I've been in Bloomington for work for about 7 months now and thought I had hit most of the good places. While I still haven't been in to Mugsy's, tonight at the recommendation of a local I took advantage of their half prince wing special for delivery. I called and got put on hold for a few seconds but then was greeted by a person who was clearly very busy. I had a few questions about the menu and the person who took my call was helpful. I finished my order and was told it would be about an hour. I was kind of bummed because I was pretty hungry. And it was SO worth it. The delivery person was friendly, arrived at almost the exact specified time and then I tore into my wings. I had three different flavors, the smoky chili, volcano and parmesan garlic as well as a side of cheese balls. None of it disappointed, and I'm looking forward to trying more and actually going in to the restaurant as well. One other thing - I've had a very hard time finding good blue cheese and real homemade ranch dressing in town and this place had both. Small detail, but homemade ranch tells me they take a little extra time in the kitchen because they care about the quality of the food. See you soon Mugsy's. Save me a seat at the bar! read more

Now I have been coming to Mugsy's Pub since my IWU days but I have not been back for years. The smokiness is gone and the pub now has an outdoor patio area and expanded the inside with plenty of TVs to watch every sport imaginable. I sat at the bar to re-live the past and ordered a cheesemugger with fries. It was as good as I remembered. Nicely toasted bun and juicy burger. But I still wasn't full and order a small order of mild wings (10 total). The wings were large and the flavor was just like it was in 1994. If I had more room in my stomach, I would have went for the pork tenderloin sandwich. The service is still top notch - Sarah was my bartender/server. If you're in need of a great burger then make sure to stop by here. The double cheesemugger will leave you stuffed. The cheeseballs are delicious. I find some places overcook them thus making the cheese very dry. I was not impressed with their waffle fries. Only about 4 resembled waffle fries. The rest were bits and pieces. It really wasn't worth the $1.09 upgrade. Also, the sign on the door states that after 9 pm only people 21 and over may enter so if you're underage get there early. read more

A very pleasant surprise!! Ever pull-up to a place and think...I don't know if thiamin going to be a good idea...thatbis exactly what I thought when I pulled up. But I was HANGRY!!! Once inside I found a very friendly and beer knowledgeable staff. 49 cent wings, plenty of TVs, good beer, fair whiskey. All and all a great value for the dollar. The wings are awesome. The rest, meh. So I got the wings, mild, and my fiancé got a bufallo chicken sandwich. Her's was meh (plain and the bun was pretty dry, the fries weren't good at all), but mine was incredible. I loved the wings. The place is a bar. Definitely don't come here if you are trying to be romantic or have a beautiful time somewhere. That being said, they're pretty good at what they do, which is wings. read more

This was my go to spot in college, and after a recent return to the area I can gladly say nothing has changed and Mugsy's is still the best place to enjoy some wings and beer. My favorite honey mustard sauce in the state, hands down. Nostalgia makes me love this place, and the food and atmosphere make me want to come back anytime I am on campus. read more

All hostess are cute and friendly which makes everything more fun! Nice drinks, (moscow mule in special ), great food and great atmosphere. Really worth checking it out. Mugsy's Pub - American Near Me - Bloomington, Illinois

Cheap, hot pub food and cold domestic drinks. It's exactly what it says on the tin, folks. Best wings in town and y'know what? Budweiser at $4 a pitcher (certain nights only) is pretty great. Mugsy's is my go-to when I'm hanging with my friends and that dreaded question comes up: "So where do you want to eat?" It's not fancy, it's not "a wacky new take on an old (ethnic) favorite;" it's burgers, wings, sandwiches, fried appetizers, salads--it's 85% of what chain restaurants do without shenanigans or flair. Maybe I should go to TGIF again before I beat them up for a third food review. I've always remembered them as "Eh." I digress. Last time I went, I had a hot ham & cheese sandwich and a pitcher of Bud. I was surprised when the sandwich came on marbled rye bread, but other than that it was nothing but satisfied expectations: hot food hot, cold beer cold, and happily enough I walked out of the place at around $9 before tip. Next time I'm there I'll try out their line of draft beers. There's quite a few there; I spotted Woodchuck, Sam Adams, and I think even Lagunitas IPA. For the longest time, this place only had Miller Lite and Budweiser. Anyway, if it's normal American/bar faire you're after, definitely give Mugsy's a shot. Ok so I stopped to ask a guy standing in an alley, smoking a cigarette, where a good spot to East was(I'm not from Illinois let alone Bloomington), and that seems to have been my first mistake. He did seem reputable at first glance, but.... so anyhow.... the waitress recommended the Hawaiian burger. It's a burger with grilled pineapple and bacon on it, which seemed like something I would like. I could not have been more wrong. The burger reminded me of the middle school cafeteria burger, and the bacon turned out to be bacon-bits??? Idk what the chef is thinking, but in sure it's not about creating delicious burgers. I was so turned off that I ordered some wings, because it seemed like people were enjoying them, and thank god.... they were actually pretty good. So... two stars cuz the wings were good, but only two because it's pretty hard to screw up wings. Used to think the same about burgers but now....not so much. Good cold beer though! read more

Typical college bar which turns townie during the summer break. Not very nice, dark, dank, a little dirty. Crappy beer selection on tap although there are a (very) small handful of decent bottles available. Food is typical college bar food. Greasy, fried and fast,but they have an apparently new to the menu French Dip style chicken sandwich that is fairly good. They also have a large outdoor patio so good place to go if you play team sports during the summer and want to get a quick bite and a cold beer after a game. read more

SO good. Just...REALLY good. I've only been in once, but my office orders delivery a lot, and it is always hot and delicious. Also, their ranch is THE BEST. I don't know what kind of addictive substance they put in it, but it is AMAZING. It's thicker and tangier than normal ranch. I love their cheese fries, and their salads are always so crisp and fresh. Fast friendly service. Most of the time we call ahead and pick up or get delivery but the atmosphere there is super laid back to dine in. The burgers are customized to your liking. best wings too with a lot of sauce choices. I am not a fries person but my kids love them. One of the best dive bars in all of Bloomington, IL. I spent many of great times in Mugsy's throught school. Check out there Bar menu as it is quite good! Wings wings and horseshoes ;) Great crispy wings... I like their sauces but I am not in love. The horse shoe is pretty good. They have wing specials on some days... We had two kinds of wings (Hot N Spicy BBQ and Mild). Both were great! The wings were a good size and the flavor was delicious of both sauces. Their bleu cheese is also really good. We also got cheese fries: best in Blo-No. We split a cheeseburger (called a cheesemugger) it was perfectly simple and very good. I had a Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer, too, which is always tasty. Absolutely terrible service. We watched people order food after us on a non-busy night and their food come out before our appetizer even did. We had to finally get the bartenders attention to ask about our food for her to even check on it. Our food came out, was taken to the wrong people first off and then when we finally got it, it didn't even include all of the items we ordered. Not a single thing was said or even a "Sorry for the wait or confusion". We typically give this place a lot of business but we're starting to re-think that now. If something doesn't change we won't continue giving them our business. read more

We just ordered 60.00 food and it was almost unedible. The pork chop was thin and way overcooked. The French fries were undercooked and cold. Steak sandwich was chewy and cold. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was the cheddar cheese balls which were pretty good and slightly warm. We have been ordering from them for years and have watched the food go way downhill. If you've got a hankering for some greasy, dive-bar fries and cheese"muggers", or wings even, you've got to make your way to this classic joint. Unless your in the witness relocation program, or a regular, you may want to do take out. Their chipoltle and 'volcanic' wings short order will do the trick, but I have several friends that down a large order- topping off 20+ wings in a setting. If you get the chipotle they include some jalapenos that will clean your sinuses for the next day or so; and if you're rounding 40, they may cause other problems as well. Love, love the wings. I prefer my wings well done. I think they're probably one of the best places with great wings. They are a little pricey. My last visit I ordered fries/onion rings also. Now those I was greatly disappointed in. The fries had no salt/flavor and the onions rings were undercooked with not much taste. I do wish they offered bags for carry out. Having MS makes walking somewhat difficult and I don't always remember to bring a bag with. After paying $30.00-$50.00 for wings....dropping them would not make me happy. The wings are PHENOMENAL. They've unfortunately recently shrunk the wing sizes, so you get the same weight of wings but they end up being a little more bone than chicken than before. I personally recommend the honey BBQ and chipotle mix for the wings... Their burgers are decent, nothing amazing but not bad. I'm also a big fan of the Reuben and the cheese balls. Delicious. They have specials on food during the week and different beers on tap. They introduced me to Shiner Bock on tap, delicious. Love the atmosphere, although it is most definitely a towny bar and you won't run into a ton of students here, which is definitely not bad. It's very laid back and the music can be interesting, to say the least. The prices aren't bad and the staff is usually pretty friendly. I love this place and get the wings every week, even if they've shrunk lately which is disappointing. read more

Half the staff is nice. The other half is extremely ride. I asked for a beer menu at my last visit and I got an eye roll and they pointed to their tap handles. I'm sitting 20-25 feet away. I cant see what they are. And the waitress was unable to tell me what they had. All you have to do is get Microsoft Word, save a template, and print out new beer menus when you swap out beers. Or educate your staff. You can get fancier, but that's a bare minimum. Wings are good, and large, but pricey. Add that to the ride staff and it isn't worth going here. I can assume this is a reflection on their Management or lack thereof. read more

My husband and I have been customers of this establishment for many years. We usually make an order for delivery once (sometimes twice) a month. On this particular occasion, we ordered cheese balls (with a side of ranch) along with our meal. Not only were the cheese balls not included, they were not on the ticket. We contacted them and made them aware of the error. They said they could send it out, but we would have to pay for them. They did include a side of ranch with our meal, which clearly shows we ordered cheese balls. I am very disappointed and expected more from Mugsy's.
