I have attended several concerts and other events at Mulcahy's over the years, and at the 25th anniversary event I attended in 2008, I received an anniversary membership card (by paying a cover charge for that night). This Membership card promised that for the next 25 years I would be "ENTITLED TO FREE ADMISSION FOR ALL EVENTS AND NATIONAL CONCERTS AT ANY OF OUR LOCATIONS AND INCLUDING FRONT OF THE LINE STATUS." This is all printed on the card. And for a few years it worked. Tonight, however, I was denied access to an event at the pub. When I had stepped up to the front of the line to enter the pub, I was asked to go to the back of the line. I tried to explain to the bouncer that I had the exclusive membership card, and it allowed me access to skip the line at events, but he told me to get in the back of the line. So I did, I understood that bouncers aren't usually the most accommodating people, and I didn't want to make a scene in front of all the other patrons who were waiting outside the bar. When I finally reached the front of the line I spoke to the bouncer again, further explaining what the card was and how it works. He told me that the card was no longer being accepted, because a few people went to "Kinkos" and made copies of the card. I understood his reasoning, but that was not my problem; the card promised me entry to the pub, it was their job to weed out the fake cards. I then asked to speak to the manager, and he refused to allow me to speak with one. I was appalled, since this is a basic principle of customer service that he was apparently not taught. I returned to my car and called the pub. I got hold of someone who told me a completely different story. The person I spoke with told me that they were not honoring the membership card tonight because it was an outside promoter's show. I wish that the bouncer knew what he was talking about or that he had permitted me to speak with someone who did. He made it sound as if my membership card (that I've used for the past 11 years) were no longer good. Whenever I attend events at Mulcahy's using the card, I always make sure that I spend some money in the venue to support their establishment. Needless to say, I'm not likely to go there again, whether my card permits me access or not. Local business should stick to their word when they market promotions such as this, since their entire business hinges on keeping regular customers satisfied. In the past, I always spoke highly of Mulcahy's, but I am very disappointed in how I was treated tonight. read more

First time here....went on a Friday night, when they have live bands. Cover was $12 and I definitely got my money worth. This venue is huge. It has two bars, plus an outdoor patio that holds another bar. I believe the total maximum occupancy is 650. Band and music was great. The people are nice. Dress casual. read more

Im not that big of a fan normally but its a great place to go for Football Sunday and UFC fights. Tons of screens for the games and fights and the wings are pretty good. Not much of a beer selection if you are into craft beers but its good with a crowd for the games. read more

Came here for new years eve and needed to share this experience. The bartender working at the front bar was so rude to me. Im a very laid back person who really tries not to write bad reviews and I understand the stress of serving a thousand people and working new years but- I had been waiting to order a drink with a few friends and when it finally was my turn, a blonde haired blue eyed girl just walked behind me. The bartender looked at me and immediately turned her head to serve the girl who just walked up. Im not sure if that was her friend or what but when I told her I was there first waiting she told me "ok, and you'll go after her." Serving a blonde haired blue eyed girl before me... Then being completely rude to me. I'd say thats quite discriminatory behavior and maybe management needs to talk to their servers. Pretty pissed that i spent that much money for someone to treat me like that. Will definitely not go back and will make sure my friends and family wont either. read more

I think just about everyone I know on Long Island goes to Mulcahys for either happy hour, live bands, or Out of the Weeds (Monday nights during the summer). It has everything which is why I love going. The dance floor is huge, perfect for dancing! And they always have really good bands-especially cover bands. Now during the summer they have their newly expanded outdoor bar area which is where I spend most of the night when it gets too hot inside. Kind of a downside is that it gets really crowded by 11:30, but since it is so big it usually doesn't get too out of control. The one reason I couldn't give this bar 5 stars because they do charge admission (about $10) and the drink specials aren't always the best. BUT, if you want to go to one of the most social bars on LI Mulcahys is definitely the place to be. read more

However, I was the designated driver one night and found I was paying more for a ginger ale than my friends were for beers and mixed drinks. First Annual Tacos & Tequila Fest - Sunday Feb. 16, 2020...this was a TERRIFIC event! It was extremely well organized. There were over a dozen food (Taco) stations from numerous Long Island Restaurants, as well as over a dozen premium and super premium Tequila and Mezcal brands. All the stations/tables were well laid out throughout the expansive venue...it definitely got very busy (I understand it was a sold out event)...but you could still move about. The music was excellent - with a great sound system, they alternated between a DJ and a Reggae "one man band." Toward the last hour of the event (3-4 hours long), the crowd was treated to three exotic young women dressed in colorful sexy outfits complete with feathered headdresses along with pulsing African tribal music...after their show on the stage they circled the entire space and were engaging patrons to dance along with them! In addition, the staff security was well placed throughout the large space, kept everyone safe, and were not intrusive. It was such a great event, you would think Mulcahy's hosted this event for the last ten years...but this was their first! WELL DONE MULCAHY'S!!! Thank you for such a great time. My friends and I will be back next year. read more

I'd give negative stars if I could. I went to their advertised "90s night" fireball shots and mixed drinks are advertised at a certain price, but the bartenders were told otherwise. We were charged $4 for shots advertised at 3.50 and when I ordered generic mixed drinks they charged me for top shelf prices. The manager claimed they use top shelf unless specified. I've worked and been to bars all over the world and never in my life has a bar instituted their employees to pour top shelf liquor when a customer asks for a vodka and soda. According to the advertisement, my bill was $65, however I was charged $195. When we spoke to he manager, I stood up to speak to him over the music and not only was he arrogant and condescending, he had the nerve to summon security. I didn't act in an aggressive or angry manner, and I'm about 5'6" yet they needed three bouncers all over 300lbs to accost me. I'll be contacting the BBB as well as my bank to dispute the outrageous bill. If the general manger of this club cares at all about the reputation of his or her establishment, he or she will see this review, but judging on the prior reviews, they really don't care about customer satisfaction. They have 2.5 stars for a reason. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT. go across the street and get twice and many drinks for half the price. Mulcahys is running a crooked racket, and I seriously hope they get shut down. Lord knows how many customers they've conned with false advertising before my wretched experience. The manger should be immediately relieved of his position since he lacks the knowledge of basic customer service. You've all been warned. I have a love/hate relationship with Mulcahy's. This place is good if you are really in the mood to party. On Saturdays there's a DJ who plays 95% techno (I happen to be a r&b/house fan when I go out) so you have to be into that, not to mention he's a complete tool that gets really into his work...I mean like throwing his arms up in the air and dancing while he's DJing...it just looks strange. Anyway, go here on a Saturday night when you're not driving, throw back a couple of overpriced cocktails (I paid $9 for an Alabama slammer eeeek!) and enjoy yourself on the dance floor. Hot as hell, no ventilation at all, other than the open doors to the "outdoor smoking section". Smokers stand by the door to see the show, and you can see that the dance floor is full of smoke when the flash-grenade-like lights move over it, but you can't smell any smoke over the other odors. The place reeks like a high school gym locker room, only stronger, and with skank beer on top of that. I've heard good bands frequent this place so I checked it out this weekend. I have never had such a terrible bar experience. The band was great but I unfortunately didn't stay to enjoy it long because I could not get a drink from the bartender. He continuously acknowledged my presence but never came over to me to ask what I wanted. This happened about four times before a "staff" member (wearing a shirt that said staff) finally handed me a water bottle. The very last time I had gotten the bartender's attention I asked for water because I did not even want alcohol anymore from being so peeved; he persisted to ignore me. So once I got the water I walked out. My friend had been there the night before and said the same thing happened to her with a different bartender. I will not be going back there again. read more

Last night was not my first time at mulcs, however this is the first time I have ever wrote a review on yelp about a business. I have spent the last 8 years going to mulcs and thousands of dollars paying their insane prices. Never did I once have a problem with it until last night. In the past you would go to mulcs, show your big shot card and not have to pay any sort of cover which was usually no more than $5 anyway, and there was somewhat good deals that you weren't feeling robbed by the end of the night. Me and my girlfriends used to walk into mulcs for happy hour on a Friday and stay till after 2am because we never wanted to leave, and we'd sometimes go back on a Saturday night and relive the night before. We did this for months until Mulcahys bouncers went on a power trip and the place got way to big for their name. We stopped coming here when we noticed each night was deader then the weekend before, and maybe we weren't the only ones starting the realize how annoying and rude the staff was, and how the "deals" on drinks were complete bullshit! Over the years we would come back sporadically to see if anything had changed, it didn't- oh yea except for the "new ownership". We decided to go last night to see big shot, which even if its advertised for them to start at 8pm, don't plan on them coming on till well after 9:30pm. When we showed up there as a $12 cover!!!! With ZERO drink specials. They don't accept the big shot card anymore, and when a friend of mine tried to pay with her credit card, they didn't have a working machine and the ATM didnt work. The manager followed us inside and made sure the bartender added $12 to my friends credit card, and then the bartender proceeded to charger us $8.50 a drink!! We thought she misunderstood what we ordered, but she didn't - that's what it cost for a vodka seltzer. It was def a new staff and I must say all of the bartenders were nice so it's not their fault what the bar charges for drinks, however it will be their fault when they stop making money because after 3 rounds and no buy backs we all immediately stopped tipping. Lastly, can someone explain to me how I had 2 vodka drinks before going out, and then 6 vodka drinks while I was out and I was no where even near buzzed? I just finished a semester of school, barely drink, am a lightweight, 115 lbs.... How is that possible? If I had a car there i probably couldve driven home because I was in no way drunk. After 8 drinks for a girl like me, I should've been carried out by ambulance. This goes for my other 2 girlfriends as well. The only one of us who got any sort of buzz was my friend that came late and ordered their cheap already prepared wine. All in all last night was the end of an era for me and my group of friends. It is very disappointing that it has come to this since I spent all of my early 20s here and it's right down the road. They should turn this place into a Chipotle, we got enough bars in this town. read more

I feel like people on come on Yelp to write negative reviews.. and it is sad to see a great place like Mulcahy's getting bad reviews because someone doesn't know how to go out and have a good time. Mulcahy's is Long Islands biggest bar/music venue. It is amazing to see the talent they get to perform right in Wantagh. If you come on here to complain that Mulcahy's is too big and crowded, go hangout at applebees, where you belong. My wife and I love going out to see Big Shot (who doesn't, the band is so good!) but also for 90's night! 90's night is every Friday at 10pm and it is so great! They have Bud Lights for cheap, great bands, a terrific DJ, and we even caught a Boy Band Tribute called Larger Than Life that made my wife so happy. If you want to go out and have an absolute blast, Mulcahy's is the spot! read more

To start the only reason I downloaded this app is to explain my extreme dissatisfaction with this place. Never in my life have I been this upset and I satisfied with anything in my life. I arrived at 1030 expecting a band to be playing that was advertised. I paid $10 for an entrance fee, which was acceptable for live music, but the band didn't start till 45 minutes later. The worst part is the service. By the time I got a bartender, in what is a low showing of people, I was charged $12 for a very watered down drink that was horribly upsetting that was also filled to the brim with ice and had no quantity or liquid, after 3 sips I was finished. So besides the lack of people here, the false and late advertisement of music, and horribly watered down incredibly expensive drinks, I had such a terrible experience I can honestly say I'd be happy to never come back here again. I had heard so many great things about this place but after going there the other night, I will never come to this place again. I paid twenty dollars to get in, and spend $100 dollars on drinks for me and my friends. The drinks were so watered done, not a single one of us got even close to tipsy. They don't even mix the drinks in front of you so it's really sketchy! We went out for a really great time and left totally disappointed. Went to Mulcahy's for the 80's freestyle Concert on July 27th, 2013. They opened the doors at 8pm to the outside bar, let us in at 9pm, they didn't start the show until 11:20pm and it must have ended after 1:30am. The problem I have with that is: 1. they never posted when the show was starting. Most of the people there assumed between 9 and 10. 2) Most of the crowd was between 36 and 45 years old, which means most, had young children at home with babysitters. It was ridiculous to start a show that late with the generation it was geared towards. If it was for a young crowd in their 20's completely understandable, but not 35-45. So many people in the crowd were complaining about the same thing. THE TIME...It was a nice show unfortunately we had to leave before it ended due to babysitters etc. Therefore, I will never go to Mulcahys for another appearance or show again. read more

went to the Zebra show Jan 14th....what a shit show this place is... there greed never seems to stop.... dangerously over crowded ..show was a sold out show..there was a line of a few hundred people hoping to get in...AN THEY DID !!! FROM THE FRONT DOOR TO THE STAGE WAS EAR TO EAR.....couldn't get to the bar to get a drink...ordered food that never came...BUT THE BILL DI !!!!! if ya made it into the bathroom the floor was covered in a half inch of piss...couldn't get to the outside for a smoke...pushing and shoving threw out the crowd..my other friend were in the vip section and once they left they couldn't get threw the crowd to get back in......when I went to the door to complain the guy with the headset was rude as hell...I asked to see the occupancy tag which was not displayed anywhere...drinks were a little pricy but everybody's gotta pay there rent....we had to leave before Zebra even took the stage ...total worst experience I ever had.....not even worth one star... read more

I went to see Social Distortion play on August 3 at this place and was very disappointed. The venue and or the promoter totally oversold the show making it disgustingly packed to the point that my friends and I couldn't stand even close to the stage without feeling like cattle. I've been to hundreds of shows and have always been able to stand comfortably and watch bands play without having people move (push and shove) nonstop throughout the entire performance. The majority of the people at the show were rude, annoying and obnoxious and seemed to have no awareness of how to handle themselves at a punk show ( yes there is a way to conduct yourself without being an asshole). The venue itself I'm sure is great as a bar but as a concert venue it is awful. Not to mention no speakers by the bar area so you cant even hear the show when you get pushed back there by lame ass fucking long islanders who are there just for fuck's sake and not to watch an amazing band like Social Distortion (who were awesome). read more

My wife and I went to Mulcahy's on a Friday night to see a Zeppelin tribute band, Zoso. We are from the north shore of Long Island and are not in Wantagh area much, and have never been to Mulcahy's. Easy drive down Route 135 and then a mile west on 27. Parking would have been very tough had it not been for someone leaving a spot right in front of the place as we cruised past it, so we lucked out there. Was advertised as a 9:00p show. Tickets to the show were $12 each in advance ($15 at the door) and woman who answered my questions on the phone earlier in week, as well as the Manager Tim who took my credit card info for the tickets, were both very nice. $12 was a reasonable cover to see a great live act such as this. We arrived about 8:30 figuring we should get a good spot at bar and to view the concert. It wasn't crowded at all when we walked in.. I was actually concerned at how empty the vast concert area was after expecting the place to be packed. Large spacious area leading up to the stage. Two large 360-degree bars close to the stage. No stools so we had to stand for three hours which turned out to be fine (all stools are removed from both bars near stage on concert days). Between 9:00-9:30, about 100 people filed in, and by time show started at about 9:45, there was a very comfortable crowd with plenty of space to move around. By the start of the show, the place was rocking, unlike an hour prior. Crowd was mainly in the 30-50 range and very nice bunch of people there to see a great show. When we first arrived there was an hour to kill and we were talking to the young 20-something female bartenders and they were very sweet and friendly girls. Also spoke to a Staff guy behind the bar who also was very nice (even offered to get us a stool if my wife would get tired of standing). Bar was appropriately staffed and were very attentive and pleasant. Decent tap beer selection consisting of standard fare as well as a few microbrews. $7.50 pints. We had 5 pints total and spent $45 with tip.. not too bad. I also expected, for a 50-year old venue with live music, for the place to be filled with a bunch of sloppy college-type kids, with sticky floors and stale beer smell. I actually expected it to be a hole in the wall. Quite the contrary.. oddly, the place smelled fresh inside, and not only was the crowd great, nicely dressed and fun, the place was extremely CLEAN and well-ventilated. Place was well staffed and very well run. They had a VIP raised table area off to one side, with linen on tables. A few of those tables were taken. Quite updated inside, with many HD screens on walls and-- get this-- clean nicely furnished bathrooms! No issue at all with the restrooms which was a pleasant surprise for what I thought the place was going to be. They did a nice job with such an old place/building. Overall, we had a great evening at Mulcahy's listening to a great Led Zep band, Zoso. It was a very pleasant experience, better than I expected. We will certainly return again if there is a band we want to see.. read more
