Banana Berry Oatmeal
Rene D.

Wow! What an incredible breakfast. If you like oatmeal and coconut, I 100% recommend. The oatmeal is sweet from agave, with some coconut milk, bananas, and a berry blend (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries). It was the perfect amount of sweet and tart and a hefty portion. I ate half one day and half the other, so technically it only cost 4 dollars per day. There's space inside the restaurant to eat, and the employees are very attentive and care about the food they're making (this is a vegan restaurant btw). I can't wait to try their other breakfast offerings and the lunch menu!

"Mac and cheese" (squash pasta)
Lauren D.

As a non vegetarian, I was actually quite surprised with this Umeke Market, a healthy vegan/vegetarian lunch spot because I normally don't feel full or enjoy that type of food. I got the chili, fake chicken, Mac and cheese and vegetable curry. The chili with the rice was the best part of the meal. It was hot and had a lot of flavor! The fake chicken didn't taste like chicken at all.... More like dried/fried chewy tofu. The curry was just so so... I didn't eat all of it and didn't like that it wasn't served hot. The "mac and cheese" was actually squash pasta and was kind of terrible tasting. Too mushy like for me and didn't quench the pasta craving. If I were to go back, I would only order a bowl of chili rice! That was yummy! They have lots of indoor seating which is nice when it's hot out. They don't offer bathrooms though. If you want to stop by but don't work downtown, park at Alii Place, parking is only $.75 per half hour. Service was very friendly, it's an order at the front and pick up your plate lunch then go sit down kind of place.

Nice, friendly workers. Didn't realize it was a vegan place until I looked at the menu. The ambience was super chill and there was AC and a decent sized dining area. The plates were huge! I shared two entrees with a friend, the falafel gyro came with cashew queso and chips and then the nachos with chili and veggies and mock chicken. It was really interesting, if you're a vegan you're gonna love this place! If you've never had vegan food, I think you'll like it but you might not LOVE it. The mock chicken was good, my friend didn't care for the texture, I thought it was delish. I also really like the cashew queso. I thought the falafel gyro was kinda dry and would've been bomb with that cashew queso inside. All in all, I thought this place was great and I'd visit again to try other things from the menu. If you're looking for a healthy, cool (AC) place to sit down for lunch in downtown this is it. I also wanna try their smoothies next time!

Tamale Bake (special of the day)
Michiko L.

Great place, great food and super friendly staff. The special today (Tues) was the Tamale Bake. Oh my!!! If you ever come when it's available, you should try it- now that's if you love cornbread. It comes with a side of salad or rice or half of both. The prices are reasonable for vegan restaurant. We will come again. Tip: as a visitor, I didn't know where to park. They suggested ALI'I PLACE. See my picture for parking address.

The staff were super cool; and once my friend disclosed his gluten allergy, he made sure to reiterate what items were cleared. I don't have a gluten allergy and ordered nachos topped with chili and mock chicken. The "chicken" had a bit of sweetness to the batter, the chili was delicious, and the other sauces and toppings brought together a unique flavor for nachos. These were some of the best nachos I've had! The portion was huge; enough for two to share! I'll definitely stop by Umeke on a future trip to the city.

Tasty Tuesday 12/17 Tamale Bake This is cornbread filled with bell peppers, organic black beans, local organic mushrooms, & organic corn.

I haven't been Umeke for a while and just thinking about it yesterday; I decided to try today's special when I woke up this morning. I rarely eat out alone because foods just taste better at home. But I have a few places that I would go and enjoy dishes that I don't usually eat or new dishes that I don't even know it exists. This place has everything I care about. They use local organic fresh produce supports local, sustainable lifestyle; and yes, most importantly anything I had so far, very tasty. I haven't try any breakfasts so that's my next list of things to explore. It's very reasonably priced for the quality you get. Plenty of seating spaces inside and outside of the shop. It's usually busy when I go there, but as the line gets longer, someone comes out and take your order before you reach the cashier. You can order online and request the time of pickup as well. Highly recommend to try if you haven't yet.

Leakage from the top.

I am so grateful this place exists. I feel the aloha just as much in the meal I enjoyed today as I did when I first tried Umeke Market years ago. Aloha is in the service and the ambiance. This place is a gem that is worth making the trip to downtown earlier in the day. Mahalo for being here! My only recommendation would be to get spill-proof containers for the liquid foods. My plate lunch was leaking all over on the way home

Perfect schedule! Combine with perfectly delicious food and perfectly trained staff with tons of Aloha!
Paul K.

Wow! Rarely can you combine healthy and delicious in the same sentence but this store is amazingly delicious and incredibly healthy! The staff are full Of Aloha and their prices are in line with reality! Not to mention, they're perfectly located for everyone downtown to be here to pick up or eat in the café style restaurant this class enclosed. Hope to see you here someday.!

Don't just enjoy the rainbow you can fill your health with it as well... Located in Bishop Square 'Umeke Market is 100% Vegan offering Breakfast (8am-10am) Lunch (1030am-2pm) with everything from Salads, Sandwiches, Nachos & Tacos, even Build Your Own Plate Lunch all which is quite overwhelming my indecisive noggin so I did go for the Portabella Sandwich. This yummy sandwich is loaded with diced portabella mushrooms which was marinated in balsamic sauce and topped with tomato lettuce, vegenaise and dairy-free provolone all on your choice of ciabatta roll, multi-grain bread or pita bread. All sandwiches comes with choice of organic greens or organic tortilla chips & queso (which is made from cashews) I got mine on a multigrain with chips & queso. I tell you what a delightful bite so light yet full of flavor I savored each and every bite...though whenever it didn't fall apart lol! It's not the large portabella cap but baby Bella mushrooms so the choice of pita may be the way to keep it all contained as if it didn't keep falling out the leaf lettuce was a difficult bit which I though since the mushrooms are in bits wished the lettuce was shredded to make it an easier bite. Though I'm not vegan I do fully enjoy the freshness it all brings and I wasn't used to the cashew queso and after a few bites was craving some fresh salsa that I know would've paired best with the mushroom sandwich. Certainly parking is a challenge in this neighborhood and parking at Ali'i Place is recommended. There's so much going on here including art decor on the wall is for sale as well. The staff here is so enthusiastic and friendly, please follow them on Instagram at @umekemarket and if pictures are worth a thousand words it would leave you breathless... Thank you!

We walked in and was greeted with the Aloha Spirit and beautiful smiles. We were first timers and tried the nachos, burrito, Tofu Poke and mixed grinds.. It was so good I didn't get to take a picture of the burrito. We felt full and satisfied. The sitting area is nice they have local music playing. When you leave they greet you on your way out too. They have trash and recycling bins which is awesome.

Downtown lunch options are essential to "loving your job." Right?! Bored with lunch and the workday may not be so wonderful. Tried this spot for the first time. I am not vegan. I appreciate the vegan lifestyle. This place is delicious!!! I was with two friends for lunch, hours are open until 2pm. Great menu options, and we peeked online before visiting, so we had an idea of what to order. They gave great recommendations! Pictures don't tell the yummy story, so go try this spot. Salty, so I did feel thirsty later, but it's worth it. The forks broke. They said it was an issue with the batch received.

Been going to this amazing `Āina based , vegan food, plant based restaurant shop for a while now whenever I'm in Honolulu Hawaii I make it a point to grab some lunch . Ambiance is simple and easy to order and get your food quick which I love . Made fresh in the back or order from the amazing buffet. Always fast friendly service . Love how they serve a lot of tradition Hawaiian food . Kalo stew and anything with Ulu i definitely go for . Can't wait to go back . Parking can be a little tricky I need to find out where the garage parking is .

Three of us got the Iron Man Sandwich (only one of three got "spicy" and it was apparently not super spicy, so spice wimps like me could probably handle it), and my mother got the cheeseburger. The three of us with the Iron Man liked ours, but my Mom wasn't impressed with her burger. My husband also got a banana and peanut butter smoothie (the "nutty banana"), and my parents got the Nutella chocolate milks, and everyone was pretty happy with their drinks! The location itself is pretty cute and small, and appears to be operated solo by the lady we assumed to be the owner and eponymous "Blondie." She was really friendly and helpful while we were trying to decide what we all wanted (we can be a slightly indecisive bunch). I thought the wall of little index cards illustrated by various patrons showing where they were from was a really nice touch! We chose to sit indoors, since outdoor tables that would take four were occupied, but it might be noisy out there with the proximity to the main road. Inside the music can be a little loud, too, but the lady behind the counter turned it down some for us, which was kind of her to offer. Overall a decent little vegan sandwich shop with a great smoothie and drink selection! I think if my husband and I are about town on our own on our next visit to the islands, we might stop by again, but my parents will probably opt for other things given that my mother never gets beyond a first impression. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for a nice vegan meal and beverages!

What did I enjoy...well thanks to Nadine and some gift certificate she had it was a generous morning of fresh pineapple juice with breakfast sandwich on English muffin all vegan and plant based was just so light and refreshing which is a great way to start my day. The service is always so friendly at this family owned and run biz as they still keep to their amazing menu and vibe that they have here is just so nice and relaxing place. Thank you!

The fish was perfectly crispy with fresh slaw and really creamy sauces. The tortillas for the tacos tasted very fresh too, which made them even better. Both entrées came with lemon wedges that added a nice bright touch. The fish and chips were great and the fries were perfectly crisp. I still think about the crème brûlée. The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. I cannot speak to parking since we walked. The mai tai was unusual but palatable. The food was amazing! Still thinking about that Da Bao (Soy musubi patties, steamed buns, pickled carrots, daikon, jalapeños, cucumbers, cilantro, scallions, plum wine sauce) and how I'd like to eat it every day. The specialty rolls were works of art that were equally beautiful and had exquisite taste and texture. Manila Dune (Tempura pumpkin, spiced burdock, shredded tofu, avocado crema, chili, renkon chips) was dense but flavorful. Barbers (Smoked beets, spinach, avocado, soy strip, asparagus, rice crackers, seaweed pearls, spicy aioli, suspense) was intriguing as a little game of sushi roulette (hence the final ingredient). Whoever gets the spicy piece also gets the accompanying shot of sake. I was grateful my husband ended up getting that one because it was hot for him which means it would have been very hot for me. My only complaint with either of these specialty rolls is that each piece was quite large and therefor difficult to eat. I had to do the unconscionable thing and nibble away at it to comfortably eat it without it feeling like a choking hazard. Futo maki roll (Age tofu, spinach, shiitake, kanpyo, inari, pickled radish) was no less delicious for its simplicity. Quality was excellent, and everything on the menu sounded like something we wanted to try. We were so impressed by our meal we almost returned the following (our last) night. Lucky for us they have a restaurant in LA which I intend to visit next time I'm in town which is far more frequently than I'm in Honolulu. But would I consider flying to Oahu again for Tane Izakaya? Yes, yes I would.

There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go.
