I first went here in 2020 during the summer, and people were waiting in a line that went out the door and down the street. Coming back in 2021, the lines and wait are shorter. Considering it's size, Mueller's Bakery has a considerable variety of pastries and desserts to choose from. The prices are moderate, leaning on the expensive side. I was looking for a new bakery and yes I did ask "Siri" to find one, and glad I did. It remind me of a place in Brooklyn growing up. The choices of turnovers and cookies were great, they had holiday cakes as well as sugar free items. They had a variety of coffee and other quick grab take out items. The turnovers are flaky and filled with fresh fruits that is enough for 2 people. Will say a little expensive 2 turnovers and a Danish $12 dollars but was definitely worth it, expect a little wait as very popular place, but can't be beat. read more

Sorry but recently (like in 2022) Mueller's quality has started a downhill slide. We bought a few different cake slices recently and each was stale. We also had a store baked pretzel which was tasteless and too hard. Yesterday Sunday, November 20, we purchased two of the coffee cakes that used to be to die for and I can tell you they were stale. Now, I ask you, wouldn't you think if they were baking for a weekend (no less for a weekend coming up to one of their biggest holiday seasons) that the cakes would have been made fresh on Sunday or at the very least on Saturday? A Mueller's cake in the past would NEVER have tasted this lifeless and hard at the edges. I have sworn by them since we moved here 3 years ago but recently something is wrong. read more

Went to make a purchase of some goodies, just two hours before closing. , Walking up, I didn't see lights on so I looked and saw that the sign in the window was flipped to "CLOSED". Would I be wrong to proclaim that Mueller's is home to the most delectable crumb cake in New Jersey? Not only that, but their canoli and other assorted pastries are some of the best I have ever had. Wonderful cakes and pies as well - but the crumb cake and the canoli are top-notch. My parents have taken me here since I was in a stroller. We were lucky enough that our old shore house was only 4 or 5 blocks away. I remember being so young, accompanied by my parents and brothers, dropping into Mueller's to pick up our baked goods for the week... one of the most vivid memories I have as a child. The women at the counter used to give me a free cookie or two every time we stopped in, and to this day, the employees are still as warm and caring as ever. Service is not as sweet as their treats. Food quality: an easy 5/5 stars. It's the counter girls who work behind the counter that being this review down a peg. I've been going there for 2+ years, yet there is no warmth, chit-chat, (or even a smile) from the girls who work behind the counter. It's almost as if walking in and paying for a coffee and crumb bun (which is the most delicious treat you can ever have) is a major inconvenience to them. There are two iconic bakery treats from my childhood that are harder and harder to find. They used to be completely ubiquitous at any bakery in the tri-state area, but in-comprehensively are becoming impossible to find. These two items are the black and white or half and half cookie and crumb cake, the kind that is 3/4 crumb and 1/4 cake. I was in the general vicinity of Mueller's and made a special trip based on yelp reviews in regard to their crumb cake. When I arrived, I was thrilled to notice that they had black and white cookies as well and bought one of each. The crumb cake came in a bunch of different variations, frosted, powdered, with jam...I went for a piece of the classic frosted and one black and white cookie. The crumb cake was pretty good, there was plenty of crumb but I found it a little bit dry and the cake part, which I hoped would taste like a soft buttery pound cake, was super dry and had no flavor. On the other hand, it was still good enough to bask in it's existence and eat my way down memory lane. I saved the black and white cookie for last as it is really what I search for. A few years I found the Holy Grail at Baldanzas Bakery, it was perfect, a delicious, huge buttery cakey cookie, frosted in the exactly right consistency with vanilla and chocolate icing. Sadly, Baldanzas closed awhile back and I continued my search. Sure you can buy them at the grocery store now in mini form, but those knock offs have absolutely nothing to do with the cookie that I knew. With great anticipation and hope, I bit into the black and white cookie at Meuller's and...no...(sigh). This is an extremely thin cookie frosted with what appears to be the right kind of vanilla icing on one side and some kind of buttercream chocolate hybrid on the other. Major disappointment. So I would recommend the crumb cake, there were also many many other delicious looking baked goods that I did not try. On the other hand, save yourself the let down and stay away from the black and white cookies. read more

Very good and messy coffee/crumb cake. The cake is probably a half inch thick while the layer of cinnamon crumble on top is around one inch thick. Strange proportions but it works because the cinnamon sugar part is what tastes good anyway! I usually don't like coffee cake but this was quite nice but a tad too sweet for my tastes. Ordered a crumb cake because I've heard it's the best in NJ. Not by far in my opinion, too heavy on the crumb and little on the cake I prefer it the opposite. We didn't try anything else so I can't speak to anything other then my preference. What was nuts was the pick up line, waited about 40 minutes to pick up a pre paid order, got in line just past the walkway to the post office, so not more then 15 - 20 people in front of me but it moved at a snails pace, I'm not sure why the pick up on a holiday weekend hasn't been perfected. read more
