, the bathroom was spacious. Plus, they provided dark wash cloths to wash your face of make-up. Nice, when all the other towels are white. We also enjoyed the wine & cheese hour in the late afternoon and the breakfast was fantastic. Our friends were so jealous when they walked over from the Del. They did not have the same experience as us. read more
