ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! My husband and I were visiting from out of town for my birthday and decided to pay some patronage to a mom and pop type business for a ring for my birthday!. We selected a ring and planned to reach out to the store owner to have the ring shipped. I left the store excited about my new ring from Coronado! We stopped in at a nearby restaurant for some appetizers and drinks and shortly after were approached by 3 Coronado police officers that searched us, handcuffed and detained us for an hour and half while a detective reviewed the surveillance footage. They said they had a "eye witness" that I stole a ring from this store!!!!! After an hour of people taking our photos and video for social media enjoyment, we were told that we were being released as the store owner "misplaced" the ring. Really? I can't express how awful it was to be detained by police in handcuffs -for over an hour with people laughing and taking our photos. Not to mention, my husband, who spent 30 years in law enforcement. However, when we contacted the business when they reopened after the holidays, and let her know she was amazing in helping find a length that worked for me. Not only did the owner take the time to educate me on the vintage and quality of my watch he fixed it and took excellent care of it. It took me a very long time to pick it up (almost a year!) and he kept it safe for me. I not only appreciated his professionalism, but his knowledge about my watch. Same experience as Ariana's. My fiance needed 5 watch batteries replaced at about $10 each. One of the watches was not sealed properly therefore damaged in the water. The owner claimed he didn't do anything wrong and wouldn't take responsibility. He could not guarantee his work and was extremely rude. Who does that? Times are tough and I don't know how a small business can stay afloat with such horrible customer service. read more

Renee at Muhl's Jewelers is great! I brought in two pain-in-the-ass watches to get serviced (change a strap and replace two batteries) and Muhl's did it for me no problems! Contacting Casio and Suunto is a pain in the butt! I know they were done right at Muhl's also. I've dealt with Renee and Mulh's before and will always recommend them for whatever needs done. The sales associate was extremely rude today. I asked if a ring was a yellow diamond and she was short and condescending. I asked her about pink diamonds and she said that all pink diamonds are truly pink and start at fifty thousand. She spoke down to me and my friends, who were just wanting to browse. My necklace is from Tiffany and Co. It was a very hostile, unpleasant environment. I will never go back. read more

My fiancee needed a stone replaced in her engagement ring and while we were dropping it off I left my Rolex there to be cleaned and have scratches in the crystal buffed out. When we got our items back they were like new. Rodney had brought my ratty old Rolex back to life. It was better looking than when I bought it used 15 years ago. The work on my fiancee's ring was just as meticulous. And he charged almost nothing. If I'd taken my Rolex to a certified Rolex shop they would have charged me $200-$300 to unnecessarily replace the crystal--I know, this has been my experience in the past. The shop is old and dusty and quirky looking but Rodney's the real thing. ****An update from 2013. Rodney sadly passed away but his daughter Renee has taken over the shop and she is a joy to work with. Brought back my Rolex for a broken mainspring. She sent it out to their Rolex guy who replaced it for a VERY reasonable price. There was a problem though. A smudge inside the crystal. Renee jumped on it and took care of the problem. I don't mind if mistakes are made as long as the merchant strives to make it right. Renee did and I still recommend this establishment. read more

Lady hardly bothered to pay attention to us, more interested in organizing her jewelry. We were the only ones in there. The other just sat there eating her bag of chips. How tacky. I have had nothing but excellent service when purchasing jewelry or repairing jewelry with Muhl. We have purchased multiple items from rings, earrings, necklaces and watches at Muhls and everything has been beautiful. I took my engagement ring which was also purchased here to be repaired about 7 years after my wedding, Rodney repaired my ring to perfection, it looked exactly like the day it was put on my finger! As far as watch repairs go, every time I have taken a watch in for repair/battery I have always been informed that once the back is open and the seal is broken the watch is no longer guaranteed water proof or water resistance. Rodney made my engagement ring, remade my husband's wedding ring after the original was lost, duplicated a much loved earring that I had lost, repaired many watches, and sold us many pieces of jewelry. We never once felt cheated or felt that he was rude in any way. I guess you might say that our relationship developed into a friendship, especially with our love of baseball. After Rodney's passing, his daughter Renae, who grew up in the business, has taken over the shoppe. She offers the same services, and then some. She just finished designing and making me a beautiful, one of a kind necklace, at the best possible price. If you have a problem, she will definitely make it right. Took Seiko chronograph in for battery replacement. After replacement, chronograph hands would not zero properly. Was told this wasn't fixable without removing the movement. Went home, looked up Seiko manual and there were the instructions on how to re-calibrate Seiko chronographs after a battery replacement to get everything to zero properly. Apparently they don't know how to do this or look it up on the internet or the manual. I found the answer in 5 minutes and fixed it myself. If they don't know how to re-calibrate/zero a fairly common watch, what kind of jewelers are they? If they don't take the time to look up a manual, what kind of jewelers are they? They're an old Coronado family, but so am I. I won't go to people who are incompetent and I'd advise caution in trusting them with anything expensive. read more

While vacationing, we walked by this store and saw a great pendant I wanted to buy. When we went in to buy it there were two people behind the counter, although I couldn't tell if one of them actually worked there. There was one customer who was being helped. However, the conversation turned to discussing homes and we stood there. No greeting from anyone, no acknowledgement that we were there, just a once-over look at us, and not a bit of help. We waited 15 minutes for this conversation to end, but it didn't and we continued to not be acknowledged or helped.
