I call this one an Ode to Muki Dogs: What hits the spot on a sunny day, Oh Muki Dogs--I'm glad you're here to stay, The sight of your smoke from across Mother Waldron Park, I'll dart your way just like a shark, As the smoke from your grill wafts through the Kaka'ako air, If I inhaled six of your hot dogs in front of a cute boy, I would not care. Flame grilled and perfectly seasoned, No matter the reason, My love for you only deepens, Oh Muki Dogs--I can count on you to make my day, Vegan hot dogs do you say? I would not have it any other way. Miso kake and the works galore, Oh Muki Dogs--you're the one I adore, Delicious and friendly always, I give you five stars, For hot dog carts everywhere, you set the bar, You can say my obsession with you is rather strange, But please oh please, don't ever change. Eugene, Mike, and Evan, you folks sure are great, For my next Muki Dog here, I cannot wait!

I've never gotten to try a beyond sausage before! My partner is vegetarian and always disappointed when he can't have anything at the hot dog stands in town. This place only has Beyond sausages available with a different variation on toppings. The owner was so sweet and told me about their other shop in Kaimuki, as well! I live near Waldron park so this location is super convenient. I immediately texted my partner and he's stoked to come try. My puppy loved them, too!

Got boba from Milky Way and wanted something savory to go along with it. This was me and my boyfriend's first time trying Muki Dogs and we were not disappointed!! It had so much flavor and perfectly complimented our sweet boba. We are not vegans but this definitely satisfied our hunger. Also great customer service! My bf was the one who picked up the hot dogs and the only reason he bought them was because he remembered I said I wanted to try some when we passed by. He really didn't know what to order so he asked for whatever. Nice guy gave us The Works and Miso Kake. Both were delicious but I think the Miso Kake was my favorite. I'm glad they're at this new location in Kakaako, I will definitely be stopping by again!

My very favorite hot dog! I even tricked my dyed in the wool meat eater friend to try it, and after he admitted it was tasty, I broke the news to him that it wasn't real meat. Super good service and excellent food! I'll always come back!

One of my longtime favorites is their Yuzu Lemonade, but I think the new Aloha Energy Drink may have officially taken the top spot. It has medical-grade beet powder, natural caffeine from guarana, ginseng, and maca -- and you genuinely feel the aloha and the power. Today I ordered the spicy Yakisoba, and the noodles had the perfect bite and mouthfeel. The salad was fresh and crisp, and while I personally could handle quite a bit more spice, I appreciate that they balance the heat so it's enjoyable and approachable for everyone without overpowering the dish. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is always welcoming. The chef is consistently friendly, the staff is kind, and the restaurant is always clean. It's such a great feeling being able to eat somewhere with confidence knowing they're using fresh, clean ingredients. Highly recommend SYOY! Deb B

The mai tai was unusual but palatable. The food was amazing! Still thinking about that Da Bao (Soy musubi patties, steamed buns, pickled carrots, daikon, jalapeños, cucumbers, cilantro, scallions, plum wine sauce) and how I'd like to eat it every day. The specialty rolls were works of art that were equally beautiful and had exquisite taste and texture. Manila Dune (Tempura pumpkin, spiced burdock, shredded tofu, avocado crema, chili, renkon chips) was dense but flavorful. Barbers (Smoked beets, spinach, avocado, soy strip, asparagus, rice crackers, seaweed pearls, spicy aioli, suspense) was intriguing as a little game of sushi roulette (hence the final ingredient). Whoever gets the spicy piece also gets the accompanying shot of sake. I was grateful my husband ended up getting that one because it was hot for him which means it would have been very hot for me. My only complaint with either of these specialty rolls is that each piece was quite large and therefor difficult to eat. I had to do the unconscionable thing and nibble away at it to comfortably eat it without it feeling like a choking hazard. Futo maki roll (Age tofu, spinach, shiitake, kanpyo, inari, pickled radish) was no less delicious for its simplicity. Quality was excellent, and everything on the menu sounded like something we wanted to try. We were so impressed by our meal we almost returned the following (our last) night. Lucky for us they have a restaurant in LA which I intend to visit next time I'm in town which is far more frequently than I'm in Honolulu. But would I consider flying to Oahu again for Tane Izakaya? Yes, yes I would.

I come here not even thinking about vegetarian food, I just want some delicious Asian food and whatever they put out there I'll eat it. They usually have the sweet and sour soup, but one day they had this lau lau soup with coconut milk in it that's so yummy. I don't consider this a Hawaiian restaurant but hey that's what they served that day, I'd try it and I hope they make it again soon! It's cafeteria style so you pick a size and choose your items. Add soup to make it a combo or not. Some dishes they offer include stir fry veggies with tofu or mock meat, tofu wrap, turnip cake, gyozas, broccoli with mock meat, fried rice, clear glass noodle stir fry, yellow noodle stir fry. I'm not sure if they use egg at all? I think so? Service has always been friendly. The ladies are all very nice. They speak Cantonese or mandarin as well. It looks like their Japanese cheese cake is always sold out. Guess next time I just have to go earlier. Place is big enough to fit a crowd. Mostly tables for up to 4 people but I think bigger groups can go to the back for more room. Congrats on 10 years and thanks for feeding us delicious and healthy food!

The starch base (noodles or rice) is always two scoops, so my parents like to get half & half (one scoop of each) for extra variety. I'm a noodle person, so I got noodles. The menu outside of that changes around, I think daily, but I don't think I have had anything from here that I didn't like! The veggie pancake they had on this last visit was especially tasty! My non-veg husband finds the food very filling, but otherwise likes it as well. The decor is relatively spartan but modern, like an upgraded cafeteria, and the workers and patrons do a pretty good job of keeping it all clean. Also, there's a couple of cold cases in the back where you can buy vegetarian mock meats and other items, which is worth checking out. My Mom and I are both big fans of their vegan rou song (shredded dried pork floss). We come here at least once every time we visit my parents, so safe to say I'll be back. Looking forward to the next visit!

I want this place to stick around! That being said I did not really like my meal. I want to believe it's on me for choosing the wrong combo but I had a couple of issues. First, at least when I went, the rice was sitting out in a separate dish and was room temperature. I would like the rice to at least be warm, even better if it had some fragrant flavor like saffron rice should but I didn't taste it. Second, I got the falafel, which is something best served fresh or it gets dried out, unfortunately it was very dry even when dipping in the tzatziki so I did not finish it. The harissa sauce mixed with tzatziki was really good so I'm hopeful that a fresh and hot falafel with warm rice would have been much better than what I had today. Willing to try again. The staff was young but sweet and helpful, no complaints there.

The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. The kouign amann seems like a popular item as we bought the last of them (we had wanted four, but there were only three) and it was still early afternoon. There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. This brought back memories of my experience here YEARS ago. Located in Nuuanu, just a few minutes by foot from Maemae School, GVB has been offering since 1991, a healthy dining option in a peaceful setting inside ISKCON Hawai'i Temple. They offer an AYCE option weekdays from 11am to 230pm. Upon arrival, my friends and I immediately noticed the calm atmosphere in the beautiful gardens of this Hare Krishna Temple. After paying for our meal we sat down on community long tables in their cozy dining room. The buffet line had a decent selection where standouts were the vegetarian lasagna, assorted curries and the fresh vegetables. Menu offerings change daily where notables include vegetarian lasagna, lentil nut loaf, samosas, quiche, assorted curries and halva. There's also mint ginger water and water offered. Service here is limited as it's pretty much do it yourself. So why only 4 stars? Food was nothing outstanding and the food temperature was not hot as I would have preferred. Eating some dishes such as curries, samosas and papadum would have better if eaten hot. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience here at GVB where I was finally able to try them. This is not a place I'd initiate a get together but wouldn't object if friends wanted to come here. Better late than never.
