We had a terrible experience at Mullets this morning. We had a 45 min wait, which was expected on a Sunday morning. But after we were seated and placed our order, we waited over an hour and never received our food. We asked our waitress to check on the order, but she never came back. We flagged her down again and she said she would check... again she never came back. We finally decided to leave after waiting 1.25 hours and not receiving our food. I stopped to talk to the manager and she said we were told it would be an hour wait for food when we placed our order. I told her we were absolutely never told that! Do not eat there. It was one of the worse dining experiences. We had to wait 25 minutes to get a mimosa for the bar staff dropped all of the glasses. Then we waited over an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. I spoke to the manager. She was sorry but they were having trouble with the ticketing system. When it arrived the food was inedible. The pancakes looked like they were frozen made and not fresh. They were gummy. Then the scrambled eggs also looked like a greasy pancake. Didn't event touch them. No knifes were on the table. Had to wait another 15 minutes. I had to remind the waitress that we were still waiting for knives. $60 and two hours later left hungry and frustrated. read more

My wife and I went to the Mullets in Ames tonight. Although the food was really good the service was terrible. I had my heart set on fish and chips but once we got there, there was a limited menu that consisted of about 6 burgers and 4 breakfast items. Why would you have a limited menu on the weekends. We ordered an appetizer and ordered alcoholic beverages. Our server wasn't old enough to serve our drinks. That in itself self is okay but we got our appetizer first and we were done with it before our drinks came. Our appetizer had standing grease in the bottom of the basket. Our entree was good tho. I feel like they can do much better as to offer a better menu selection for people that don't want hamburgers. A full menu year round would be great. I expressed this to the manager but he didn't seem interested in my suggestions. PS Des Moines is way way better. Spend the extra gas and check them out as I will do moving forward. Have tried to go here 3 times. First time was told there was no wait but the kitchen was backed up and it was going to be at least an hour until we got our food. 2nd time was told there was an hour wait despite it not being busy and 3rd time was told it was an hour wait despite calling 10 minutes before and being told there was no wait. I had really high hopes based on the Des Moines location but I was incredibly disappointed. We went for dinner and even though Mullets specifically says they serve breakfast all day (it even says it on the back of the menu), the waitress told us that only a few selected items on the menu were available for dinner. She only told us this once we tried to order those unavailable items. There was zero information on the menu that told us over half of their breakfast items were not served for dinner so it was a very disappointing let down. Other issues include: the host wasn't available at the front when we came in and taking a while to get seated; the host looked very confused on where to take us as she was walking us to the table; not getting silverware at the table; we ordered the sweet tator tots as the savory style, and the waitress even repeated this back to us, but they came out as the sweet style; when the food was brought out, only a single fork was brought with the food and the employee asked if one of our party wanted a fork (she had pancakes so of course she'd needed a fork); we had to ask for more silverware (because others had meals that required utensils as well) and then that employee came back with a single fork (there were four of us at the table); the water cups are aluminum that sweat like crazy so the entire table was soaked, and the water did not taste very good drinking directly out of the cup so a straw was needed. The food quality was just okay. Nothing special at all and I would recommend Perkins over this place. read more

Atmosphere, cleanliness Extremely unimpressed by the atmosphere, the layout. Waiting area sees the doors to the kitchen. The doors were dirty. I was embarrassed for them. Then, as you watch the servers scramble to get the food to the table, you're on the edge of your seat hoping they don't trip over the very steep step that juts into the serving area. It's an accident waiting to happen. And watching them slop the last minute stuff onto the plates was disgusting. That is done in the viewing space where guests are waiting to be seated. Called and had a reservation for 10am for 10 people. showed up at 10am and was told they were backed up and couldn't seat us yet. Waited for 45 minutes and asked the server twice when we would be sat. Host couldn't give us an answer even when asking the manager who was also the only bartender. Watched them clear out the entire restaurant before seating any of the 20+ people waiting. Decided to leave and go some where else after being also ignored at the bar. The kitchen was staring to yell at each other about 30 minute ticket times so we knew if we would be sat with everyone else we wouldn't have food for 45+ minutes. Went to the Iowa Stater for their breakfast buffet and were sat immediately with excellent service and food. read more

Waiting until entire group was not pleasant. Using a walking assist, waiting area not reasonable. Over one hour wait for food, watching customers eat and pay, they entered after us. Food was average. No one in our group was served what they ordered. I'm certain establishment will gain favor with others. However, our treatment was unfortunately poor. Manager visited our table with apologies. We waited 45 minutes then had another 5 minutes where no one seated us. After sitting we waited another 30 minutes where we had to then flag down a different waiter to get drinks. Then got ignored for another 15 minutes until they finally came back and took our food order. Then we sat and waited for another 50 minutes with no service from our waiter to come back and even refill our drinks. We left and will not be coming back. Went to lunch and waited 20 minutes to see a waitress, then over an hour and a half for our food. Tables with larger parties who arrived significantly later were getting their food and leaving before we even got ours. We repeatedly asked for an estimate for our food and was told it would be out "shortly", which was not accurate. When the food arrived, we then had to wait several minutes for silverware and many things that were forgotten with the orders. We received no reimbursement or explanation for the inconvenience. Will not be returning due to the terrible service and wait time. read more

Been there several times, both breakfast & lunch. Wife & I have had a variety of dishes, each delicious. Love the nacho and catfish appetizers! Spicy Bloody Mary really hit the spot!!! Will be regulars in the future!!! Well worth checking out!!! read more

tried out the newly opened Ames Mullets. Bad experience from zero customer service to mediocre food at best. They were out of brisket, burnt ends, avocado, and all sliders, which limited our choices. My husband ordered Salmon hash which comes with eggs and they forgot the eggs. Once we found our waitress it took another 10 minutes before we got the eggs. I ordered nachos with pulled pork. chips were burnt and pulled pork was difficult to eat as so tough. not sure if they nuked it too long? wait time for food was 35 minutes despite having many empty tables. While they had enough staff they were not knowledgeable, friendly or proactive. it was dirty with napkins on the floor and bathroom was dirty. read more

In our first visit ever my order came out in a reasonable time but the order was cold and I had to send back my tiny tomatoe juice because of the lip stick on my glass. I was only able to eat part of my biscuits and gravy and part of my eggs Benedict since they both tasted like canned products. My wife never got her full order of eggs Benedict and we decided to let the manager we were going to leave because of the poor tasting food and terrible service.. This is third time we've tried Mullets in Ames and every experience has been poor. It's too bad, because the food and the vibes are good. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait, and it was exactly 20 minutes when we got seated. We ordered our food at the same time as when we ordered our drinks, at 12:30. We were NOT told that the kitchen was backed up or anything like that. It took about 25 minutes for us to get our drinks. It took a full hour and a half before we got our food. We asked how much longer the food would be twice, and both times they said it "wouldn't be much longer." When we asked if we could just cancel and leave, they told us we "are up next". However, it was still another 30 minutes before we got our food after that. We made it clear to the waitress that we didn't blame her when we asked about the food, and she started to cry, which makes it seem like she was clearly stressed and we weren't the only table having a bad experience. We had toddlers with us who were hungry and crying at this point. We asked if we could just get a side for our toddler before the rest of the food and they told us they wouldn't be able to accommodate that. When we did get our food, one of the orders was wrong and they forgot two of the sides. We also didn't get any silverware and it was almost ten full minutes after the food was delivered before they brought us any. We thought maybe our bill would be discounted based on poor service, but we weren't offered anything. The food itself was great, but it wasn't worth the inconvenience. Would not recommend read more
