On a multi day camping adventure at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore we found ourselves in Munising on the hunt for lunch. Being that we were in the UP eating at least one pasty was on our 'list of things to do'. Weighing our odds of what could be a tasty place to get pasties we landed on Muldoons II given that it was a walkable distance to where we were parked.   We took our pasties, one chicken and one beef, to go. Finding a little cove overlooking Lake Superior we had a car picnic. (Much to the dog's dismay he didn't get any!) The filling in mine was potatoes, carrots, and a beef mixture. Very light on the salt and pepper (or any other noticeable spices). The bulk of the filling was potatoes. It wasn't just potato heavy, it was potato laden. Overly laden in regards to filling ratio but I am guessing that pasties are as varied as any other 'prized' regional food. Would I prefer my next pasty to be less potatoes? For sure! The crust was beautiful in how well it held together as I ate it like I would any other hand pie. I am assuming it was a hot water crust. The durability was welcomed as with such a large hand pie a crust that isn't sturdy would have been a disappointment and a huge mess! The crust was lacking in the flavor department and could have benefitted from more salt -or any salt- being added to the mixture as it was being made. I'll be honest, the gravy that my wife got with hers had a peculiar aftertaste. Like weird and not exactly palatable. Having no reference point I can't say if this is something that pasty side gravy always tastes like or if something was off. I can say that this southerner, who's all about some gravy, did not care for it in the least. I chose not to get gravy with my beef pasty so I have no input on how that is at Muldoons II. Is this the best pasty in Munising? Probably not but if you want a quick grab it works! read more

We stopped here for a quick bite to-go, and so we could try the UP classic food, pasties. I got two vegetable pasties to go at $6.25 each. Pasties are like small, round pot pies. In my opinion, one pasty is enough for two people, making it a good value. The crust was nice and thin, and not greasy. The filling included mostly potatoes along with some carrots. It would have been nice to have some other veggies in there. Not very flavorful by itself, so a little hot sauce would be a nice boost. The shop was quaint. No tables inside, but a few outside. They also sell some beverages, fudge, and some sort of local toast snack. read more

Pasties are super tasty, super duper tasty. Apple was prepared perfectly with a crisp folded edge, sprinkled with sugar with a tasty cinnamon filling that is just delicious. Today they also had blueberry pasties and of course thd more savory versions, however, we are suckers for sweetness. They have frozen pasties for later or travel. They have warmed toasty pasties in the case, ready to be your next tasty handheld snack or meal. read more

Best pasties in Munising by far!! Service is nice fast and easy. As for the ambiance it's a nice little house with a small gift shop inside. The seating is outside but personally I don't mind because I always get the food to go. read more

The have to try food of the Upper P is the pot pie like Pasties ... prounounced paaastee.. You have the choice of chicken, beef or veggie and there are dessert Pasties also. They are very filling. The orginal one out of town makes the pasties but has fudge. The new location in the small town makes the fudge but has the pasties. Both locations are small. This a must try. I am not a fan of meat or gravy .. i know im odd and picky. so i got the veggie and it was very plain. I think if you got the meat one and put some gravy with it .. you will like it just fine. but the dessert was definitely yummy. didn't try the fudge .. wish we did. read more

Ordered a traditional pastie with a side of beef gravy, a pie of the day today was blueberry and some peanut butter fudge for later tonight. What a find this place is! Quick friendly service. Coming from Chicago, I had never heard of pasties before (pronounced path-steez) but I saw signs for them all over Michigan. Muldoons II was in the heart of downtown munising so it was convenient to stop by between activities. This was a great first pastie experience! I ordered the chicken pastie with gravy - I wish there was hot sauce because it was a little bland. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's beef pastie and it was SIGNIFICANTLY more flavorful! I highly recommend the beef pastie + gravy. The apple pastie was incredible also - they know how to make a mean crust! I liked how while waiting in line, there is a viewing window into the kitchen to see how pasties are made. read more

While the size was great and could easily be shared, I could find anyone else in my family to share it with me. The pasties were dry no matter how much gravy you put on it, there wasn't much meat, there was a very thick crust, and lacked flavor. Service was great; the girl working there was very friendly and nice. I've heard from locals that a change in ownership brought down the quality of these so I hope they get their act together and meet the standards their history is known for. If you're craving a pasty in the Munising area, go to Miner's or the Au Train grocery store instead. read more

I grew up eating Pasties. Other than being the shape the comparison ends there. The flavoring is poor at best. They are using a 14" pie crust and using 8 oz of filling. You end up with semi baked dough surrounding the filling. It appears that they have kept same size dough and only use half the filling. They end up being cooked way to long and the filling is dried out. They sell gravy to go with it. That's something I have never seen. Needed do to the dried out filling. Their prices are through the roof for what you get. Just move on and save your money. read more

Excellent pasties with a soft delicious crust! I had the traditional with beef, potatoes and carrots. Excellent! Comes with gravy or ketchup. Best to take these home to warm up along with the gravy. Visiting from out of state and reaearched places for four days to try pasties. Decided on this place. It was ok... generous in size. Filled with potatoes, rutabagas, beef and some carrots. Kind of dry. Wish the girl working would have asked if we wanted to purchase a side of gravy because it would have made it much better. Lesson learned. Hope this helps someone. read more

This was my second Pasty while in the UP. These were very heavy so I figured it was loaded with goodness. We had both chicken and beef with gravy. The gravy was very flavorful. The pasty filing was more congealed than I would have liked. The pasty is already made up and kept in a warmer so there was no waiting. Would recommend for a fast meal. read more

Fresh, delicious and super friendly service! Tried beef, chicken and vegetable. Meat finally ground. My husband didn't get gravy to save calories however he ended up sharing mine. These are ver large and you could share one and be full. We ended up saving one to enjoy the next day. read more

Stopped in for lunch. Tastiest pasties I have had. Asked for extra gravy but didn't really need it. My husband and I both got the beef but they do offer a chicken and veggie.
