We were visiting Beach Haven/ LBI and needed a carrot cake. After reading reviews we landed on Crust and Crumb. I called to order a cake which they said they didn't do orders on a carrot cake and we'd have to come in one morning to get one. When I arrived on a Monday morning, the line was out the door! Wow this place. Crust & Crumb has an amazing GF selection. They had the most delicious rainbow cookies I've ever had and I've had a lot in my day. The carrot cake was so moist, the brownie was ok, the brookie was kinda dry, the chocolate glazed donuts were delicious, and the s'mores cookie bar was pretty damn good. Whatever you pick out of the display case you're going to like so get a bunch of stuff and make sure you pick up 2 rainbow cookie style crumb cakes. One to eat outside in that alley with the small tables so you can devour it while reading all the witty slogans on the dish towels hanging in the window of the shop next door and one to eat in the car at a red light. I decided to visit crust and crumble because I had heard about their cronuts. Since I never tried one, I decided todays the day. You're overwhelmed with all their selections as soon as you walk in. Cookies, cakes, donuts, cronuts, bread, they have it all. What caught my eye right away was the pepperoni and Asiago bread. It was delicious. Fresh and very well packed with meat and cheese. They also have an Asiago baguette I want to try next time! Onto the cronuts, I felt like they were just glazed croissants. I mean, trust me they're not bad but not what I was expecting. The cream filled was great, definitely jam packed. My favorite was the glazed, simple and great. The star of the show is here is their huge cookies. I got an m&m and a peanut butter to try. They're absolutely delicious. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and super ooey gooey inside. Yes, that's the technical term for the inside old the cookie. The only drawback is that they're $5 dollars each. It's a hefty cookie at a hefty price. Overall, a great bakery. The team behind the counter is quick and efficient. We tried a number of things over the course of a few visits and they were hit or miss. But 4 stars since it was more hits than misses. The m&m chocolate chip cookies are BOMB! Don't sleep on those. The donuts were also all delish. As was the crumb cake. The cinnamon bun was a miss - sooo dense and way too sweet. The real surprise was the gluten free peanut butter cookie - I would've sworn it wasn't gluten free! And it was nice that they had so many delicious looking gluten free options! read more

I stopped in today looking for a loaf of bread. The person that helped me was very kind. I asked him what kind of bread they had and he very patiently explained each of the breads to me. I decided on a basic baguette. I struck up a conversation with a woman behind the counter who was very nice. Not sure if she was the owner or the baker, but seems she was in control. When I had the baguette in my hand, I could tell that it wasn't fresh. I have a baking background and there was no crunch or crumb to the baguette. When I questioned whether or not the baguette was fresh, she assured me that it was. I got home, it was clearly not fresh. I understand that these businesses are seasonal and they have a limited time to make money but come on... if you're going to charge me $7.00 for a baguette, at least let it be fresh and when I question it.. don't lie to me. No crust, no crumb... it was clearly a day or two old. I'll add that it was a low humidity day so weather was not a factor. I'm giving two stars because the guy that waited on me was very kind. Crust and crumb bakery was such a good find in Long Beach Island! The donuts are made fresh daily, they are soft, the icing is delicious, the filling is delicious, they look nice and presentable. The crumb cake is moist. The asiago bread was great, I would recommend heating it up first if that is an option. We loved the elephant ear, it was huge, like an actual elephant ear but it was fresh and it tasted so good - it was very sweet with a little crunch. The cakes here were beautiful and although we did not try one I would definitely want one in the future should an occasion arise. Their display case in the morning when it was full looked lovely and there's pretty much nothing I wouldn't want to try here! For Julia Child's 100th birthday, our vacation party decided to bake a French dinner in her honor. For dessert, we decided we just wanted to buy some Eclairs and Napoleons, but none of the bakeries on LBI had French pastries except for the Crust and the Crumb. This was quite a hike since we were staying on the opposite side of the Island, but the yelp reviews convinced us the trek would be well worth it. The inside wasn't fancy, but it smelt of sugary delights. The selection was just the right amount of overwhelming. All the reviews told us to try the Elephant Ears. A sign informed us that they are a French pastry as well, so we ordered one along with our Éclairs and Napoleons. The staff wasn't the friendliest.. But the place wasn't busy and we appreciated getting in and out quick considering our small journey there. Elephant Ears: Delicious and light. Buttery and sticky pastry with just a hint of cinnamon. There is no way one person could finish this tasty but massive dessert in their own. Éclairs: Extremely rich, but delectable. I'm no éclair expert, but these were great in my books. The custard made the dessert a little heavy, but I still enjoyed this rich classic. Napoleon: I'd never had one of these, but I'd definitely try it again. This one was like a vanilla tiramisu, but a little lighter on the crust layers and a little heavier with the cream layers. Very rich and impossible for one person to eat alone as well! I'd definitely try this bakery out if you are searching for a cannoli or cupcake instead of the traditional summer time island sweets. read more
